I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
This is my back up laptop that I let my 13yro daughter use here @ home. It's never been taken out of the house, another words not thrown around @ airports, jostled in subways, train etc, another words taken very good care of.Â
Why my screen dims before I login. I got this new laptop and it loads up it's bright then it dims before I login. I tried updating the video drivers it came bright again. It ask me to reboot. The same problem before I login. It doesn't matter if it's plug in or on battery.
I am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally.  Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.
Dell has unwittingly revealed a major revision to its Inspiron notebooks courtesy of a company-hosted technology guide discovered late yesterday. The Inspiron 1545 will be one of Dell's first truly mainstream notebooks with a 16:9 aspect ratio display and should switch from today's 15.4-inch LCD to a more movie-friendly 15.6-inch, 1366x768 (WXGA) screen with the option of an LED backlight. It should also mark a jump to Centrino 2 that carries anything from a 2GHz Celeron to a 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo and will bring GMA 4500MHD integrated video as a result.
Little else is known from the leak, though the baseline RAM will be doubled to 1GB while the enclosure appears headed to a darker, glossy look versus the silver tones of the existing Inspiron 1525. Dell also makes clear plans to ship the system with an Ubuntu Linux option in addition to the expected Windows Vista choice.
When the 1545 or a smaller equivalent like the 1445 would appear hasn't been divulged with the leak, though the proximity to the holidays without a matching announcement may point to an early 2009 update. [via Engadget]
Recently I broke the screen on my laptop and I have purchased and received a replacement Dell Inspiron 15.6" Matte 1600x900 LED screen from an internet retailer.
The problem is that when I connected it to the laptop first time it did not work, I figured out there was a loose connection for my flex cable (my bad), then I made the connection firm and I got my new screen working perfectly! I got happy and screwed back the screen. Before assembling everything back, just tried it again and damn - the picture became very-very dark. I mean, no colorful details on the screen - I do see a picture but it is shades of dark grey - i can hardly see something there but again, the picture is there. I don't know much about LED screens but I would say it looks like there is no "backlight" or something like that.
Note, when I switch to the external monitor - everything is fine. First I thought the culprit is the flexible LED cable that goes from the motherboard to the LED screen. I just thought that maybe I broke the cable or its connection when I was disconnecting/connecting my LED screen. I figured out the cable part number (R267J) and ordered a new one from Dell. Once it arrived, I tried it - the same problem . So right now I definitely know the following:
1. The replacement LED screen must be good cause I saw it working and it is actually showing something, just there is a lack of brightness or "backlight"
2. The LED flex cable is good (I have the old and new one - they work the same)
3. The external LCD monitor connected via VGA works well - so it looks like the video controller is OK
So I was using my Inspiron 1545 and everything was going fine, then suddenly the screen just went nuts. It was green and pink, flickering, and had bars flashing everywhere. I turned it off manually, and after that it would turn on a few times (BIOS graphics were fine) but the desktop would be messed up. Then soon after that, I couldn't even get to BIOS. I press the power, the fan starts for like 2 seconds, then the laptop completely shuts down. I've tried removing the power supply and battery, holding the power button, then putting them back to no avail. I've also tried having it only connected to the power supply. I've even tried removing one of the two RAM.
My laptop keep looping to black screen saying "Windows Error Recovery"and provided with 2 options:
 1 Launch Startup Repair (Recommended)
2 Start Windows Normally
If I select option 1, Â
I am taken to a blank black screen in which the only way i am able to exit fromis if I push the power button.
If I select option 2,
The windows loading bar shows up but in the end takes me back to the Windows ErrorRecovery screen. I have tried both options over and over again but end up withthe same result.
I have press <F8> on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on thescreen.
I have select Repair Your Computer onthe Advanced BootOptions menu, and then press <Enter>.
Iwas taken to a black screen saying "Windows Error Recovery"
I am having dell inspiron 1545...was working fine until last week when problem with screen started.
Whenever I try to turn on my laptop, it shows me dell logo and then it goes black... booting process is still on..and if you see screen in bright light you can see the process..
Now initially i thought that i need to replace my screen but it is showing dell logo so i am pretty sure that screen works fine, now my laptop does have the problem of overheating. is that is a problem????
and my laptop screen attachment to main body is not perfect too.
What is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit.
I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)
I have nvidia gt555 with intel Optimus Intel 2670m 8GB of RAM Windows 7 professional
I tried to do a fresh install of windows 7 but the problem still persists and I cannot test it since I have deleted the recovery Drive. How do I test if the graphics card is working properlyÂ
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 and have had this laptop for 3 or  more years. Last night I shut off my laptop normally but today, upon booting, the screen just turns black and nothing else. When starting up, the Dell logo still loads and the screen still shows "safe mode or start up regularly."
Upon choosing either option, the screen loads for awhile then fades into black. Nothing else happens after.I would atleast like to know how to save my files within the laptop. [Atleast to start it up once more to save all the files to a USB and not lose them forever..]
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 that doesn't boot successfully. It gets to the screen indicating "Starting WIndows" and then just sits there. I tried safe booting but when it should be displaying windows files that are loading, the screen just stays blank. I tried selecting "Repair" boot but the system just blinks and returns to the window that asks me to select Repair or Normal Boot. (If I select Normal Boot, it gets to "Starting Windows" and that's it.
I checked out the hard drive externally and it appears the hardware is functioning normally. I successfully booted with Hiren's Boot CD. I would like to attempt a RECOVERY but can't get beyond the Repair screen.
Since Dell doesn't provide an OS disk with the computer that would allow me to reinstall Windows 7...
My son has a Dell Inspiron 1545 ... The problem with its is, that it receives power into the unit but nothing is displayed onto the screen and therefore, nothing shows or happens. I know that the unit is receiving power due to the fact that I can open the Disk Drive. I have attempted the flea start without any success.
I need a notebook for outside in the sun use. Between 14"-16" that has a very BRIGHT screen. I've tried the Envy 15 w/Matte and it's too dim. Would you recommend the new EliteBook 8540w or 8440w? Do these have really bright screens that are good for outside use? I need good battery life too.
Recently my Dell Inspiron 1545 screen is showing green patches. They are only increasing day by day and after rubbing the screen they disappear for some time before appearing again. I tried some software solutions like pixelhealer etc but no use.
Is there any other way to eliminate dead pixels? How much the hardware replacement will cost ?
I seem to have a problem as soon as i unplug my charging laptop. It seems to freeze and screen goes into a frenzy of lines and running bars. I have a dell 1545 and its vital .....
Yesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in. Â
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display... Â Pictures: [URL] .....
At the top of the screen, images look darker and crisper and at the bottom they look more bright and less detail.
Here's an example of an icon that should look the same, but it looks distinctly different (and it's not the camera exposure -- what you see is more or less how it is). Should I return the machine and get another? Do you think Apple will even consider it an issue if I wanted to get it replaced? Do you guys have the same thing? I only noticed when I had a lot of the same icon scattered on my desktop and the same icon looks noticeably different. Of course, I am always the person to notice anything about electronics whereas other people would never have so much as a clue. even though the video files are what got me seeing that things are different, you can kind of see it with the folder icons as well.
I have a new T540p with Windows 8.1 and fn+f5/f6 do nothing, while sound buttons work fine. Is there any way to change screen backlight brightness, coz it too birght for me by default.
I've included my build below, but I'd like to know what else I should do in order to get the most out of my purchase. Any help would be appreciated whether it be key drivers to download or cool widgets to get for my desktop!
Inspiron 1545, Intel Core 2 Duo P8600, 2.4GHz, 1066Mhz, 3ML2 Cache 3GB, DDR2, 800MHz 2 Dimm 256MB ATI Mobility Radeon HD4330 Microsoft Windows Vista SP1 Home Basic Edition, English 9-cell Primary Battery
I ordered two basic Inspiron 1545's on March 16th. $479 each on the one day special.
Dell says it will arive on April 6th. Does Dell usually take this long to deliver?
Both have Dual Core Pentiums. Can they be upgraded to Core 2 Duo later? Are the CPU's soldered on the main board?
Ram is limited to four gigabytes, even though the laptop uses a 64-bit CPU. Is this something that might be fixed in a future BIOS upgrade?
Is there any way to upgrade the onboard graphics? I found an ExpressCard chasis that has PCI express slots, but it costs over $700. I could build a PC for less than that. Do I have any other options?
I just looked at the pictures and specs of the new Inspiron 1525 replacement, 1545, and I couldn't believe what I have read. No HDMI port, no firewire port, only 3 USB ports, no modem, no eSATA. Also, it is 15.6" 16:9 screen, which is fine, if they offer higher than 1366x768. It is more like the 13" Inspiron than the old 1525 to me. I think Dell is going to re-align Inspiron as a cheap line like the HP Presario line. Dell Studio will compete with HP Pavilion.
My fan on the inspiron 1545 will not stop running. The laptop is quite hot. The battery from Dell died and replaced with a third party battery and adapter which have not been working well either. Battery will not charge so it is currently attached to power source at all times with the battery in the laptop.
