Why my screen dims before I login. I got this new laptop and it loads up it's bright then it dims before I login. I tried updating the video drivers it came bright again. It ask me to reboot. The same problem before I login. It doesn't matter if it's plug in or on battery.

Every time when the laptop goes to sleep mode by itself and I turn it on again, the touch screen will be partly unresponsive, to be more specific, it is the upper part of the screen. The problem is only at the screen, mouse and touchpad are working fine. Now I can solve the problem by pressing power button to let it sleep and press again to turn it on, but I don't want to do this everyday.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
There is a major issue here with Dell's Touchpad drivers, they simply do not work. Anytime I try to use the Touchpad the mouse goes flying all over the place and is completely useless. Whenever the screen is folded back into tablet mode--they keyboard will not lock.
Have been on phone with Dell for hours on this with no resolve. There are a lot of people complaining about the same thing, Dell doesn't see to understand this.
This is my back up laptop that I let my 13yro daughter use here @ home. It's never been taken out of the house, another words not thrown around @ airports, jostled in subways, train etc, another words taken very good care of.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally. Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.

Dell Diagnostic has found no problem,I've had trouble getting a hold of customer service. has been to uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft ACPI Complian Control Method Battery driver, which I have done.The only thing I haven't messed with is the battery itself, which doesn't seem to be accessible without damaging the back, which is screwed on and secured well.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought new Inspiron 11 3147 (2 in 1 model). When "SATA Operation" is set to AHCI laptop can't detect SSD (Intel 530) in Windows 8.1 setup.
When I change "SATA Operation" to ATA Windows 8.1 can detect SSD in setup without any problem.
I think this is BIOS error. There will be any update? I can't use my SSD now.
How do i have my screen stay bright after i have taken out my charger.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have recently bought a new Dell Inspiron 11 3147. Everything was fine for about an hour (created my MS Windows account, installed some apps, laptop was perfectly quiet), until I decided to play some music from YouTube. The sound was really cracking and from that point the laptop constantly makes quiet buzzing/cracking noise (it does not come from speakers!), just like HDD is reading data very fast or the fan was damaged. Sometimes music is played fine, and sometimes (i dont know what it depends on) sound is crackling even more.
Plus when the computer starts, the fan noise is quite buzzing too.
I don't know what could be the problem since it all started when I played music, I dont know what makes music crackle too! I tried to reinstall sound drivers but I guess it's not the driver, since the buzz is there even when Windows is not loaded.
After having my XPS 13 for a couple of months I have noticed a bright blemish appearing on the screen.
It remains in the same place regardless of screen aspect so it seems to be the screen itself rather than a software/driver issue.
Rather than being one bright pixel it appears as an indistinct and irregular bright patch roughly in the middle of the screen.
What is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit.
I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)

I got an inspiron 11 on Friday. I started noticing that sometimes the touchscreen wouldn't work correctly. Sometimes It takes a few taps to register a touch, other times it just quits working for a few seconds. This makes it hard to do anything, and makes it completely impossible to play any touchscreen games.
After a couple days, I finally figured out that It was on battery power that I had the problems. When plugged in the touchscreen works perfectly.
I have downloaded all the dell upgrades, and windows upgrades. I've also tried to turn off all the battery saving options I could find. Under power options advanced screen I changed every option to the same for plugged in and on battery. I turned off the option for dells power saving features. In device manager I took away windows ability to put usb hub asleep. There Is probably more I'm forgetting. Basically everywhere I seen a difference between battery and plugged in, i changed.
It passes all the hardware checks, both through dell software, and on the bootup hardware check.
I use this in tablet mode 90% of the time. And returning it to laptop mode to use touchpad/keyboard just isn't acceptable
I need a notebook for outside in the sun use. Between 14"-16" that has a very BRIGHT screen. I've tried the Envy 15 w/Matte and it's too dim. Would you recommend the new EliteBook 8540w or 8440w? Do these have really bright screens that are good for outside use? I need good battery life too.
View 10 Replies View RelatedYesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in.
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display...

At the top of the screen, images look darker and crisper and at the bottom they look more bright and less detail.
Here's an example of an icon that should look the same, but it looks distinctly different (and it's not the camera exposure -- what you see is more or less how it is). Should I return the machine and get another? Do you think Apple will even consider it an issue if I wanted to get it replaced? Do you guys have the same thing? I only noticed when I had a lot of the same icon scattered on my desktop and the same icon looks noticeably different. Of course, I am always the person to notice anything about electronics whereas other people would never have so much as a clue. even though the video files are what got me seeing that things are different, you can kind of see it with the folder icons as well.
I have a new T540p with Windows 8.1 and fn+f5/f6 do nothing, while sound buttons work fine. Is there any way to change screen backlight brightness, coz it too birght for me by default.

View 5 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I fired up my dv6 Pavilion 3240us and it did something weird. The colors are sort of out of whack. Bright white area show as Cyan and dark areas (black) are a sort of Burgundy or deep red. I can adjust the contrast down a little and the brightness down to -13 and the cyan mostly goes away, but the dark areas are even more more red.
I update the Catalyst app and drivers and did a complete update of Windows 7 (which took around 24 hours and it still wants more time) to no avail.
How did it happen? One day it was working perfectly and it shut down normally. The next day it was screwed up. Nothing happened to the machine between those times. I would show you pictures but I've found that screenshots of it look normal on other machines, eg: my desktop.
At one point yesterday when I tried playing a game on it the problen suddenly cleared up. That lasted for a few minutes before reverting the the screwed up state.
I am writing this on it; it does work. But trying to look at videos or most pictures or games it looks really wild, many times too strange to see what's going on.
Just bought the 3521 Inspiron touch screen. Two questions:Does the touch screen require a screen protector? Many different answers. Would like your opinion!The outside cover shows fingerprints (even with clean hands). Can the outside cover be replaced to a different color or type (that doesn't show fingerprints)?

My 1420 is suffering from a bad screen problem. There is a horizontal split in my screen so it is showing double.

can't see a thing on the screen. He left the laptop on hibernate for around 3 hours and when he came back, the screen was very dark.
He says he's restarted several times since then and the only thing which seemed to "light up" the screen was taking the power out; allowing the laptop to run on battery. However, just 5 minutes ago, even though the laptop was on battery, the screen has gone dark. He can barely make out MSN conversations by shining his lamp onto the screen but he can't see the mouse cursor.
The laptop is around 1 and a half years old.
All of a sudden, after some time, when I turned the laptop the screen has become very dim and I can't get it back to normal. I tried Fn+Up but it doesn't work.
My laptop is Dell Inspiron 6400.
