Im coming from a dual lamp 17" hp wsxga and would like to pick up a 1555 with a wsxga led screen.
Im not sure what the brightness rating on my old dv8300 laptop. Are these screens comparable?
I'm trying to build my own vaio(VGN-FW-35X) on the uk sonystyle page, but it's not clear if the 1920x1020 is using a double lamp technology or not.
Tried sony customer services but that had no clue they will call me back some time this week.
All it says on the page is:
16.4" LCD, 1920x1080 + webcam [+ £ 60.0] [New Price: + £ 0.0 , you save £ 60.0 ]
is it double lamp or not?
I have an XPS M1330 purchased about 2 years ago.
The screen went extremely dim permanently one day when the battery reached its near absolute low. For some reason the screen came back to a brightly lit life after a system restore. The same problem occurred again and sadly after sitting on it a few weeks I did not have a restore point old enough to troubleshoot with the same solution.
Now I'm not sure if system restore really had anything to do with the monitor crapping out because I've never heard of such a scenario, but I'm just going to throw it out there on the off chance that it does .....
Is it possible to have a different background/wall paper when running in Dual view monitor mode?

it says 16.4" H1080 WXGA++ (1920 x 1080) Widescreen X-black LCD screen with built-in "Motion Eye" Digital Camera, but is it a 1920x1080 dual lamp, multiple lamp(how many?) orr single lamp? make sure its the fw35v not the fw35x. the fw35v is the one that costs £60 to upgrade the screen. the fw35x says HD1080 (1920x1080) X-black LCD with multiple lamp, which im guessing is a dual lamp LCD right? also is the Dual lamp worth it for £60?
what does it do? give brighter?, sharper?, more deep and rich colours? or something else?

I got my Dell Studio 15 today. Everything seems fine except for the fact that the screen hurts my eyes ....
I tried lowering the brightness levels but it really is the contrast. My older laptop (inspiron) was fine. What can I do?
I was going to buy a XPS, but I really have to have a back lit keyboard so I am most likely going to buy a Studio 15.
How bright is the keyboard back lighting? Is it as bright as the Macbook Pros?

I have recently purchased a W540 and connected to my Dell u3011 30" monitor. I used the Dual Link DVI-D cable that came with the monitor and plugged it into my Ultra Dock. The maximum resolution i can get is 1920x1080? When i change over to a Display port cable i can achieve the full 2560 x 1600 resolution? Is there something i need to do in addition to achieve the full 2560x1600 resolution with the DVI-D dual link cable? I want to be able to connect 2 laptops to the one monitor and only have 1 display port input so i need to be able to use the DVI cable on the 2nd machine while still achieving 2560x1600 resolution.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?
How do i have my screen stay bright after i have taken out my charger.

It ask me to reboot. The same problem before I login. It doesn't matter if it's plug in or on battery.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter having my XPS 13 for a couple of months I have noticed a bright blemish appearing on the screen.
It remains in the same place regardless of screen aspect so it seems to be the screen itself rather than a software/driver issue.
Rather than being one bright pixel it appears as an indistinct and irregular bright patch roughly in the middle of the screen.
What is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit.
I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)

This is my back up laptop that I let my 13yro daughter use here @ home. It's never been taken out of the house, another words not thrown around @ airports, jostled in subways, train etc, another words taken very good care of.Â

View 10 Replies View RelatedI am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally.  Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.
View 1 Replies View RelatedYesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in. Â
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display...

At the top of the screen, images look darker and crisper and at the bottom they look more bright and less detail.
Here's an example of an icon that should look the same, but it looks distinctly different (and it's not the camera exposure -- what you see is more or less how it is). Should I return the machine and get another? Do you think Apple will even consider it an issue if I wanted to get it replaced? Do you guys have the same thing? I only noticed when I had a lot of the same icon scattered on my desktop and the same icon looks noticeably different. Of course, I am always the person to notice anything about electronics whereas other people would never have so much as a clue. even though the video files are what got me seeing that things are different, you can kind of see it with the folder icons as well.
I have a new T540p with Windows 8.1 and fn+f5/f6 do nothing, while sound buttons work fine. Is there any way to change screen backlight brightness, coz it too birght for me by default.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA few days ago I fired up my dv6 Pavilion 3240us and it did something weird. The colors are sort of out of whack. Bright white area show as Cyan and dark areas (black) are a sort of Burgundy or deep red. I can adjust the contrast down a little and the brightness down to -13 and the cyan mostly goes away, but the dark areas are even more more red.

I update the Catalyst app and drivers and did a complete update of Windows 7 (which took around 24 hours and it still wants more time) to no avail.

How did it happen? One day it was working perfectly and it shut down normally. The next day it was screwed up. Nothing happened to the machine between those times. I would show you pictures but I've found that screenshots of it look normal on other machines, eg: my desktop.

At one point yesterday when I tried playing a game on it the problen suddenly cleared up. That lasted for a few minutes before reverting the the screwed up state.

I am writing this on it; it does work. But trying to look at videos or most pictures or games it looks really wild, many times too strange to see what's going on.

1) The DVD on XPS 16 should be a 12.7mm SATA and I was wondering what specific HDD caddy was used? From the thread above, this might work .....

The XPS 1645 offers choices of 4, 6, and 8GB of ram. Just out of curiosity, how can 6GB of ram be dual channel? I was under the impression that dual channel requires matching pairs, and that 6GB of ram would be one 4GB stick and one 2GB stick. However, the Alienware laptop seems to have listed what I would expect (3 and 6GB configurations not listed as dual channel).

I have seen several sigs with people that have an e1705 with dual HDD's...But I can't seem to find any info on it. I need more HDD space, but I do not want to have to re-install everything on a new one. It would save a lot of hassle.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI formatted my XPS M1530 using this guide (How to: Step-by-step guide for installing Windows XP on XPS M1530) and everything worked perfect.
But when I rebooted, I realised that the computer booted directly to XP and didn't let me choose between XP and 7. Normal, I thought, so I stuck in the W7 CD and selected the "repair" option. This did the trick very neatly, repairing the W7 install. The only problem was that now it will boot ONLY to W7 and I still have no selection screen for the OS.
Looking into getting a Dell XPS series, but can't find any info on having dual HDD bay's.
I really like this feature on my HP, but dollar for dollar Dell has much better hardware out of the box. Some one let me know if any Dell's have this. Probably going to wait till Windows 7 comes out.
I am trying to run dual monitors on a d630 with Intel 965 video and the laptop, after reboot, will not hold its settings.
It always wants to revert back the VGA screen as primary and ignores the second DVI monitor.
I have tried undocking and removing the dock profile so it can re-establish it but no success.
