Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: X220 IPS Display - Bright Spot On The Screen
Sep 25, 2011Yesterday I have noticed a problem with the display in my X220 (type 4290-W1B). There is a small, white spot (about 1 mm diameter), clearly visible on the screen. It doesn't look like a normal bad pixel, but like a problem with the background light, or something. It is not visible when black color is displayed. The laptop was bought about 3 months ago and everything was OK until yesterday.
I have attached some pictures of this dot, but it is difficult to capture it with the camera (it is much more visible in real). I have marked the spot (it is in the middle of the circle). The pics are in high resolution so you can zoom in.
What should I do now? I have heard , that the Lenovo bad pixel policy is 3 bad pixel per display...

Mar 10, 2013I am having an issue with the screen of my laptop. had bought the laptop jus 3 days back.. :( the problem I am facing is that... once I close my lid and open in in a few seconds, it still gives me a blck scree which does not respond. however If the let the lid be closed for a longer period life 10 sec it works normally. Previously today I experienced an other issue, that was, once I closed the lid and opened it back, it gave me a black screen with one bright spot. bt this was gone after pressing the power button a few times.

Mar 12, 2013After having my XPS 13 for a couple of months I have noticed a bright blemish appearing on the screen.
It remains in the same place regardless of screen aspect so it seems to be the screen itself rather than a software/driver issue.
Rather than being one bright pixel it appears as an indistinct and irregular bright patch roughly in the middle of the screen.

Dec 14, 2011A few days ago I fired up my dv6 Pavilion 3240us and it did something weird. The colors are sort of out of whack. Bright white area show as Cyan and dark areas (black) are a sort of Burgundy or deep red. I can adjust the contrast down a little and the brightness down to -13 and the cyan mostly goes away, but the dark areas are even more more red.
I update the Catalyst app and drivers and did a complete update of Windows 7 (which took around 24 hours and it still wants more time) to no avail.
How did it happen? One day it was working perfectly and it shut down normally. The next day it was screwed up. Nothing happened to the machine between those times. I would show you pictures but I've found that screenshots of it look normal on other machines, eg: my desktop.
At one point yesterday when I tried playing a game on it the problen suddenly cleared up. That lasted for a few minutes before reverting the the screwed up state.
I am writing this on it; it does work. But trying to look at videos or most pictures or games it looks really wild, many times too strange to see what's going on.

Feb 16, 2010I need a notebook for outside in the sun use. Between 14"-16" that has a very BRIGHT screen. I've tried the Envy 15 w/Matte and it's too dim. Would you recommend the new EliteBook 8540w or 8440w? Do these have really bright screens that are good for outside use? I need good battery life too.

I tried to use the last known good configuration and it started out fine but I got the black screen again. I can't go into the safe mode, it only goes as far as loading the files. I tried booting from the cd to do a repair but that options says there are no problems. I attached an external monitor and I get the same black screen with the white cursor. I am running Vista Home as my operating system.

Nov 8, 2012I have a screen problem on my Laptop, on start-up it shows a white screen with black lines (Picture below) only happens once every 5-10 start-ups. Only happens for 5-10 Secs & sorts itself out before it boots up.

Dell XPS L702X :: Flickering White Then Screen Turns White?
Mar 19, 2013I have a XPS L702X, purchased it last year at the beginning of the summer. After a couple of weeks of use, the colors would change on the screen and the screen would start flickering. The dell people did a remote assistance and updated the bios and graphics software. It stopped for a little while. Then the colors would just change but not flickering yet. Then it started all over again, but now it would flash and lock up my keyboard, but I could still control the mouse with an external one. So I got a live CD to see if that works and it runs, but the screen still flashes white and gets static. I can see the desktop and move the mouse but it eventually turns all white and static comes through the speakers. Now the computer will not even turn on at times, it sounds like it is booting up, but then just shuts off.
I have also tried doing a system restore but it will not stay on long enough to go through the process, this last time it shut down completely before even finishing.
I have also tried using an external monitor and it will go through until the screen starts flickering.

I have an year plus HP pavillion dv6000 series.
Maybe I didn't notice before or they appeared recently, but there is whiteness on the upper left and right corners of the screen. It isn't on the outside as it only shows up when the laptop is on.
Also, if i have a darker background like on movies that are on widescreen format [black bars above and below the movie], the whites becomes smaller like a small line on the corners.
Is it something to do with the screen losing its life or is it because of some internal dust? I have used windex to clean it but I wonder how can dust get to the back of the screen? It is primarily used a home desktop.

Apr 3, 2009I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to be evenly lit. For example when I set the desktop background to black, it looks pretty black at the top of the screen, but as I look further down towards the bottom it turns almost medium gray/blue-ish.
I've tried all brightness, contrast and gamma settings with no luck.
Has anyone else seen this problem, and is it a reason for sending back the laptop? Or is this something "you get" for buying a lower-end laptop like the 1545?

May 1, 2013What is happening with the laptop, sometimes I noticed my laptop screen will flicker(or a bright flash as if someone was taking a picture). When I go to the event viewer it tells me Desktop windows service manager has been disabled by the windows system assessment tool. I'I have the nvidia graphics card + Intel(using optimus technology),running windows 7 professional 64 bit.
I forgot to mention when playing videos I think the graphic card makes a strange noise like there isn't enough power or something (Not 100% sure)

Jan 12, 2009I have a Compaq 3000 Laptop, it's almost 2.4 Years old now, over the period of time I dint faced any issues with my Machine.it all started yesterday.
I was watching a movie on my Laptop yesterday, after sometime the screen froze up but the movie was playing as I was able to hear whats going in the movie.
Later I tried restarting the machine, what i get is the machine boots up properly, but the screen doesnt display anything thing, it shows up a blank white screen, sometime when the windows XP loading picture comes up the screen shows light distorted colors but again goes white blank.
I did approached a local vendor for that but he says that we need to replace on the motherboard, I was not much convinced over his explanation over the issue.
I would like to know your views on what might be the problem with my Machine.
I am going to try over connecting an external monitor and see if LCD is the problem, but I would like to know more what all possible options are there which might be affecting my machine and how much would it cost me in the worst possible case.

Here's an example of an icon that should look the same, but it looks distinctly different (and it's not the camera exposure -- what you see is more or less how it is). Should I return the machine and get another? Do you think Apple will even consider it an issue if I wanted to get it replaced? Do you guys have the same thing? I only noticed when I had a lot of the same icon scattered on my desktop and the same icon looks noticeably different. Of course, I am always the person to notice anything about electronics whereas other people would never have so much as a clue. even though the video files are what got me seeing that things are different, you can kind of see it with the folder icons as well.

Sep 9, 2009I received my alpine white XPS today in the mail. The packaging was very nice, however when I pulled the laptop out of the "black bag" that it came packaged in, the laptop was stained on both the gloss top and on the leather. I called and explained the situation and they said they are sending a replacement. I am hoping that it'll have some protective covering on the laptop inside the black bag or else I imagine this will happen again.
