after installing win 7 in my dell a lost bios setup.I press F2 key at splash screen Dell but nothing happens. I update the fitmware of my bios with the last version but nothing again.
View 8 RepliesA couple hours ago I updated my BIOS from A13 to A14. The firmware update took successfully and everything was fine, I THOUGHT.
Now, every single time (not exaggerating) that I restart my computer the Dell Circular logo pops up for maybe half a sec, and screen goes blank. Lights on laptop do it's thing, I hear the dvd-rom set itself like usual but like I said, no loading ring under the Dell logo appears, the screen just goes blank. All I have to do each time is simply push the power button till computer turns off, and turn it on again. The second time around it works completely normal and loads into Windows.
This happens every time I do a restart from windows, a restart from BIOS settings, or if I turn the computer on after it's been off for a couple minutes. The Dell circular logo appears for maybe half a sec, than screen goes blank, I wait forever and it does nothing but all I have to do each time is push the power button, let pc turn off, and push power button again and it works until the next system restart and it does it all over again.
Won't be too much of a problem but it's aggravating that every time I restart the computer I just know i'm going to have to wait for the blank screen and push the power button to turn it off and back on.
All drivers were fully updated before I performed the BIOS firmware update from A13 to A14. Update took successfully.
I unplugged laptop, and took out battery for a little while to clear my RAM, but that did not fix the problem.
I always loaded BIOS setting defaults, still have the problem.
I have no CD/DVD in the ROM, nor do I have any USB devices, memory cards, or blue tooth device hooked to the computer.

CPU is i5 3210m
I have two Inspiron 17R 5720, identical?, except bios in one only shows Sata options ATA and AHCI. The other show all Sata options ATA, AHCI, and Intel Rapid Start. Both are running Bios A14.
What can be changed to make both display all three Sata options?

Today when I wanted to access my BIOS settings, I found out that I had already set one. It has been more than a year since I last accessed my BIOS. Now what the pass-code is. I looked up Google on how to recover the pass-code and none of it worked. A post I read on Microsoft said to ask the computer manufacturer if there is a "universal pass-code" ( something like that ) so that I can use it to access the BIOS and then reset the pass-code.
If you cannot seem to get a universal pass-code, I'm open to other methods on how to reset the BIOS pass-code.
I have recently been completely unable to access the set-up area of my bios on my Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop. On booting, i keep pressing the F2 key which seems to be registered by the BIOS as the text that says 'Set-Up' lights up. However, instead of entering the setup, the BIOS simply continues booting my operating system. Even if I remove all of the hard drive's, I cannot enter the set up and the BIOS boots to the PXE Setup.
I have tried reflashing the BIOS but nothing changes, the set-up is still inaccessible. I can't even change the boot order using the F12 key.
I really need access to my BIOS and I am all out of options.

My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually,I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem.
I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)
I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.

I have a Dell 5720 and in the summer, its motherboard and keyboard got replaced due to short circuit problems. Since then, every time I press the Power button, the laptop starts to load correctly but suddenly turns off during the boot process. If I press the Power button on a second time, the laptop loads perfectly.
I have Windows 7 and Ubuntu installed and the booting process reaches the grub where I can select in which one I want to boot. I can even select something from the list, but then the laptop turns off (not because I select something, but I think because I have a few seconds before it shuts down). If I turn it on again, everything is fine. I can select anything from the grub's boot list and it won't turn off. It boots into any desired OS and works like there's no problem
I've just run hardware diagnostics and all tests passed.One of my friend said that it has a driver problem because the motherboard got replaced and this is why it's shuts down the first boot.
Another observation: if I do this 'twice turn-on' boot and use my laptop for a while and I turn it off and I turn it on again in a short time after the turn off, it boot correctly.

View 15 Replies View RelatedI let a family member borrow my laptop and it came back with cryptowall2.0 and another one (cant remember which one it was) because they had somehow disabled my antivirus (panda pro) and my anti-malware (malwarebytes). But i got the infections themselves removed and cleaned but my files are still all encrypted. No big deal, MOST of the important stuff was backed up online and on flash drives. Tried restoring to a previous point but didn't work. So now i can't access my admin account AT ALL. I can log into it but the screen stays black with just the pointer. I can log into the guest account.
But i can't do ANYTHING from there and put it that way on purpose. How do i fix this??? Will a factory restore fix the damage from the ransomware infections??? Is there ANY way to save my files? Well, i guess none of that matters if i can't get into the admin account first... This is the ONLY computer i have access to, i can use my smartphone for accessing information and whatnot but connecting drive to an external drive on a secondary computer is out of the question....

They`ve sent me bin file to put on USB or HP_TOOLS partition and power up system with "Windows+ ArrowUP+ArrowDown" buttons.Howerver, when i power up system like this, nothing changes in startup at all.Do those buttons really mean something?I see from Internet that autoflash BIOS combo is Windows+B and Power.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just got an acer aspire timeline 5810tz, which came with vista, so i was in the process of reformatting it to have XP, which i've done several times on my previous laptops. When i changed the bios to IDE, which is what i read was the correct setting (perhaps this is where my problem is?), i found that i could no longer boot the computer or access setup, bios or the boot menu. When i attempt to do any of these things, the computer just sits on the logo screen.
i'm getting fairly desperate at this point, having tried a large variety of solutions, key combos, removing the battery, etc.
I am trying to enter bios and have tried the following and failed.
1) Through Advance Setup in Windows UEFI Firmware
2) FN F2 / F2
3) NOVO Key
The NOVO gives me an option to Bios Setup but it just boot me back to Windows 8.1.
The Nvidia driver for my Inspiron 5720 does not recognize my card and won't install. It is the 630M.I did a clean format and set BIOS values to default. The latest BIOS is installed.The drive is from Dell's website.
