View 3 Replies View RelatedI want to look at the boot option settings on my HP 15 Notebook PC. When I boot, I hit the F1 key and basic information about my PC pops up, but I cannot get into the BIOS setup.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently been completely unable to access the set-up area of my bios on my Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop. On booting, i keep pressing the F2 key which seems to be registered by the BIOS as the text that says 'Set-Up' lights up. However, instead of entering the setup, the BIOS simply continues booting my operating system. Even if I remove all of the hard drive's, I cannot enter the set up and the BIOS boots to the PXE Setup.
I have tried reflashing the BIOS but nothing changes, the set-up is still inaccessible. I can't even change the boot order using the F12 key.
I really need access to my BIOS and I am all out of options.
after installing win 7 in my dell a lost bios setup.I press F2 key at splash screen Dell but nothing happens. I update the fitmware of my bios with the last version but nothing again.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI've a Lenovo G580 Laptop (2nd Gen PDC B960, 2 GB, 500 GB, DOS) When I bought it came pre-installed DOS, and then I install Windows 7 ultimate (32-bit, i didn't know at that time, 2nd gen PDC are 64-bit). My friend recommend me to disable UEFI from boot setup before installing any non-genuine OS, so I did disable that. My laptop is working fine, but all of a sudden it started to do random mouse freezes, surprisingly pressing ALT+F4 works like a charm to make mouse work again (by mouse I mean pointer actually,I think may be it's because any virus/malware or whatever that was, and also I was planning to change my OS to Windows 8 (it's after 10-11 month of purchase date), so I decided to format anyway, instead messing up with mouse freeze problem.
I'm not able to start my BIOS setup, nor able to use quick boot option (to select various bootable device option from list)
I try to press recovery key (small button near power button), that open recovery module properly (no glitch/error).but unfortunately I don't have any backup made previously so no use of recovery module.
and then I restart my laptop, then I press F2, it shows the first screen of BIOS menu, but my system stuck there (unresponsive state), i've no option else directly turning it off by holding power key for few seconds,..
and then no boot menu F2, F12 still unresponsive.
means whenever i open recovery module it able to open F2 menu (not F12) but that stuck too.else it just completely ignore F2, F12 I'm not a computer noob (not flaunting), but I spend last 4-5 hours looking for a solution for it, but couldn't find any solution by myself.
although my laptop is not in not working state. somehow I manage to install windows 8, but it's really weird that I can not access BIOS menu, my laptop is no longer in warranty period so I can experiment with it any way I want.
I formatted my laptop and installed windows 7, and I want to reformat but can not access the BIOS SETUP, already tried different keys without success?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got an acer aspire timeline 5810tz, which came with vista, so i was in the process of reformatting it to have XP, which i've done several times on my previous laptops. When i changed the bios to IDE, which is what i read was the correct setting (perhaps this is where my problem is?), i found that i could no longer boot the computer or access setup, bios or the boot menu. When i attempt to do any of these things, the computer just sits on the logo screen.
i'm getting fairly desperate at this point, having tried a large variety of solutions, key combos, removing the battery, etc.
I am trying to enter bios and have tried the following and failed.
1) Through Advance Setup in Windows UEFI Firmware
2) FN F2 / F2
3) NOVO Key
The NOVO gives me an option to Bios Setup but it just boot me back to Windows 8.1.
I purchased a Latitude D505 from a police auction and the BIOS setup is locked by password. It will not allow me change setups, such as system time.
Under system security it shows Primary Password unabled, Admin Password Enabled, Configure Setup Disabled and Configure Password enabled.
I need to clear these in order to setup new HDD and operating system.
If needed the present sys number is #6M81L51-595B
Acer Aspire V3-772G - BIOS setup utility menu items have disappeared
I have setup this brand new laptop, pre-installed with Windows 8.1, for my sister-in-law who bought it. The installation went well BUT the 16GB USB device which I purchased as advised by the Acer literature to store the recovery partition was not big enough, the physical capacity being 14.4GB. The Acer book says use a 16GB device or larger so I did. I naively thought that a USB drive which was labelled 16GB would be appropriate. Not so. I have had to buy a larger one but am still awaiting delivery.
I therefore decided to image the whole HDD to save the work I had done but found that the Acronis Backup and Recovery DVD would not boot. I went into the setup utility and adjusted the Boot settings to legacy and changed device priority. Acronis would not run so I did not continue. I went back into the setup utility, used F9 to restore the default and found to my astonishment that the DUAL boot option had now disappeared and the Windows Boot option had also vanished.
This means that this £800 laptop is now unusable. The setup utility self-reconfigured without warning. Nowhere is there any advice or warning not to use the setup utility in case it erases features which cannot be recovered by using F9 to recover the default configuration. If this is not a serious design fault, I don't know what is.
I am deeply worried because the idea of a BIOS setup utility behaving this way seems so improbable. How is it that the setup utility has been designed to self-harm like this?

We have some (old) Latitude D510 laptops that are used by students and apparently a couple of them did not have the bios locked out and these kids have discovered this.
We have two machines that are locked out and Dell is not being very helpful in the reset. Of course these machines are way out of warranty and not worth purchasing a new system board which is what Dell is now saying .....

View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a 2450 and the keyboard, touchpad and usb ports are all not working. I did some reading and someone had said that a reset could fix this problem, he said it was a problem with Acers bios. I'm trying to find where to jumper it, i read that you jumper J3 that is around the memory. I did that and don't think it reset, i figured the bios would give me a time warning or some sort of setting's warning. I thought i should see if anyone knows the procedure. Otherwise im thinking about cutting the lead to the top terminal and soldering in a jumper (which i don't want to do).
