HP ProBook 6555b Recovery :: How To Restore System To Earlier Date
Nov 9, 2014
I think I downloaded malware with a fake Java update I accidentally downloaded. I believe if I revert to an earlier date, I may solve my problem. I have an hp Probook 6555b using Windows 7.

I'm trying to download the latest drivers for my laptop from this page: [URL] But when I reach the point to choose the operating system, the drop down menu to choose from is empty. It has only one line: "Select...". Tried to open it with both firefox and the latest Internet explorer without any luck.

I had apre-installed windows7 on my HP ProBook 6555b. Today I upgraded to windows 8 but now I can't be bale to shut it down. I press the power button (or else I click on "shut-down" from the settings of the charm bar) but it goes in stand by not sht down. I checked the save battery settings and everything is ok. I contacted microsoft, they said me that it is a problem of compatibility with Hp, because windows 8 has a native antivirus and firewall, so it is a conflict between this windows 8 antivirus/firewall with a pre-installed saving energy software of HP.

I want to install a new ssd-drive, which is empty. I did create a DVD under rescue & recovery. But on startup with the new hdd, it only offers me a restore option, not a NEW system. R&R also only created ONE disc, imho thats not enough, dont I need some more for the whole system?
And I cant backup the whole windows system, because even though its fresh its 80 gig (some data was taken along, dunno which)...
And thats my problem in a nutshell: I cant create discs with ONLY the windows install-system, or rather I dont know how
I now tried 3 times, and R&R burns only ONE disc, and booting from that, it asks for a recovery. I want a new fresh virgin system...
I tried a couple of times, did not work. Had to swap back the old drive to work again.
System: Windows 7 professional

I just purchased a new Pavilion m7-1015dx Laptop and need to make the System Recovery Discs ... (which I realize restores the Laptop to factory default).. btw, I've already created the System Repair Disc.
However, I read an article about creating a System Backup Image that allows you to Recovery EVERYTHING if lost, all your installed programs, etc.
First Question ::: if I do the System Backup IMAGE ... Do I still need to create the System Recovery disc's (mfg's default) also??
The Second Question ::: If I create the System Recovery discs do I still need that Recovery Partition ??
I am really really wanting to partition my C: drive ... it's huge plus I hate seeing storage folders intermingled with system folders .. Currently using a Symbol/Character to separate them.
As of now, I can't partition the C:drive as all partitions are used.. max is 4 and I've got 4 .... C:drive, System Partition, HPTools Partition, and Recovery Partition.

This is a brand new T440s, i7, W7 Pro that I have had for 3 days. On the first power-up, the system date was set on "tomorrow," in other words, one day ahead. I reset the date, time, country and time zone. It is set to sync with the internet. Each morning now when I power it up, the system date is "yesterday," one day behind. I have to manually change the date each morning. How can I fix this permanently. Other than this date glitch, it's a beautiful machine.

I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.
3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA)
(These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives)
The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.
So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)
[URL] Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to
(in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.
I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…
Link to a screenshot: (you need to copy paste it into your browser apparently)
[URL]
This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.

When trying to restore the factory image (F11 during boot), the laptop seems like it is trying to boot the missing Windows installation (Windows boot manager error page). The partitions "SYSTEM", "HP_RECOVERY" and "HP_TOOLS" have not been touched. The ~15 GB recovery files are still there! The Windows partition (2nd primary) has been deleted and recreated as an NTFS partition. Since then the recovery process will not start.
How can I restore the system from my intact HP_RECOVERY partition without using recovery DVDs? (I can't access them right now.)Does the Windows partition need some specific disk label? What is the magic that breaks the recovery when a NTFS partition is simply deleted and recreated?Peter

Came to a point when I should completely restore the OS on my Acer Aspire 4752. Neither through Alt+F10 nor through eRecovery am I able to get around a Notice with the following "please complete operating system setup process before doing system recovery". There is only one option of this notice, that is to ok it and then the current Windows 7 Home Premium OS starts and I am not able to get out of this viscous circle. The OS works and is completely set up, so I do not understand what am I prompted to do. I see a number of postings out there, but no solution. Local Acer does not seem to know anything about the problem nor it's existence.

I have an HP G-60 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium that I tried to use the System Restore utility on several times. It would go through the entire process, restart perfectly, then I would get the following error message: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer system files and settings are not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore." Obviously, a system restore utility that doesn't isn't much use.

I have the following 3 drives on my Dell XPS 1530 notebook as it came from Dell :
1)Drive C :Which has all the Windows files
2)Drive D: Which has other files
3)Drive E :Which has the Recovery files
So far I have enabled System Restore only for Drive C.
Is it advisable to enable System restore for Drives D and E also ?
Im particularly asking for Drive D as system restore eats lots of space if it is enabled in Drive D.
Are there any risks if system restore is not enabled for Drive D and E

I have a Aug 2006, Dell E1505, 1.83 ghz, 1 gb ram, ati 256 1400 etc etc + 80gb HDD (note) win XP & media center
for last three year never formatted my system, it was going good... recently some virus attack happend and it made my notebook verrrrrry slow, so i did the famous Ctrl + F11 !!
follow mark mck's bloatware removal, did a hdd defrag for non-c drive.
But my question is, even after everything the system is not running as fast it did in 2006
boot time is ~1min, shut down is 35 odd seconds...
So, my 2 cents say that after long usage, even if you do a factory restore DO NOT EXPECT a out of the factory hardware/speed, all u get is out of factory windows settings and bloatware ((

I tried finding solutions in the net but it doesn't solve the problem so maybe system restore may do it but inst going to remove all the programs, like MS Office? Are the files saved in drive D also be removed? My laptop has MS Office already when my mother bought it. I have Acer Aspire 5730z.

I actually want to wipe my HDD because I get an error in partition table and I can't use Partition Magic and other tools..
I have created an Acronis Image for my PQService of about 8,5 GB and one for the other Hidden partition 3,5 GB - is this a CompaqSetup Diagnostic partition with ROM BIOS ? or is Acer Arcade-InstantOn ? cause I've seen it's name like CompaqSetup and in some utility program it's says about something with diagnostic.. I'm confused about this... and btw I have already created my Recovery DVD's.
So if I wipe my HDD, after it's all gone I can use my Acer recovery disks and reinstall Vista Ultimate and Restore PQservice and the other partition ? How do I restore my backed up partitions like PQservice and Acer Arcade if I don't have them already when I use Recovery Disks ?
