Mar 5, 2014I had two of the same Windows 8.1 OS on my Y500 (Cloned from original to SSD). Then Last night I tried to 'refresh without affecting your files' option for my OS on the HDD so I have a fresh OS to go back to incase anything happend. then on the Lenovo screen it said that the E: drive was being refreshed as well so I freaked and turned off the computer. NOw I cant access either of the OS's. What should I do? I did do a back up right before and the back up files are still there in a partition I made in the HDD. I used a USB boot of Puppy LInux to see the files on my HDD but it would not let me transfer it to an External Hard Drive. I will Try to install a better linux and try to transfer the OKR files to another Drive.
-how would I go about restoring the back up files if I were to get them on another drive?

Aug 30, 2009Ive just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a cleaner machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time Ive done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).
Im about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. Im backing up her data, and moving some of my Dads stuff somewhere else.
Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.
As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I dont think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her shes not a heavy user.
Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .
Id like to know the best approach and cant seem to find a set of instructions to follow.

Mar 2, 2013I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.

Nov 27, 2008Im only just burning the factory DVD restore of my system via Acer eRecovery Management. I should have done this a long time ago right when I first recieved my laptop. What ends up on the factory restore DVD?
Another question, my laptop really has noticably slowed down since purchase. I know this is natural...especially as I currently have lots of games installed...only 9GB currently free on C.
This free space varies drastically day to day as restore points seem to automatically be generated by vista. I think this automatically takes place when vista downloads and installs updates. How can I change this? It's annoying as I have a consitently fluctuating amount of free space on C..I frequently delete these points using Tune Up Utilities 2008 which brings me back to the norm.
Also, the D partition seems like a huge waste of space to just leave as it is. There are 103GB free on this partition with only two windows folders existing on there. I have never touched this partition thinking it is there only for disaster situations, like if vista dies and wants to make an image of itself here.
Is this correct or can I move other files onto this partition? Will this increase performance?
Im just trying to increase the speed of my laptop day to day workings. My girfriend was saying that the D partition can maybe be somehow partitioned to speed up the laptop?

Jan 24, 2015Yesterday I launched the recovery manager to re-install an out of the box version of Windows 7.
At 1% of the installation I got the following error Error code: 0xe0ef0003
After this error, I could not start Windows anymore BOOTMGR missing
I tried to press escape and then F11, but once again the process failed
I had also created recovery CD's ( in Total I have 4 ), I try to reinstalled with them by going to F9 and putting the CD to be boot first.
I get the following error "The system recovery media does not support this computer. You are not able to restore this system with the media".

Jul 21, 2014I've just encountered error 1002 while using recovery... Recovery successfully went through reformattng my drive but crashed before reinstaling the original content. It doesn't matter if I try recovering from hard driver nor dvd rom, it all results in error 1002. I've done some searching and it seems it's quite common error in hp products without proper solution. I feel I'm out of luck as my warranty expired years ago.. How can I resolve this issue? For me it seems that recovery content orginally placed on my hard drive (and later burned on the DVD by me) had been damaged.

Method's I've tried: F11 during startup gives me the option to recover Windows 7 from a USB stick. Which is weird because the original OS was Windows 8Rescue and Recovery and OneKey both give me the option to back-up but not to restore from the hidden partition.

Aug 22, 2014The hard drive on HP G62t-350 CTO Notebook was failing. I was able to create a recovery USB in the Recovery Manager. I installed a new 120 GB SSD. The original hard drive was larger, can't remember now but 250 or 500 GB. I know the Recovering the System after the Hard Drive is Replaced (Windows 7) says "To avoid problems, install a hard drive as large or larger than the replaced hard drive," but that's a question for later.
Computer booted fine from USB (in fact, is set to boot from USB if present by default). Recovery Manager starts. I choose minimal install. It goes through the process of partitioning the SSD and copying files. Then says to remove external media and reboot, computer will reboot several times during the process, blah, blah, blah. I pull out the USB and reboot, but after POST I get "No bootable media present".
If I try to reboot leaving the USB in, it boots to USB and we're back at the beginning. I am able to confirm with a rescue disk that the SSD has one NTFS partition that has had Windows files copied to it, and a large amount of unallocated space. (Something like 60%/40%.)
How do I make the hard drive bootable, and if it were bootable, would the recovery process complete?What's going on with the partitions? Is it creating the recovery partition first, and then after boot the recovery partition installs the OS? If so, I might have to abandon this process because since I'm moving to smaller storage, I don't want to devote half of the drive to a recovery partition.

im guessing the other is for storeing stuff and backups.

HP Presario CQ62 Networking :: WiFi Keeps Shutting Off?
Aug 24, 2014Everytime i connect to my router(linksys) it connects but shuts off immediately! I have to turn off the wifi, the turn it on again and when i try to connect to my router...it connects then shuts off just like that! It says "Connections are available" but NO connections appear! Then I repeat this step over and over again till it connects! Ofcourse after soo many failed attempts I just quit..

I have also run all the diagnostics that are available on the laptop and everything come back normal. I don't have the original discs or documentation as I "received this laptop as a "gift/curse" . It is, however, registered to me.

Sep 24, 2014I have tried to restore laptop to oringal factory settings using Gateway Recovery Management disks purchased from Gateway. I have booted from System Disk (1 of 4) which ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 1 which loaded files (100%). Recovery Disk 1 ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 2 which also loaded files (100%). Then a "Restore Progress"window opened and and the process progressed to 79% and gave the following error messages: "WIMApplyImage fail. Error0x570" and "Fail to Restore Image".
Prior to attempting the Restore process, all I get when I start the Gateway NV59C laptop is the following screen:

HP Pavilion 17-e119wm Recovery :: Windows 8.1 Recovery Failure
Nov 14, 2014I had a bad hard drive and HP sent me a new one with 3 recovery discs. I installed windows 8.1 using the 3 discs and got an installation failure message. No error code, just a message with the option to save log, quit, or retry so I retried. Hours passed and I got the same message. Called HP again and the woman told me to run an extensive hard drive test. So I'm waiting 4 hours now for that to do it's thing.
The original hard drive told me there is an imminent hard drive failure upon turning the laptop on every time. Other than that it works fine... so far. I've had the laptop almost a month now and this problem started too late for me to return it to the store....
Is it possible for me to use a recovery disc from the origional hard drive on the new one? I'll put the old one in again and make one.I really don't want to send the laptop away unless there's no other option.

I was having few problems with my computer so using HP Recovery Media Creation I created a USB recovery Key, after using it I was able to factory reset everything but now my windows in not activated, I spoke to Microsoft but they told me to speak to HP about this matter, I am soo confused now
I also decided to update to windows 8.1 to see if it solves any probelm as thats what I had before the factory reset but it is still the same and on the desktop there is a small message which says "Windows 8.1 Build 9600"

Oct 28, 2014Have an Envy M6-K010DX notebook. Due to an internet problem while upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1, the PC doesn't properly boot and Windows Explorer won't load. Decided to 'Refresh' the OS and went to the F11 restore utilities. When I go to the refresh utility and follow the prompts I reach a message that says, "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I've searched support for unlocking instructions and aside from some bootrec commands (that didn't work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disk) not much is available.
The only access I have for running commands is via the Task Manager and F11 command prompt. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway?
