I was having few problems with my computer so using HP Recovery Media Creation I created a USB recovery Key, after using it I was able to factory reset everything but now my windows in not activated, I spoke to Microsoft but they told me to speak to HP about this matter, I am soo confused nowÂ

I also decided to update to windows 8.1 to see if it solves any probelm as thats what I had before the factory reset but it is still the same and on the desktop there is a small message which says "Windows 8.1 Build 9600"Â
I am working on an Envy Pro 4-b000.  The hard drive has failed.  I have a replacement drive on the way, but I did not create a  recovery disk when the laptop was purchased.  It had windows 7 - 64 bit on it previously.  What are my options to getting recovery media for this laptop?
thru HP tech support tried to recover my notebook with no success. instructed to purchase recovery dvd's (they don't offer a usb flash option and I have no internal dvd). they told me to find an external drive so I purchased an HP. they told me to:  - restart my machine with dvd#1 in place and tap F9 to get to boot device order to USB CD/DVD ROM drive - windows starts loading files - I can hear the writer spinning up - recieve an error "boot disc cannot be found", press any key to continue - windows starts loading files and atempts to start - restoration incomplete, hit retry - cycle repeats  HP support said to tap any key as window tries to load - no luck  When I get to the HP Recovery Manager - I've tried System Recovery and Minimized Image recovery - same results  My question is - can my system load from the external DVD drive if it was never activated (ie drivers) thru windows? Can it be done outside of windows? Seems like it can't read from the disc  Can my recovery discs be copied/transferred to a USB flash drive to avoid the external drive completely?
My laptop was beginning to slow down so I've done a reinstall of windows and wiped my SSD clean (I replaced the original HDD with an SSD a while back).  Because of this I've not got a backup partition containing my drivers.  My fingerprint sensor has stopped working.  It says an error has occured whenever I try to use it even though my fingerprint was saved in my user accounts as a sign in option.  Where do I get the driver for this?  Also, I now no longer have HP Recovery Manager that had all of the drivers.  Where can I download this?  PS.  I've downloaded all the drivers on the HP website associated with my laptop here Laptop Drivers  These are the only two things that no longer work and it would be handy to get them sorted.
I have a HP ENVY 17-j053ea which I had to purchase recovery discs for. I used the recovery discs several times following different instructions and using different BIOS settings, and have been in 3 different chats with HP but I am still getting an error message. In the final chat HP told me that I should take the laptop back to the retailer who should repair/replace it for me and if they don't then to contact HP over chat again. Â The error message is a dialog box with a black background titled 'Recovery Manager' and the message says 'The recovery attempt has failed. Select one of the following buttons:' where the buttons are 'Save Log', 'Details' and 'Retry'. If I click on 'Retry' it prompts me to insert disc 1 again, (at the stage of recieving this error message both discs have already been used) and if I click on 'Details' a file named 'CTOERROR.flg' opens in Notepad and contains the following text:

I have purchased Hp Envy 4 with windows 7 recently, By accidently I have lost recoveryMgr.exe files which was originally in D drive.. how can I re download this, (I formatted d drive accidenly)
I have an HP ENVY dv7 Notebook. When the computer was new I tried to make a recovery disc set. When finished I would check the discs ( DVD - R ) I would get a message saying the discs did not write correctly. Tried discs from three different packs, still the same. Called HP Support and they went through the procedure with me, still the same fail. I was told me not to worry if I ever had to have the discs because of a crash they would send them to me for free as they have a record. Now I will be using this computer mainly on the internet and think I should have the discs just in case. Called HP and was told no record, no free discs and it will cost a lot to make the discs. Is there any way to make discs or put the info on a hard drive? I do not know if the computer thinks I made a copy or not since the copies I thought I was making were defective. Â
I recently had an issue with my HP ENVY TS 15 and from using the support chat in the HP Support Assisant I was advised to do a system recovery. Â This has failed and I am now stuck in a loop!
I have owned my HP ENVY TouchSmart 15-j105sa Notebook PC, Part No. F5D08EA for a few months now and would like to upgrade the HDD to a Samsung Evo 840 (500GB) SSD.Could I use the recovery discs i created when I had laptop to install the OS on the new SSD? I know I could do this with previous versions of Windows but with secureboot etc i'm not sure if that can be done with Windows 8 I know it can be disable in BIOS however, I have the latest bios update for my laptop as i check regulary.
I have an interesting problem on my computer where it will boot, then crash, then boot properly. I'm not sure what is causing this (i turned on legacy for a while but reset back to defaults). I tried doing a windows reset already and this didn't work but I figure a complete factory reset should do the trick. I have burned recovery disks but cannot figure out how to use them. In the windows 8 advanced restart, I have tried the option to boot of usb as my dvd drive is external and it doesn't work. How to boot using the recovery disk? (the model is an envy 4)... Â I managed to boot off them by turning off secure boot and changing the boot order to boot off usb optical drive in the bios menu....
Have an Envy M6-K010DX notebook. Due to an internet problem while upgrading from Win 8 to 8.1, the PC doesn't properly boot and Windows Explorer won't load. Decided to 'Refresh' the OS and went to the F11 restore utilities. When I go to the refresh utility and follow the prompts I reach a message that says, "The drive where windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again." I've searched support for unlocking instructions and aside from some bootrec commands (that didn't work - probably because I don't have a Win 8 disk) not much is available.  The only access I have for running commands is via the Task Manager and F11 command prompt. What is this 'locked' drive, anyway?
I bought a used HP envy x from amazon, windows 8. When it's delivered I tried to open it, there's only one user account, and it has a password... What should I do? I tried the password reset thing, but it didn't work?
I have an HP Pavillion model 17-e019dx running Windows 8. Every time I turn it on, it stops at a blue screen that says  Recovery Your PC needs to be repaired  A required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed  Error code 0xc000000f  When I press enter to "Try again" it come back with:  File:WindowsSystem32winload.efi above the error code listed above.  I have tried the Recovery and after MUCH time waiting, it still comes back to the above mentioned screen. I have also run all the diagnostics that are available on the laptop and everything come back normal. I don't have the original discs or documentation as I "received this laptop as a "gift/curse" . It is, however, registered to me.
I'm installing Windows 7 x64 on my HP Envy 14 2090. Â Setup cannot find my harddrive, presumably because a SATA driver is missing. I have tried the supplied SATA driver from HP driver download page for my model, but they don't work. I've tried various others, still no luck. Â The harddrive is found by BIOS. The harddrive has been working without a hitch for years, right up until I tried a re-install. Â PS: I'm not using the HP recovery DVDs, since these install all sorts of unneccessary software I don't want. (Why do all major laptop producers add this crap?) Â Where can I find the correct SATA drivers for use with Windows 7 x64 installation?
I have HP ENVY 15-j101ex NB. I installed UBUNTU and everything on the Hard disk deleted, Can i restore the windows 8.1 OS and How ? The Notebook still on the Warranty...
I had a bad hard drive and HP sent me a new one with 3 recovery discs. I installed windows 8.1 using the 3 discs and got an installation failure message. No error code, just a message with the option to save log, quit, or retry so I retried. Hours passed and I got the same message. Called HP again and the woman told me to run an extensive hard drive test. So I'm waiting 4 hours now for that to do it's thing.
The original hard drive told me there is an imminent hard drive failure upon turning the laptop on every time. Other than that it works fine... so far. I've had the laptop almost a month now and this problem started too late for me to return it to the store.... Â Is it possible for me to use a recovery disc from the origional hard drive on the new one? I'll put the old one in again and make one.I really don't want to send the laptop away unless there's no other option.
I need to download the Recovery Manager for windows 8,  my laptop is the HP TouchSmart 15-b130eaI had to replace the HDD and install windows 8, since doing this i have now managed to  sort out the original HDD and found that the recovery partition is still intact with all the files needed to do a full Factory Restore, sadly i canot do this, unless i can download the RM for windows 8?

I have recently bought an HP envy m6-laptop, and I constantly get a warning message alerting the Recovery disc is full. I have a Windows 8 operating system on the computer, and I have tried to follow the guidelines. That solution was however for the Windows 7 and I got stuck halfways without solving the problem.

Ok I was a bone head and apparently did not give the bios enough time to complete. I'v done Bios upgrades hundreds of times. So apparently I powered down somewhere during the upgrade I.E. the computer will not reboot now. Unit is a Envy 4-1030us 16gb ram 128gb ssd drive running win 8.1
i have create data recovery in my hp envy m6 through portable dvd writer but after the created of recovery now when i try to install image recovery its not working what i should do now?
Since the newer models from HP comes with windows 8, a friend of mine wanted me to install windows 7 instaid. Said and done. Almost. When I was done and the OS was configuring it stated that the hardware is not compatible with this version of windows.Since I use my computer, I don't like the original windows you get from the branded computers, all the programs that are forced on to you are a pain. Therefor, as usual, I removed every single trace of the original. Including the recovery disc. Â How in the world of the living am I suppose to fix her computer, that now serves as nothing else than a bookstand? Apparently you no longer get a product key on a sticker on the back of your computer anymore.
I was going to install w7 with a legit key, no piracy.
I’ve just done a clean install of my Dell Vostro -- reinstalling vista and removing the recovery partition in the process. Outcome = a ‘cleaner’ machine with none of the preinstalled bloatware/c**p from Dell. (first time I’ve done anything like this, but followed a brill guide in the Dell section of this forum ).
I’m about to tackle my Mums Compaq Presario C310EA. The aim is to remove all the rubbish she has accumulated over the years, incl any spyware/ adware she may have, and generally have a bit of a clean sweep…. hopefully resulting in a faster laptop. I’m backing up her data, and moving some of my Dad’s stuff somewhere else.
Basically I want to clean up as much as poss, but unfortunately she has no xp disk, just the recovery disks (cds) she burned when she first got the laptop.
As she has no xp disk I guess the best I can hope for is to reset the laptop to the factory settings (?) .. not ideal, but I don’t think the (factory set) bloatware is too much of an issue for her – she’s not a heavy user.
Should I use the recovery partition for this, or do I need to use the cds she burned? .
I’d like to know the best approach – and can’t seem to find a set of instructions to follow.
Equipment: HP Notebook g7 Operating system: Windows 8  I purchased a Pavilion g7 laptop in December 2012. The 1TB HDD that came with the laptop started to go bad on me. After several attempts to 'system self-repair' (which failed) I purchased a replacement Seagate SSHD 1TB HD. Since I did not have any Windows 8 recovery discs I contacted HP, paid for and had them sent to me.  So now I have a new SSHD, new W8 recovery discs and my laptop. I replaced the HD and started the recovery process per the paper instructions that came with the discs.  At 4% (in the 'Copying files required to restore the hard drive phase') I get an error message:                     Reducer (Title of the error message)                     Copy File Fails                    From: D:/PRELOAD/BASE14.SWM                    To: C:/RM/Image/BASE14.SWM                      Press OK to retry.  Obviously since I'm posting about this simply pressing 'OK to retry' did not work. I powered the laptop down and restarted the recovery process. I got the same error message at the same point described above.
I have an HP Pavilion dv6000 and run Windows Visa Home Edition.I wanted to restore my laptop to its factory settings but the Recovery Manager wouldn't work. When I clicked on it it would just restart the computer without anything else happening. I then right clicked on the computer >manage> disk manager and made the recovery partition active. When I rebooted the computer it began showing:Bootmgr is missingPress Ctrl+Alt+DeleteWhich of course leads back to the same message after te computer reboots. I can't access F8 key. Only F10 (Bios) works. I don't have a recovery or installation CD as it didn't come with the laptop when I purchased it.Is there anyway I can change the active partition back to the C drive, this disabling the recovery partition? I read that it was possible to access disk manager from cmd prompt window, but I don't know how to access it since the F8 key won't work (makes just a bipping noise when pressed)?I am also out of the country so can't mail my laptop to HP to have it fixed.
I just accepted the delivery of my 5 brand new notebooks for my company's new workers.  3 of those notebooks are HP Probook 450 G2's (PN: J4R69EA) (These are the models with the 128GB SSD drives) The other two are Lenovo E540’s with similar specs.  So first things first, create recovery media. So that is done before I hand them to the end users in question. While trying to create the windows disc, the "HP Recovery Disc Creator" program demands Dual layer DVD's: "Please insert a Dual-Layer DVD to proceed" The DVD's in question I’m using are "Sony DVD+R 120min/4.7GB" discs that in the past have always worked. (and at this moment are working for the Lenovo portables)   [URL] Unfortunately this is not the same interface I have. I can only choose a drive to create a backup to (in this case it is Drive F: for internal drive) I also tried an external DVD writer with the same results.  I have not tried a USB stick, but this is not what I want and since you can only create one set of backups…  Link to a screenshot: (you need to copy paste it into your browser apparently)  [URL]  This would not be that big of a problem if there was an actual windows 7 key printed on the portable. If I had a key, I would just reinstall the machine straight away with a clean windows 7 image so I dont have to clean out all the HP software. but unfortunatly this is not the case. so i need a Windows 7 Recovery disc to be created.
ive just finished setting up my new acer ES1-512, And was about to make my recovery media through the acer console in windows 8.1, and the program will not open ? i get to the part where it wants me to allow the program to make changes, but then nothing happens ? i have tried going to the file location its self to to start the program but this makes no difference, ive looked all over acers site to see if i can re-download the console but have found nothing?
