I have probook 4540s and i installed windows 7 prof. (X64) i have the following problems in the device manager:
1- base system device (Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 3, device 0, function 0))
2- base system device (Location: PCI Slot 2 (PCI bus 3, device 0, function 3))
3- unknown device (location: on PCI bus)
Those are the three drivers ...
I currently have a HP ProBook 4540s Notebook PC(Energy Star) laptop and found that my Base System Device Drivers are missing. I have been trying very hard to find them but to no avail.

I have tried few drivers and windows update but it doesn't seem to work for me.
This is my 3rd day since i bought this new HP probook 4540s [Product No. B9A39PA#UUF] and i like it, i made a clean install for windows 7 ultimate x64 and i've just realised that the hp drivers support page dose not has any drivers for the ultimate version, so i downloaded the proffesional drivers, now i have all devices are installed except two devices named unknown device

I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1183cl that has been upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and I have some issues.I have four errors showing up in my device manager, three Base System Device and one Unknown Device, and I don't know what they are or where to get the drivers (since I don't know what they are). Additionally, the battery will not charge (there does not appear to be anything wrong with it physically). I am wondering if the below errors are related to the battery issue. I'm using HP ProBook 4730s, product A1E71EA. I recently installed windows 7 ultimate x64 and I went to install my drivers. There i have two of them that say 'base system device' when i try to automatically update them using upade driver it says that it cannot do it.Also i have there one that says network controller, one is universal serial bus, pci simple communication and an unknown device.

Recently I did a clean windows 732 bit installation on my Hp dv2500 notebook because i was having some problem with the original vista OS. Anyway I noticed that, under device manager 3 drivers were missing...namely:

I've just recently upgraded my system from XP to Win 7 and I've been unable to find drivers for two "base system devices". I'm on a Compaq Presario V3440TU and my CPU is a Core 2 Duo T5300, and chipset is Intel 945GM.
The missing drivers are most probably for the Ricoh Card reader in my laptop, since I remember facing the same problem while re-installing XP once...

I have a HP Elitebook 8440p Notebook PC with Windows 7, 64 bit. I had to reinstall Windows 7 and all the necessary drivers. My remaining issue is the Missing Base System Driver. The message I get from Device Manager is:

I have this as an "other device" in device manager. I had to do a full reinstall a month ago but thought all the things were installed.
Also there is a second "unknown device" with location "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" are these related or is this a second issue ?

I tried my best to fix it, but unsuccesssful.
I just purchased a new probook 4540s core i5 with win7 x64 system.
Firstly, When battery full charged then turned laptop off for a few hours or next day it becomes 99% or 98% although its plugged in Ac power. Shutdown again for 1 hour and turn on it turns to 97%. Is that ok or there is problem in battery specially it shows that ( Plugged in, Not chareged ) so laptop should operate at AC adapter and battery remain 100%. Secondly, I have an unknown device can't find it as shown in figure below.
I got my new laptop today, and got rid of the installed Dell Crap and installed my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

When I restore the image (to the same machine) the Ricoh Card reader has status of Base System Device under Other Devices. I have tried reapply the drivers, deleting the device with drivers and rebooting so that the machine can redetect the device. No luck, just stays at Base System Device.

A look at the Device Manager (Windows 7, 64-bit) shows the "Base System Device", and reports "The drivers for this device are not installed." Attempting to get Windows to natively install the drivers does not work. Some googling shows others with similar troubles in the past; recommendations include installing a Ricoh card reader driver for Windows XP or Vista; this did not work. Other available drivers include 8ass82ww.exe and 8axv51ww.exe - these do not work. Installing Lenovo's own Support Center software shows the Base System Device driver is not installed. I can't find a way to install it. I've tried installing driver exe files and searching for those same files using the Windows browse-for-files window when installing drivers for Base System Device.
