Lenovo X Series ThinkPad :: Carbon X1-base System Device Error
Feb 8, 2014I got this base system device error in my device manager. I have installed X1 Ricoh multicard reader but still can't solve it.
My machine is X1-3444-BDU, Win 7 pro 64bit.

Aug 30, 2013I have a machine (used for creating master images) with all the drivers loaded. I perform a last CloneZilla image (before doing the sysprep). When I restore the image (to the same machine) the Ricoh Card reader has status of Base System Device under Other Devices. I have tried reapply the drivers, deleting the device with drivers and rebooting so that the machine can redetect the device. No luck, just stays at Base System Device.

May 6, 2012This morning upon booting up my ThinkPad W520, the multi-card reader is no longer working. A look at the Device Manager (Windows 7, 64-bit) shows the "Base System Device", and reports "The drivers for this device are not installed." Attempting to get Windows to natively install the drivers does not work. Some googling shows others with similar troubles in the past; recommendations include installing a Ricoh card reader driver for Windows XP or Vista; this did not work. Other available drivers include 8ass82ww.exe and 8axv51ww.exe - these do not work. Installing Lenovo's own Support Center software shows the Base System Device driver is not installed. I can't find a way to install it. I've tried installing driver exe files and searching for those same files using the Windows browse-for-files window when installing drivers for Base System Device.

Jun 22, 2012I have this as an "other device" in device manager. I had to do a full reinstall a month ago but thought all the things were installed.
Also there is a second "unknown device" with location "on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller" are these related or is this a second issue ?

Jun 14, 2013I have a Carbon Touch 3444-CUU that can't see it's fingerprint reader. It used to work when brand new, but after lots of lenovo and windows updates, it now does not:
I am on Windows 8.1, with all updates. No problems in device manager.
Touchchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) installed under Biometric devices fine.
Power management set to _not_ turn off device to save power.
The bios is 2.61.
I suspect the problem is very low-level, because even the BIOS cannot find device when trying to set it up.
If I have the latest BIOS, but it can't see the device - what can I do?

I inserted the the micro sim but the system did not recognized it. Do I need anything else? Even there is no tool to run broadand/internet. The SIM works fine in the cell phone.

Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T420 - Base System Device Driver Not Working On Windows 7
Jul 7, 2014After reinstalling W7 the lenovo solution center was complaining saying that the System Device Driver is not working. I saw that the SD card reader was not working neither so I assumend the missing driver was that one.
From the Lenovo page I dowloaded the driver for the Multi Card port for W7 and T420. After installing it the message dissapeared and the SD cards were recognized properly.
However, after rebooting the system, after a while, the mesage appeared again and the card reader stopped working.
I did install it again and the same happened. It was working and after two reboots stopped working.

Mar 11, 2010I got my new laptop today, and got rid of the installed Dell Crap and installed my Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

Sep 7, 2014I have an HP Pavilion dv5-1183cl that has been upgraded from Windows Vista to Windows 7 Ultimate (32bit) and I have some issues.I have four errors showing up in my device manager, three Base System Device and one Unknown Device, and I don't know what they are or where to get the drivers (since I don't know what they are). Additionally, the battery will not charge (there does not appear to be anything wrong with it physically). I am wondering if the below errors are related to the battery issue. Aug 29, 2014I'm using the W540 with an ultradock and external monitors. After upgrading my W540 to win8.1 64 bit, device manager is showing an unknown device. I'm not quite sure what it is, but almost everything seems to be working fine and Lenovo solution center isn't finding any driver updates.
I did notice that the solution center hardware scan did not test the video card memory and listed that test as N/A. Video and monitors seem to be working fine though and both nvidia and intel graphics show up in device manager.
Device manager lists the device in question as follows:

There i have two of them that say 'base system device' when i try to automatically update them using upade driver it says that it cannot do it.Also i have there one that says network controller, one is universal serial bus, pci simple communication and an unknown device.

Aug 27, 2013My X1 is about 18 months old. It was fine until today. The battery was low, so I plugged it in. The little blue light where the power connects illuminated, however the battery indicater in Windows did not change to show "charging", and the battery continued to drain.
Over the next hour or so I tried many things like shutting down, waiting, new A/C outlet, new power settings, etc. Tried the little reset hole on the bottom of the laptop. Nothing mattered... the little blue light is on, but the battery just drains.
Eventually, the battery drained and the X1 shut down. When I try to boot, I get a pre-boot message about a critical low power error, even plugged in, so my laptop is now a brick.This is a 3448-34U Thinkpad Carbon X1.

Dec 21, 2013I have an AC adapter left over from my first generation X1 Carbon. It is 90W/20V. The adapter that came with the new machine is quite a bit smaller, and only 65W/20V. Can I use the 90 watt adapter with the new model X1, or will it damage it somehow? Dont want to ruin my brand new computer.

Jul 3, 2014I've just recently upgraded my system from XP to Win 7 and I've been unable to find drivers for two "base system devices". I'm on a Compaq Presario V3440TU and my CPU is a Core 2 Duo T5300, and chipset is Intel 945GM.
The missing drivers are most probably for the Ricoh Card reader in my laptop, since I remember facing the same problem while re-installing XP once...
