Apr 20, 2009about once a week my windows and bios system time and date keep on getting reset to jan 1, 2001.
i change the date on the bios and/or vista but the problem keep on coming back

Acer :: 8930G Cpu Is Moving Between 30% And 100% All The Time
Feb 2, 2010I have an Aspire 8930G and his cpu is moving between 30% and 100% all the time and its working quite slowly I used ccleaner and Spybot and still it works slowly what can be done? also in preformence on Task menger i see a 100% in cpu usege but when i go to the processor tab all i see in sum are no more then 30-35% cpu usege

Jul 22, 2009The notebook is a compaq presario c500.The seconds are not counting in the bios setup screen.Obviously the clock is wrong whenever the pc is turned off and or restarted.I have already replaced the battery(cr2032 3V)twice to make sure it is not that.I also updated the bios.That did not work. Apr 16, 2009I own an HP Pavilion dv6000.
I am constantly losing my time and sometimes date. I have checked that I have selected the correct time zone many times. The clock always jumps backwards, not forward and it is never a set amount of time. However it is usually between 30-45 minutes back. Very rarely the date will randomly jump back several years. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Some friends have told me it could be:
1)Virus or such, but i have done several scans already.
2) Dying CMOS battery
3) Or something about BIOS time being off, I'm not sure what it meant.
I guess if it is the CMOS battery, is there anything i should know before replacing it (like saving some settings or something?) or can i just unscrew the back of my laptop pop out the battery and pop in a new one?

Mar 26, 2009Seeing as I pretty much made up my mind and want to buy a Acer Aspire 8930G, I hope somebody here can give me some specific advice. Maybe someone who owns one of the laptops (I hope there aren't any differences, depending on the country you live in)
I am looking at the Acer Aspire 8930G-644G32MN or the ACER Aspire 8930G-584G32BN. The first one is 300 Euro's cheaper than the last one. Besides that big difference I can't seem to find any. Did I miss some specific diffence, like do they both have Surround Sound and a BluRay drive and a full HD screen? Does any of the two support DVB-T? Do they both have a 9600 GT graphics card?
The reason why I ask is because I looked through, I don't know how many internetsites with specs and it's amazing how they all differ, obviously mainly copied and pasted from other internetsites. And I really want to get the right one and not regret my purchase after a while.

Mar 26, 2013I've never seen this before. recently (and I mean within the last few days) my laptop has picked up this strange quirk that it resets its system time to 10/10/10 10:10am. I've done a full virus scan (microsoft security essentials) and turned up nothing - a clean system. Windows 7, not that much crap on it, mostly games. Fully updated.Â
Anyway, part of me is thinking cmos battery, but the paranoid side is reformatting and reinstalling anyway, as much as I hate to do it again. My question is, is this the default time the bios will reset to in the event of a bad cmos battery? Or have I maybe picked something up I haven't detected.
At any rate I've had this machine for less than a year, I find it highly unusual that the cmos battery would die so quickly. I have ancient desktops that are still ticking.Â
HP/Compaq :: Dv2 Graphic Glitch
Jan 4, 2010I own this dv2-1122ax for 2 months and I have this random issue where my screen will freeze for 5-10secs, followed by a black screen and recover to the initial screen.
There's a bubble message saying "Display driver atikmdag stopped responding and has successfully recovered" error
This issue happens in windows environment. While web browsing, watching videos, going through menus or exploring through "My Computer"
It happens with factory vista image and even in windows 7 (upgrade/fresh) with factory drivers, updated drivers from hp.com after driver sweeper from guru3d.
I even tried the 9.9 ati mobility driver and the latest ati drivers with mobility mod tool.
Is this a hardware fault or driver incompatibility?
Right now, the notebook is with hp service centre and I just got a text message from hp saying "the part for your unit is currently on part hold"

May 30, 2010I did a fresh reinstall of Windows 7 Professional, 64-bit on my Sony Vaio VGN-Z790DND laptop.
I tried following the guides posted on the forums on what order to install the utilities, etc to get everything working.
So far, I think I got almost everything working except for the "speed" video card. It runs the Nvidia 9300M GS chipset. I downloaded the driver straight from Sony and tried to install it .....

Sep 14, 2009I'll be typing on a website or a document, and suddenly the cursor will appear somewhere else in the document. It doesn't happen all the time, maybe once every couple of minutes of continuous typing, but it's incredibly annoying espcially when the cursor appears all the way at the top of a long text.
I think it's some sort of software error, because I don't remember it happening before I did the clean Vista install.
One time when it occured I happened to be pressing the Shift key, it selected all my text, which makes it seem like it thinks I'm pressing an arrow key or something (but my hands are only touching the letter keys)
Acer Aspire 5552-5898 :: Not Always Booting And Motherboard Won't Hold Date
Nov 30, 2014I have a 4 year old Aspire 5552-5898 which is having issues ....

First issue is that the Laptop doesn't always boot. When this happens, the power button will light, the fan will spin, the HDD will start, but the screen stays black. Sometimes the PC will restart but the same thing will happen. Usually when this happens, if you hold down the power button, the laptop will power down, only to start up again. The only way to end this cycle is to unplug the machine and pull out the battery. Also of note this seems to happen 100% of the time if the machine is not plugged in, and about 50% of the time when it is.

The next issue occurs when the machine does actually boot. I HAVE to enter the bios because it never holds the date. I thought this could be a CMOS battery issue, but even after replacing that, the problem persists. After entering the date, and saving and exiting, the machine will boot into windows just fine.
Sony :: Z Series Hybrid Graphics, Intel Glitch
Mar 17, 2010how to fix it? Basically when on Stamina Mode, sometimes the graphics will get minor graphical glitches. This doesn't happen immediatly, after like 1-2 hours of use.
The glitches are not usually that bad, can still work within it if wanted.
However in Speed Mode, it never glitches.

Mar 20, 2009just got my Studio's palm rest replaced today since the touchpad freaked out after I accidentally spilled water on it, thank God for complete warranty.
However, the replacement palm rest seems to have the pattern on which came with my old Studio, the graphite pattern. Here are some before and after pics, and some pics showing what happens when the media panel does the all buttons stay lit glitch.
This an example of the later palm rests. However, I had this on my Studio before the palm rest change because I received a replacement which had the newer palm rest. So, this is the before picture .....
Acer :: 8930G Blu Ray
Jun 20, 2009I've had my Acer Aspire 8930G for about 4 months now, bought it brand new for around £800.
I've never really tried playing Blu Rays on it, infact I've not even watched one all the way through, I've only tested 2 when I first bought the laptop.
I've just tried to watch a brand new genuine blu ray film, but the acer arcade constantly stops working and the blu ray doesn't load up to play the film (it loads the adverts prior to the film but not the actual film) acer arcade asks to check for soultions to the problem but doesn't bring any up when I click get solutions.
If I don't get that error message I get a message along the lines of an unexpected error occured, please reboot your machine.
The blu ray is brand new, scratch free and plays fine on other blu ray players.
on the acer arcade menu I've gone to settings and clicked live update, it says connecting and then a message comes up saying no update is available, so I assume it's upto date although I don't recall updating it three times?
The version I'm using is: 2.1.6010

Whats the problem? Other blu rays won't play either and they take forever to load up until the point, acer arcade has stopped working pops up?

I have created factory restore dvds in case I need to revert anyway.
But I do not want to spend ages installing windows 7 if there are no acer drivers etc for it.
Has anyone who has this laptop installed windows 7 and is it working?
I have been given an official 64 bit version of windows 7 (some guy I know is on some training course or something) but I cant find out info about it.
Obviously I need the dash thing to work for volume control, I use the fingerprint reader a lot too, I also have a tv card with my laptop (Havent managed to find channels yet though!!). Basically I want to see if everything works? IE do the vista drivers work?

Feb 26, 2009Basically, the laptop can't find any wireless networks in range, normally it finds several.
I know the wireless router / internet are fine because if I plug the Ethernet cable into the laptop from the router, the laptop goes online and likewise my old laptop will connect to the internet via wireless straight away.
On my new laptop, I've tried several ways to make it find the router but all it says is it can't find anything. I've clicked diagnosis why it can't find anything and it comes up with wireless is currently OFF and needs turning on by a button normally found on the top or side of the laptop.
I've clicked the button and it's 100% on, yet it keeps telling me it's not. The orange wireless light which normally comes on when it is connected isn't coming on either.
Any ideas? I've restarted the laptop and reset the router but nothing and I haven't changed anything, it just went off last night whilst on MSN and browsing eBay.
It's running Windows Vista and using Intel(R) Wireless Wifi Link 5100.
I've tried everything I can think off but end result is always it can't find any networks.

Jul 4, 2009My notebook is Acer 8930G and my network adapter is an Atheros AR8121/AR8113/AR8114 and i used to have as a wired router a Dlink 524T, which i changed with a Netgear DG834 during my many attempts to resolve in vain my internet problems as i did with my ethernet cables.
About a week ago,suddenly my notebook ceased to have any internet connection and my status varied from local only to limited connectivity while both the green and orange lights on the adapter came and went continiously.
After a casual scan with Malwarebytez antispyware,it turned out that i had 9 infections from the trojan BHO,which turned out to origin from Acer itself,as it was part of the recovery hidden partition.This trojan appeared as Partner BHO that ran as an add on to Internet explorer and was part of the Acer-Google toolbar present at IE.
After innumerable efforts and formats,i somehow cleaned(so it seems without being 100% certain) my PC.The only thing is that the problem persists with the connection,while two other computers that share the network with me,didn't and still don't have any problems whatsoever.
My Atheros adapter functions as follows:The green light on the right is stable for a few seconds subsequently dissapears for an instance and then returns while the orange light beeps only at the presense of the green light.My network status vary from Local only to limited connectivity most of the times and sometimes it turns to no connectivity.The device manager indicates that all devices are working properly without any explanatory or question marks underneath any of them

Dec 16, 2008I think I have found my next laptop and its pendling between 8930g and 6935g but I cant decide.
I know both have 2-3 different speccs but Im thinking 8930g with p8400 (2.26gz) and 6935g with t9400 (2.5).
