View 5 RepliesThe notebook is a compaq presario c500.The seconds are not counting in the bios setup screen.Obviously the clock is wrong whenever the pc is turned off and or restarted.I have already replaced the battery(cr2032 3V)twice to make sure it is not that.I also updated the bios. That did not work. What controls the time?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI own an HP Pavilion dv6000.
I am constantly losing my time and sometimes date. I have checked that I have selected the correct time zone many times. The clock always jumps backwards, not forward and it is never a set amount of time. However it is usually between 30-45 minutes back. Very rarely the date will randomly jump back several years. I'm not sure what the problem is.
Some friends have told me it could be:
1)Virus or such, but i have done several scans already.
2) Dying CMOS battery
3) Or something about BIOS time being off, I'm not sure what it meant.
I guess if it is the CMOS battery, is there anything i should know before replacing it (like saving some settings or something?) or can i just unscrew the back of my laptop pop out the battery and pop in a new one?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a W530, with i7 and 16G standard setup. I want to enable HV-X and found they are marked as Disabled, and gray-out in BIOS, also date is gray-out also.
i7 must support virtualizaion, while time setting is gray-out, I think this is either a security issue or a BIOS bug, but I had same problem with 2013 Feb BIOS, and also update to 2014 latest BIOS, same problem here.
After rebooting my system I now come to a screen to enter system password. Only thing is.. I never set this and there is no way around it.I have tried the take battery out reset CMOS trick that used to work in desktops to no avail.
This is the message I get after too many password attempts.

I just bought an Edge 130 and wanted to set it up today. But I just can't enter the BIOS! I keep pressing F1 during the Lenovo splash screen. I've pressed it repeatedly, held it down, I even tried it with the Fn button pressed. Nothing worked.
I've have been working with and professionally supporting Lenovo (and before IBM) notebooks for over 10 years and not once did I have such a problem. This is only the second E-series notebook I have ever had. I bought myself an E525 last summer and had no such problems and at work we have T-, X- and W-series.
How to enter bios in pavilion15-n238tx I'm trying with F10 when start up but nothing pop out !!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently been completely unable to access the set-up area of my bios on my Dell XPS 17 L702x laptop. On booting, i keep pressing the F2 key which seems to be registered by the BIOS as the text that says 'Set-Up' lights up. However, instead of entering the setup, the BIOS simply continues booting my operating system. Even if I remove all of the hard drive's, I cannot enter the set up and the BIOS boots to the PXE Setup.
I have tried reflashing the BIOS but nothing changes, the set-up is still inaccessible. I can't even change the boot order using the F12 key.
I really need access to my BIOS and I am all out of options.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy machine is Lenovo Z580 with Windows 7. Some time ago I accidentally installed Linux Mint on my whole HDD, so all the partitions and files (including recovery partition) were erased. I then installed back Windows 7 and partitioned the HDD.
However, since the incident, I'm unable to enter BIOS. I'd like to change boot sequence, because the laptop wants to boot from network, displays an error, and then boots from HDD and Windows 7 starts. I can access boot manager with F12 during boot, and the entries are (those aren't the exact names of course, except the first one):
1. ubuntu <- yes, that's how it's called. I guess it's a remnant of Linux Mint installation
2. booting from network
3. booting from HDD
4. booting from DVD
5. booting from USB
I tried the following things:
1. pressing F2 at boot. it used to work before the incident, now the laptop ignores it and proceeds to attempting boot from network, displays an error, and then boots from HDD.
2. using Novo button instead of power button, then choosing "BIOS setup" option - the laptop still proceeds to boot OR displays black screen and need to be shut down
3. removing boot entries using Ubuntu via USB stick [URL] ..... - I can't remove any entry, because after using
>efibootmgr -v
no list appears, and when I enter
>efibootmgr -B -b 001
or any other number, I get an error that the entry wasn't found.
I can't flash BIOS because Lenovo didn't provide the necessary file for this model. I also can't sent the laptop to repair because my warranty period ended two months ago.
So, I flashed the file attached here: [URL] .... and everything works now! the "ubuntu" entry has been automatically deleted and I was able to access BIOS and change the boot order.
Before installing ... write down MAC address of your LAN card, because it'll get deleted after BIOS update!
1. press windows key+R, type cmd and press Enter.....
2. in the opened command window, type ipconfig /all and press Enter, find the entry regarding your Ethernet connection and write down the physical address....
3. Flash BIOS update
4. After reboot follow this guide: [URL] .....
The original hdd was stopped functioning on my aspire v5-431. I try to put in other laptop but wont spin at all. The laptop was preinstalled with Windows 8 UEFI and safe boot on or something like that and gpt partition i guess and now i can not boot or enter in bios, how to flash bios or to install on this new hdd windows 8.
I tried everything from removing the motherboard batteryto boot from usb with bios file and Crisis files and nothing. The f2 button doesn't work and acer crisis recovery ask for wph file format and i just have rom file format.
which ('version')/ date your laptop was made/shipped from the factory.
I need this info to compare it to another one of the same kind that was purchased this week.. I want to know if HP has released a 'second generation' of some kind.. or just improved something significantly.
after switching the boot settings from uefi to legacy, I can't enter my bios anymore.
Neither with F2 nor F12.
He shows me that "Operating System can't be found".
Did the switching for testing another OS.
Is there any trick to enter the bios to switch again to uefi mode?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am unable to enter the BIOS (or the boot device and application menu) of my T530. When I press Enter at the 'Press Enter to interrupt normal startup' prompt, nothing happens. It just ignores my input completely. F1 doesn't do anything either.
Otherwise my ThinkPad is working fine, but I would like to change some settings (especially change the boot device, to boot from USB).

Unable to access BIOS with F10 screen shows: "Enter CURRENT Password" and when entering 3 times the wrong password. It give error and ask me to press F2 to boot the OS. I could boot the OS no problem.
It seems I got the same problem that customers have with the T530. After removing the bios password I have no chance to get into the BIOS.
Bios Version: 1.11 (uefi only enabled)
OS: Windows 8 (x64)
I tried:
- Remove all drives (mSATA SSD, ODD, HDD)
- Press F1 at the Lenovo screen
- Tried all options in the Windows boot menu
- Pressed the Enter key at the Lenovo screen
Unfortunately there don't exist a BIOS update for the W530. So how I get into the BIOS?
