Acer :: Deleted A Folder Containing 180 GB Of Data From My 8920 (with 640gb Hdd)
Nov 6, 2008
I accidentally (don't ask how) deleted a folder containing 180 GB of data from my 8920 (with 640gb hdd), and foolishly emptied the recycle bin after that. The data was in drive d: please give me some help guys..i have no idea how to recover my life which is my-180gb folder. Honestly, this is the most f-up error that ever happened to me
Few weeks ago I brought the WD blue 640GB, and lately swapped it out and put the old Hard drive back in because the WD was making too much noises. AFter I putting the old one back in here, the OS X starts running at the temperature of 56-58 degree C. The CPU is also running something such that it's used percentage is jumping around 10% and 20 % constantly. I start using it right now, and the upper left corner is getting warmer without running any significant job.
As far as I am concerned; the two graphic cards are not hugely different in performance. Is that $480 difference solely for CPU worth it?
I am not a huge gamer, but I do play some games occasionally and don't mind being blown away by the photo-realistic graphics in the future.
So the thing is, with the 2.5GHz, I may be able to swap with a much better graphics card and able able to play games with awesome graphic a few years down the road; whereas, with only 2.0GHz CPU, you can't really do much.
I have a Aspire 8920 and I run World of Warcraft and I had terrible problems with low fps, when I check my cpu monitor thing in windows side bar when the low fps happens I see that its maxed at 100% so I had sent my machine back to Acer to be repaired and they have aparently replaced the graphix card.
I have the machine back now and Im still having major issues trying to run WoW, the only way I get a steadyish frame rate is if I have to have all settings down to min which obviously makes the game play a little naff. With any increase in setting raiding is an inpossibility, its just unplayable.
Is this machine of capable spec to be able to run it effienciently or should I get a big hammer and smash it to bits? or is there more of a underlying problem that acer may not of picked up on at the time? or is there something that I can do to enhance it performance.
My partner plays SIMS3 and even with that installed on here its really jumpy.
Laptop is a 8920. It plays blu-ray discs through acer arcade just fine. When you plug in the HDMI cable to the TV it will seem like it's playing then it stops and gives an error message. It will play movies off the hard drive through the HDMI cable to the TV just fine. I downloaded an installed the latest video driver. I have reinstalled vista (alt F10) as well. I sent the laptop back to Acer and they intalled a brand new blu-ray drive.
I've been searching around, but haven't found much info on upgrading some components of the 8920...I'll have to admit that my search skills are not top notch...
I'm leaning towards the 8920-6030 model, but there's a few things I'd like changed.
Can the CPU be upgraded? I'm thinking about slapping a T9x00 in there. Maybe a T9500 instead of the T8100. I know the CPU here isn't much of a bottleneck, but I'm a nut.
Can the GPU be upgraded? I looked at the manual that was posted here on the forum, and it showed a "GPU Socket". Does that mean I can pull out the 9500M and stick something like a 8800M GTX in it's place?
How does the Acer 8930 differ from the 8920 - and in particular, from the 8920-6746? I was just about to order the Acer AS8920-6746 from Newegg - and then I saw a reference to the 8930, which appears to be a newer model.
i was just wondering about the specs for this drive like the writing speeds for cd-r, cd-rws and such and cant find a phone number for the company to call and ask them because i have been having problems using cd-rws like verbatim 16x-24x wont work but my LG 10x works fine and same with an hp 10x cd-rw is there a reason for this?
I bought the Aspire 8920 from Best Buy here in Canada. You can view the specs of my configuration of the 8920 here.
I absolutely LOVE the laptop. I love high resolution; I love the Blu-ray drive; I love the 4Gigs of Ram; I love the 2 hard drives which give me almost 3/4 of a terabyte. Acer even sent me an additional power adapter and additional battery for FREE (I think the agent I was talking to was just having a good day). Everything about this laptop is awesome! Except one thing...
My configuration comes with the T5750 processor. It turns out that the T5750 doesn't support Intel Virtualization Technology. I've been intending on installing Windows Server 2008 as my primary OS so that I can use Hyper-V (I've heard great things about it, but I haven't really touched it too much yet), but I just found out that you MUST have a processor that either has Intel VT or AMD-V or else Hyper-V will not work. Currently I use VMWare Workstation for my VMs but I can't have any 64-bit guest OSs because of the same problem... my processor doesn't have VT. Don't ask me why I didn't research all this stuff BEFORE buying my new laptop... I'm still kicking myself for that.
So... onto my question(s). There are some configurations of the 8920 that have processors that support Intel VT (ie. T7500, T9500, etc.). I want to, again, upgrade to a machine that has a processor that I need... but I love the Aspire 8920 too much so I think I'm just going to get one of those higher configurations. However, there is a little problem. Intel VT comes turned off by default. The only way for it to be turned on is in the BIOS. I've read in several forums that a few manufacturers are either forgetting to add this BIOS setting or just not doing it at all.
Question 1) To anyone reading this who has an Aspire 8920 with a processor that supports Intel VT (Find out if your processor has VT support): a) What processor do you have? b) Do you know what configuration of the Aspire 8920 you have (ie. 8920-6671)? c) Can you confirm if there is a "Virtualization" or "VT" setting in the BIOS?
Question 2) To anyone reading this that does a lot of virtualizing on their Aspire 8920: a) What virtualization software are you using? b) What guest OSs are you running and what are you using them for? c) Do the VMs run well for you?
Question 3) Since were somewhat on the topic, is there anyone that has some experience with Hyper-V and virtualization under Windows Server 2008; and if so, what are you personal opinions on it compared to other virtualization solutions out there?
if it's possible to switch LCD panel between Aspire 892 and 8930. Since the 8930 that I have is only HD+ capable, I'd like ti "plug" the full HD LCD panel from 8920G that I also owne. Is there technical manuals about how to fully dismantle a laptop?
I am creating a clean install disc for vista home premium to eventually use in a dual boot with XP 32 or 64,
I am following some guides that were recommended to me by Ops on NBR. (Stallen/Orev) and I am going step by step. I have found that the SWSetup is for HP laptops only.? I have located the DRV file which has all drivers for the Acer 5100-5674 (or most)
Is there a folder similar to SWSetup that has the "crapware" . I would like to make sure I backup everything that I may want now or in the future.
has anyone been successful in clean installing vista home premium on a 5100-5674?
I have a curious issue that has begun to pop up, I believe after I installed a few drivers from laptopvideo2go. Long story short I tried to reset back to the old Acer drivers and I spent a few hours trying to get my video to turn back on.
But here's the actual problem - some games will randomly minimize on startup and then not allow me to switch to them.
I first noticed this with Frets on Fire, where I would boot it up, it would look like it would work and then stay minimized for a while. Click on it in the taskbar and it would either pretend to go to the game or just sit there, moving my mouse to the top left corner. Alt-Tab, similar, sometimes works sometimes doesn't. If I do Switch To in task manager, it works a bit more often but sometimes takes a few times.
I've now noticed this with COD4, Fallout 3, and Trackmania Nations. Fallout 3 causes the game to crash. I've tried stopping as many open programs/processes as possible and it sometimes fixes it, sometimes doesn't.
If it isn't clear, I have an Acer Aspire 8920G with a 9500M GS. I'm currently using the relatively stock 7.15.1(1.7561) drivers.
I have an Acer Aspire 5520 laptop with 320gb hd space .. 8600m gs video card ... 4gb ram... Vista 32-bit oem.. etc.
The problem is that I've just accidentaly deleted my whole OS. I booted with my Vista 64-bit disc so I could format one of my drives, but I stupidly formatted the wrong one. (the one with my OS)
So now I just installed Vista 64-bit on it, so I could at least do something with my laptop (watch dvds etc.), but I can't get the internet to work anymore because of all the important stuff that got deleted.
What I was using was some public WLAN.
Now it complains that a network adapter doesn't exist.. or something like that. I don't even know what that is.
Is there any way I can fix this myself? I just need to get my internet to work again.
I bought an Acer Aspire 5520 few years ago. It has a partition with Windows Vista installed on that. Unfortunately that partition is deleted completely so I can not recover my laptop to its factory setting.
Is there anyway that I can install that original windows Vista again? I looked behind my laptop and there is a label with a product key. Is that useful?
I'm planning to kick my Aspire 5024 laptop back to the factory settings, but wanted to put one uncertainty to rest.
I understand C partition will be restored to out-of-box condition and it no longer contains anything important, all is backed up. However, I have run out of storage space with backing up the D-partition. The partitions are as they were when machine was bought.
Will Acer eRecovery touch the D: (DATA) partition if I instruct it to restore the factory setup? I have found multiple references saying both yes and no. Part of it is due to ambiguous language ("all files will be wiped" "the HDD will be in the condition you bought it" vs. assurances that D: is safe)
I have just reinstalled windows XP on a acer travelmate 4280 notebook and loaded all the drivers but still have 3 data interface devices still in the device manager and can't find any drivers for them.
I erased all my data from my computer (Aspire V5-561p-6823) I want to download the Dolby Digital Plus Home Theater 18.104.22.168 in my computer .. but I don't know where I can do it ! I've tryed everything and I still haven't found it.
I just migrated from W7 to OS X and love it so far but was wondering if there was a way to have the folders show thumbnails instead of just the plain blue folder. Maybe I'm just spoiled because later versions of Windows had that. [url]
how to organize files in folders by date modified by when i modified it. I know that you can right click and use "arrange by date modified" but that sometimes arranges the files when they were modified online and not by me. I know on windows when i use Arrange by last modified it arranges it according to the date when i last downloaded it or opened it, not by when it was modified online. I would like to be arrange by date last opened or used by me.
