I also have a HP DV800 and i want to upgrade the memory.Currently it has 512 mb, but i'm not pretty sure what is the maximum that i can upgrade.
Is it 1GB or 2GB?
I ask this because one time somebody told me that there are 2 versions (or something like that) of this laptop. One has DDR and other one DDR2. I'm not really familiar with those terms. Can somebody explain to me which one can i do?
I was checking on EBAY, to buy them but i'm not pretty sure:

The laptop is supposed to have a 64 Bit CPU. I tried to free upgrade from Win 8.0 to Win 8.1 but I get the message that I cannot upgrade because my CPU is not capable of the upgrade because of something missing from the CPU like NX or SSE.
HP, somehow forgot to inform the owners or the customer base of this defect. Hoping to not have any problem, I have lost my previous OS, Win XP Pro. There is not even a driver for Audio for Win 8.0.
I have a m7750n HP Pavilion PC, it comes with 2 gigs of memory. I just purchased a GeForce 9800 gtx+ graphics card and installed it, it uses 1 gig of memory.
When I play games my psychical memory shoots up to almost 100% and have a very low fps. I was wondering if there is a way to improve this. Is my system eligible to get another gig?
I replaced the mobo in a dv8000 I picked up on the cheap. Put it all back together, loaded vista on it, and I am getting no sound at all from the speakers. If I plug headphones into the side of it, I can hear sound fine, but speakers are not working at all. I have replaced the speakers with a known good set, and still the same thing, nothing from the speakers at all. I have also replaced the audio / usb board, with the same result.
is it possible to buy a new video module for a HP DV8000 17" laptop? Mine took a dump on my, cant get into windows at all, and when its posting there's red lines all over. I can get into safe mode, but thats cause its just a normal VGA driver, but theres still lines all over the screen. Its been a great laptop, and I would hate to not be able to fix her.
I wanted to upgrade the laptop memory which originally had one 1GB module in the primary slot, and nothing in the secondary.
I purhased 2GB of DDR memory and installed according to the user manual with no problems. At the time I was running XP Pro, and have now updated to Windows 7. Everything still works very well.
Only problem is, neither XP Pro nor Windows 7 seem to report that I have 2GB of memory installed? only 1GB? was there something I had to change that wasn't mentioned in the manual, like a BIOS etting or something? I thought both Windows versions would automatically detect the upgrade
Sorry if I'm being dumb here, never done this to a laptop before! If you know the answer could you also tell me how please, it would be very much appreciated..thank you
i have a DV8000 that can hold 2 drives and i'm trying to put in a slave drive but the system will not recognize it (won't show up in my computer). I run Acronis to set up the new drive and it reads it and formats it and everything but it still won't show up in my computer. do i need to put some jumpers on the pins or something because there isn't any info on the drive itself on how to do this but there are 4 pins next to the Serial hookups.
On my DV8000 I cannot get the Intel Wireless to connect to my router at home, which confuses me because my wife can connect to it just fine, except she's using a broadcom chip. My router at work is the exact same model and setup as the one I have at home and I have no problems connection to it.
I have a DV8000 - DV8333CL and screen has started to flicker. By messing with the screen i can get it to become clear then it starts to flicker again after a few minutes.
I have heard it could be as simple as a loose cable, does anyone know where and how to get to the cable?
I just purchased a used Elitebook 8540w with i7 quad core and four memory slots (I love it!).  It is running 64 bit Windows 7 Professional  It came with one 4gb memory module and I purchased an additional 4gb module to bring total RAM to 8gb.   I have the HP document that shows for two 4gb memory modules, one should be in memory slot 1 and the other in memory slot 3 for correct functioning of dual channel memory.  All set right?  Not quite.  In the Elitebook 8540w, the primary memory slots under the keyboard are clearly labeled "1" and "2"  However, the expansion memory slots on the underside of the chassis are also clearly labeled "1" and "2"  Opps!  There is no "3" and there is no "4"  In which of the unfilled three slots do I install the second 4gb module for correct functioning of dual channel memory?
I have a 2.5 year old E1705 notebook. I'm going to upgrade to W7 soon and in the process I thought I'd upgrade my memory from 2GB to 4GB.
I ran Dell's utility from their tech support page and it seems to be the case that the maximum my computer will support is 2GB! Is that possible?
In any case, I ran a diagnostic program (from Dell's utility) and it says my computer has two memory slots, and currently each slot on my computer has "Dual In-line Memory Module 1GB, 533, 128X64, 8K, 200", whatever that means.
I assume the 533 is memory speed (Hz) value. So according to Dell's utility, I am unable to increase the amount of RAM, but I could, for instance, "upgrade" to better chips (i.e., Dell sells DDR2 SDRAM Memory Speed: 800 MHz). Price would be $56.
I'm looking at purchasing an FW with only 2g of RAM and upgrading it myself cheaper than I can do buying it from Sony. The RAM from Sony is DDR2-800 PC2-6400. where to buy a couple 4g modules (2x4, 8g total)?
i currently have a TM 5720 with 2GB of ram. I was thinking of upgrading it to 3GB. I was wondering if you think it will make much of a difference and whether any of these would be suitable (already done a small bit of research)
i cant post any links but had seen a few on play.com
2gb pc 5300 200 pin
would it matter that there would be 2 different types of RAM in the laptop.
I found out from the release notes for BIOS 3.60 that one of the changes is to "update kernel code for 4GB memory support". Does it mean that if I update my BIOS from v 3.33(dated 9/1/07) to v 3.60 I will be able to increase my current maximum memory of 2GB to 4GB in Acer Aspire5610z.
I got a Vaio Z620D, it's a Canadian Model. It's got only 2GB of ram, so I am looking to add 2 more. I was told that it should match the frequency or something like that, I am not too sure about the whole deal.

Here is the detailed specs for this laptop, just scroll down for the RAM info.
I recently got a Macbook Aluminum (the 2.0 Ghz), and i'm really impressed with it. Well, i haven't really explore everything (first time using a Mac, so please be gentle, ).
One thing's for sure is that i absolutely love the trackpad. The swipe thingy is incredible.
Anyway, any advice on applications that I should be using? I mean, other than the ones stated here (a superb guide by Sam if i might add)
I plan to install Windows to do some programming (job requirements, visual studio 2008 bla bla bla). Should I upgrade my memory to 2 x 2gb? Currently considering between boot camp and vmware...
I'm planing to upgrade Ram Memory of my DELL XPS 15z for running some virtual environments. My question it's about the max amount of memory that the laptop support and the compatible memory modules. In some forums I read about 16Gb, but Dell PcCheckup shows 8Gb as the max amount of memory.
I have a Dell Inspiron 9300, about 4 years old. I bought it with 1 gb RAM, and I'd like to extend the life of it by a few months, and make it a little faster.
This is the RAM that dell recommends for my laptop to upgrade:
I've just completed a CPU upgrade on my 5315 (to a T7300, which took 15 minutes!). I'm now thinking of upgrading the memory from my current 2GB @ 667 MHz (with the new CPU the memory runs at 667 MHz rather than 533 MHz with the old CPU) to 2GB @ 800 MHz.
However, I've read that the performance increase between 667 MHz and 800 MHz is very little, thus, it's not worth spending the money, even if it is only $AUD40.
Can anyone provide any input, benchmarks or experiences?
I have a 5810TZ that I have upgraded to Win 7 64-bit. I have tried to upgrade to 8GB ram and Windows hangs. CMOS reads it as 8GB, but I cannot get Windows 7 to boot.
I have installed two 10600 DDR3 chips. If I remove one chip, it boots normally. It doesn't matter which slot I use or which chip I use. But when I put both chips in, Win 7 hangs.
Considering an Aspire One right now because it is less expensive than the others. I have a 512MB RAM (DDR2-PC5300) and 80GB 2.5" SATA HDD from my Thinkpad (which I upgraded both). So, I think maybe I could buy the Aspire One the cheapest version (8GB I guess).
So, is it can be done? I know that there is SATA version of the Aspire One but not sure the connector will be there in the SSD version. Try to google it but found only SSD upgrade....
I am about to buy my first Mac. I have decided on the Aluminum 2.0ghz MacBook, 2GB, and 250GB HDD.
I have 2 questions:
1) Is there any need to upgrade the memory to 4GB? I have heard the OS works fine with the lower memory (as compared to most PCs). I dont really game on my computer, but do watch TV online some.
2) I start school in August, I have the money for the purchase, and would prefer to get it now......but is there any reason for me to wait until August? Just wondering if an insider has any idea of upcoming deals or upgrades expected in the near future.
I am planning to upgrade the RAM in my wife's 13" MBP (mid-2009). Currently it has 2GB. When I upgraded the HDD to 500GB, I didn't pay attention, but I vaguely remember seeing only one 2GB stick in there. Is that the case? If so, is it advised to buy a "matching" 2 GB stick or 2x2GB new ones?
Secondly, I have some Officemax gift cards to use before the end of this month, and I realized that they carry Crucial memory. Crucial website states the compatible memory for the mid-2009 13" MBP as "DDR3 PC3-8500 • CL=7 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1066 • 204-pin SODIMM".
