View 2 RepliesThis is the second time I have had this issue. I have already had the motherboard and power supply/cable replaced and it worked for awhile. Here is the issue.
- Occasionally after powering down, the next time I try to power up, the laptop does nothing but show the power light on. No Dell screen, no back lights on the keyboard, nothing else. I press and hold the power button down and after 5 seconds it shuts the light off. I would then try it again with the same result. I let the battery completely drain; plug the power cord back in and after about 5 minutes of charging, try it again. This seemed to work until one day it did not. Then I had the motherboard and power supply replaced and all seemed well. Now, 6-8 weeks later I have the same problem again. A new L421X purchased in December 2012 with 512GB SSD running Windows 8 64 bit. I use this for business and am about to throw it out the window.
Currently, I have tried the power up, drain power trick with no results. It is dead with all my business info on the drive. I am about to dump Dell and switch to HP.
Anything I can do short of a whole new machine?
Our Studio 1749 will retain a solid connection when the power adapter is plugged into the power board along the side of my laptop. I am unsure if the pins residing in the power board are pushed toward each other so as to not retain connection when the adpater in plugged into the laptop.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi recently reinstalled windows on my Dell XPS M1730 but i have some problems. For some reason the lights on the lid of the case (the ones on top lol) dont come on anymore.
To get them on i have to open dell quickset and turn them off and then on again, then they will stay on, but after shutting down and booting back up they are still off. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Also another issue im having is that when i turn on the laptop my left speaker light is orange. I changed it in quickset to be blue but still during booting its orange and then once the laptop is fully booted it turns to blue. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
My old latitude had keyboard backlights, which I loved, but I can not seem to find out if my new Laditude has them and, if so, how I activate them.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a studio 14z that has been sitting for approximately 5 - 6 months without being connected to a power adapter or turned on. Needless to say, when I tried to power it up via the battery, there was nothing there. Pushing the button on the bottom of the battery does not cause any lights to flash.
This doesn't surprise me, but even if I plug it into it's AC adapter and take the battery out, it will not power on. Nothing happens. No lights (except on the power adapter) no fans spinning, nothing. If I have the battery in place, the light that is supposed to indicate that the battery is charging does not turn on. Basically it is "dead". It worked fine before sitting dormant.
Is it a lost cause? I just had it apart to check cabling, etc. and can't see anything obvious. Is there anyway to wake it up? I know the power adapter works as it powered another laptop just fine.
My daughter's 1749 laptop shut itself off and now when you plugin the power adapter, the light over the plug on the laptop blinks three times. It will not power on at all.
I have replaced the power jack in the laptop as well as the cpu and tried different known-good ram but nothing makes any difference. What does the light over the power jack blinking three times indicate?
I've have had a Lenovo g500s running windows 8.1 for almost a year and never had an major issue. But recently I have found that it will not turn on. I have found that by taking out and putting the battery back in will rarely result in the battery light blinking in red. If i try to turn it on at this point it will turn for a few second "prepare for automatic repairs" and then in a few seconds turn back off its original turned off state. I have tried "Flee-Power" while calling technical support and it made a small noise and then issued a burning smell. It's 1 year warranty is still valid.
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy studio 1557 recently had a motherboard failure of some type. When I would plug in the power cord, the blue light on the cord would go off. I noticed this after I was reading online and the laptop suddenly, without warning shut down and would not turn back on.
A Google search suggest that this came from a motherboard failure. I replaced the motherboard.
Now, when I plug in the power cord, the blue light stays on and it is charging the battery. The small white light above the power cord plug-in stays white while the battery is charging. But, when pressing the power button, nothing happens. The white charging indicator and the blue light on the power cord stay illuminated, but the laptop will do nothing else. No beeps, no lights, no sounds.
I assume the power button has failed. Am I assuming correctly, or is there anything else I need to check?
The laptop wouldn't boot. I took the keyboard out to see if I could swab-dry any water, but couldn't really find any in there.
I lightly sprayed around with compressed air and left the laptop open with the keyboard out to try and let it dry out for a few hours, but no dice...still wouldn't boot.
I thought maybe via cell phone logic, it might work again after 24 hours or so. It's been almost three days now and it still won't boot, so I'm pretty sure I fried something. Here's the error code it's giving me .....
I tried turning it on today and at first it wouldn't turn on at all. I switched power outlets and when I pressed the power button, it turned on but the three green lights (power, HDD and battery) started blinking for a few seconds before the system shuts off.
I can't really find if this is some kind of error code or whatnot. I've tried reseating everything except the CPU... I've done the memory, DVD-ROM, HDD, Keyboard, Graphics card... I just don't know what it could be and I have no idea who I could even take the machine to.
For about a month or so my Vostro V130 has not been turning on. Upon pushing the power button, the power button itself lights up for a second at most and then cuts right off. During this time, the screen remains black and nothing else occurs. I've tried turning it on while plugged in and charging and tried turning it on after being charged an hour or so. Everything yields the same results.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire V3-772g, a relatively new laptop (8 months old), which randomly decided to stop booting.
Windows 8.1Core i7 2.2ghznVidia GTX 760m8gig's of ram (2x4gb)7200 RPM SATA
Was playing a game just fine. Shut down as normal, went to work, came home 8 hours later, attempted to boot - nothing.
Exact problem: Hit power button, power button comes on. Light next to the lightbulb (power light?) Comes on, stays solid. Charging stays solid orange/blue.
HDD light? Flickers. Screen flickers a dark grey color that may be the very initial part of a startup. No acer logo. The screen and HDD light flicker in synchronisation, at the same exact time. You can hear the fans fire up, and the HDD spin up. Screen just flickers about once per second (it's very faint.)
--Heres what I've tried---
-Removing power cord/battery, holding button for 60 seconds 3 times, plugging back in and powering up.
- Almost every varation of that, I have attempted.
-Inserting a new harddrive. Same result.
-Plugging in an external monitor. (Tried VGA and HDMI)
- Power does not transfer to external monitors. Screen still flickers on laptop, no change in behavior.
-Removed 1 stick of RAM - No **BUT** behavior changes slightly. Flickering of screen and HD light reduced to about once every 45 seconds rather than once every second.
-Removed both sticks of RAM - no flickering, no HDD light flickering. Pure black screen.
-Rotated the sticks of RAM - No change.
Also interestingly, with everything normal, if I hold Fn+Esc, the computer will do a new startup process (Screen still black), then after about 20 seconds goes into the normal screen flickering/HDD indicator flickering. Different behavior, slightly.
Having problem with fan. Fan comes on momentarily and quits at start up.
Doing diagnostic using Fn and power on the result displays err msg of 2000-8010.
I have been asked to attempt to recover a friends Studio 11737 Laptop. When you plug in the AC Power you get a white power light and then about 30 seconds late you get a amber blink 4 times and then a whiter light. The system will not power up to run any Diagnostics. What these indicators mean?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been trying to set-up a second hand T520 bought without the original hard drive. I've installed a Samsung mSATA SSD. I tried to use a set of recovery discs produced on my T510 which seemed to install but got BSOD whenever Win 7 tried to boot. I then downloaded the Win 7 ISO and booted from the DVD to try and initialise a repair which would not initialise. I next tried installing Win 7 Pro from the Win7 ISO disc which succeeded but ran into problems with unrecognised network components and drivers.
I've gone through this whole cycle again and got to the set-up screen for Win 7 then got distracted; my thinkpad then appeared to have gone into hibernation before I could finish set-up. Unfortunately, when I try to power up I get a few flashing lights for a few seconds; no POST bleep and the power dies. I've tried pulling and reinstalling the RAM and SSD but to no avail.
Laptop: Hp ProBook 4510s
When I turn my laptop on, the blue light on the power on button lights for 6 seconds, meanwhile the led near the power plug on right side rapidly blinks 13 times. Always exactly 13 times, so it must be some kind of error code. Then laptop shuts down. Nothing is heard, neither fan, neither hard disk.
Using my Ideapad Y410p this morning (six months old), the computer abruptly crashed and shutdown with no warning of any sort. Straight to black screen and lights went out. I thought perhaps it overheated and shutdown as some sort of safety measure, as my old Dell used to do that. The laptop was warm, but I've seen it get hotter and still perform.
Now I can't get power back. Pressing the on/off button doesn't get me any sort of noise or lights. Tried unplugging the battery and AC power for a while, and still not working. Held down power button several times seeing if it would reset something. Opened it up the cover and took a look but didn't see anything wrong. Popped the RAM cards in and out. It's just dead in the water.
My laptop was working fine yesterday. This morning when I turned it on nothing happened. The back light on the power button doesn't even come on.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently downloaded an AMD driver update. It removed the switchable graphics option and I have spent hours searching the internet on how to get it back. I can't find any drivers or anything to get it back. Also after I did this Sony Vegas won't open. I have a HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC, Windows 7 64-bit. Is there any drivers or anything I can download to get switchable graphics back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter replacing the fan, I have a power up issue with the laptop. Basically, the laptop will only power on with the power cable disconnected at the motherboard. It was by mistake that after the fan was replaced and everything was put back together, that I noticed that the battery was not charging.
I then reopened the machine and reconnected the power cable to the motherboard and nothing - no power.
When plugging in the power source with the battery in place, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE then stays ORANGE and will not power up. No other lights, no fan noise, nothing.
If I remove the battery, the LED adjacent to the power socket lights up WHITE and stays white however will not power up either. Same agin, no other LEDs, not fan noise, nothing.
I have now opened the machine back up and disconnected the power from the motherboard. Put it all back together and the laptop powers up as normal with the battery and it works fine. (Well until the battery runs out anyway).
The monitor will not come back on after sleep mode. The only way I can get it to come back on is to turn it off and then back on it has all updates.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI just got back my laptop after being reimaged Windows.
There are above the keyboard the volume and wi-fi tabs, wi-fi is working okay, if i want to turn it off it changes the colour to red. However the same not applies to the volume (it is always white), and also before the reimage whenever i put volume there was small box appearing on the screen showing how i changed the volume... Now it is still working, but i want that small box back what appeared before. How can i do that?
I installed HP MediaSmart whole package - and restarted the laptop after it, but still no success... I have a 64bit installation of Windows 7.
My keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the Pavilion g7-2235dx with Windows 8.1 operating system. Nearly every automatic update messes up my ability to get on the internet. The only way I can connect is to uninstall all of the updates. The icons on my desktop also stopped working. When I click on them, it goes right back to desktop. Can't pin them to the taskbar either. The ones on the taskbar won't open by clicking on them either. Have to right click and tell it to open. Also problem getting my Norton anti-virus to open. Says it working but can't open it.
