View 1 RepliesThis is the second time I have had this issue. I have already had the motherboard and power supply/cable replaced and it worked for awhile. Here is the issue.
- Occasionally after powering down, the next time I try to power up, the laptop does nothing but show the power light on. No Dell screen, no back lights on the keyboard, nothing else. I press and hold the power button down and after 5 seconds it shuts the light off. Â I would then try it again with the same result. I let the battery completely drain; plug the power cord back in and after about 5 minutes of charging, try it again. This seemed to work until one day it did not. Then I had the motherboard and power supply replaced and all seemed well. Â Now, 6-8 weeks later I have the same problem again. Â A new L421X purchased in December 2012 with 512GB SSD running Windows 8 64 bit. I use this for business and am about to throw it out the window. Â
Currently, I have tried the power up, drain power trick with no results. It is dead with all my business info on the drive. Â I am about to dump Dell and switch to HP. Â
Anything I can do short of a whole new machine?
back lite keyboard doesn't work ....it was working properly  2 days before...
View 1 Replies View Relatedi recently reinstalled windows on my Dell XPS M1730 but i have some problems. For some reason the lights on the lid of the case (the ones on top lol) dont come on anymore.
To get them on i have to open dell quickset and turn them off and then on again, then they will stay on, but after shutting down and booting back up they are still off. Anyone know what the problem could be?
Also another issue im having is that when i turn on the laptop my left speaker light is orange. I changed it in quickset to be blue but still during booting its orange and then once the laptop is fully booted it turns to blue. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
My keyboard has stopped wanting to type any key back to back without a pause (whether it's a letter or delete or backspace). So if I'm typing a word with two letters that are consecutive, I have to pause or forget and backspace (which I can only do once also without a pause). It's also started this slight click/beep that happens usually in conjunction with the error although sometimes not. And, the click/beep isn't consistent (or at least I haven't found it's rhythm yet).

View 2 Replies View RelatedI feel like the keyboard on my SXPS13 was MUCH brighter than the keyboard on my SXPS16.
I also had an icon pop up on the RHS of the screen that told me the keyboard light level (it would pop up when changing intensity 'off', '1', and '2').
I don't have an icon pop up on the 16, and the keyboard looks much dimmer overall.
I have had my Dell studio xps 1640 for around 2 years now, apart from the common overheating problems has been working fine.
Last night i powered down as usual after watching some live stream football, this morning went to start up again and the keyboard lights up & can hear the fan running but getting completely blank, black screen. It seems windows isn't loading up either as if i push the power button again it shuts down instantly.
I have always kept the inside clean and free of dust and really need to know what may need repairing. Could it be a Graphic or video card or Motherboard problem.
I have also tried the usual checks of memory but have not tried to get display via vgi or hdmi in to another monitor.
I can turn off the red lights with the F9 key, but they don't stay off: the lights turn back on as I continue to work.
Â
Is there a way to PERMANENTLY turn off the red lights? I love the laptop but HATE the red lights.
Where can I find the settings for the keyboard backlighting? I would not like it to dim at all and would like the ability to adjust its brightness. Where is this possible
View 3 Replies View RelatedI was going to buy a XPS, but I really have to have a back lit keyboard so I am most likely going to buy a Studio 15.
How bright is the keyboard back lighting? Is it as bright as the Macbook Pros?
I've been using my E6400 for a few weeks and I really like the backlit keyboard. Using the Dell Control Point interface, I have the backlighting adjusted to about 2/3 brightness (using the slider in Control Point).
I also have it set to remain lit for one minute with no activity.
Last night, the keyboard suddenly became much dimmer than usual. I double-checked in Control Point that the it hadn't somehow been dimmed and it hadn't.
I even maxed out the slider to the Brightest setting and it had no effect. I also tried using the 'Fn' and 'Right Arrow' keys to adjust it, no change.
It has a windows vista installed and there is a sticker of windows vista below the keyboard.
But there should be a sticker too at the abck of products key, thats what everybody told me..but there isnt any on mines
Plus It came with a Windows XP CD. not windows Vista Cd.......
I will walk away from my laptop dell E7240 for 5 minutes and it will go back to log in page. How do I change that setting. Also after a time it seems to go to sleep and knocks me off VPN connection during a web presentation if I do not interact with mouse during web conf. I have to use ctl alt del to log back in but then my VPN is gone. How do I extend the time the laptop stays active?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI finally replaced the keyboard on my Latitude D800 - the spacebar stopped functioning. The new keyboard works fine, but I think I screwed up putting stuff back together.
The back plastic part that needed to come off (the thing with the power buttons, mute, and lights, etc.)
has a small bump in front of the four indicator lights around where the right screw is for the keyboard. I can't press it down more, thoug
I have a Dell Latitude D600 which i bought a few months ago second hand, It came with charger and thats it. No recovery disk or nothing. Laptop worked perfect and is a really good laptop. However I have so many viruses on my laptop, I have ran all types of AVG's, adware scanners, and much more. Its cleared alot of the viruses but still the laptop is not working properly.
I would like to restore the laptop back to its factory settings, i have backed up all my data on an external harddrive so its all good. I checked on google and it says something about Pressing F11 + Ctrl or something like that and it has a recovery procedure in the laptop allready. I dont think D600 has that feature and guessing i need a recovery disk. I have looked on ebay and cant find any, Im not even sure what type of recovery disk to get because i found a few, prices were ranging from £30-35 and i cant afford that as i am a student.
Is there a way where i can download some sort of recovery software for dell and burn it onto a disk or something, I looked on google but there is no detailed sources telling me about this,
how i can restore my dell latitude D600 back to its brand new settings without having to buy the recovery disk.
Hitting Fn and the Keyboard back light button will Cycle the settings, Off, Dim, Bright.
But they use to turn off after about a minute of no use. Now they will stay on indefinitely. I wonder what could be causing this since I have not done anything to the system.
When I set the Power options to have the Screen turn off after a Minute the screen dims and turns off, But the Keyboard remains Lit.
There is a major issue here with Dell's Touchpad drivers, they simply do not work. Anytime I try to use the Touchpad the mouse goes flying all over the place and is completely useless. Whenever the screen is folded back into tablet mode--they keyboard will not lock.
Have been on phone with Dell for hours on this with no resolve. There are a lot of people complaining about the same thing, Dell doesn't see to understand this.
I received my Dell E6400 yesterday and need to take screenshots because I am writing training manuals.
My problem is that with my Dell D260 I could press keys on my keyboard ALT PrntScrn and capture the active screen.
With the E6400 there is only one option to capture screens and that is the Fn key with the F11 which is the PrntScreen button
Anyone know if there is a way to set the e6400 backlit keyboard to always be on?
I currently have it set to the 5 minute timeout within the DCP software which is good enough, just curious if there is way to always keep it on.
My friend is very cheap and will not get a new computer. He has a dell lat. D520. I wiped everything and installed all the drivers from the dell website for the laptop.
Everything works great until you have to type or move the trackpad. It tends to jump around or insert other letters then the one chosen. But a usb external keyboard works fine!
I called dell and said that he doesnt have any warranty and said maybe the buttons were stuck? Should he order a new keyboard for 50 bucks?
Latitude 6430u: Is there a setting to keep the backlit keyboard ON?
 Mine times out @ 10sec.
I couldn't remove the keyboard so I turned it upside down and put aside. So from my search in Google I found that I must leave it like that about few days untill everything is completely dry.
I also panicked a bit and it took me about a minute to remove the charger and about few minutes to remove the battery.
My questions are:
1.The laptop turned off - does it mean that it was short circuit or it could be some defence mechanism .....
My keyboard has intermittently been working for some time. When it works, then everything works as it should, when it does not work, the keyboard is still lit up and the mouse joystick still works, but no keys work. To get the keyboard to work again I have to reboot and shutdown many times and eventually it will work again. It only stops working after shutting down or rebooting. To me it appears to be an issue with detecting at boot up. It seems it could be either an issue with the motherboard, or the keyboard so was or to get some opinions on how to narrow it down to one or the other. I should also add, that when it does not work, you can not access the bios, or anything prior to the operating system loading, so I am 100% sure its not an OS issue. I also dual boot this laptop and the keyboard does not work in either. I can plug in a usb and that works fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedOriginal Win 8 Pro, then updated to 8.1 Pro, the back lit keyboard works OK. However since I refreshed the system due to the hangs up problem at start up, the back lit key board stops working. Re-updated the OS back to 8.1 Pro again still not solve the issue.Does the backlit key board need special driver ? The device manager shows the keyboard as standard PS2
View 7 Replies View RelatedThe ribbon cable on my D820 keyboard was snagged and ripped today and now I can't power on the laptop.
Is there anyway to short a jumper to turn the laptop on or some other way to turn it on??
I tried upgrading my Latitude's RAM using a 2MB chip first in the rear slot, and Win 7 didn't read any additional RAM (showing only 1GB). So I moved the 2MB chip to the MB under the keyboard and now it won't reboot. I tried to put the original RAM chips back in their respective slots (each 1MB RAM) but it still won't boot.Â
I guess I can't update the BIOS if it won't boot.
My keyboardd generates double letters (I'm leaving them in as I type to show what II mean). I've searched this forum for similar probleems and have already done the following:
Updated BIOS
Installed/uupdated toouchpad ddriver and input ddriver
Installed touchfreeeze
Unchecked the keyboard driver in device manager andd restarted the computer
None of those steps has solved the problem.
I've had my laptop since 2011. Whenever I would press the number 7 key it would repeat endlessly. Also, now when I press a key in the row beneath the numbers row, the 7 repeats itself all across my screen. What could be the problem. Is there a way for me to adjust this problem?
