Jan 18, 2010what the performance difference is between the Intel Core i7-620M and the . Intel Core i7-820QM. I always thought the quad core 820QM was faster, but on the hp website the dual core 620M is more expensive.
Is the 620M faster? And is it faster for specific things only?

Aug 13, 2009I'm in the process of creating an XP Pro operating system install for my new Inspiron 1545, on a new SATA hard drive (taking out the original SATA hard drive from Dell with Vista preinstalled to use as separate bootup opsys which I have to reinstall to zap all the bloatware later).
Things were going really really well (I thought) with setting up my new drive with XP and I got past the problem that bites most folks (SATA hard drive not being recognized by XP install), by switching the drive in BIOS to ATA mode b4 doing the install.
I got XP completely installed & activated AOK, with only a few minor wrinkles which I was able to figure out. Applied a few simple quick tweaks to XP to make it easier for me to use (disabling autoplay, killing the search dog, setting folder views, removing stuff I don't use like Windows messenger, MSN, etc).
Then I went to install all of the necessary Dell drivers from the website for the 1545 for (in order) Intel GM45 Chipset, Video, Ethernet, Dell Quickset, Wireless, Sound, Card reader, and Alps touchpad.
I had figured that stuff out already and had all the drivers copied over to the new PC ready to go .....

Jul 7, 2009I have just received an Acer 5935 and I have already formatted and reinstalled Vista 32 Ultimate SP2.
The laptop has two video cards: a nVidia GT130 1GB and an Intel GM4500.
I downloaded the latest nVidia WHQL notebook driver (186.03) for my graphic card but i can't install it.
The installation stops and I have the following message: "hardware not recognised".
I am obliged to use the older Acer driver and you know they never update it to the latest and most performant release.
Anyway, it's not because of the two graphic cards...
I have had the same problem with a Dell Studio 1555 which has an ATi HD4570 512MB.
I tried the latest modded Catalyst (6.6) and I was obliged to install Dell's driver... but I could install the same driver on another laptop (Dell Studio 1535) with a HD3450.

Mar 2, 2009I want to upgrade my old laptop to something nice, and am torn between to systems.
An HDX 16 with:
2.40 Ghz dual core duo ( P8600 chip )
6 gigs of ram
OR...
An HXD 18 with
2.0 Ghz QUAD core ( QX9000 chip )
4 gigs of ram
both systems have the same video card ( Nvidia with 512megs of ram ) 500 gig hard drive.
What would be the faster machine for doing video ? and what would be the overall faster machine ?
I realize that not all applications will take advantage of a quad-core chip like the QX900, so this is why I"m asking. if the dual-core P8600 chip @ 2.40 Ghz in the HP HDX 16 with that 6 gigs of ram will actually be faster overall than the quad core would be, and perhaps even be faster at rendering video ?

Oct 27, 2013I got a T430s with the nvidia nvs 5400m and when i try to update drivers etc via the lenovo system update I got a message that I should update the Intel rapid storage driver to 11.2.0.1006, and that isn't even the latest version, but anyway I mark the update and let it install and then reboot. But when I search for updates I have to update the same driver to the same version I just installed. I have tried to remove the driver via device manager, but without results.

This setup worked OK for many months.
Today, this happened:
Wake from hibernation.
Browse homepage (internet)
Monitor blanks, mouse freezes
Laptop display blanks.
I turn off computer.
Here is status NOW:
I can boot in safe mode. I have cleaned old video driver.
Boot in regular mode. OK. (with video driver uninstalled)
Install ANY video driver (win XP, media center)- the display freezes, and blanks after the windows loading screen. I do not get to the log in page.
There are also strange lines all over the screen (during boot)
I need this computer for work, so I must fix asap. I would like to know if I should purchase a new video card.

Nov 26, 2014My new Probook 450 G1 (core-i5) Fingerprint reader is not working in win7-64bit. The problem is that there is a "Validity..." software on the laptop's drivers DVD and it says the fingerprint reader is not available or configured properly but when I remove the original hp fingerprint reader driver and let windows to find a driver for it, the "Validity..." software works but it hangs on the "fingerprint enrolling" step.
Both drivers (hp's and win7's) seems fine in the "device manager" but non of them seems to be working with the "Validity..." software, Do I have to use the "simple pass" software instead of the "Validity..." software?

1308tx has ntel® Core™2 Duo T6600 2.20 GHz, 2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB
and the difference in their prices, here in India is Rs. 5000 i.e roughly $100.
I have never used an AMD powered PC. Are their any software or hardware compatibility issues with AMDs? Any reason why I should go with the Intel box?

Oct 30, 2009how to overclock the P8600 processor but had no good luck, I know I can't overlclock through the BIOS, but I've heard of using programs such as SETFSB, but I don't know how exactly how I can use this program for my processor specifically.
