why the Windows 8 camera app show the camera with a slash across it instead of an image?
I also tried the manycam app and same behavior is noticed. Is the camera bad? I checked the driver version it is the latest that is on the Lenovo Site for Windows 8.
My T430s camera(Windows8) is not working now. The LED light is on when I start the camera, but no imamges show up. I checked the driver, and it's already the latest version. The camera was working at the begining when I got my laptop, but I don't know what happened to it.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:
1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;
2) reinstall the camera driver;
3) deleted the ricoh media driver;
4) updated the BIOS;
5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;
6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.
I have a brand new T530 running Windows 8 and the integrated camera will not work straight from the factory. I'd like to think this would have been tested from the factory; what should I be looking for?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a T430s computer model 2352CTO, running Windows 8.1, 64-bit version. Prior to upgrade from Windows 8.0 all drivers were updated. The USB 3 ports worked correctly, in particular running an external 1gb hard drive. After update to 8.1, the USB 3 ports still work, but only for about 30 seconds then the hard drive shuts down. The power light is still lit on the hard drive, but it no longer shows in windows explorer.
In device manager, I went to Universal Serial Bus Controllers -> USB Root Hub ->Properties->(under General it says "This device is working properly)->Power Management->Unchecked the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". Unfortunately this does not seem to stop problem.
I bought my ThinkPad T530 laptop in August of this year and about a month ago I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage updater and it updated the driver for my web cam. Ever since then it has stopped working.
Whenever I open the web conferencing menu, it only shows options for the microphone, and nothing for the camera. I have tried hitting Fn+F6 and accessing it via other software e.g. Skype, Oovoo, Picasa. And they say that my webcam cannot be detected.
When I checked for the webcam in device manager it said it was installed and working properly, and that the driver was up to date. I went to the lenovo website and downloaded the driver for the camera from there (g1ca16ww) and tried to update the driver manually hoping that that would fix the problem. Alas, it did not. I also checked the BIOS settings to make sure that the camera was enabled. It was.
So then I tried to reinstall the driver by uninstalling it, and using the driver I downloaded from the Lenovo website to reinstall. It installed properly, but now the webcam is no longer listed in the hardware manager and the dropdown for Imaging Devices, where it was located before, is no longer visible. I also rechecked the BIOS menu to make sure the camera was still listed there and it is. I do not know why it isn't working. I have also tried system restore and that didn't work either, the device still isn't listed. I don't want to have to wipe my computer.
I have a T440p with a Windows 7 professional 64 bit. I got the same problem: camera light is on, but I can't see any preview but only a crossed camera on a grey background.
Since my operating system is Windows 7, I don't have a "setting app" in my laptop.
All my drivers are up to date, my mouse has new batteries, and I tried this fix:

Now my Bluetooth mouse only works after I reboot the computer, but then disconnects after a while, and I can't even add it again to my Bluetooth devices.
When the keyboard on my T430s is in use, the touchpad is disabled. This prevents any gaming.
The driver for the touchpad is UltraNav Pointing Device version 16.2.19.14 (the newest available I believe). How to get the touchpad working so I can play some games?
I have tried to modify the touchpad settings from the Control Panel but I cannot find a relevent option.
I have new T430s with Windows 8 on it (preinstalled by Lenovo). Everything is fine except they cut a huge chunk of my expensive SSD hard drive for so called "recovery partition". So now I have 2 tasks to accomplish:
1. Create recovery media on DVDs;
2. Remove that recovery partition from my HD and attach the space to main partition.
On Windows 7 I would use "Rescue and Recovery 4.5" tool from Lenovo to do that. But it looks like the tool is not available for Windows 8. When (if) it will be available? Or any other way to accomplish the above tasks?
The built-in camera on my T-530 is not working. I made a thread about it on Microsoft's support site, but I haven't been able to resolve the issue. [URL] ....
When I try to capture video with a program, All I get is this symbol:
It does this with every program I've tried including Camera, Windows Movie Maker, and Skype. The programs can still record videos and save them, but the only thing that appears in them is this symbol.
I've tried changing my permission settings. I can give skype permission to use the built-in camera, but it doesn't work. For whatever reason I don't have to option to give permission to Camera or to Movie Maker.
I've also reinstalled the driver for my camera. Then I ran the Lenovo Solution Center and Lenovo Thinkvantage System Update and updated everything I could.
Based on the advice I got from Microsoft tech support I have run the hardware trouble shooter, installed all the Windows updates I could get, reinstalled the built-in camera driver in compatibility mode and updated my BIOS driver.
After all of that, it still doesn't work.

I ordered a T430s with low specs and Windows 8 and I dropped in an 8GB DIMM and mSATA drive. However, the Lenovo implementation of Windows 8 is maddeningly difficult to create backup media (you can't) and the Lenovo "restore" from the HDD partition won't allow you to restore to another drive. Plus, that kinda defeats my original purpose of a clean install without any bloatware onto a fast, user-installed mSATA or SSD.
I have Windows upgrade media I purchased for my desktop, but that install program says the installation won't work with the Lenovo Product Key specific to my Thinkpad T430s (I'm guessing it's an OEM product key while the install media is an upgrade looking for a previously installed Windows 7?)
I have a T440s and have an issue with the camera. It seems to turn on (little green light comes on) when I access the Windows 8 camera app or any other app (like skype), but I do not see anything out of the camera except for a gray screen with a camera icon that has a bar through it. It looks like the camera needs to be activated somewhere but where to look. I have checked the driver and it seems to be fine (no yellow warning icon), I even unistalled and reinstalled the latest camera driver from the support website but that does not change anything.

View 9 Replies View RelatedWe just bought 15 T430S model N1RLPGE/2356LPG. We install all our notebooks with a running DHCP/PXE environment. A formerly ordered notebook, same type, but an older BIOS (Version 2.02) accurately got itself an IP address during PXE boot and startet the installation. The new T430S (all delivered with BIOS version 2.55) don't even get an IP. I already tried updating the BIOS to the newest version 2.56, but this didn't solve the issue. I checked everything at least twice.
MAC address for IP reservation: correct. Swich (Cisco) portfast is enabled: correct. An older notebook with BIOS 2.02, installing smooth and sound.
When I start the BIOS version 2.56 notebook with a Knoppix DVD, I get the assigned IP address. But not during PXE setup. I also checked the available BIOS and PXE options of the notebook/ethernet card. No options that solved this issue.
I need to do a clean install on a T430s and create an image of it for deploying to other laptops. The rescue CD from Lenovo is a 3 DVD set that installs all the bloatware without an option to install just the OS. How I can get this done?

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy laptop was running Windows 8.1 with SecureBoot enabled just fine. But I just swapped out my boot drive for a bigger SSD and, when I tried to boot from my USB installation media (to do a fresh Windows 8.1 install), nothing would happen (the screen would just flash when I tried to select the USB drive). I realized I had to disable Secure Boot in order to boot from the USB drive and then to enable booting from legacy/non-UEFI devices.
So now I've been able to install Windows 8.1 and it's running without a hitch, but Secure Boot is still in the disabled state. When I enable it, I can't boot from anything. How can I re-enable Secure Boot with my fresh Windows 8.1 install? Or if I have to reinstall, what steps do I need to take this time?
just got a T430s with i7-3520M processor (3.60 GHz, 4MB L3, 1600MHz FSB) and 8G memory. How do I stream to my HDTV with sound? USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter? MiniDisplay to HDMI? Any caveats I should be aware of?
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I pressed Fn-F5 previously, I had the option to enable/disable Wireless Lan, Bluetooth and Wireless Wan. However after running System Update recently, when the latest Access Connections (5.98) and BIOS (2.52) was installed, I have lost Bluetooth and Wireless Wan!
When I press Fn-F5 now, I only have the option of Wireless Lan.
I have checked the BIOS, and Wireless Lan, Bluetooth and Wireless Wan are Enabled. I have tried setting them to Disabled and then Enabled again but the problem remains.
I even did a factory reset. but I still cannot find Bluetooth and Wireless Wan.
The Wireless Wan adapter can be seen in Device Manager and Network Connections. Using "Diagnose this Connection", the suggestion is to "Turn on mobile broadband capability" & "Use the switch on the front or side of the computer, or use functions keys if available, to turn on mobile broadband capability on this computer."
The hardware wireless switch is turned on but Fn-F5 has no option for Wireless Wan.
Bluetooth is worse; the adapter cannot be found in Device Manager.
I have a T430s and I love it so far, except one negative thing is that it keeps "skipping" around whenever I type. During typing, on random occasions it will skip to wherever the cursor is placed at that moment, often in the middle of a word I had already typed previously. (It has done it 4 times while typing this message) Obviously, this makes it very annoying to have to re-do a word or sentence over and over. I definitely don't type extremely fast and try to be careful with my hand placement, but as a normal sized adult male, can it be possible that the new Chiclet Keyboard makes it easier for my fingers or palm to inadvertantly move or press the touchpad which causes this problem? Or is this a software defect?
This is my second Thinkpad and I've never had this problem before.

I'm planning to add a mSATA SSD on a brand new T430s and use the 500gb HD for data. I ordered the R&R DVD's so that I don't even have to turn on the machine with the factory drive. I will remove it and install the mSATA to install OS etc.
Then reinstall the factory drive for reformat and add data.
I'd rather do this than go through the whole first time setup with the factory drive just to create R&R disc. It seems like a giant waste of time otherwise.
I'm assuming the factory R&R discs will have the OS, drivers and Thinkpad utilities, which is all in need.
Just installed my T430s with Win7 x64.
But I have a problem with ejecting my ultrabay harddisk using "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject media" icon.
I installed the lastest Intel Rapid storage driver (RST) ver. 12.8.10.1005 from Lenovo download.
Ultrabay harddisk not in the list using Lenovo RST driver!
If I use the native Win7 driver (Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller) it works:
Works fine using native driver.
I assume the Intel RST driver might have some improvement to the native driver.....so I would frefer using that.

I have a T430s with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit that is not entering 30 Day Standby like it should. The issue seems to lie with Power Manager.
Inside of Power Manager I have the 30 Day Standby option checked, just like I should, and it is also reflected in the BIOS setup as well. If I change the BIOS transition time for 30 Day Standby to "Immediately" and start Windows, but don't log in, and put the computer to sleep. It almost immediately wakes up and transitions into 30-day standby.
Now I know that Power Manager has a "hard coded" setting of 3 hours, regardless of the BIOS setting. So after 3 hours, Power Manager will automatically wake up the computer like it would to transfer to 30-day standby, but it just goes back to normal sleep.
Today while on battery, it did this twice (according to the Windows Event Log) Wake up, and go back to Sleep / Standby (S3). In the logs, the wake source is listed as "Unknown" when it goes back to sleep 10 or so seconds later is listed as "Application API".
Like I said, I was running on battery, and I also went into device manager and unchecked anything I could think of that would have an option of "Allow this device to wake the computer". I also disabled the Wake-on-LAN option for the LAN card. Plus I had all USB devices unplugged, as well as no Ethernet cable in the LAN port anyway. Plus it does transition to the 30-Day standby if I force the computer to sleep at the login screen before Power Manager is loaded.
I just wanted to add I should have all driver / software updates as of Dec. 1 or so. I'm running Power Manager 6.63.1 and Power Management Driver 1.67.4.4.
My 3 month old t430s has a major issue with the audio/sound. At completely random times, I will have no sound for a matter of minutes or hours. This is primarily with web software and persists across multiple browsers.
- The speakers all test and the troubleshooting tests say they are working just fine. Occasionally, when testing the speakers, the control panel will give an error stating that they are in use by another program and that program needs to be shut down before they can be tested.
- all drivers are up to date and have recently been uninstalled and reinstalled
- the default audio device is set to the appropriate speakers
- I have had this problem with and without the Dolby Advanced Equalizer driver that comes as an optional sound update
- I have had sporadic luck with plugging in headphones, but often this does not give me any audio either.
Well I use my own laptop as a admin/standard user I use my standard user account mostly. I remember on my v570 when the user access control came up i had the option and i could type the password or use the finger print. so i was wonder if their is away i could set that up on the thinkvantage fingerprint software so that when the use access control comes up when i'm on my standard user account i could swipe my finger that i use for my admin.

I bought the computer seven months ago, and the battery start with Design capacity 44,000wWh, while the full charge capacity is quite closer to the design capacity. However in the battery report it shows that two weeks ago the design capacity suddenly drop from 44000 to 40734mWh in one week, and then afterwards it drop to 39000mWh. And the actual full charge capacity seems to linger around 37000mWh. Is there something wrong or is my battery just wear out naturally?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI’ve had the T430s for about a year. Whenever the laptop goes into sleep/hibernate mode, I hear a high pitched hum come from the bottom back section of the laptop. It also becomes noticeably louder when I unplug the AC adapter. I've put my ear to the laptop to try to identify where exactly the noise is coming from. I attached a picture with the general vicinity circled.
I don’t think I explained the issue to the repair centre properly. They ended up replacing the fan the first time I sent it in for repair. The second time I sent it, they replaced the system board. However, it continues to emit that high pitched hum.
Am I being too sensitive to the noise or is this something that can be fixed? I’m just past my warranty and I’m afraid if there is a problem that isn’t identified, I’ll be stuck with it for the next few years.

I recently upgraded my ThinkPad T430s to Windows 8 Pro and ever since my ultrabay battery gives me an error when ever I restart or turn the machine on. It goes away after I hit ok and the battery appears to still be functioning but the error is super annoying. I have the latest drivers and software from Lenovo and I have already had the battery replaced via tech support. Its so annoying i'm tempted to see if I can just get the whole unit swapped.
