Lenovo T400 / T500 :: T530 (2924UG) External Monitor Resolution
Apr 7, 2014
I have bought a Philips Brilliance 272P4 external monitor. Connected the monitor with DVI through docking. I get 1920 x 1080 as max resolution. The monitor displays a note, that I should use 2560 x 1440. I have installed the newest driver to the monitor.
The display card (Nvidia NVS 5400M) is using 333.02 driver, that is the latest recommended. How to enable higher resolution?
Do I get higher resolution with using the displayport insted of DVI port?

I am running 2 external displays through the ultradock on my t440s. The built in display looks nice and crisp. My second monitor is 1440x2560. The task bar is sharp and the title of most windows looks good. All programs looks terrible. Firefox is a blurry mess.

I have just bought a T530 for my sister, which is due to arrive soon, but on closer viewing, I realise that it doesn't actually have a webcam. Looking at the pictures of the T530, it seems that the bezel doesn't have the necessary hole for the webcam to see out of. It looks like the space is completely filled in. Are all T530 front bezels the same? Is it possible that it is just some kind of blanking plate in the space where the webcam is behind, which can be removed?
I have been searching online but to no avail. I am not sure if I need to buy a whole new bezel for the T530 + a 720p camera (part number: 04W1364?)+ a viewing window to go in the bezel?
Here is the ebay listing of the T530 I have bought: [URL] .....
and here are the parts I am thinking of buying... do I need to buy a new T530 bezel as well? [URL] .....

Periodically, when trying to unlock my T530 using the fingerprint reader, the reader is unresponsive (green light not on), forcing me to log on using my Windows password. This only seems to happen when the machine is powered on and is locked. After logging on manually and rebooting, the problem goes away, but will periodically return when the machine automatically locks itself after 10 minutes of inactivity.

Just 2 days ago I started recieving the error message 'Fan Error' after booting up my computer (T530). Before it gives me the message there is a loud beep noise. I'm going back to school soon and I'm hoping there is a way to repair this myself without buying a new fan. I'm really bad with operating on computers. I'm wondering if I just have to clean dust out of it or nudge the fan or something like that.

For some reason, but seemingly all of a sudden, when I plug my T530 in, the battery does not charge. When I move my cursor over the "power" icon in desktop mode, the message "Plugged in, not charging" appears. How do I alter this, so that I may charge my battery?

One thing that I've always found frustrating about my Windows 7 T530 (which is nearly perfect for me in every other respect) is its apparent lack of a number pad. I use a lot of alt codes for typing non-standard characters, and these codes only work when typed through the number pad -- not through the number row near the top of the keyboard. I experimented with switching my keyboard over to the US International layout, but this broke some keyboard shortcuts that I use very often (plus it's a bit cumbersome in general) so I didn't find it to be a satisfactory solution.
Is there any way to get number pad functionality on a T530 short of attaching an external keyboard? It's a hassle to have to manually cut and paste special characters out of Character Map whenver I'm writing in languages that use accent marks. I count myself among those who wish that Lenovo had stuck with the old-style laptop keyboards rather than switching to the new chiclet ones, and this is one of the main reasons why. If I could get the number pad working on this thing then I would be overjoyed.

I am unable to enter the BIOS (or the boot device and application menu) of my T530. When I press Enter at the 'Press Enter to interrupt normal startup' prompt, nothing happens. It just ignores my input completely. F1 doesn't do anything either.
Otherwise my ThinkPad is working fine, but I would like to change some settings (especially change the boot device, to boot from USB).

I got a nice T530 with built in 6205 Wireless LAN. As I tried to replace with N-6300 there comes the Hardware boot failure with error 1802 (incompatible PCI device). I just wonder as the N-6300 is in the compatibility list and the third antenna was also already built in. Is there any workaround to get this running?

I used to record streaming audio (internet radio, youtube, playback etc.) with Audacity on my old T43; now on new T530 no matter how I configure Realtek sound and Audacity I cannot.On the T43 I recorded using "SoundMAX Digital Audio: Wave out". Wit other soundcards it could be "Stereo mix". I get no option of choosing either Wave out or Stereo mix in Audacity.Below is an extract of Audacity WIKI page: URL....According to this information the issue might be Lenovo disabling the possibility of direct recording???
"Sometimes "Stereo Mix" can only be made to work by using the control panel supplied by the sound card manufacturer - this is often reported with RealTek inbuilt sound devices. Try launching the sound device control panel from the Windows Control Panel or the system tray (by the clock). If you see a volume control for Stereo Mix, try clicking to select it. Confusingly, some RealTek devices "select" an input by muting all but one, so in this case, mute everything except stereo mix. If you don't see Stereo Mix, click the wrench icon and enable Stereo Mix in the dialogue that pops up.
In some RealTek versions the option to check is "Enabled recording multi-streaming". You should now see a volume control for Stereo Mix. Remember to select or unmute it as above. Be aware that on some machines, the "Stereo Mix" option will never work because it is disabled internally by the driver settings due to copyright concerns. This is a known issue with Lenovo Thinkpad laptops, but sometimes editing the driver files can enable stereo mix."

The built-in camera on my T-530 is not working. I made a thread about it on Microsoft's support site, but I haven't been able to resolve the issue. [URL] ....
When I try to capture video with a program, All I get is this symbol:
It does this with every program I've tried including Camera, Windows Movie Maker, and Skype. The programs can still record videos and save them, but the only thing that appears in them is this symbol.
I've tried changing my permission settings. I can give skype permission to use the built-in camera, but it doesn't work. For whatever reason I don't have to option to give permission to Camera or to Movie Maker.
I've also reinstalled the driver for my camera. Then I ran the Lenovo Solution Center and Lenovo Thinkvantage System Update and updated everything I could.
Based on the advice I got from Microsoft tech support I have run the hardware trouble shooter, installed all the Windows updates I could get, reinstalled the built-in camera driver in compatibility mode and updated my BIOS driver.
After all of that, it still doesn't work.

I've been recovering from a virus and am trying to get things back to the way I had them and I've noticed something different about the volume meter. First off my volume indicator was missing, when I hit the volume buttons nothing showed up on screen. I realized I needed to install the energy mangement driver and did so. The issue is that I don't care for the appearance of the volume meter. It has yellowish green buttons and the volume increases and decreases by 5 with one press of the volume buttons. The volume meter that I had previously was a white white bar that increased and decreased by 1 each time I hit a volume button. I liked this design a lot better. I'm trying to figure out what version of the energy management driver I had previously that would allow my volume and brightness indicators to be the white bar instead of they yellowish green buttons. My machine type is 2359 and model is CTO with Windows 7 64 bit.

I was customizing a T530 on the Lenovo website and I noticed the option to get a 16 GB mSSD drive put in the computer that would apparently make the computer a bit snappier with frequently used programs, but I thought it would be cool to load the entire W7 OS on there and really make it fly, while just using the HDD for storage. But unfortunately for me, there's alot of mixed answers about that on other forums, and there's not even a lot of results in the first place, so I decided to come here and figure it out. Anyway, my questions are,
1, Since it's supposedly doable, what's the difference in performance compared to when it first came out of the box?
2, How difficult is it?
3, Is all the time and energy even worth it? When I receive it, should I just leave it alone and let it do its own thing, or should I not get the mSSD option and instead just take out the HDD and put a big SSD in its place?

Lenovo T530. Power settings of Windows 7 and in Lenovo power Manager say that when laptop is plugged to AC adapter - NO SLEEP. But i hear how hdd stops down after some period of time and spinning again when there is a data read or write. That`s quite annoying, especially when primary storage is ssd drive. How to get rid of this "feature"?

I got my thinkpad T530 last week. I tested the skype after opening the box and it works. Then I took off the original 320G HDD and put my 830 SSD on it, reinstalled the win8.Just last night when I tried to chat with my parents on skype i found out the the camera is dead. I tried by doing so:
1) according to others threads I uninstall most of the unnecessary drivers;
2) reinstall the camera driver;
3) deleted the ricoh media driver;
4) updated the BIOS;
5) tired to locate someone mentioned, the "privacy" problem. But the video/camera option is not even showing up by Fn+F6;
6) downloaded and installed the thirdparty AMCAM and it says no camera device can be found.

I was having issues with the Intel HD4000 drivers (right-click issue and VGA out not working properly). I tried to install the latest drivers downloaded from Lenovo's site - two attempts unsuccessfully. It would seem to be installing, but ended up taking quite a while to finally timeout in error. Just stated and error occurred and it could not install.
So, I decided to uninstall the drivers in the Windows 7 device manager. This left me with Standard VGA drivers under displays. Tried to install the Lenovo drivers again - no dice. It seems to attempt to for a while, then would just time out and stated there was an error (same as before).
So, I'm stuck at the Standard VGA drivers and seemingly no good way to get the proper drivers re-installed. I've even gone through the Lenovo System Update software and tried there - did not work and timed out there as well.
I know a system restore would remedy it, but I've got business software and things I'd have to reinstall and would prefer not to if I did not have to.
Seems I should be able to install some kind of drivers here, but no dice.

My T530 (a month old) is driving me crazy with this issue: Depending on which application is in the foreground, it will dim/undim the built-in screen (1600x900 version). I have turned off adaptive screen brightness in the power options, and I've turned off Film Mode Detection and Adaptive Contrast Enhancement in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Panel, but this "feature" won't go away.
How in the world can I get the screen to be on 100% brightness, unless I manually change it?

I just recently purchased a ThinkPad T530 (type/model# 2429-C93) which should have the following options present according to Lenovo´s product information:
i5-3320M(2.6GHz), 4GB RAM, 500GB 7200rpm HD, 15.6in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN, Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure Chip, Fingerprint reader, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64.
However, there is no Bluetooth device detected while trying to install the respective driver. Also, installation of the Integrated Camera Driver runs, but disappears at some point in time, with no error message or pop-up indicating a successful installation. Third, while trying to configure the Fingerprint sensor, the ThinkPad Fingerprint software states there is no device available.
Both camera and FP sensor are physically visible, where the green Bluetooth LED known from an R61 and T410 is missing at the lower edge of the lid.
Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 keys don´t provide an option to toggle on/off Bluetooth and camera, but only WiFi/WWAN and Audio options.
Device Manager does not show any unknown devices or such related to these functions.
Is there a chance that these options are missing in a specific laptop, despite specified for its type/model# (serial#: R9V8MNB)?
Or do I need to first activate the options in the BIOS?

After the latest system update from Lenovo System update, my laptop T530 doesn't do a successful cold boot. A warm successive boot (with interruptible boot screen) works fine.
But cold boot always fails and the system powers down in less than 5s. This is seen after the BIOS updated to 2.59.1.12. restore to older version of BIOS(downgrade it)?

I bought my ThinkPad T530 laptop in August of this year and about a month ago I used the Lenovo ThinkVantage updater and it updated the driver for my web cam. Ever since then it has stopped working.
Whenever I open the web conferencing menu, it only shows options for the microphone, and nothing for the camera. I have tried hitting Fn+F6 and accessing it via other software e.g. Skype, Oovoo, Picasa. And they say that my webcam cannot be detected.
When I checked for the webcam in device manager it said it was installed and working properly, and that the driver was up to date. I went to the lenovo website and downloaded the driver for the camera from there (g1ca16ww) and tried to update the driver manually hoping that that would fix the problem. Alas, it did not. I also checked the BIOS settings to make sure that the camera was enabled. It was.
So then I tried to reinstall the driver by uninstalling it, and using the driver I downloaded from the Lenovo website to reinstall. It installed properly, but now the webcam is no longer listed in the hardware manager and the dropdown for Imaging Devices, where it was located before, is no longer visible. I also rechecked the BIOS menu to make sure the camera was still listed there and it is. I do not know why it isn't working. I have also tried system restore and that didn't work either, the device still isn't listed. I don't want to have to wipe my computer.

I have a T530 with an SSD, less than a year old, that appears to be bricked ... when the power button is pushed, there is absolutely no noise (no fan, no beeps) and no indicator lights.
I'm having trouble getting the "what happened" story out of the user but I heard something like "the battery ran out and now it won't start". I suspect some improper behavior like hauling the machine around when it was "sleeping" (not off) but that as they say is another story.
Elsenet I saw the following "one weird tip" to discharge static buildup (*)
* unplug power
* take out battery
* take out RAM
then a sequence where you pushed the power button 9x and on the 10th time held it for 30 seconds. Then plug power in and try again. No soap (although the ram is internal, not in the expansion slot, so I haven't disassembled the keyboard area to check).
I also unplugged the battery/power and held down the power button for one minute - still no luck
Swapped out power supply and battery - no luck
Only indications of "life" are the little battery icon on the top of the case (e.g. when computer is closed):
- Battery not installed - put power cord in, icon flashes green 3x, stops, but power button does not turn on
- Battery installed - put power cord in, icon flashes green 3x, flashes long orange 1x, flashes short green 1x more
Is there something else I can try or is this a "Call IBM/Get this guy a loaner"?
* laptop appears to be staticy, I have gotten a couple of "snaps" off it, and that doesn't regularly happen
