View 4 Replies View RelatedIf you were to upgrade your laptop with dual channel memory, what combination would you use to upgrade to 6GB? Currently, I have a dv8 with 4GB (2x2GB). Would you have a combination of 2GB and 4GB? Wouldn't the ram pieces have to be of the same value and from the same manufacture?
View 10 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new HP laptop and it has 3gb ddr2 memory. It says that the max memory is 4gb, but I was wondering if you can put in say 6gb or 8gb? Reason I ask is because I saw a sony laptop that was essentially the same with the memory being the exception. On the Sony, it came with 4gb and was expandable to 8gb. Oh, and my laptop is running Windows 7 64bit if that matters. If its not possible, Ill just upgrade to 4gb... If you guys could though, maybe tell me what limits a pc's ability to run a certain amount of memory? Mine has 2 slots for memory and I have seen some 4gb sticks for sale, but Im not going to spend the money on something that wont work.

Also, is upgrading memory a simple task? I seem to remember reading that it is but would like your opinions on the matter. YouTube tutorials, etc.
At the moment i have 2GB of RAM running on the Turion 64 Dual Processor with Windows Vista Business (in the Control Panel > System it says the OS is 32-bit).
I have heard that with a 32-bit OS you can't go above 2GB in laptops. Is that right? It seems a little too broad of an accusation.
Will it acknowledge the extra 2GB i put in it?

i opened my TX to upgrade the hard drive. This job would have taken me no more than 15 minutes but i have spent to long on it now trying to get the small flat metal round screws that hold the metal plate in place that goes over the hard drive

If yes, what should I do? It is just as simple as replacing the hard drive?
If I upgrade my 320Gb 5400RPM to SSD, how much faster I can gain when I boot up my windows? Right now, my boot time is about 1 minute.
I happen to have a spare internal WWAN 3G card (Novatel EU870D), does anyone know if I could upgrade a Sony VGN-TT myself by installing this card?
I guess it'll be down to pre-installed antennas, compatible slot/space and SIM card reader.
On a seperate point, I wouldn't mind upgrading the memory too
Just a quick question regarding to upgrading my OS (32Bits) clean install to 64bits. Which key should i use then prompt? the one on my notebook or the key with the CD?

I have a SZ120P with the standard LCD screen which because of a recent fall cracked.
I got a good deal on a premium lcd housing and LED LCD so I thought I could use that to replace the screen.
I used the service manual to remove the old LCD screen and housing, and replace it with the new LED thin LCD and housing, but when I powered on, the LCD had no back lighting
I have an NS notebook and I was wondering if I could upgrade the processor and the HDD.
All that it has on the bottom of the notebook is easy access for the RAM. If I am able to upgrade these parts I would have to remove the entire bottom. So is the CPU soldered on or not
how often Sony upgrades their drivers?
I'm sitting with a SZ71 and nVidia driver from 2007.
I got some graphics issues and wouldn't mind to upgrade the drivers.
I made the mistake of falling for a CTO Z590 and not getting the specs I wanted, which included a 320GB 7200rpm HD instead of the slower 5400.
So, specs online indicated that a Scorpio Black was the right drive.
I've gotten it and have seen the steps on how to mechanically replace it.
My question, however, is advice on how I should go to transfer my data and switch OS.
I currently have Vista Business, 32-bit installed. I would like to go to Windows 7, 64-bit and then bring over my data. Going to 64-bit requires a full install.
Since I am going to switch over to the new drive as my internal drive, is it possible to swap the drives, install the new windows OS on a partition on the new HD, put the old drive into the external HD, and then transfer at my leisure files from the old HD on the new internal HD?
I'm a bit paranoid that once I disconnect the current HD, my data is at risk. Is this silly, or can I upgrade the way I just described?
Also, what are the benefits of partitioning my new drive for the OS as opposed to having everything on one partition?
Finally, the Windows 7 I have is still a Beta version and I have heard that if I install this version, come September of next year, I will have to do a full new install of a production version. Is this true? If so, what W7 64-bit version is available now? I don't mind paying.
I've been putting this off for a long time (have had the new drive sitting uselessly for over 2 months). I'm deployed to Iraq, so have no way to backup my data other than burning some DVDs and if I break something, no repair facilities.
I am upgrading the RAM and hard disk on my PCG-TR2 and was wondering if anyone knew what kind of hard disk to buy and what will be the maximum capacity that it will support?
I hear its a 160GB IDE hdd I need to buy but thats the only info I could find out.

I've got a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ1M/B with 512 Mb RAM and a 80 Gb 5600 rpm hard drive.
What's the most I can make out of that laptop?
I guess 2 Gb RAM and a 160 Gb 7200 rpm hard disk?
I got this laptop of mine about a year ago, working fine, sure, but I had a few questions regarding this and that.
First off, can anybody let me know what I can upgrade on my computer, what I should, and what I MUST (if it's not that MUST!, more like ...must, count it as should) upgrade? My laptop's current hardware is below. Oh, what do you guys think about a hard disk upgrade to a 250gb Western Digital 7200 RPM m!$#$^f#$^er?
Secondly, does any other fw user (or sony user in general) have problems with their dvd drive? Mine has this... "wow" issue, where it reads and writes dvds just fine but doesn't detect cds AT ALL. It's had this problem since day 1. So for almost a year, I'm wtfing the laptop every time i put in a cd.

I was thinking about upgrading to a 7200 RPM hard drive for my VAIO SR190.
I'm sure this voids warranty, but in the event that you need to send the laptop to Sony, couldn't you just put the original back in and they wouldn't notice?
