I recently bought an FW190 from a local store and the battery doesn't last more than 2-hours on power saver mode.

Clean of viruses and bugs.
I have a FW190, my internet works fine when plugged in, but nothing when wireless. When I hover over the Intel PROSet Wireless Utility, it says, No supported WiFi adapters available in the system.
Yes, the wireless switch is on
but the on light does not go on. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the Intel PROSet Wireless Utility, and installed the newest update on the Sony drivers site.
I have disabled and repaired the wireless connection. I have deleted the wireless card from my system and rebooted forcing Windows to find and install it again. I have done everything I can think of except reinstalling Windows...........
This took me a long time to find out... Read my post here to save yourself the time and just "make it work"!

I'm thinking about doing a full clean install of Windows 7 (64-bit) on my SZ6 (SZ680 in my case),
and was wondering whether any of you guys have managed to do so successfully already (getting all hardware to function, as well as the Fn, Brightness keys, etc.
Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to download Windows 7 RC 1 for a VGN-FZ190 pre-installed with Vista Ultimate? I'm worried about the drivers not being backwards compatible and it was a mistake buying from Sony 2 years ago without realizing they don't have each and every single driver needed for this computer on their website.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded from Vista to windows 7 pro 64. I have a Sony Z, but there isn't any driver support for the video card (geforce 9300m gs) from Sony. The computer doesn't seem to even be recognizing there is a graphics card aside from the on board one.
Also, in device manager there is a 'Base System Device' driver isn't installed either. I've gone over this with sony but I keep getting different people and basically telling me to do the same thing
Can you guys play blu ray on Z in speed mode? I can play in stamina fine but not in speed mode. I think it's because the video card driver's not up to date

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed a 64 bit version of windows 7 on my sz650 and so far everything is working great. Most of the important drivers have already been detected by windows.
The biggest inconvinience I have is that I can't seem to find a touchpad driver for the 64 bit version of windows 7. Th touchpad works fine and I can use it but I cant use the scroll function. I've been looking all over the internet for a compatible driver and it's driving me crazy. i really don't want to go back to vista as I like 7 a lot better. Has anyone gotten the scroll function to work on 64 bit 7? If you have can you please post a link to the driver?
unfortunate that sony esupport site gives windows 7 drivers 32 and 64 bit for all SR series except the 100 series.
Has anybody tried installing Windows 7 64 bit on their SR190?
So far I've found this, but it was 32 bit: My Vaio SR190 Windows 7 install experience and walkthrough.
The only Windows 7 threads are specific to the Z model, so I thought I would start one.
I installed Windows 7 on my three year old Sony Vaio VGN-FS760/W (1.73GHz Pentium M730, 2GB Ram, 90 GB 4200rpm HDD, NVidia Graphics).
The Windows experience index was 2.0
But surprisingly the OS rocks! - has a 500MB footprint, runs less than 45 processes with clean install , and even aero works without any issues.
features I like - Random Wallpaper changing native to OS. New transparent start bar. More later as I find the tweaks.
I have TZ191 N XC. 32GB SSD. It ran Windows Vista Business beautifully (clean install, of course).
Upgrade install of Windows 7 took forever - roughly 2 hours. But, no errors, or hiccups in installation. Boot times seem about the same as Vista - which were pretty quick, but its been a year now, so I'm a little ho-hum lol. Anybody with a clean install notice faster boots?
Other than that, Windows 7 feels pretty much like Vista. I notice very little improvements, or problems. Aesthetically, I wouldn't even call it much different. As I mentioned to someone on a different board, I don't know if I'm "unimpressed" or "still happy". What's the difference with this OS again?
I faxed my receipt/email to the number provided in the confirmation email and I was wondering if anybody has gotten a confirmation that your request for the Windows 7 upgrade has been successful.
View 4 Replies View RelatedJust installed Windows 7 on a separate partition of my vaio SR. Things went surprisingly smooth. It picked up many drivers (unlike vista) right off the bat. ATI graphics, wifi, ethernet were all working. For the rest, I (re)installed drivers from esupport site for Vista 32 bit. The only minor problem I ran into was the Intel Chipset driver for which I had to run it in Vista Compatibility mode to install. Has any other SR owner given windows 7 a shot?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've installed Windows 7 64-bit on my Sony Z12MN today and cant seem to get the drivers to work. I tried downloading 64-bit drivers from Sony's website for their Z690 which is more or less the same but any driver I try to run, I get the message that its not intended for my model and the installation aborts.
Is there any way to extract the files from these Sony drivers and then manually install the driver? I know WinRAR couldnt do it
Just installed windows 7 on my vgn-sz650. I have ran into a couple road blocks.
1) I keep getting an error window that says "The installed battery may not be properly connected... ...Click "OK" to enter hibernatemode". I don't get this error with vista. I get the error with the AC plugged in or running off the battery.
2) Can't get the FN keys to work.
Anyone have experience with installing windows 7 on a SZ series?
After successfully upgrading bios to enable VT, I'm noticing some issues with Win7 and my vgn sz280p. The s1/s2 buttons do not work, the video card switch does not say anything when switched (in vista and xp i get a notice to reboot in order to switch graphics cards), and the FN-F1 to F7 keys do not work properly. FN-F1 does not work, F2-F4 (audio controls) work although nothing shows in the screen and no beep, F5-F7 (contrast and LCD/projector) do not work. FN-F10 and F12 also do not work, even FN-Break (delete).
Anyone here using vgn sz and windows7? How did you resolve the buttons issue? I tried installing the vista drivers but they wouldn't work (most of them).
Also, what upgrades have you guys done to a vgn sz laptop? RAM, CPU? I believe I can upgrade RAM from 2GB to 4GB but not sure if the bios will take it. And I'm not sure if I can switch from core duo to core 2 duo.
Other than these few issues, I believe this vgn sz laptop performs good with windos 7. This 3yr old laptop of mine outperforms my other cheaper laptops that I bought a couple months back.
Updated to windows 7 on my FW and it's definitely slower at booting up than vista. Vista was probably under 50 seconds and
it was fully usable after these 50 seconds. Now, in windows 7 it takes over 2 minutes for it to be fully usable.
I have installed Windows 7 Ulitimate on my FZ280. I followed the instructions of ScuderiaConchiglia and the win7 suggestions of Dr Pratik. The instructions seemed to be perfect.
I installed the OS and followed his instructions. Everything seems to work perfectly, including the Fn keys.
But I have found my first issue. I am having problems playing blu ray discs. I have tried Windows Media Player, DivX and Cyberlind PowerDVD to no avail
I have the problem with Novatel Wireless Expedite WV-DO Modem on my TXN27N after I upgraded to Windows 7. It does not show up in Devices manager

But when I put in the XP CD in and reboot, it says that there are no hard drives on my system
When I installed Windows 7 32 bit I seemed to have lost a few of my drivers, those being the scroll bar in my touchpad, my camera, and the computers ability to go to sleep.
I found this link ftp://ftp.vaio-link.com/PUB/VAIO/ORIGINAL/ but I don't know which ones I need. So if any one good help, that would be grea
Do you think Sony will release Windows 7 drivers and utilities for FW and make everything works perfectly, including ALL Fn keys and special buttons?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt seems that Sony is updating their FTP with Win 7 drivers. Some drivers are Alps touchpad(Win 7/Vista 64-bit), Nvidia 186.56(Win 7/ Vista 64-bit), Intel chipset,
SATA driver, etc.
