Feb 19, 2010I'm currently thinking about installing windows 7 64bit instead of vista 32bit, which I am running atm.
Partly to get use of all 4gb and partly cause I've heard good stuff about windows 7, at least compared to vista, which is utter *beeep*.
My questions is now - where do I find compatible drivers for windows 7 64 bit.
My laptop is as the thread name reveals a Dell xps m1530.

Jan 29, 2009I plan to order my FW390 very soon, and would like to do a clean install of Vista onto it. My only problem is that the Vista I own is 32bit Business. I plan on having much more then 3Gigs on my FW requiring me to have 64bit. Is there anyway I can download a 64bit version of business and use my 32bit key?

Dec 3, 2009Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?

Apr 17, 2009Just received my new CTO Z-690 today with vista home premium (64 bit), and to save a little on cost, bought an OEM Vista Ult 64bit separately.
Now I'd like to install vista ultimate instead and i just want to make sure i have the steps right.
1. backup/create recovery disks just in case something messes up.
2. install vista ultimate, wiping out everything
3. install drivers from sony's website
lastly, 2 questions
1) since my current drivers are for vista home premium, i will have to download new ones regardless right?
2) is there anything else that i should be doing?

Apr 24, 2009I have a hp with 32bit vista ult. Can I upgrade to 64bit with an hp oem disk with no problem? I work for dell and we upgrade people everyday. But I never upgraded anyone to 64 from 32bit.

It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? Problem is, most of the utilities/programs listed earlier in the "Windows 7 on Vaio Z" thread are not available from esupport.sony.com in 32-bit flavor for this particular model.
I've tried to use 32-bit drivers from the Z690 on my Z720, but Sony does enforce model restrictions within its package

Oct 12, 2014Have Extensa 4420. Been unable to restore old Vista OS so decided to move up to Win 7 32 bit. Started the install from DVD but got error message that I could not install on the system partition as it was "reserved" by Acer. This is half of the HDD.

I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.

Jan 12, 2009Simply put I went to update the bios on my notebook as I have previously without incident. Well this time the update downloaded, installed and powered down Windows Vista 64bit SP1. After that nothing! The power lights come on but that is it. No HP Screen, No MSFT Screen no nothing. I honestly think this is a bios update caused by HP's own update.

Windows hangs up during shut down when SmartWi is installed. When I am removing it - everything works normal again.
Maybe someone has another Wireless Switching Utility for Vaio-SZ?

Dec 18, 2009just recently installed win7 x86 and everything seems to be working. I have one remaining unknown device under USB controllers and i am trying to figure out what it belongs to. my webcam works (although i think its listed as usb input device), and parser device, i/o device and texas mem stick have all been installed. i have also noticed that my fingerprint reader says that it is not connected when im first booting into windows although it works properly. could this unknown device have something to do with the reader?

Mar 23, 2009i have recently formatted my hard drive and installed cean copy of Vista Ultilate on my DELL Inspiron 1525 machine. I did not use dell recovery partion to install, instead i use Vista Disk.
I was able to install all the drivers except bluetooth. Whenever i try to to install bluetooth drivers i get following error " The installer be run on windows vista only"..
i was with dell tech support for couple of hours but they were not able to solve my problem. The bluetooth is enabled in BIOS, switch is on etc.

Nov 18, 2009I bought a used Sony Vaio Laptop today.
I live in the Caribbean so its usually a little more expensive but over all I think it was a fair price.
But I really really love this laptop, the guy even put in a brand new western digital 320 GB HDD in it because this laptop was giving problems before so he decided to replace the HDD.
I am just concerned about the LCD lamp life and I hope this lappie lasts me another 3 years or more. I heard SONY quality in their laptop has depreciated.
Anyways the WEB CAM is not working because it needs drivers and when I use the short cut for screen brightness isn't working. I am not sure if its a fault with the laptop itself though. Because when I use shortcut for speaker mute with the fn key they work. All except the screen brightness.
I keep getting errors every time I try to install the windows vista drivers.
Also how do I recalibrate the battery for this? I think the battery is having issues charging and keeping a steady charge the estimation it gives is very out of alignment so to speak.

my camera works fine (I completely shut down my computer and boot it again)
The thing is that this driver is not working with Sony Camera Utility, but it works with other program that involve camera (like I use Yahoo Messenger to start my camera, and it works very well).

Nov 19, 2009I have done a clean install of Windows 7 64-bit informed by Firestone and others on this Forum. Everything works well - in fact arguably better in terms of functionality of Stamina/Speed switch - with one exception.
I have not been able to install the WWAN successfully. I have tried a number of times to uninstall and reinstall the drivers from links on this site and also even tried the Sony EU support site Windows 7 drivers with no luck. I have tried asking windows to search for the best driver with no luck. Globetrotter Connect has installed correctly, as far as I can see, but just doesn't pick up the WWAN card.
