I've installed Windows 7 32bit on my Vaio VGN-SZ330P. I got everything working fine, except the SmartWi Wireless Switcher:

Windows hangs up during shut down when SmartWi is installed. When I am removing it - everything works normal again.
Maybe someone has another Wireless Switching Utility for Vaio-SZ?
Does anyone have SmartWi working on Windows 7? I have a Sony TX. I clean-installed Windows 7. Works great except I want to get the EVDO WWAN working. I tried installing from the Sony website:
1. SOOOTH-39500000-US.EXE - Sony Notebook Utilities
2. SODSPI-00445702-US.EXE - Sony Programmable I/O Driver
3. SOASSL-01298203-US.EXE - Sony Shared Library
4. NODOTH-01259602-US.EXE - EVDO Driver
5. SOAOTH-01466800-US.EXE - SmartWi
And SmartWi appears to be working except that when I try to switch WWAN on/off, I get told that my hardware switch is off - except that is is in fact on.
(And if there's some alternative to SmartWi for using the WWAN, SmartWi under Vista was so buggy...)

just recently installed win7 x86 and everything seems to be working. I have one remaining unknown device under USB controllers and i am trying to figure out what it belongs to. my webcam works (although i think its listed as usb input device), and parser device, i/o device and texas mem stick have all been installed. i have also noticed that my fingerprint reader says that it is not connected when im first booting into windows although it works properly. could this unknown device have something to do with the reader?

I have searched the forums and have only found guides for performing an upgrade install to 32bit and a clean install to 64bit.
I bought a used Sony Vaio Laptop today.
I live in the Caribbean so its usually a little more expensive but over all I think it was a fair price.
But I really really love this laptop, the guy even put in a brand new western digital 320 GB HDD in it because this laptop was giving problems before so he decided to replace the HDD.
I am just concerned about the LCD lamp life and I hope this lappie lasts me another 3 years or more. I heard SONY quality in their laptop has depreciated.
Anyways the WEB CAM is not working because it needs drivers and when I use the short cut for screen brightness isn't working. I am not sure if its a fault with the laptop itself though. Because when I use shortcut for speaker mute with the fn key they work. All except the screen brightness.
I keep getting errors every time I try to install the windows vista drivers.
Also how do I recalibrate the battery for this? I think the battery is having issues charging and keeping a steady charge the estimation it gives is very out of alignment so to speak.
Is this a Sony product or part of Windows Vista?
If it is a Sony product, is anyone getting a better connection with the Windows utility?
After opening up my Sony Z to repair the cooling system, I found my laptop could not detect my Bluetooth module anymore. It worked perfectly before.
I mean, not even find the piece of hardware. It's not that it can't detect Bluetooth devices, the laptop doens't think I have one anymore!
1. SmartWi - Checked, double checked, uninstalled and then reinstalled - nada. SmartWi says it's on!
2. Reinstalled Bluetooth driver - Attempt failed, since it persistently informs me to "turn on Bluetooth" or "plug it in".
3. Toggled Wireless switch - Several times - the green light is on! I'm connected to WiFi! So that can't be the cultprit.
4. Hardware - i checked the Ribbons / antennae (FPC-123) - all intact with no scratches.
5. Bluetooth is not even listed under Device Manager.

Anyone heard of Bluetooth suddenly puttering out?
Should I extract the Bluetooth Module and give it a beating?
I did a clean install of Vista a few weeks back and I decided not to install the SmartWi application. Is there a way to turn off the Bluetooth in order to get longer battery life? I have just been disabling the Bluetooth in the device manager.
I also disabled the 'Bluetooth Software' from the startup items, but the bluetooth icon still appears after a restart. Does this signify that it is on?
I just installed WIN 7 upgrade and noticed in SmartWI Utillity there are only 3 items:
Verizon Wireless
WI FI
Bluetooth
Where is GPS option that was under windows VISTA ?
Is it now integrated under Verizon Wireless so u TURN ON GPS when you turn on Verizon?
Now heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?

I really want to upgrade to Windows 7, and moreover use the new Bios and Nvidia driver update, however, this seems really complicated. Sony seemed to make things more complicated by only putting the nvidiadriver in the 64bit section, so I'm wondering, for 32bit owners who want to use Windows 7 32bit, is there a way to use the new updated nvidia driver in 32bit Windows 7 professional? Also, would it be worth it since I use 4GB of ram to just clean install to 64bit Windows 7, I'm only afraid of compatibility errors with random-less-official, programs, where as since I got 32bit, I haven't had a single problem since.
