Dell Latitude E7440 :: Intel Proset WiFi Connection Utility
Nov 13, 2014I've been having issues with this with this utility either not connecting upon resuming my laptop or even from a fresh start. I visit many offices at I am the IT manger and all the connections are saved in profiles but despite them being saved they won't connect even when I try to connect manually. The only way to get the adapter to connect is to right click Proset running in the tray and click "reset proset". Even now while typing this I am connected via wifi but the proset icon shows "connecting"
I've tried updating the wifi adapter drivers from Dell and Intel directly and also completely removed the drivers and re-installed them but I am still having the same issue.
Sony :: Windows 7 & SmartWi
Feb 7, 2009Does anyone have SmartWi working on Windows 7? I have a Sony TX. I clean-installed Windows 7. Works great except I want to get the EVDO WWAN working. I tried installing from the Sony website:
1. SOOOTH-39500000-US.EXE - Sony Notebook Utilities
2. SODSPI-00445702-US.EXE - Sony Programmable I/O Driver
3. SOASSL-01298203-US.EXE - Sony Shared Library
4. NODOTH-01259602-US.EXE - EVDO Driver
5. SOAOTH-01466800-US.EXE - SmartWi
And SmartWi appears to be working except that when I try to switch WWAN on/off, I get told that my hardware switch is off - except that is is in fact on.
(And if there's some alternative to SmartWi for using the WWAN, SmartWi under Vista was so buggy...)
Sony :: Z And BluetoothWon't Turn On! (Even With SmartWi)
Jan 20, 2010After opening up my Sony Z to repair the cooling system, I found my laptop could not detect my Bluetooth module anymore. It worked perfectly before.
I mean, not even find the piece of hardware. It's not that it can't detect Bluetooth devices, the laptop doens't think I have one anymore!
1. SmartWi - Checked, double checked, uninstalled and then reinstalled - nada. SmartWi says it's on!
2. Reinstalled Bluetooth driver - Attempt failed, since it persistently informs me to "turn on Bluetooth" or "plug it in".
3. Toggled Wireless switch - Several times - the green light is on! I'm connected to WiFi! So that can't be the cultprit.
4. Hardware - i checked the Ribbons / antennae (FPC-123) - all intact with no scratches.
5. Bluetooth is not even listed under Device Manager.
Model: Sony VGN-650N. OS: Vista
Anyone heard of Bluetooth suddenly puttering out?
Should I extract the Bluetooth Module and give it a beating?
Sony :: Turning Off Bluetooth Without SmartWi Installed
May 20, 2009I did a clean install of Vista a few weeks back and I decided not to install the SmartWi application. Is there a way to turn off the Bluetooth in order to get longer battery life? I have just been disabling the Bluetooth in the device manager.
I also disabled the 'Bluetooth Software' from the startup items, but the bluetooth icon still appears after a restart. Does this signify that it is on?

Dec 17, 2009I've installed Windows 7 32bit on my Vaio VGN-SZ330P. I got everything working fine, except the SmartWi Wireless Switcher:

Windows hangs up during shut down when SmartWi is installed. When I am removing it - everything works normal again.
Maybe someone has another Wireless Switching Utility for Vaio-SZ?

WI FI
Bluetooth
Where is GPS option that was under windows VISTA ?
Is it now integrated under Verizon Wireless so u TURN ON GPS when you turn on Verizon?

Mar 29, 2009I know that my notebook came with the Sony® Notebook Setup utility program but I lost this recovery disks that came with this notebook so I did have to buy Windows XP Home and did a clean installation of it. I did get the drivers from esupport.sony.com but I can't find the Sony Notebook Setup utility program.
Does anyone know how I can download this and install this on my notebook? It's a program that tells the specs of my PC.
My notebook model is: PCG-R505ESP

Aug 16, 2009I have a problem with the camera on my VAIO VGN-CR353. Whenever I take a still photo or video, the captured image or video that is saved becomes mirrored (the left and right are reversed). Even the mirror box in the camera setup is unchecked. Currently, I am running version 2.7.01.08030 of VAIO camera capture utility and the driver for the webcam is version 6.1005.209.0.

Jun 24, 2009I own a vaio Z620d and I'm trying to do a clean install of windows vista business. I downloaded all the latest drivers and utilities from sony support site but whenever I finished installing the Sony utilities, I'd get this error complaining about my battery is not supported/authenticate. Even though the battery is the sony one from the box itself!
I know that you can prevent the ISBMgr from launching in the msconfig, but I do not want to do that. As I read from a post that the ISB utility controls the FN Keys and Eject Button.

May 3, 2010I was asked to fix up an old Vaio SZ18GP (I think it was SZ160p in the US?) The owner's son had had a go on it and deleted the recovery partition and basically screwed this thing up beyond all belief. So no restore CD, no recovery partition on D:, nothing.
I used our institutional licence for XP Pro+SP3 to get Windows up and running and got most of the drivers from Sony Australia's website. Followed some instructions on a clean install using XP from somewhere else which helped a lot, but now I'm stuck - I have no idea how to get the fingerprint reader to run. The Device Manager has it detected and working, but I don't know if there is supposed to be a utility of some sort which allows it to start or what.
I did take the Vaio control center from Sony so I can see all that stuff, but I don't see anything about the FPR in there at all. Anyone got any ideas? I presume it should pop up and ask me to register fingerprints at some point or something, but nothing so far.
Also, got the webcam up and running with no problems once SP3 was on (needed that shutdown-freeze fix), and although it seems to work it doesn't seem to work. None of the chat sites seem to detect it. The one I am most familiar with is CamFrog - the setup page has it running fine and I can see a preview on the screen of my face looking at it, but as soon as you try to connect to a user or room it says it's non functional. Not sure if it's just screwed or misconfigured or what. It shows up fine in Device Manager and you can access it and make it take a picture in the Scanning and Camera Wizard in XP, but Google chat and CamFrog seem to dislike it.
Sony :: Vaio Smart Network Utility- Required? Start-up Performance
Mar 3, 2010I have a Vaio Z36GD (Asian version of the Z69). I recently cleaned the hard drive and reinstalled the OS from the recovery CD's I created when I originally purchased the machine.
I have run all the updates for Windows, BIOS, etc. Running VISTA Business 64 bit SP2.
For the most part, the machine is performing well.
However, the Vaio Smart Network utility seems to slow down the start-up process (it is always the last thing to become available...with a pause and the cursor clocking for about 10 seconds before it is complete). I don't have much else running at start-up (NIS 2010 and other standard utilities...pointer, etc.).
Anyway, can I remove or disable the Vaio Smart Network utility and still effective use and manage Wifi, Bluetooth, and LAN connections? Has anyone else noticed this performance issue and addressed it?

This one really has me stumped - I'd appreciate any suggestions!
In summary, I have a problem with my Sony VAIO TZ31 wherein I'm unable to use my WiFi. The Wireless Device Switcher utility (C:Program FilesSonyWireless Switch Setting UtilitySwitcher.exe version 4.0) no longer 'sees' my integrated WLAN card to give me the option of turning it on or off, however it does see both the Bluetooth and WWAN cards. The hardware switch on the front of the laptop is in the 'ON' position, and the Bluetooth and WWAN lights are illuminated, however the WLAN light isn't, and I can find no way of enabling it. The Bluetooth and WWAN are still working.
My problem determination so far:
The normal Windows Wireless Network Connection dialogue tells me immediately (i.e. doesn't seem to scan at all) that it can't find any networks and that I should check that my wireless is turned on. I have another several devices in the house that are seeing the network just fine, as does my iPhone right next to this laptop.
Running an `IPCONFIG ALL` from the command line suggests that it is physically still there:

Checking in Windows Device Manager the `Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AGN' entry appears with no question marks or exclamation marks telling me there's a problem or that the device is disabled. Opening up the properties dialogue for this, the drop down box on the Advanced tab says 'Wireless On'. All other properties are on the default values....
Sony :: Wireless Connection- VAIO SR 390
Mar 4, 2009My new Sony VAIO SR 390 arrived yesterday. When I turn on the computer, restart, awake from sleep, etc, I have to manually disconnect and reconnect to my wireless network. If I don't, I have the little yellow triangle in the tray saying "unidentified network" and the internet doesn't work.
I have turned the wireless switch on and off, disabled and enabled the connection, updated the driver, and changed the power settings in the device manager. All of this has not helped.
Other than that, I have had no problems and I'm very happy with the computer. I haven't noticed the battery drain issue either.

Sony :: VAIO Z-Series Wireless Connection Drops
Mar 27, 2009I own a Z series Z540. After multiple Vista reinstalls and driver reinstalls, the wireless connection always drops. It would maintain connection for about 5 minutes, then it drops again. The wireless light stays on though.
I tried going on XP and ssee how that works out. Same problem, except that it drops when I MOVE it. And when it drops, the wireless light turns off, and when I move it back into a certain position again, the wireless light goes back on, and the wireless is back.
However, when I am on vista, the connection just drops for no reason, even without touching it, every 5 minutes. The light does stay on, though.

Feb 22, 2009tryed everything to get my network adapter to connect to my network cable. I reinstalled my network driver but the problem remains the same.
how to fix this network adapter issue?
Support guys told me to restore the computer an to earlier time using the System Restore feature, but I'd like to know if there's someething else i could do before that.

Nov 17, 2009I comleted a factory restore on my FW, now I cannot connect to the internet.
Network Connections only shows LAN and Bluetooth options. Wireless mecha switch is on, Smartwi utility shows the wireless LAN is on. Of course, status is disconnected.
I can't find any wireless networks around me, including my trusty linksys G that would connect flawlessly prior to the restore.

Feb 10, 2009I have this "problem" since I got my Z. When I start vaio update 3 utility I get this error "messageID=0008" there are no updates for your model bla bla...
However when I go to vaio support page, there are some new updates for my Z590N model (new Bios, USB patch...)
I have downloaded new version of Viao Update utility 3.2.something but I had to uninstall my current version (3.1.something), which I did. However when I started this new setup message poped up "there is no previous version installed" - abort.
I have checked esupport page where is said if you have problems with Vaio Update 3, to download Sony Shared Library which suppose to contain vaio update utility), I run installation but it doesn't install Vaio Update 3
Now, I can live with this esupport page regular visit updates,

Aug 12, 2009I would like to create a dual-boot Vista and Ubuntu on Dell Studio XPS 13. When I tried to partition the hard disk, I found that there are Dell Utility and Recovery partitions.
What are these partitions? Is it safe to delete them? If I delete them, can I restore them back again? How can I backup, if possible, these partitions to CD or DVD before deleting them

Jan 8, 2009Has anyone else gotten this same alert? "WLAN Card Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close." Every so often I get this message, my computer is fine and my wireless is also fine, I just get that message. I have the 1395 mini-card, if that makes a difference.
Also, I have noticed that my wireless signal gets dropped sometimes for no reason. It might be the routers fault but I'm not sure.

Sep 16, 2009Would someone please verify that the utility used to flash the BIOS on my new Acer laptop looks like it does in the attached image? Because flashing a BIOS is a pretty serious thing to do with a purchase that costs $500+, I was surprised to see a picture of a CRT monitor wearing a wizard hat using a pencil to erase something. Also the use of non standard fonts is disturbing.
more importantly, are all ACER bios releases unsigned?
