I had a problem with overheating with my 1730 so emailed dell and they told me to hold Fn while booting and run a diagnostic test,
and after the memory test I "should" have had an option to "TEST SYSTEM" but instead I got a message saying "No diagnostic utility partion identified/found"
I have an Inspiron 1750 that will not recognize the hard drive. I have done the on-board diagnostics and the preboot assessment says that no diagnostic utility partition identified.  I am hoping that I just need to replace the hard drive, but I did not make a restore disc before it crashed. Which of the drivers I need to restore the computer to it's factory settings.
I just did a clean install of win7. When asked on which partition I wanted it I also deleted the recovery partion thinking it would just be reallocated to the one I was installing win7.
Now win7 is all installed but I have a unallocated 15 gb and I have no idea how to get this space back.
I was wondering how much you are into the diagnostic beeps our Dells now and then are providing.
A friend of mine used an external multi battery (suitable for other devices and laptops) devicee to charge her laptop (I believe it had something to do with solar energy..?) That didn't work out so well and afterwards the laptop smelled after burning rubber.
She handed it over to me but so far I didn't find out what the sound means. I read through the official service manual. The only suggestion I am getting is that I should contact a service provider. However, that does not seem to be most cheap solution.
i bought a new hard drive, and it has a load of space i will not use, so was thinking of adding both the recovery partition and diagnostics partition, But have some questions of how i would even do that. First, what would i do, just create a couple of blank partitions?
cant run launch diagnostic download. Â Today when I opened laptop from "hibernate" I got a blue screen that said "windows crash dump". Â My security is updated and running. Â Doesn't look like anything has happened. Â Who do I contact for this?
my laptop has failed the hard drive diagnostic with an error code of 2000-0142, and looking here in the forum I see it means that I should replace the hard drive. That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?
My HP pavilion is stuck on diagnosing PC problems- attempting solution loop after initiatin the automatic pc repair.  I run the HP PC Hardware Diagnostotic and I got:  SMART Check : PASSED Long DST : FAILED  FAILURE ID : 9LG1VQ-6NP78B-MFPWXG-61AL03 PRODUCT ID : E2H36EA#AB7  As for the memory check it passed the test.  the model is HP Pavilion 15 Notebook pc running windows 8  When pressing f11 at system recovery Recovery Your PC needs to be repaired A required device isn't connected or can't be accesed. Error code: 0xc0000185  You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media ( like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer  I do not possses the windows 8 disc since it did not come together with the laptop.  I searched on the net that removing the battery and waiting may work but it didn't.
I would like to create a dual-boot Vista and Ubuntu on Dell Studio XPS 13. When I tried to partition the hard disk, I found that there are Dell Utility and Recovery partitions.
What are these partitions? Is it safe to delete them? If I delete them, can I restore them back again? How can I backup, if possible, these partitions to CD or DVD before deleting them
Has anyone else gotten this same alert? "WLAN Card Utility has encountered a problem and needs to close." Every so often I get this message, my computer is fine and my wireless is also fine, I just get that message. I have the 1395 mini-card, if that makes a difference.
Also, I have noticed that my wireless signal gets dropped sometimes for no reason. It might be the routers fault but I'm not sure.
I am using an Inspiron 15R SE 7520 which I upgraded to Windows 8 after partitioning my hard drive (two accessible drives c: and d:). The restore partition was left intact.
Due to a software incompatibility I am going to have to restore back to Windows 7, and I hope to use the Dell restore utility.
My question is: If I use the utility will my D drive data (backed up files etc) also be wiped, or will just the C drive be reformatted?
I just received a refurbished Inspiron 17R SE with the HD and SSD pre-installed.  I want to use the Intel Smart Response feature to speed up the hard disk with my SSD.  When I open the Intel Rapid Storage utility I see no accelerator button.  How do I enable this feature?
I have the BIOS SATA type set to Smart Response. Â It arrived with that setting. Â I don't know of any other setting that could affect this.
I've been having issues with this with this utility either not connecting upon resuming my laptop or even from a fresh start. I visit many offices at I am the IT manger and all the connections are saved in profiles but despite them being saved they won't connect even when I try to connect manually. The only way to get the adapter to connect is to right click Proset running in the tray and click "reset proset". Even now while typing this I am connected via wifi but the proset icon shows "connecting"
I've tried updating the wifi adapter drivers from Dell and Intel directly and also completely removed the drivers and re-installed them but I am still having the same issue.
I know that my notebook came with the Sony® Notebook Setup utility program but I lost this recovery disks that came with this notebook so I did have to buy Windows XP Home and did a clean installation of it. I did get the drivers from esupport.sony.com but I can't find the Sony Notebook Setup utility program.
Does anyone know how I can download this and install this on my notebook? It's a program that tells the specs of my PC.
how to tattoo a hp Motherboard? I have the Hp Tattoo software but They would not give me the unzip password. Just wondering if any of you motherboard repair people had a copy.
The Dell Recover Partition is a great idea and everything, but is it worth it? I tried creating a new partition on my harddrive to store my music and it won't let me because the drive is all locked up. I want to format the whole drive and start fresh so I can have a seperate partition for my personal files. This means getting rid of the recovery partition. They shipped me an XP installation disc, but no drivers...I can download those. Plus on the recovery partition there is a lot of bloatware.
Would someone please verify that the utility used to flash the BIOS on my new Acer laptop looks like it does in the attached image? Because flashing a BIOS is a pretty serious thing to do with a purchase that costs $500+, I was surprised to see a picture of a CRT monitor wearing a wizard hat using a pencil to erase something. Also the use of non standard fonts is disturbing.
more importantly, are all ACER bios releases unsigned?
The attached picture is of the Insyde InsydeFlash utility for a 4810T v1.28 BIOS.
I have a problem with the camera on my VAIO VGN-CR353. Whenever I take a still photo or video, the captured image or video that is saved becomes mirrored (the left and right are reversed). Even the mirror box in the camera setup is unchecked. Currently, I am running version 2.7.01.08030 of VAIO camera capture utility and the driver for the webcam is version 6.1005.209.0.
everytime the vaio update wants to update the setting utility series but everytime the installation fails.is there any workaround for installing the latest version.
I just downloaded to OS X Yosemite and my printer won't work wirelessly. Â When I go to open printer utility to check my wireless settings it won't open. Â how to open the printer utility button so I can try and fix the wireless issue? Â
The only reason I purchased my xps m1710Â is that I thought it was the top of the range model at the time, now all I want to do is replace the hd but at the same time retain all the functionality of the hidden restore partition and the media centre partition. You would expect Dell would make this easy for me as the owner and as Dell market themselves as providing user friendly IT solutions.
I have tried using trueimage to clone the drive but when trying the new drive on boot up it gets to the Dell 'blue bar' then freezes. I have tried copying partition by partition but this is even less successful.
I have tried restoring the restore 'ghost' image to the new hard drive but symantec ghost reports incompatibilities with the image file.
I am upgrading my original Samsung hd (SATA) to a new hd and would like to keep the hidden partition and mediacentre partition as my original hd. I have a new SATA hd which is currently connected in a USB enclosure. I am not a hd or filesystem expert and don't want to spend a year studying the goodells website.
I own a vaio Z620d and I'm trying to do a clean install of windows vista business. I downloaded all the latest drivers and utilities from sony support site but whenever I finished installing the Sony utilities, I'd get this error complaining about my battery is not supported/authenticate. Even though the battery is the sony one from the box itself!
I know that you can prevent the ISBMgr from launching in the msconfig, but I do not want to do that. As I read from a post that the ISB utility controls the FN Keys and Eject Button.
Sony Z series 32bit Vista Clean Install Guide (full functions & no windows activation)
I've been searching around for Sony's Wireless Switch Settings Utility for my vaio z26gn, the Sony site doesn't seem to have them. Where can I download this utility?
