i bought a new hard drive, and it has a load of space i will not use, so was thinking of adding both the recovery partition and diagnostics partition, But have some questions of how i would even do that. First, what would i do, just create a couple of blank partitions?
View 5 Repliesmy laptop has failed the hard drive diagnostic with an error code of 2000-0142, and looking here in the forum I see it means that I should replace the hard drive. That being said, I am not actually having any problems with my computer. I ran the f12 diagnostic after a routine scan notified me of a smart short test fail and it came up on the diagnostic as well. Does that mean that at any moment I would actually see something happen?

What are these partitions? Is it safe to delete them? If I delete them, can I restore them back again? How can I backup, if possible, these partitions to CD or DVD before deleting them
I have a Dell Latitude E6410. I recently installed created a linux partition on my HDD but was not interested in keeping it. Anyway after I uninstalled this OS, the space allocated to it on the HDD was turned into unallocated space. I have been unable to merge it with my primary partition. What I wanted to ask was that if I perform a reinstall of my original OS(Windows 7 Professional), will I be able to recover the original partitions and how can it be done?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI use latitude E5530 Now, which have two hidden partition, one is no name, and it is 39MB and it have 100% space didn't use, ( OEM partition). Another one is called Recovery and it as 752MB and it is NTFS format and in the brackets it says system, active, main partition.
So what is the function of those two partition?
Can I delete the recovery partition? cause I need change a hard drive and I will made a recovery image.
On a brand new Yoga 2 13 (500 GB hdd), when I check disk management, I see the following partitions:
1000 MB (has no volume label) "Healthy (recovery parition)"
260 MB (has no volume label) "Healthy (EFI System Partition)"
1000 MB (has no volume label) "Healthy (OEM Partition)"
Windows8_OS (C 424.26GB "Healthy (Boot, page ... " Lenovo (D 25.00 GB "Healthy (Primary Partition)" 14.17GB (has no volume label) "Healthy (Recovery Parition)" Except C: and C: all other paritions are listed as 100% free. i.e., they are empty.
Shouldn't these partitions contain recovery/boot data?
So. My notebook has an issue related to the screentouch. Lenovo's assistants says that if I have Windows 8 on my notebook. But I updated it to Windows 8.1. Now I need to downgrade to Windows 8 'till they fix my computer. I already have the Windows 8 DVDs, but before I downgrade I'd like to know:
1. I'll be able to use OKR to restore a backup of my current system, with all my software and settings?
2. I've partitioned my HD in order to keep personal stuff (media, data, documents) in D:, instead C:. OKR will erase the content of other partitions? Can I safely use it or D: can be affected?
I'm having a problem to install windows 7 pro on my Lenovo t440s ( that came with windows 8 ) using a memory stick.I went to the windows 7 installation menu and formatted the Windows 8 partition, so now I have :
Disk 0 Partition 1: WINRE_DRV 1GB OEM
Disk 0 Partition 2 : System_DRV 260MB System
Disk 0 Partition 3 128MB MSR
Disk 0 Unnallocated Space 225GB ( it was the old windows 8 partition )
Disk 0 Partition 4: Lenovo_Recory 12.1GB OEM
However, when i try to use the free space to install the windows 7 i get this error :" Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk is of the GPT partitions style. "
I tried to bot using Legacy Boot Only and after using UEFI/Legacy Boot and nothing changed, I'm still receiving the same error.I read that I have to select each of the partitions on the drive, and select Delete. Then the drive will show a single area of unallocated space that I should use to install windows.there is any problem in delete all my partitions of Lenovo T440s? Can I delete the OEM partitions?
I was just checking my wife's older HP Pavilion dv9628nr running Vista Home Premium with 2 HDD's. I didn't even know it had 2 HDD's. I opened the case to make sure.
Below is a screenshot of Disk Management for this system. I have some questions:
1. Why is there an OS partition on each HDD?
2. Are 2 needed and can one be deleted?
I forgot how to get to dell's diagnostic screen. I remember having to hold a button before I click the power button or something like that.

and after the memory test I "should" have had an option to "TEST SYSTEM" but instead I got a message saying "No diagnostic utility partion identified/found"
I was wondering how much you are into the diagnostic beeps our Dells now and then are providing.
A friend of mine used an external multi battery (suitable for other devices and laptops) devicee to charge her laptop (I believe it had something to do with solar energy..?) That didn't work out so well and afterwards the laptop smelled after burning rubber.
She handed it over to me but so far I didn't find out what the sound means. I read through the official service manual. The only suggestion I am getting is that I should contact a service provider. However, that does not seem to be most cheap solution.

I have an HP Pavillion model 17-e019dx running Windows 8. Every time I turn it on, it stops at a blue screen that says

A required device isn't connected or cannot be accessed
Error code 0xc000000f
When I press enter to "Try again" it come back with:
File:WindowsSystem32winload.efi above the error code listed above.
I have tried the Recovery and after MUCH time waiting, it still comes back to the above mentioned screen. I have also run all the diagnostics that are available on the laptop and everything come back normal. I don't have the original discs or documentation as I "received this laptop as a "gift/curse" . It is, however, registered to me.

I purchased a Pavilion g7 laptop in December 2012. The 1TB HDD that came with the laptop started to go bad on me. After several attempts to 'system self-repair' (which failed) I purchased a replacement Seagate SSHD 1TB HD. Since I did not have any Windows 8 recovery discs I contacted HP, paid for and had them sent to me.
So now I have a new SSHD, new W8 recovery discs and my laptop. I replaced the HD and started the recovery process per the paper instructions that came with the discs.
At 4% (in the 'Copying files required to restore the hard drive phase') I get an error message:

To: C:/RM/Image/BASE14.SWM
Press OK to retry.
Obviously since I'm posting about this simply pressing 'OK to retry' did not work. I powered the laptop down and restarted the recovery process. I got the same error message at the same point described above.
cant run launch diagnostic download. Today when I opened laptop from "hibernate" I got a blue screen that said "windows crash dump". My security is updated and running. Doesn't look like anything has happened. Who do I contact for this?

This has failed and I am now stuck in a loop!
My HP pavilion is stuck on diagnosing PC problems- attempting solution loop after initiatin the automatic pc repair.

I searched on the net that removing the battery and waiting may work but it didn't.
I have an Inspiron 1750 that will not recognize the hard drive. I have done the on-board diagnostics and the preboot assessment says that no diagnostic utility partition identified. I am hoping that I just need to replace the hard drive, but I did not make a restore disc before it crashed. Which of the drivers I need to restore the computer to it's factory settings.

“Operating System Recovery Options: no media”.
It also says: "Dell Backup and Recovery: Dell Backup and Recovery Basic"
I think this means that I will not get a recovery disk along with the system.

I need to select a new laptop for work. My company allows Dell only.
Currently, I have a Dell Latitude D610. (yes time to upgrade).
I travel often. Therefore, weight is a factor. I'm not sure if I should go with the 14" or 15" screen. My current 14" seems OK. I need a laptop where I can use a port replicator. I believe that this limits my choices. Some of the models I like from a design standpoint don't seem to offer this.

I couldn't really figure out what the difference is between the E5x and E6x.
I have owned a Dell Latitude D620 for the last few years. Lately, i have realized that my 9-cell battery is only charging to 84% (4 weeks old), and it only gets about 1.50 hours on full charge.
Also, at random intervals, the LCD screen flickers and becomes blurry. All settings are default and there have been no modifications, here is my computer information.

I have a Latitude E6420, and i can't for the life of me get it to work. There is absolutely no life, and the battery and power lights don't light up with the ac adapter connected. I've tried taking out the battery and connecting the ac, no change. Won't work.

When talking with the telephone sales agent at Dell, she told me the two adaptors are not compatible, yet both are PA-12, 65W, 19.5v, 3.34A. the only difference, is the old one is 2-pin and the new one is 3-pin. Is she blowing smoke at me?
I also have an off-brand "universal" audo/air/AC adaptor for the old computer that's, 90W, 19v, 2.7A that was listed as compatible with the D630. Are these all compatible with each other?
I can't see the screen !!!!!
