View 15 RepliesNow heres just the question my sister's comp was recently replace with a studio xps 13 that was loaded with 8gb of ram now the question is whether i should format and install 32bit into the system or 64bit?
i understand 32bit windows can only use up to 4gb while 64bit windows can utilize over 4gb. It seems that the clear advantage would be using windows 64bit since it has 8gb of ram.
Wondering if anyone has any opinion to this? In using 32bit instead?
This took me a long time to find out... Read my post here to save yourself the time and just "make it work"!

I'm currently thinking about installing windows 7 64bit instead of vista 32bit, which I am running atm.
Partly to get use of all 4gb and partly cause I've heard good stuff about windows 7, at least compared to vista, which is utter *beeep*.
My questions is now - where do I find compatible drivers for windows 7 64 bit.
My laptop is as the thread name reveals a Dell xps m1530.
I am designer and use Photoshop more .
If i use xp 64bit the performance improve or don`t improve?
Is there xp 64bit driver for 1530 ?
I just upgraded the memory in my XPS M1330 to 4GB, so if I choose to I can now go from 32bit to 64bit Vista. It came with 32bit Vista Home Premium, but I have a 64 bit Vista Ultimate upgrade disc. Is it possible to upgrade from 32 bit Vista Home Premium to 64bit Vista Ultimate, or do I have to have a full 64 bit Vista Ultimate disc? And one last thing, is there really a big difference in performance going from 32bit to 64bit? I don't do anything very intensive with it, but if it makes everything seen snappier than.......

I was browsing some thread and i read about x64 and x32.
A couple of months ago i bought a 5920G
4GB DDR2
250GB HDD
Centrino Core 2 Duo T8300 @ 2.4Ghz
256MB GeForece 8600m gs
it has Vista Home premium preloaded 32Bit.
I'm waiting win7 to come out but i need some advices and ideas about changing from x32 to x64.
Is this a good idea? Will 4GB ddr used fully by x64 systems instead of 3GB limitation in x32, and will my pc boot and work faster?
Is true about x64 instability or a lot of issues and incompatibility with devices and apps?
I have a hp with 32bit vista ult. Can I upgrade to 64bit with an hp oem disk with no problem? I work for dell and we upgrade people everyday. But I never upgraded anyone to 64 from 32bit.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have sony VGN-Z591U with 32bit OS
Is there any possible way to upgrade my OS from 32 bit to 64 bit on my laptop?
I have check the sony website and they have no driver for 64bit (only 32 bit).
If I take the 64bit driver from different model e.g. VGN-Z690, because they have 64-bit driver. Will it work with my laptop?
I want to put Win7 on my macbook pro and plan to use it with VMWare 3 as well as for dual booting. Is it better to go with the 32bit or the 64bit version of Win7.
Im running snow leopard on the macbook now... i know Apple isnt officially supporting win7 until later this year but has anyone else had any problems running Win7 under bootcamp on snow leopard?
I have recently bought acer aspire 6920 with vista home premium (OEM) preinstalled 64bit version. I have made recovery dvd discs from erecovery option for factory defaults.
I have two questions:
1: will Acer provide recovery discs free of cost if requested.
2: Will I be able to install vista home premium 32bit version on D drive from a retail version I have, side by side with 64bit on C drive. Shall be thankful if someone can clarify with procedure for item 2 since I am not very familiar with notebooks working.
I was wondering if my Acer upgrade W7 Home premium 32bit key would activate a downloaded W7 Home Premium 64bit iso. (I have su9400 processor, so can run 64bit).
Acer claims its upgrade won't support this, but I'd be interested to find out if anybody has managed it.
Installed Windows 7 as my main OS yesterday. Its a beta 1 but its a lot better than Vista in every way possible (supports the 185.20 Nvidia beta driver).

If so how do I get one?
I want to give Windows 7 a try on my 1737 right now it runs excellent and super fast on the Core 2 Duo T9400 6MB cache 1066 FSB and ATI 3650.
So everyone says Windows 7 Beta is even faster, than Vista I want to see this first hand.
I have a acer 6920G Gemstone, I have installed windows 7 beta but cannot get the touch panel or the empowering technologies button to work at all.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd give it a world. Xp and Vista run just great on my 2.53 Unibody Macbook Pro.
Not 7 though. Installation went just great, so did the Boot Camp drivers. No errors, no nothing, it was perfect.
Until I tried to hook up my Razer Pro|Click Mobile bluetooth mouse. W7 tried to connect to Windows Update, because it couldn't see the mouse at all. By default, 7 configures the computer to NOT BE discoverable. I unchecked the little tick box and again, tried to hook up the mouse.
It didn't work. Then I figured I'd take my dad's Microsoft USB Mouse. Your generic Microsoft USB mouse, right? Wrong. Windows 7 wants to connect to Windows Update to search for drivers. For an USB mouse? Made by Microsoft? So I let it, it searches Windows Update for 10-15 minutes, to find nothing.
I tried my external HDD through USB and it worked just fine. So it wasn't an Apple drivers thing with the USB.
So no Microsoft generic mouse. Okay, I found a really old LG mouse, still USB, plugged it in, next second, ZOMG I HAZ A MAUS. The crappy old LG mouse worked like a charm.
Okay, next issue: external display. I hook up my 22" LG W2234S. W7 mirrors the two screens. My external resolution is 1680x1050 though. I mess around in W7's display settings and when I hit "apply" after changing the setting from "mirror" to "dual-display", my LG goes into sleep mode. WTH? And now there's no more LG display in my list. W7 can not see my external display anymore............
after i do install the windows 7 rc i plan on giving my mother this macbook in mid july. I plan on doing a full system restore. bAsically whipe out the entire HD and reinstall os x. If i do this will it wipe out my w7rc? i would like her to have a good amount of HD space and dont want the RC on here at all when i do it.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI just want to have some programs like Windows Live Mail and MSN Messenger on my mac since they are WAY easier to use on windows (Especially the brand new 2009 versions!!!!)
So a couple question for you guys:
-How do I install Windows 7 Beta on my MacBook? (Which Virtualization Software is the best? VMware vs Parallels seem to be famous)
-How long will Windows 7 Beta last before its closed? (usually a couple months between closing and release)
-How much battery power will this setup suck up?
-Anybody already doing this?
I never got around to installing the Windows 7 beta image, but now I have no idea where I saved it on my MacBook Pro. I definitely did download it. What were the names for the 64-bit downloader (I forget if there was a downloader or how I downloaded it, it was official from Microsoft's site, though) and the 64-bit Windows 7 image? It'd be good to clear up a few GBs from my HD.

I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.

I have one remaining unknown device under USB controllers and i am trying to figure out what it belongs to. my webcam works (although i think its listed as usb input device), and parser device, i/o device and texas mem stick have all been installed. i have also noticed that my fingerprint reader says that it is not connected when im first booting into windows although it works properly. could this unknown device have something to do with the reader?
