Apple :: Installing Windows 7 Beta On Am Using Virtual Box
Jun 6, 2009
after i do install the windows 7 rc i plan on giving my mother this macbook in mid july. I plan on doing a full system restore. bAsically whipe out the entire HD and reinstall os x. If i do this will it wipe out my w7rc? i would like her to have a good amount of HD space and dont want the RC on here at all when i do it.
I thought I'd give it a world. Xp and Vista run just great on my 2.53 Unibody Macbook Pro.
Not 7 though. Installation went just great, so did the Boot Camp drivers. No errors, no nothing, it was perfect.
Until I tried to hook up my Razer Pro|Click Mobile bluetooth mouse. W7 tried to connect to Windows Update, because it couldn't see the mouse at all. By default, 7 configures the computer to NOT BE discoverable. I unchecked the little tick box and again, tried to hook up the mouse.
It didn't work. Then I figured I'd take my dad's Microsoft USB Mouse. Your generic Microsoft USB mouse, right? Wrong. Windows 7 wants to connect to Windows Update to search for drivers. For an USB mouse? Made by Microsoft? So I let it, it searches Windows Update for 10-15 minutes, to find nothing.
I tried my external HDD through USB and it worked just fine. So it wasn't an Apple drivers thing with the USB.
So no Microsoft generic mouse. Okay, I found a really old LG mouse, still USB, plugged it in, next second, ZOMG I HAZ A MAUS. The crappy old LG mouse worked like a charm.
Okay, next issue: external display. I hook up my 22" LG W2234S. W7 mirrors the two screens. My external resolution is 1680x1050 though. I mess around in W7's display settings and when I hit "apply" after changing the setting from "mirror" to "dual-display", my LG goes into sleep mode. WTH? And now there's no more LG display in my list. W7 can not see my external display anymore............
I just want to have some programs like Windows Live Mail and MSN Messenger on my mac since they are WAY easier to use on windows (Especially the brand new 2009 versions!!!!)
So a couple question for you guys:
-How do I install Windows 7 Beta on my MacBook? (Which Virtualization Software is the best? VMware vs Parallels seem to be famous)
-How long will Windows 7 Beta last before its closed? (usually a couple months between closing and release)
I never got around to installing the Windows 7 beta image, but now I have no idea where I saved it on my MacBook Pro. I definitely did download it. What were the names for the 64-bit downloader (I forget if there was a downloader or how I downloaded it, it was official from Microsoft's site, though) and the 64-bit Windows 7 image? It'd be good to clear up a few GBs from my HD.
I use my boot camp partition in Vmware. How do I make a bootable copy of that? I want to know because in Boot camp I'm gonna install Windows 7, but I might still need XP so I was thinking about using Vmware for that.
The only catch is this: in the fall, I'll be entering college as a mechanical engineering freshman, which basically screams "PC, PC!" However, now, with the advent of Bootcamp, Mac has become a plausible option for me.
I've really been looking at the Dell XPS M1330 and the 2.26GHz 13" MacBook Pro. My max budget is $1200, but, if I did my basic math right, I can get both of these around $800-900, which will make my parents happy.
I'm a big fan of OS X. I dig the simplistic and intuitive feel. I also enjoy the rigidity of the new-ish aluminum enclosures, especially when compared to the laptop I'm using now. However, I am familiar with XP after having used it for most of my computing experiences since junior high and onwards. 7 also looks like a very promising operating system.
I hear that Windows on a Mac machine runs pretty smoothly. However, the glitches I've read about do worry me: missing/lacking mouse drivers and lack of power management (also related to overheating ). VMWare and Parallels are also viable options, but I feel like it'd make more sense for me to run engineering applications natively on Windows.....
if you can run VMWare or Parallels off of a bootcamp drive, however I CAN'T afford to buy that. So instead I got Virtual Box. Now virtual Box wasn't in the stickies so I think this should be ok to discuss, if not please feel free to delete it Mods. Anyway, I can't figure out how to get the Virtual Box to load from my Bootcamp drive. Anyone else use this and know what to do? I dont want to have to delete that partition or create a new one just to use VB. I don't have a large enough Hard Drive.
Many Acer notebook do have an Intel CPU which is VT-capable. However Acer does not enable this. The last BIOS versions doesnt give an option to switch it on.
Now Windows 7 has an XP-modus which require VT-technology the time is come for ACER to enable the VT-bit in the BIOS for the 7720 (and proberbly more).
I used boot camp a few days ago without having my vista ultimate yet and I partitioned the hardrive in half then this morning I tried installing windows as said in this forum as to use the assistant in boot camp and I got to the part where it said where would you like to install the OS, they gave 4 different options and only one would have been enough space to put a partition so I figured I could delete the other partitions and see but now it left me with only 1 full HD , the other problem with this is the CD won't eject and keeps wanting to install the windows on the full partition , anyone know how to eject the cd any commands ? so maybe I could boot back to OSX
I know this isn't a cell phone forum but it IS the Apple sub-section so I don't know for a more suitable spot for it.
Anyone have the iPhone 3.0 OS up and running? I just downloaded it a couple of minutes ago and am installing it right now on my iPod Touch to play around with. I'm not sure I want to load it on my phone yet because it states it is impossible (or difficult) to go from 3.0 back to 2.2.1. I am interested in some of the phone features but I believe I will wait for the actual release.
More hits than misses in my opinion but still one feature that I wanted to become built into the "phone" page was voice dialing. Third party apps technically get the job done but I don't want to go scrolling through apps trying to find it. Landscape texting and MMS were my favorite of the announced features.
I know that the modded INFs from laptopvideo2go have supported this, but the latest beta drivers released today from nVidia actually support the 9400M out of the box.
These drivers support the screen brightness controls (I had probs with this using the modded drivers) AND more importantly I can now use an external monitor and resume from sleep mode. The Apple drivers would not resume after the video card turned the external monitor off.
Installed Windows 7 as my main OS yesterday. Its a beta 1 but its a lot better than Vista in every way possible (supports the 185.20 Nvidia beta driver).
I have got both 64 bit & 32 bit each burned to a bootable disc. But, before I even try, do I need some type of a product key to play around with the public release beta?
I can't seem to change the brightness level in Speed Mode, be it through Fn keys or Power Option on the laptop. I've tried disabling UAC and running VESMgr.exe and VESMgrSub.exe as administrators. And still can't alter the brightness level. Everything else works, just the brightness option won't work in Speed Mode. Stamina Mode works flawlessly, giving me the option the change the brightness level how I want.
From last few weeks, I am facing a problem, I am unable to hear the sound, once I open the laptop, I can hear the sound for few minutes after that their is no sound, I am using (hp envy beta) window 8.
I have brought a new dell studio 1435 laptop and they provided me with default windows vista home premiun OS.
I have installed windows XP professional OS after changing the BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS:
Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA)
Can i will be able to install the windows vista OS after installing windows Xp with the same BIOS settings for onboard devices (In BIOS: Onboard Devices -> Flash Cache Module -> Set Off Onboard Devices -> SATA Operation -> Set ATA)
I use Office:Mac 2008, and I'm not a fan. But it's better than OpenOffice/NeoOffice (imo), and while I like a lot about iWork, the occasional small incompatibility -- and the fact that saving as .docx as default is troublesome -- is irritating.
For those of you who have been Mac users since Office '08 was released, I'm just curious as to whether there's a reason to expect that we might see a public beta put out by Microsoft in the coming few months -- long before this Fall/Winter 2010 release or whenever it's supposed to be -- so we can get cracking on that.
The hard drive on my Aspire 5745 was replaced (same size 640 GB) when I install Windows, it hangs on the Windows logo as its swirling and about to start. I have checked in the BIOS to disable UEFI boot but unable to see this option.
I have an E6400 running Vista 64. I've got a virtual PC running Windows XP on that. I'd like the virtual PC to be able to access the Embedded WWAN card, but I'm not having much luck.
The Dell (XP version) of the software does not install on the Virtual PC, claiming the system is not a Dell.
I found a generic copy of VZ Access Manager from Verizon, but that one says the WWAN card is turned off, although the switch is set to on and its not disabled in Vista.
I can not use Virtual PC because, although the CPU has VT support, Sony did purposely not include the option to enable it in the BIOS (a well known issue).
Are there any options to get Virtual PC running on my laptop (maybe an older version or a workaround)? Or are there any *free* alternatives to Virtual PC which will run on Win 7 even without VT being enabled? Any options?
How can I have a virtual PC running in Win 7 on a Vaio Z12?
Many of the newer more demanding games require that a certain amount of RAM is virtually dedicated to your graphics card, and after hours of trying to figure out how to do that I came up empty. On most desktops and some laptops you can go into the BIOS and change it, but not on the HP Envy 17t (Tried updating BIOS). I'm really not sure how much of a difference it would make for gameplay, but considering how I have an extra 11 gb of RAM when I'm rarely using more than 4 gigs it'd be nice to be able to put some of it to use. There's also a few games I want to play that require a minimum amount to even be launched at all (COD: AW).
