Have Extensa 4420. Been unable to restore old Vista OS so decided to move up to Win 7 32 bit. Started the install from DVD but got error message that I could not install on the system partition as it was "reserved" by Acer. This is half of the HDD.

I'm having trouble upgrading from Vista to windows 7. I have purchased a legal copy of 32 bit windows 7 home premium, same version a Vista.
I tried the update instal to preserve my programs & settings. I got an error and system reverted back to Vista.
I then tried a boot, fresh install. The windows disk loaded , but I ended up with Blue Screen of Death.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers for the the Extensa 4420 from Acer's site. Is there a special version required for the 4420?
This is a laptop without Recovery Discs, where the original drive partitions were erased and reformatted as 1 big partition. During Vista installation, it always reboots just as Vista is on the verge of "Completing Installation". So near and yet so far. The BIOS shows the hard drive as an IDE drive - even though this is clearly a SATA drive. Is this a driver problem? Do I need to load SATA drivers before having Vista go through the installation?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have the extensa 4420, today I was in class and I was just typing notes and I noticed that my cooling fan was quite noticable so I turned the fan always on function to "off" and the fan turned off and it was nice and quiet. i watched the temps hover around 38 but when the temps hit 41 (according to NHC) the fan kicked in at a good low speed. the NHC was setting the CPU to stay at 800mhz per core so I was wondering if that is a good temp? I have experience in using thermal paste, would that help lower the temps enough to stay under 41 degrees?

I have an extensa 4420. just recently moved into a home where the internet and utilities were already setup. They have a linksys wireless router. WRT54G they have a network and a password. When i enter this into my e-net management screen it doesnt work it asks me for a WEP key but i do not have the WEP key nor do the owners of the home. Is there any way possible i can enter the password to connect or set something differently?

I was thinking of increasing RAM to 4gb. What I am trying to do is watch video, for example, tv programs on Hulu and what I get now is choppy picture and freezing.
Would increasing RAM to the max of 4gb correct this or not?
I recently pruchased an Acer Extensa 4420 and converted from VISTA to XP. I am having problems with installing the video driver. I down loaded the video driver from ACER's web site but it will not install. I had to down load the wireless driver from Dell and I was wondering if there was a similar trick for the video driver.

The hard drive is working and the CPU runs at a 100% when they are connected.
I have wiped out Vista from this machine and installed XP Professional. All have been installed fine except Wireless and Display drivers. I got wireless driver from gateway and it worked great.
I have done every thing as outlined in different threads on this forum and all other resources including acer north america and europe sites to install display driver but i still keep on getting the "set up did not find a driver compatible with your hardware or operating system" error.
The display driver specified on the sticker is 896 MB ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 Hyper Memory.
I am able to install the "SMBUS v.5.10.1000.6" from acer europe site without any problem.
I have upgraded the BIOS also to v1.18 from v1.17.
All the rest of the drivers i am able to install from the Vista Application and Driver back up DVD including the webcam that i created before taking out vista.
This machine is AMD Athelon 64X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57.
my Acer Extensa 4420. A few days ago while on my laptop the BSOD suddenly popped up and my laptop shut down. A restarted it and while it did log in, I got notices saying a lot of stuff was corrupt. I ran chkdsk to see if i could diagnose the issue, and it stated the system volume was corrupt. As time went by using windows became erratic. I decided to try to restore my acer back to factory settings using the eRecovery program. This program would stop working every time right before the process began. Eventually windows stopped booting up at all. leaving my at a boot screen the endlessly looped. I installed Ubuntu shortly after, and managed to get my PQSERVICE partition recognized by the GRUB bootloader and Ubuntu itself (as a mounted drive). The problem is that whenever I do boot to the PQSERVICE partition and look through the options in the recovery center, there is no restore to factory default settings.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have been looking for the bluetooth drivers for my Acer Extensa 4420-5910 for a week with no luck. I believe they are Broadcom drivers but I am not sure. None of the drivers on Acer's website work. Broadcom's download page is also down. Driverguide does not appear to have them either. Acer doesn't have a "Parts List" for this laptop so they cannot tell me exactly what bluetooth drivers I will need, and unfortunately I am not about to crack a new laptop open to find out. At the minimum if someone could just tell me what the name of the correct driver is I would be satisfied. This is for 32-bit Vista.

Im new to PC's [been a mac user for years] and this is confusing me.
The laptop has 2 partitions - C: and D:
Vista is on C: so i installed xp on D:
It appears that i can now only access XP and cannot ever boot into vista off C: is that true?
Also, when running XP i have no internet via the ethernet cable nor the wireless card that comes with this laptop. Can someone explain what drivers i need to install to make those work?
I got the Extensa_4200 driver folder off the website, but i am clueless as to which need to be installed - as im new to PC.

I have successfully figured out the audio and video drivers but now i need the internet and wireless to work.
I purchased the factory "Recovery" CDs. The problem is they will not recover the system.
Also on a 2nd HD I find that the Acer program eRecovery will no longer run.
This appears that Acer sels computers and doesn't provide the software needed to do basic recovery actions we could do under W-95
Acer will also sell you a "Recovery" CD sets that do not actually allow you to recover your system so you have a functioning PC.

Every time I start up my Extensa 4420, I get the following error message window:
"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your adapter using the Displays Manager."
Why is this happening? If I go into the device manager, it says that the graphics adapter is working. If I tell it to check for updated drivers it says that the driver I have installed is the most current one. Everything seems to work fine on the computer. How can I stop the message from popping up every time?

was instructed to wipe Vista Basic from a friend's brand new Acer Extensa 5210 and install XP Pro. I told him that his warranty might fall over but he insisted.
So I wiped his hard drive (80gb SATA) and started to install XP Pro. I installed the correct SATA controller drivers from a USB floppy drive (there's no inbuilt floppy drive in the Acer) and all seemed to go well.
But after Windows finished copying files and I hit Enter (following the prompt "Hit Enter to start installing Windows"), the next screen said something like "...can't find any hard drives, hit F3 to abort".

I notice that the site provides an XP BIOS (1.02) whereas the native BIOS loaded in the laptop is for Vista, 1.07.
Perhaps the problem might go away if I installed the XP BIOS?
I installed Windows XP 64 bit on my extensa 5420 and I've been finding it really hard to just access wireless LAN. I downloaded the drivers off of the website link in the other thread about extensa 5420. After installing those drivers, nothing happened because it couldn't detect my wireless adapter. The only network adapter detected is the 1394 net adapter. Under other devices (question signs next to them) are : Audio Device, Ethernet Controller, Mass Storage Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Network Controller, SM Bus Controller.
How do I get LAN and wireless LAN to work? I love having windows xp 64 bit.

I just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 and the hard drive is wiped. I have the restore disks but when I try to restore it I get a message that it can not find the storage device.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI had to buy the recovery disk for my Aspire V5, when I start I change the bios to UEFI with secure enabled, then I use the disk Recovery System, once that I´m in the Acer Console Management, and I Selected the restore full, a pop up came with the message "Please Change your bios to Legacy¨ so I click on the exit button, and I enter to the bios and select the legacy mode, then the acer console management starts and says that the systems recovery fails because this is only for UEFI mode. So I dont know what to do, I have another 4 disk for the recovery but none of this is a booteable disk. Also I tried with UEFI and boot secure disable and same result .

I posses a dell 9400/e1705. Currently I have 2GB of RAM installed (in one piece). I was thinking of installing an additional 2GB. I was wondering if there is any sense in doing so.
First of all I have 32bit system, so the whole amount (4GB) will not be recognized. Secondly I am unsure if I will notice any increasement in performance. I mainly use the computer for photo retouch in Photoshop (I operate on big RAW files) and sometimes I install games.
A friend of mine said this would a good idea beacause even though the system will not see 4GB the chipset will allow the two memories to work in dual channel (If i were to add just 1GB I would have a total of 3GB but no dual channel).
My acer 5100 came with vista and I'm trying to do a fresh install of XP SP2 on it.
After I get past the partitioning part in the install process, it goes on to the "installing windows" stage and shuts off midway. This has been happening a few times and after some googling, reckoned it has to do with the SATA hard drive.
I tried to get on Bios and change the SATA to IDE but I didnt find any modifiable property for the hard drive on BIOS
I'm wondering some of you folks who installed XP on a vista laptop got it done.
