Dec 12, 2008I just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 and the hard drive is wiped. I have the restore disks but when I try to restore it I get a message that it can not find the storage device.

Feb 11, 2008I have an Acer Extensa 5420 or 5420-5687 and i have a question about bluetooth function.
When I pull the Bluetooth "button" to the right, a message appears in the screen saying "No Bluetooth Device". What does that means? That the laptop dont have the thing that picks up the bluetooth signal from the other devices or that it have the thing that picks up the signal but didnt found any signal?

Feb 12, 2009I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop - the plan is to add 2GB of RAM (for 4GB total) and swapping in a larger HD (the 160GB is getting full, and I haven't swapped my music libary over yet...)
My questions are:
-anyone know where I can find a free service manual for either the 5420 series laptops or something similar? I've found a few online, but all want payment , and I'd like to have an idea what's involved before taking a screwdriver to the laptop
- if I swap in a larger HD, can I use the Acer restore disk I created as soon as I powered the laptop up, or should I create another and restore from that? Or, most likely, is it a case that if I swap in a new HD I've got to re-install from scratch (with no Vista disk from Acer)?

Apr 24, 2008just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop (used no warranty), added a new hdd and plugged in and I get nothing, the battery light does not light up, I swapped power supplies with my 5102wlmi and I still get nothing, no lights no nothing I have a feeling I know where this is going which might be the trash bin, but I thought I might ask if there is something I should be looking for. I have tried holding the power button without a battery and all that neat stuff. The battery charge light does not come on at all, its been plugged in for about an hour now and I get nothing.......

Sep 23, 2014I had to buy the recovery disk for my Aspire V5, when I start I change the bios to UEFI with secure enabled, then I use the disk Recovery System, once that I´m in the Acer Console Management, and I Selected the restore full, a pop up came with the message "Please Change your bios to Legacy¨ so I click on the exit button, and I enter to the bios and select the legacy mode, then the acer console management starts and says that the systems recovery fails because this is only for UEFI mode. So I dont know what to do, I have another 4 disk for the recovery but none of this is a booteable disk. Also I tried with UEFI and boot secure disable and same result .

Oct 12, 2014Have Extensa 4420. Been unable to restore old Vista OS so decided to move up to Win 7 32 bit. Started the install from DVD but got error message that I could not install on the system partition as it was "reserved" by Acer. This is half of the HDD.

Sep 24, 2014I have tried to restore laptop to oringal factory settings using Gateway Recovery Management disks purchased from Gateway. I have booted from System Disk (1 of 4) which ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 1 which loaded files (100%). Recovery Disk 1 ejected and instructed me to insert Recovery Disk 2 which also loaded files (100%). Then a "Restore Progress"window opened and and the process progressed to 79% and gave the following error messages: "WIMApplyImage fail. Error0x570" and "Fail to Restore Image".
Prior to attempting the Restore process, all I get when I start the Gateway NV59C laptop is the following screen:

Aug 27, 2014Pavilion G6-SS40SA running Windows 8. I am working on this computer for a friend. Somehow, he managed to get an app on there which ran at startup and resulted in it slowing down internet access to a crawl as well as making the machine virtually unusable . In an effort to get rid of it, he attempted running restore. However, neither destructive or non-destructive options would work. He was getting error messages - firstly 'Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing', followed by 'The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again'. I managed to locate the program that was causing the problem, and uninstalled it. He asked me to reset the computer to factory state, but unfortunately, this will not work - it starts up, warns that all data will be lost and I confirm that I want to proceed. It then appears to start the process, but almost immediately ends shows a message saying that no changes have been made. Where do I go from here?

The other options are Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low resolution video, Last known good configuration ( advanced), Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, disable driver signature enforcement and start windows normally.
The only disks which came with the laptop ( bought new) were For reinstalling Cyberlink Power DVD DX8.3 Software for Microsoft Windows 7, P/N 5RMCO Rev A00 and For reinstalling Dell Webcam Central Software...

Feb 19, 2013I got a brand new VOSTRO 3660 with x3 USB 3.0, and since it has no CD/DVD my only option of creating Factory Recovery Image with DataSafe is thrught USB
which is USB 3.0.
I have done some digging before posting, and I understood that I had to enter to the bios and change USB debug Mode to Enable in order to make it work as USB 2.0 (Disable USB 3.0 functionality to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash Drive).
thing is that I tried that several thing to recover the windows 7, deleted the usb flash drive and made several copies and in the end of it I always get to a screen which tells me that "if you are trying to restore your pc from usb 3.0 ................change to a different usb port " .

Feb 14, 2009I need to use an old GW Basic program on my Acer Extensa 5420 laptop. While I can run GW BAsic itself, problem arises when I try to invoke full screen mode within the program. I get an error message (on the Vista desktop, NOT from the Basic program) that says that this system does not support ful screen mode, and I have to cancel or ignore. If I remove the basic command to go to full screen, the program runs OK but in a small window that renders it basically useless. This same program runs fine on my older desktop with Windows XP. Is this a hardware limitation? Many (non-GW Basic) applications go to full screen no problem, like IE or Firefox, MS Office and so many more.

Apr 29, 2009I installed Windows XP 64 bit on my extensa 5420 and I've been finding it really hard to just access wireless LAN. I downloaded the drivers off of the website link in the other thread about extensa 5420. After installing those drivers, nothing happened because it couldn't detect my wireless adapter. The only network adapter detected is the 1394 net adapter. Under other devices (question signs next to them) are : Audio Device, Ethernet Controller, Mass Storage Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Network Controller, SM Bus Controller.
How do I get LAN and wireless LAN to work? I love having windows xp 64 bit.
Acer :: Extensa 5420 Graphics Upgrade
May 5, 2009I need to upgrade the graphics card on my Acer Extensa 5420 to something that is a lot more powerful then what the standard stock is. It is not even letting me play a game that was released in 2003 because the card is so bad. I am running on Vista and have 2GB or RAM, but am going to upgrade to 3 or 4 in the near future.
Also; my computer does not shut down, it goes in to stand by and dies on me. How can I shut it down? I have done all of the proper configuration so that it shuts down when it is told to... screenie provided as attachment

Dec 26, 2008I have an Acer Extensa 5420 and it came with Windows Vista (no recovery discs just 2 partitions with one recovery) which I wiped and installed Ubuntu onto. I went to install XP and the wireless card doesn't work.
I downloaded the driver from Acer's own site and it says that the card is ejected/not installed. I have no idea what to do and all acer is telling me to do is to redownload the same drivers and try again.

Graphics are supposedly at radeon HD 2400 XT, with 256megs of dedicated vram and the option to use regular ram as hypermemory.

Dec 12, 2008Plus the the Sound Manager is saying no Audio Output Device is installed AND all of a sudden ATI is saying I have to install new drivers but with no keyboard I cannot find the "display manager".
The only possible thing I can think of is that I added SW for a Sprint aircard right before all this happened bu that couldn't possibly be the cause of the problems could it?
Acer Extensa 5420 :: Will Not Boot With SSD Drive Installed
Sep 15, 2014I have upgraded the OS to Win 7 Home Premium, 32 bit, and had the hard drive upgraded to a 320 GB SATA drive. The system will boot flawlessly with the SATA drive installed, it will not boot with the 500Gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD drive installed.
When the power button is pressed the power light lights up, the hard drive activity light lights up, the CPU cooling fan comes on, the DVD drive light comes on and you hear a couple of clicks then it turns off.
Is there a special setting in BIOS that needs to be made or is this notebook simply unable to use an internal SSD drive?

Nov 6, 2008I bought an Acer Extensa 5420-5038 today, it cames with Vista Home 32 bits english version. As I am a brazilian, i formated it and instaled Vista Ultimate 64 bits Portugues version. The problem is, after the instalation, the wireless dont work anymore.
The light that usually flickes over it doesl not turn on, and it appears as an unknown network device on my hardware manager.
I've tried Atheros and Broadcom drivers from acer site but they didnt work and it told me the driver won't be installed because the appropriate card isn't installed....
In other words, it's telling me I dn't have an Atheros/Broadcom wireless card, but with the original instalatio of Vista it WAS working perfectly.

Mar 9, 2008Just to state first and foremost, this is not an issue I have. This is a preventative post for anyone that may ask down the line. (as I've seen it asked on multiple other forums.)
I had this issue with an inspiron 1720 I just got. It had an issue, so I installed vista from a Vista RTM disk. It didn't fix the problem in the end, so I sent it into dell and got fixed, but I wanted to a fresh restore from the restore partition because on restarts, I'd get the blue screen of Death. Fun stuff right?
Well, Unknowingly, when I installed vista off of the cd, that removed the ctrl+F11 option from the dell. This is stated on many forums, and it seems that most answers to this issue is to format and install a fresh install from cd again, or call dell and get recovery disks. I figured "Heck, If I still have the restore partition, there is not reason why I can't get it to restore with some effort."
Some other people I've seen have just had viral attacks, or just want to sell their laptop and need a fresh install. This is for those people that need it. The answer to the question of what if Control and F11 don't work.
So, Here I am with the fix. There is one required bit of software that's required, and that is simply a dos boot cd. You can find many iso's for dos on the net. All you have to do is burn a copy and boot from it. [EDIT] IMPORTANT: I was wrong about dos. As stated below ( http://www.notebookforums.com/post3049150.html ) you have to do it from a 32 bit environment. You can get through one in the XP repair console (on the install cd) or through one of the options in vista's setup.[/EDIT]
Ok, so this is going to be dumbed down a bit, and I'll explain what the dos commands do. First off, after booting into dos, you need to change to the restore partition. This isn't hard at all, all you do is type "D:" and press enter. After this, you need to find the restore file. This is a file with the extension of *.wim. This is an image of windows from dell factory.
Generally this file is found in d:dellimage and is called Factory.wim. Just to double check, I'm going to tell you to change the directory. Type in "cd dellimage" and press enter. In dos, CD means Change Directory (or enter a folder). Now, to list all of the files in the directory type in "dir" and press enter...............

Apr 23, 2013My laptop suddenly won't turn on.. when i pressed on, the lights are all on, but then screen got no response at all.. no dell logo. Not even light.. but i already tested the screen to see if there any problem with it by pressing D+on button, it passes the test. The screen seems to be ok.. then i tried to pull the RAM, put it back, turn on, same problem still happened..
