On my Compaq nc2400 laptop with Windows XP - msg: "Windows is unable to stat because the registry could not be updated..."
Its been a long faithful unit, but finally had to start over with a full system restore. Now can't get to Windows past this error msg.
I would like to buy a refurbished/used HP NC2400 (12.1" ultra portable), but that 1.2 GHz Core Solo or even Duo may not be enough.
What platform is the NC2400 running?
What is the thermal budget? and fastest type of CPU I can put in one?
My system has been running slower than when i first bought it. I wanna do a system restore but want to get rid of all the bloatware that comes when i first got my laptop.

It would go through the entire process, restart perfectly, then I would get the following error message: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer system files and settings are not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore." Obviously, a system restore utility that doesn't isn't much use.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI had to buy the recovery disk for my Aspire V5, when I start I change the bios to UEFI with secure enabled, then I use the disk Recovery System, once that I´m in the Acer Console Management, and I Selected the restore full, a pop up came with the message "Please Change your bios to Legacy¨ so I click on the exit button, and I enter to the bios and select the legacy mode, then the acer console management starts and says that the systems recovery fails because this is only for UEFI mode. So I dont know what to do, I have another 4 disk for the recovery but none of this is a booteable disk. Also I tried with UEFI and boot secure disable and same result .

Somehow, he managed to get an app on there which ran at startup and resulted in it slowing down internet access to a crawl as well as making the machine virtually unusable . In an effort to get rid of it, he attempted running restore. However, neither destructive or non-destructive options would work. He was getting error messages - firstly 'Unable to reset your PC. A required drive partition is missing', followed by 'The drive where Windows is installed is locked. Unlock the drive and try again'. I managed to locate the program that was causing the problem, and uninstalled it. He asked me to reset the computer to factory state, but unfortunately, this will not work - it starts up, warns that all data will be lost and I confirm that I want to proceed. It then appears to start the process, but almost immediately ends shows a message saying that no changes have been made. Where do I go from here?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis laptop has become very sluggish and I want to restore to factory default, however, contrary to the instructions on the website,when I press F8 I can get to a Advance Boot Options menu where there is an option to repair your computer but if I select this is takes me only back into Windows no "list of system recovery tools is given"....
The other options are Safe Mode, Safe Mode with networking, Safe mode with command prompt, Enable Boot Logging, Enable low resolution video, Last known good configuration ( advanced), Directory Services Restore Mode, Debugging mode, Disable automatic restart on system failure, disable driver signature enforcement and start windows normally.
The only disks which came with the laptop ( bought new) were For reinstalling Cyberlink Power DVD DX8.3 Software for Microsoft Windows 7, P/N 5RMCO Rev A00 and For reinstalling Dell Webcam Central Software...
I got a brand new VOSTRO 3660 with x3 USB 3.0, and since it has no CD/DVD my only option of creating Factory Recovery Image with DataSafe is thrught USB
which is USB 3.0.
I have done some digging before posting, and I understood that I had to enter to the bios and change USB debug Mode to Enable in order to make it work as USB 2.0 (Disable USB 3.0 functionality to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash Drive).
thing is that I tried that several thing to recover the windows 7, deleted the usb flash drive and made several copies and in the end of it I always get to a screen which tells me that "if you are trying to restore your pc from usb 3.0 ................change to a different usb port " .
Have Extensa 4420. Been unable to restore old Vista OS so decided to move up to Win 7 32 bit. Started the install from DVD but got error message that I could not install on the system partition as it was "reserved" by Acer. This is half of the HDD.

1)Drive C :Which has all the Windows files
2)Drive D: Which has other files
3)Drive E :Which has the Recovery files
So far I have enabled System Restore only for Drive C.
Is it advisable to enable System restore for Drives D and E also ?
Im particularly asking for Drive D as system restore eats lots of space if it is enabled in Drive D.
Are there any risks if system restore is not enabled for Drive D and E
I have a Aug 2006, Dell E1505, 1.83 ghz, 1 gb ram, ati 256 1400 etc etc + 80gb HDD (note) win XP & media center
for last three year never formatted my system, it was going good... recently some virus attack happend and it made my notebook verrrrrry slow, so i did the famous Ctrl + F11 !!
follow mark mck's bloatware removal, did a hdd defrag for non-c drive.
But my question is, even after everything the system is not running as fast it did in 2006
boot time is ~1min, shut down is 35 odd seconds...
So, my 2 cents say that after long usage, even if you do a factory restore DO NOT EXPECT a out of the factory hardware/speed, all u get is out of factory windows settings and bloatware ((
I am trying to get my Studio 15 to factory conditions but I am running into two BIG problems:
1) When I press F8, I get no option to "Repair Your System"
2) The Dell Vista reinstall disk does not have to option for OS Restore on it
I am planning to restore my laptop to its factory default because of some problems like the "Windows Update" window is all grayed out. I tried finding solutions in the net but it doesn't solve the problem so maybe system restore may do it but inst going to remove all the programs, like MS Office? I have created an Acronis Image for my PQService of about 8,5 GB and one for the other Hidden partition 3,5 GB - is this a CompaqSetup Diagnostic partition with ROM BIOS ? or is Acer Arcade-InstantOn ? cause I've seen it's name like CompaqSetup and in some utility program it's says about something with diagnostic.. I'm confused about this... and btw I have already created my Recovery DVD's.
So if I wipe my HDD, after it's all gone I can use my Acer recovery disks and reinstall Vista Ultimate and Restore PQservice and the other partition ? How do I restore my backed up partitions like PQservice and Acer Arcade if I don't have them already when I use Recovery Disks ?
I have a problem with my Dell laptop. I got a virus , and i don't even know what did it do. When i start my laptop it loads like it was before( it says big DELL and Inspiron,then progress bar and F2 Setup and F12 Boot options). After that loads i see this thing flashing _ . And then red text comes up and says something like " Your laptop was blocked because bla bla bla" and after that red text this thing _ flashing. Keyboard is blocked, nothing happens when i try to connect USB or my mouse. The only thing i can do on my laptop now is press F2 or F12 while Dell loads, before that red thing.

i have a quick question... i'm running an xps 1530 (first run) with a 2.2 dual core, 4gb ram, 7200 rpm drive, and the 8600 GT card.
i today ran a system restore to clean everything up, with a format. is that as good as a full format/reinstall of vista? it seems to be running pretty well.
my main question is this... i've gotten back into WoW, and i'm having some hitching running it on max settings... should i have that issue? i feel like this should completely destroy that game.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 (5547, Early 2014), Windows 7. Within a few days, the speed of operation dropped to glacial speeds. It would take 10-15 minutes to open programs.
I've run virus and malware scans and this has not fixed the problem. I intended to then restore the system to an earlier install point, but every time I do I get a windows error "System restore did no complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed". The text of the message indicates I shoud disable my anti-virus software, but when I disable it (MacAfee, live scan and firewall), I get the same message. I get the same message even if I restore from safe mode, with MacAfee disable.The real issue is the incredible slow operation.
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy mother's laptop had some issues, so I decided to completely restore the system. Restoration went through, however when it booted for the first time after restore, it gave me an error message that some file is missing or corrupted. I did second restoration...same problem but different file, tried 3rd time....same problems and different file.
I decided to do restoration without "value added" stuff, it went through, booted fine into windows vista, went through all the vista configurations, booted into Desktop. Desktop was all black, and right away I got the error message, something to do with "hardware shell".
Did hadware test - everything is fine.
Finally, I ordered restoration CDs directly from SONY.
First try using Sony's own CDs - error, file is missing or corrupted.2nd Try - same thing, 3rd try - same thing.
And finally, after multiple tries, it boots into Vista Green Background with small rotating circle (Vista's HourGlass). Nothing happens afterward.
It is Vaio VGN-CR120E, Vista 32-bit
I think I downloaded malware with a fake Java update I accidentally downloaded. I believe if I revert to an earlier date, I may solve my problem. I have an hp Probook 6555b using Windows 7.

My Acer Travelmate 2420 now fails to see the operating system. When I use the restore DVD that I had made it boots up and after a while the recovery runs. I hit a problem when the machine asks for disc 2 to continue the recovery. Only one disc was ever made during the back up session.
A few facts.
Before the OS failed Acer Recovery and other Acer Programs had started to not function.
The C: and D: drives where NTFS Formatted.
I have even considered cleaning the hard drive altogether and installing a new OS. The problem here is that I can't get into DOS Mode.
Due to what I thought were issues with SP1, I uninstalled it. Finding it not to be the case and that the uninstall left my machine somewhat "stuttery", I set it up for a system restore and went to bed. About eight hours later, I checked it and it was still restoring! I figured it had locked up (it's done this before) so I powered it off. Dumb move, I know.
Now, though, I try to start windows but it the screen gets stuck on black before it loads up the glowing windows logo. It will do the loading animation but that's it. I've tried loading Windows from CD but it doesn't make a difference. It loads the files with the DOS-like loading screen, then does the exact same thing.
I've also tried to get it to start in Safe Mode. I push the key to get there but the start-up selection screen only flashes before going right into loading Windows normally.
Please, I don't know what to do and I desperately need this machine to get anything done. It's just outside of warranty, so if there's any way for me to fix this myself I'd like to try.
Some things I've wondered about:
1) Is there a for sure way to get into the start-up selection screen?
2) Can I format the HDD with FDISK and then load windows from my vista cd and have it reinstall?
I've tried to restore system to factory default by pressing Ctrl+F11 in my XPS M1210. After confirmation to proceed I got the message: General failure error 36000.
I re-installed Windows XP but I'm having troubles with drivers not installed by the Windows re-install process.
How I can get the original system restore/recovery media for the above machine?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Dell XPS m1330, and I'm having problem to perform factory restore. At the moment I have windows server 2008 installed for testing purpose. When I tried to perform factory restore by running D:ToolsPCRestore.exe on the recovery partition, it fails when reformatting the harddrive (see screenshot below)
I then tried the other method by rebooting, and pressing F8 when dell logo appears. However I couldn't find a "System repair" menu in there.
Is there any other method I can try to perform factory restore?
