View 10 Repliesim not sure if i want a graphic card in it, as it would just eat battery life and i would get nothing much out of it, since i have no plans in gaming with it.
i will be, however massively watching movies, and streaming movies (99.9% of the web, not dvd player) would that need a dedicated graphic card?
i would also like to know which are the best in terms of :
price, screen quality, build quality, weight, which ones have the same keyboard, current known issues, and are they any rumors or known news of any updates of any of these models in the next 6 months worth waiting for?
ive also bought a m1330 a few months back, but since i had some issues with school, i had to return it and delay my purchase to this year.
the laptop was getting extremely hot, like not even possible to put on my lap kind-of hot. is that issue fixed?
I've followed the instructions for the system restore / format HD, but when I press F8, I do not get the option to restore etc...its just takes me back 'home' to the start up page.
I have all my reinstallation disks from purchase - is there any other method I can use? I need to reformat and restore ....
How to perform a Factory Restore, from the Restore Partition. I'm unable to boot the computer. into windows.
Last time I recall it was CTRL-11 upon boot, didn't work for me.
Windows 8 Pro
Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook
I am at that horrible stage of deciding on a new laptop after my brilliant yet flawed ibook decided to break, signaling the end of my relationship with anything mac.
I need a compact notebook for traveling (2 year overland trip starting in October - africa/mid east/asia). i have been looking at several 12-13" notebooks and i have come across the Dell.
While it is listed under the business market i think it might suit my needs. Primeraly i need to use photoshop and lightroom to manage my photography workflow,
write reports in word, browse the web wirelessly and (last but not least) play football manager while im sitting on trains and buses!
It seems that i can spec the dell with a T8100 dual core 2 processer (2.16 Ghz), 3mb cache, Nvidia video card, 3GB RAM and a 6 cell for around £550, which is pretty good considering the spec.
However coming from mac i really need some advice into whether or not this processing speed will be enough for me as i am not up to speed, i know that the centrino chips are better but with a sub £550 buget im just looking for the best i can get and i like the service that Dell gave my parents when they got a desktop from them
I am looking for a second small laptop. I was thinking netbook but now consider 13'. I noticed that the Vostro 1310 is $599 with very decent spec and Inspiron and XPS 13 are a few hundred more expensive.
I guess that's because the Vostro uses Morem CPU. If I go to Outlet, I can grab a Vostro 1310 for $4xx. If there is a coupon going on, the deal is even sweeter.
I know XPS 1310 has much better build quality but how about Vostro 1310 vs Inspiron 13, if I don't care about CPU difference?
i just bought a second hand
this day...
it was installed with a XP professional..
now i wanted to upgrade in WINDOW 7
but the problem cant run on the coppying part.
I recently purcahsed a vostro 1310 laptop. It's been absolutely great, except for one thing: the fan is incredibly annoying.
Once the processor reaches 45 degrees celsius, the fan kicks in, lowers it to 40, and then turns off. A few minutes later, the computer will go up to 45, and the fan will kick in again; so it goes through this loop of turning on and off, which is incredibly annoying.
Doing some more research, I've found that other people have also had this 'problem'. Undervolting and switching to powersaving mode solved the problem a bit, but once it hits 45, I still have the same problem.
I made a previous fan about the issue I had with Dell's managment of the fan settings. In an attempt to combat this, I thought I'd try installing a previous BIOS to see if it fixes the problem (perhaps there was an alternative fan managment setup).

I'm in the process of purchasing a Dell Vostro 1310 on behalf of a family member who's just started University (College)
I've configured the one we want into a shopping cart at the Dell Store. However, it only comes with Vista Home BASIC included. I can upgrade it via Dell to Business or Ultimate for a further $237. I would rather have Home PREMIUM but Dell does not offer that for Vostro as it's a "business" system. That's fine. But Home Basic is not suitable.
Here is what I'm planning and I want to run it past the experts here before going ahead.
* Purchase the Vostro 1310 from Dell with HOME BASIC included in the price.
* Purchase ULTIMATE UPGRADE for $80 from MS via offer for ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS at the itsnotcheating.com.au site.
* Take delivery of the laptop from Dell with HOME BASIC pre-installed
* Use the ULTIMATE UPGRADE to do an in-place upgrade of the the pre-installed Vista HOME BASIC to ULTIMATE...

My problem: about a month ago (maybe a little more) my machine automatically did an update, and after it was complete I was able to get to the sign in screen but once I was signed on I had nothing but a black screen and my cursor. I could not pull up the task manager or perform any functions. I was able to restore my machine to a previous date and used it again for about a week before the update ran again and the exact same thing happened. The second time around I did not have any restore points that were prior to the update so a system restore did absolutely no good. I booted in safe mode and tried to do a clean boot to see if something may have been preventing the update from completing properly but no luck.
Â
I then tried a system recovery and it failed, I don't recall what it said about why it failed but now all it does when I start it up is makes me choose a Keyboard layout and then choose an option between "Continue; exit and continue to HP Recovery Manager" "Use a Device" "Use another Operating system" "troubleshoot" and "turn off your PC."
I just bought a Vostro 3360 with Win 8.
I created a new partition using Win 8 Disk Management Tool (as shown here [URL] ..... )Â
When i turned it on again, i saw a message about a failure shutting down the OS. And now i can't start it because it can't fin Operating System. How can i restore it to factory settings?Â
I have the following 3 drives on my Dell XPS 1530 notebook as it came from Dell :
1)Drive C :Which has all the Windows files
2)Drive D: Which has other files
3)Drive E :Which has the Recovery files
So far I have enabled System Restore only for Drive C.
Is it advisable to enable System restore for Drives D and E also ?
Im particularly asking for Drive D as system restore eats lots of space if it is enabled in Drive D.
Are there any risks if system restore is not enabled for Drive D and E
I have to restore my dell vostro 3700 to factory state, but I dont know how. I googled it and just found  the instruction like "restart pc, then press F8>repair your computer>choose language>log in as administrator and then choose recovery tool> dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up
It would be ok, but I dont have there the option of "dell datasafe restore and emergency back-up" I have there just startup repair, system restore, system image recovery, windows memory diagnostic, command prompt and that's all... I miss there the 6th option.
I have a Aug 2006, Dell E1505, 1.83 ghz, 1 gb ram, ati 256 1400 etc etc + 80gb HDD (note) win XP & media center
for last three year never formatted my system, it was going good... recently some virus attack happend and it made my notebook verrrrrry slow, so i did the famous Ctrl + F11 !!
follow mark mck's bloatware removal, did a hdd defrag for non-c drive.
But my question is, even after everything the system is not running as fast it did in 2006
boot time is ~1min, shut down is 35 odd seconds...
So, my 2 cents say that after long usage, even if you do a factory restore DO NOT EXPECT a out of the factory hardware/speed, all u get is out of factory windows settings and bloatware ((
I am trying to get my Studio 15 to factory conditions but I am running into two BIG problems:
1) When I press F8, I get no option to "Repair Your System"
2) The Dell Vista reinstall disk does not have to option for OS Restore on it
I have a problem with my Dell laptop. I got a virus , and i don't even know what did it do. When i start my laptop it loads like it was before( it says big DELL and Inspiron, then progress bar and F2 Setup and F12 Boot options). After that loads i see this thing flashing _ . And then red text comes up and says something like " Your laptop was blocked because bla bla bla" and after that red text this thing _ flashing. Keyboard is blocked, nothing happens when i try to connect USB or my mouse. The only thing i can do on my laptop now is press F2 or F12 while Dell loads, before that red thing.
How do i restore my system, what disks do i use?
i have a quick question... i'm running an xps 1530 (first run) with a 2.2 dual core, 4gb ram, 7200 rpm drive, and the 8600 GT card.
i today ran a system restore to clean everything up, with a format. is that as good as a full format/reinstall of vista? it seems to be running pretty well.
my main question is this... i've gotten back into WoW, and i'm having some hitching running it on max settings... should i have that issue? i feel like this should completely destroy that game.
I have a dell laptop computer (Inspiron 13 (7347, Mid 2014)). I tried to restore the win8 to a point but it failed. Now it can not start windows 8. "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We are just collecting some error info, and then we will restart for you". My computer was restarted again and again but the problem is still exist. I think I need run windows 8 system restore but I do not know how to do it...
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a new Inspiron 15 (5547, Early 2014), Windows 7. Within a few days, the speed of operation dropped to glacial speeds. It would take 10-15 minutes to open programs.
I've run virus and malware scans and this has not fixed the problem. I intended to then restore the system to an earlier install point, but every time I do I get a windows error "System restore did no complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed". The text of the message indicates I shoud disable my anti-virus software, but when I disable it (MacAfee, live scan and firewall), I get the same message. I get the same message even if I restore from safe mode, with MacAfee disable. The real issue is the incredible slow operation.
My system has been running slower than when i first bought it. I wanna do a system restore but want to get rid of all the bloatware that comes when i first got my laptop.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an HP G-60 laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium that I tried to use the System Restore utility on several times. It would go through the entire process, restart perfectly, then I would get the following error message: "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer system files and settings are not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during System Restore." Obviously, a system restore utility that doesn't isn't much use.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI got a brand new VOSTRO 3660 with x3 USB 3.0, and since it has no CD/DVD my only option of creating Factory Recovery Image with DataSafe is thrught USB
which is USB 3.0.
I have done some digging before posting, and I understood that I had to enter to the bios and change USB debug Mode to Enable in order to make it work as USB 2.0Â Â (Disable USB 3.0 functionality to install Windows 7 from a USB Flash Drive).
thing is that I tried that several thing to recover the windows 7, deleted the usb flash drive and made several copies and in the end of it IÂ always get to a screen which tells me that "if you are trying to restore your pc from usb 3.0 ................change to a different usb port " .
I would like to have the full Dell-branded Windows OS DVD but I am not sure if Dell has discontinued this. Do they still ship these out? If not, do they charge for it or can I just get it for free?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried to restore system to factory default by pressing Ctrl+F11 in my XPS M1210. After confirmation to proceed I got the message: General failure error 36000.
I re-installed Windows XP but I'm having troubles with drivers not installed by the Windows re-install process.Â
How I can get the original system restore/recovery media for the above machine?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have Dell XPS m1330, and I'm having problem to perform factory restore. At the moment I have windows server 2008 installed for testing purpose. When I tried to perform factory restore by running D:ToolsPCRestore.exe on the recovery partition, it fails when reformatting the harddrive (see screenshot below)
I then tried the other method by rebooting, and pressing F8 when dell logo appears. However I couldn't find a "System repair" menu in there.
Is there any other method I can try to perform factory restore?
I have just attempted to do a factory reset of my wifes Laptop which appeared to have gone OK until the system attempted to reboot.
I am now stuck with the 2 liner
PBR Â 1 . . . Done
Loading DRMK Version 8.00
And that is that.
I have read through the bits I can find in the forum and Google and have set the Sata  to "enabled" in Power Management, as suggested, but still no luck.
I have also tried a windows repair as I have the discs supplied, both the Operating System (Win XP) and the driver disc but still can't move on.
I'm not sure if there is a problem with the community website but in the search box I keep getting a message when searching to say .. error retrieving file ....
The laptop was supplied with Norton Ghost but I think all of that must have been wiped when I initially did the Factory reset.
I am planning to restore my laptop to its factory default because of some problems like the "Windows Update" window is all grayed out. I tried finding solutions in the net but it doesn't solve the problem so maybe system restore may do it but inst going to remove all the programs, like MS Office? Are the files saved in drive D also be removed? My laptop has MS Office already when my mother bought it. I have Acer Aspire 5730z.
