I'm working on an Extensa 5420 that has a broken plastic tab that holds the power jack in the lower case. Anyone had any luck with glue/epoxy (or some other techique) to secure the power jack in position so it won't fall inside the case?
just got an Acer Extensa 5420-5687 laptop (used no warranty), added a new hdd and plugged in and I get nothing, the battery light does not light up, I swapped power supplies with my 5102wlmi and I still get nothing, no lights no nothing I have a feeling I know where this is going which might be the trash bin, but I thought I might ask if there is something I should be looking for. I have tried holding the power button without a battery and all that neat stuff. The battery charge light does not come on at all, its been plugged in for about an hour now and I get nothing.......
I am thinking of buying one if these soon from BestBuy. I have an Aspire 5003 and no problems with it. I will be getting this for 250 as I have a broken PDA with replacement plan and they no longer sell this model. I will probably buy it tomorrow or next weekend.
I have an Acer Extensa 5420 or 5420-5687 and i have a question about bluetooth function.
When I pull the Bluetooth "button" to the right, a message appears in the screen saying "No Bluetooth Device". What does that means? That the laptop dont have the thing that picks up the bluetooth signal from the other devices or that it have the thing that picks up the signal but didnt found any signal?
I've switched from Vista to XP and searched this forum for the drivers and found that link: [url]
However the XP drivers for the WiFi card doesn't work
I know it's a Broadcom 802.11g Does someone knows where to find them? In the "Device Manager" I have "Network Controller" with both a question and exclamation mark.
Also, I need to update the following drivers (XP): IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers - Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE controller
I need to use an old GW Basic program on my Acer Extensa 5420 laptop. While I can run GW BAsic itself, problem arises when I try to invoke full screen mode within the program. I get an error message (on the Vista desktop, NOT from the Basic program) that says that this system does not support ful screen mode, and I have to cancel or ignore. If I remove the basic command to go to full screen, the program runs OK but in a small window that renders it basically useless. This same program runs fine on my older desktop with Windows XP. Is this a hardware limitation? Many (non-GW Basic) applications go to full screen no problem, like IE or Firefox, MS Office and so many more.
I installed Windows XP 64 bit on my extensa 5420 and I've been finding it really hard to just access wireless LAN. I downloaded the drivers off of the website link in the other thread about extensa 5420. After installing those drivers, nothing happened because it couldn't detect my wireless adapter. The only network adapter detected is the 1394 net adapter. Under other devices (question signs next to them) are : Audio Device, Ethernet Controller, Mass Storage Controller, Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus, Network Controller, SM Bus Controller.
How do I get LAN and wireless LAN to work? I love having windows xp 64 bit.
I'm thinking about upgrading my laptop - the plan is to add 2GB of RAM (for 4GB total) and swapping in a larger HD (the 160GB is getting full, and I haven't swapped my music libary over yet...)
My questions are:
-anyone know where I can find a free service manual for either the 5420 series laptops or something similar? I've found a few online, but all want payment , and I'd like to have an idea what's involved before taking a screwdriver to the laptop
- if I swap in a larger HD, can I use the Acer restore disk I created as soon as I powered the laptop up, or should I create another and restore from that? Or, most likely, is it a case that if I swap in a new HD I've got to re-install from scratch (with no Vista disk from Acer)?
I need to upgrade the graphics card on my Acer Extensa 5420 to something that is a lot more powerful then what the standard stock is. It is not even letting me play a game that was released in 2003 because the card is so bad. I am running on Vista and have 2GB or RAM, but am going to upgrade to 3 or 4 in the near future.
Also; my computer does not shut down, it goes in to stand by and dies on me. How can I shut it down? I have done all of the proper configuration so that it shuts down when it is told to... screenie provided as attachment
I have an Acer Extensa 5420 and it came with Windows Vista (no recovery discs just 2 partitions with one recovery) which I wiped and installed Ubuntu onto. I went to install XP and the wireless card doesn't work.
I downloaded the driver from Acer's own site and it says that the card is ejected/not installed. I have no idea what to do and all acer is telling me to do is to redownload the same drivers and try again.
link to download the drivers of the ethernet of this computer i only got 2 days to get it ive been looking for hours whats the drivers name but couldnt get it
I have upgraded the OS to Win 7 Home Premium, 32 bit, and had the hard drive upgraded to a 320 GB SATA drive. The system will boot flawlessly with the SATA drive installed, it will not boot with the 500Gb Samsung 840 EVO SSD drive installed.
When the power button is pressed the power light lights up, the hard drive activity light lights up, the CPU cooling fan comes on, the DVD drive light comes on and you hear a couple of clicks then it turns off.
Is there a special setting in BIOS that needs to be made or is this notebook simply unable to use an internal SSD drive?
I bought an Acer Extensa 5420-5038 today, it cames with Vista Home 32 bits english version. As I am a brazilian, i formated it and instaled Vista Ultimate 64 bits Portugues version. The problem is, after the instalation, the wireless dont work anymore.
The light that usually flickes over it doesl not turn on, and it appears as an unknown network device on my hardware manager.
I've tried Atheros and Broadcom drivers from acer site but they didnt work and it told me the driver won't be installed because the appropriate card isn't installed....
In other words, it's telling me I dn't have an Atheros/Broadcom wireless card, but with the original instalatio of Vista it WAS working perfectly.
In an Extensa 5420 the hard drive was formatted as EISA instead of NTFS. Is there a way to change it to NTFS without destroying what is on the drive? It is running okay, is there a disadvantage leaving it as EISA?
The little LED on the shift key sometimes is on but Caps Lock is not on (all keys still in lower case). This is always the case when I log on freshly. pressing Shift two times to enable Caps Lock (screen indicator comes on, ALL CAPS NOW) and pressing it two times again turns off Caps Lock as well as the LED indicator. But sometimes it still behaves eradically. Any software update on this?
I am trying to repair a ZD7000 series laptop. The initial problem was that it had a broken AC Jack. I got a new AC jack and soldered that in. While I was at it, I also got a 3.2GHz P4 out of another laptop to replace the one that was in this laptop.
Now the laptop does not pass the boot screen. It will just display the HP splash page, then reboot. No BIOS beeps. It does this on both AC power and battery.
Travelmate 4010. I've had it for about 3 years now, and over the past *thinks* 6 months or so the power cord had been replaced twice because it broke. But it wasn't really the cord itself that broke the first time. Something inside the jack is broken and now the cord (a new one) has to be positioned just the right way so it doesn't switch to battery mode. I use it mostly on my bed, which probably doesn't help, but at one point I had to have it on a desk with the cord taped to the lid so it wouldn't move and kill the battery (which doesn't last that long). I couldn't even close the lid so I just had the monitor shut off after a minute. but I did get a new cord and started using it on my bed, storing it underneath when I'm not using it. After a while, though, the cord started to do the same thing and now I'm sitting here trying not to move on the bed too much so it doesn't disconnect. I'd like to get a new notebook, but I can't afford it.
formatted C installed XP Pro and all Acer drivers, worked fine for a week, now when I try to boot it only comes on for a short time with no start up screen showing, shuts off on AC or DC
With power supply plugged in and battery secure, cannot power up. Tried the removal of power and holding on/off button down for 30 seconds but didn't work.
So the power jack on my D520 seems to have broke.. It still works, but the center of the plug is missing, and the cord pulls out very easy... What would i need to do to replace it? Looking at ebay, i can find it for a few $, http://cgi.ebay.com/DC-Power-Jack-De...item45e96642b7
Does this require soldering? Seems like a cheap design or something.
I just bought a brand spankin new HP dv5t series, got it 3 days ago, i inspected it when i got it out of the box and it was beautiful.
However a little later I noticed that the power (cord side) that you plug in to charge was pretty loose.
Now just today I tripped on the long part of the cord... it moved the laptops position on the desk a few inches, and enough to pull it out of the box in the middle of the cord, and it feels even loser.. but I cant tell if it really did, i might just be paranoid.
This worries me because on my last two laptops they were pretty tight and had no play in them, both of the ended up broken.
Like many others, the power jack in my HP zv5000 appears to be broken or faulty. When i had this problem on my Compact Presario, i bought a port replicator that had an excellect power jack. i had hoped the Targus universal docking station would do the same but am told it will not power the laptop. Anyone know of a docking station or port replicator for this model that will power the laptop? i am seriously not into paying over $100 to get it fixed only to have it happen again...as so many others have done.
i saw the quickdock on Hp site and asked them if it was compatible with the zv5000 series, but they still have not responded.
First post here... Here's the deal, my 600m won't charge the battery anymore and will not run off of the power cord.
The power cord is showing 19.5v which is correct.
The back of the power adapter jack on the mobo is showing about 3.5v when plugged in and the two outside pins that charge the battery are only showing about 0.02v. Is this normal voltage or do you think the mobo broken?
I'm not really sure which of the battery charging pins to check the voltage from and can't find a diagram of it anywhere.
I have a Studio 1558, about 3 years old. Had the computer on and plugged in last night, and turned off the outlet switch by accident. This morning, it's dead. When I plug the power adapter into the jack on the laptop, the blue LED jack light flashes once, stays on for up to a second, then turns off. That's all the laptop can do.
Pulled the battery, but changed nothing. Trying to troubleshoot where the problem lies.
