View 3 RepliesI have a VGN-NS190J Sony VAIO with Windows Vista 64 bit. It is supposed to be able to play blu-ray movies, but whenever I put one in, it cannot be read. The laptop can't detect it.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have got some problems with my notebook.
1) I changed the picture quality to 3D (from quality to performance) after that i am not able to open my nvidia control panal.
I also updated my drivers .. didnt work
2) I am not able to play any games (big once like NFS pro) . It works very slow
3) If i put a memory card in my card reader i get a blue screen.
4) If i on my blue tooth it asks for installing drivers (every thing i have to search and intall it again and again).
I'm testing out my Blu-Ray drive and I notice that the volume on the playback in WinDVD is very low. I have to max out the volume in Win 7 just to be able to hear the audio through the notebook speakers.
The movie I'm testing is Ice Age 3. I have the DVD and the blu-ray version. The DVD plays very loud via WMP. The blu-ray volume leaves a lot to be desired.
I just got a CTO Z590 2.4 GHZ, 3 GB ram, Vista Business "Fresh Start". I'm getting a feel for its performance.
When I attempt to play a HD video with my from within IE, Chrome, Firefox, or quicktime at full screen the video is choppy, less than 10fps. I've got the newest versions of webbrowers, flash, and quicktime.
Here are some examples:

I've let the videos buffer so internet connection isn't an issue, and I'm in "speed" mode.
I'm upgrading from 6 year old 1.4Ghz Athlon, so I had expected the Z590 wouldn't have a problem, am I expecting too much?
Do others have an issue with these videos?
Should I make use of my XP downgrade disk?
I just picked up the Sony Vaio F series from Best Buy and noticed that the video colors are distorted (bluish) when playing blu-ray or regular videos on the laptop. I tried tinkering with the display and nvidia settings. No luck. Pictures / images look fine. Only videos have the odd bluish color.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI own a Sony Vaio AW31 S/B (P8700, 4GB, Full HD). Quite powerful machine, I'd say, but I wonder about one thing: When I'm listening to music (using Winamp 5.56) just along the way while doing other stuff on the computer, it happens sometimes that the music playback gets jerky for half a second or so.
It most likely happens when I'm editing pictures from my digital SLR with GIMP. OK, this may be a quite power-consuming task, but on the other hand, the Vaio should be powerful enough to handle music and picture software at one time, shouldn't it?
With my last notebook, i never noticed any jerking in the music playback, even though it was way not as well equipped as the Vaio. Or does the Full HD display with enabled color management need a lot of system power?
I have a new Sony VAIO FW490J that I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional on. I also updated all the major drivers from the Sony eSupport site.
For whatever reason, the VAIO won't play a Blu-Ray disc. I can explore it just not play it.
I think my problem likes with the WinDVD BD for VAIO software. I tried to install the software but the program is nowhere to be found after what appears to be a successful installation.
About to pull trigger on the new Sony VPCZ11 -How would you rate the screen quality on this notebook as opposed to say the T410 Lenovo, or W510? Or any other comparable for that matter

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm looking to buy a laptop for programming, gaming, and everyday tasks. Right now I'm debating between the VPCCW27FX and a 15" MBP. The price difference is huge (almost $1000 more for roughly the same machine) but there are two things that are making me consider getting the Apple.
1. The ability to do iPhone/iPad programming. Hard to put a price on this. I'm not positive I will have the time to do this but it is nice to have the option.
2. Build quality - everyone raves about how well Apples are made and my general experience observing friends makes me think they are decently made as well.
how well put together their VPCCW27FX is? Have any components needed replacing/how timely was the repair work? Any more general nagging complaints about the machine (wobbly screens, bad keys, loud drives, etc)?
Also, if people have more general thoughts on comparing the 15" MBP vs the VPCCW27FX that would be great. It's pretty amazing the price difference between the two but if the MBP is must better made and will be supported more quickly then that's something I'll have to take into serious consideration.
I was just wondering if there were any differences in build quality with the CTO models and the preconfigured ones.
I think someone posted that CTO had better build quality. And also, if the majority of people posting about barrel issues have CTO or preconfigured model
The Sony Vaio Z series is one of my main choices to get. One of the biggest reasons I was getting this laptop was the quality of the image but now I read a thread about the leakage of their screens
View 10 Replies View RelatedThere so much factor that shows the display quality: Viewing angles, color gamut, response time....
But the most importans are brigthness and contrast value for 99% of users. I collected this data from notebookreview and notebookjournal.
I ordered a sony fw laptop from sonystyle, and was wondering on the quality of the speakers, as I have heard mixed reviews about them. My sister has a unibody macbook and I was wondering if anyone has experience of the sound quality of these laptops comparitively. As the macbook is the only laptop I could really compare the fw's sound to as I have not heard any others.
So basically is the sound better, equal or worse than the unibody macbook's? when listening to music, watching films.
In addition to having a bad hard disk (after less than a year of ownership it totally failed, corrupted data, bla bla bla), the welds on the palm rest screw posts (see picture attachment) have come undone. I have been able to fix this for the time being with krazy glue, but it's not perfect. Furthermore, because of this, the plastic piece on the CD drive side broke at the incredibly flimsy joint with the main carbon chassis. Also fixed for the time being with krazy glue.
The touchpad comes on reversed from time to time, there's a ton of bloatware installed by default, no official 64bit support (although I was able to get it working with help from this forum), bla bla bla. My friends think all of this is hillarious, as I "overpayed" for a Sony that has been a real bear in terms of quality.
I can't complain about the design, weight, battery life, gorgeous screen, or performance however... but the quality issues are canceling out the positives, I'd say overall it's impossible to give the SZ6 a better grade than a B: it's a pleasure to lug around (I'm moving around every day) but the poor quality means you can never relax.
I own this VGN-FZ340E notebook. The Cam quality is poor.
Q.1. I wanted to know if others face the same problem as mine or it's only with my notebook?
Q.2. How can I improve Cam Quailty? Is there any software that can enhance it?

i loaded ffd show too for vlc but no use .. the video comes with squares if it is a little poor.
I bought a brand-new VAIO sz-220 made in Japan back in 2006 for around $1400. Since then, I've experienced the following problems:
optical drive broken
speaker hissing
fan has unusual whizzing sound
fingerprint scanner broken
trackpad randomly fails to work (buttons/trackpad sticks, I've never spilled liquid, always have clean hands when handling the computer)
ac adapter broke
windows randomly goes into restart/shutdown sequence and freezes midway
laptop runs at 94C when placed on a desk and freshly internally dusted
laptop does not reliably turn off after initiating shutdown sequence (sometimes it freezes midway)..........
huge threads dedicated to new Vaio Z (and read more than half of them) but couldn't find any useful information about 1920x1080 screen. I saw 1600x900 model in store and wasn't impressed at all (TN simply can't get better than average IMO)
Is there any information about panel manufacturer/type? Does anybody have proper pics showing its viewing angles (comparison with 1600 model will be even better)?
Don't post about resolution/DPI scaling/small fonts, this thread is devoted to panels' quality only.
The FW has a CCFL screen even if it's hi-color, full hd, right?
Notebook check says it's 357 nits! Is that really the case, b/c I thought the Sony Z would have the best screen and it was something like 280 nits. 357 is just ridiculously bright and the brightest that I've ever heard of.
1920x1080 hi-color screen vs the Sony Z's screen?
Is it audible when surfing the web, etc and not under load?
I am considering the two following models: SR290 and Z540. My question relates to the overall build quality of these models as well as battery life with the extended battery.
Basically Im deciding between these 2 and a lenovo. The lenovo is heavier than both, is well made, and has ridiculous battery life. Just curious as to how the sony's stand up over time.
i just bought vaio notebook windows vista with intel Pentium Dual Core and why the hell when i watch youtube videos they all look crappy and it doesn't give me good high quality or HD! and can this be solved i wanna see good old movies in youtube but they look blurry and crappy.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an m1730 with a T8100 CPU, 4GB RAM, and a 250GB 7200RPM HD. I just upgraded the DVD drive with a UJ-120 blu-ray drive and it's not working well.
I get severe stuttering, in both video and audio. Playback is smooth until the drive kicks in, which leads me to believe it's not reading blu-ray disk or not transferring data fast enough.
I did see some posts about not being able to enable DMA for this drive but if this is by design, then this drive would be unusable on my model. I'm using PowerDVD 9 for playback.
I own a 8230 and will not play a dvd or bluray with Acer Arcade Deluxe...it did in the past.
When I try it seems to open up a screen and says " this program cannot display the webpage" weird. Won't play any AVI files in my hard drive also.
all other programs with this sof ware seem to work ok.
It does ask to download an update V2.1.0 6010...but it fails....
I'm having some minor problems with playback in Windows Media Player. The problem is that when I try and skip forward in a short video clip (.wmv), say 5mins, I can only hear audio and the screen stays blank. And in a longer video, 90mins, when I try to skip forward the video crashes completely and I recieve an error message saying "WMP encountered a problem playing the file". Web Help takes me here. I've followed instructions there but the problem still persists. However, If I leave videos to play without skipping forward, it plays perfectly.
I don't know if this is a problem with drivers or WMP itself. Or if its actually to do with the power of my machine itself. Anybody any ideas how to fix this? Specs are detailed in the signature below.
first laptop i've gotten with a 17" screen. don't normally watch dvd's on computers but it supports blu ray and i'd like to give it a whirl. what all is considered the best program for playback and what is the recommended aspect ratio and whatnot? same question for just basic avi tv/dvdrips.
