Dec 28, 2008planning to buy a laptop for all kind of purposes: watching movies, converting them to dvd, play games, surf internet, use word etc.
I am thinking of buying Dell XPS 1530 for $1778 without tax (btw my budget is under $2000)

Also can someone please confirm if this laptop includes: VGA output for RS232cable, firewire, and svideo. Also would i be able to attach my external desktop speakers or not ? i am also very confuse about the battery like not sure which one to get like 9 or 6 cell ..cuz i heard that 9 cell would be very heavy compare to 6 and weird shape? Lastly is the grainy screen problem still around like i have to tell the representative for LG screen or not ?

Big problems...I want to switch to XP Pro.
Formatting for XP Pro but Snoop mentioned an Acer Downgrade .iso, but it was never mentioned as to what this wa, where to get it, and what it does.
I did a quick format this morning but I could not load the broadcom drivers...got a message :cannot install this...
Now I am trying a COMPLETE format and will see what happens.
I do not have a hard-wire internet connection available where I am, but I have a second laptop whichcan get what I need via wi-fi.
Acer :: 4420 Audio
Nov 10, 2008When i plug in my headphone jack the speakers don't mute and there is no sound coming thru the headphones. When I do a test on the control panel, the headphones beep, so they are working. I think I downloaded some free software ( VLC player, slim version. some other softwares downloaded with it. don't know which ones) the audio problem started after this.

Oct 13, 2008I have the extensa 4420, today I was in class and I was just typing notes and I noticed that my cooling fan was quite noticable so I turned the fan always on function to "off" and the fan turned off and it was nice and quiet. i watched the temps hover around 38 but when the temps hit 41 (according to NHC) the fan kicked in at a good low speed. the NHC was setting the CPU to stay at 800mhz per core so I was wondering if that is a good temp? I have experience in using thermal paste, would that help lower the temps enough to stay under 41 degrees?

Feb 24, 2009I have just installed a OS on my new acer 4420- (came with no os or recovery features).........It doesn't even recognize the wifi..........What do I need to do in this situation? I need to get it online to download drivers.
The only "recovery" cd's I have will not run. They are .ISO files or something.....
Someone help a noob out.........
I do have a portable usb zip drive, but I can't figure out how to transfer files from one computer to the other, and then open and run them.

May 22, 2010I have an extensa 4420. just recently moved into a home where the internet and utilities were already setup. They have a linksys wireless router. WRT54G they have a network and a password. When i enter this into my e-net management screen it doesnt work it asks me for a WEP key but i do not have the WEP key nor do the owners of the home. Is there any way possible i can enter the password to connect or set something differently?

Dec 7, 2009This machine comes with the ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 integrated card and 2gb of RAM. In Bios I see allocated memory set at 256mb and it goes no higher.
I was thinking of increasing RAM to 4gb. What I am trying to do is watch video, for example, tv programs on Hulu and what I get now is choppy picture and freezing.
Would increasing RAM to the max of 4gb correct this or not?

May 9, 2009I recently pruchased an Acer Extensa 4420 and converted from VISTA to XP. I am having problems with installing the video driver. I down loaded the video driver from ACER's web site but it will not install. I had to down load the wireless driver from Dell and I was wondering if there was a similar trick for the video driver.

Acer :: Extensa 4420-5817 Display Driver
Nov 3, 2008I have wiped out Vista from this machine and installed XP Professional. All have been installed fine except Wireless and Display drivers. I got wireless driver from gateway and it worked great.
I have done every thing as outlined in different threads on this forum and all other resources including acer north america and europe sites to install display driver but i still keep on getting the "set up did not find a driver compatible with your hardware or operating system" error.
The display driver specified on the sticker is 896 MB ATI Radeon Xpress 1250 Hyper Memory.
I am able to install the "SMBUS v.5.10.1000.6" from acer europe site without any problem.
I have upgraded the BIOS also to v1.18 from v1.17.
All the rest of the drivers i am able to install from the Vista Application and Driver back up DVD including the webcam that i created before taking out vista.
This machine is AMD Athelon 64X2 Dual-Core Processor TK-57.
Acer :: No Wireless Adapter Recognized 4420-5963
Feb 25, 2009I have been able to install most all of the missing drivers after my new OS install.......
The only problem I'm having is the wireless adapter is not recognized in device manager. There is a "network controller" that has no driver. I have installed the broadcom driver from acer site, but it won't work.
When I press the wireless button, it will toggle between wlan enabled, and wlan disabled, but I can't figure it out

Nov 12, 2008I recently bought a eMachines eMD620 from best buy for $299. I also have an Acer 4420-5239 with an onboard ATI x1250 which I got on clearance at Office Depot. The eMachines laptop looks almost exactly like the Acer 4420 except it uses a new low-power AMD processor called the 2650e (which I can't find much information on) and has the onboard ATI x1250.
My first question is: Does the emachines eMD620 use the same socket S1 motherboard as the acer 4420-5239? I put more ram in the eMachines laptop and looks like it is the same motherboard that uses the AMD S1 socket as the Acer 4420, except the heatsink is different.
Second question: Has anyone upgraded the processor on the eMachines eMD620 or taken it appart? I am going to upgrade the AMD TK-57 that came in the Acer 4420 with a TL-66 or a TL-64 because they are dirt cheap on ebay these days. I then want to put the AMD TK-57 in the EMachines eMD620.
Third question: The press release I see for the AMD 2650e shows that another low-power dual core processor called the 3250e is also available, but I can't find anyone selling it anywhere. Does anyone have one or know a place to get one? Are they both socket S1?
Last Question: Has anyone installed an internal Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive in the Acer 4420? Are the AMD processor and ATI video card enough to handle playback? The HD-DVD laptop drives are also pretty cheap on ebay and I was hoping to experiment a little. I have heard conflicting statements about system requirements depending on the playback software used.
Acer :: Extensa 4420 - PQSERVICE Factory Setting
Jul 29, 2009my Acer Extensa 4420. A few days ago while on my laptop the BSOD suddenly popped up and my laptop shut down. A restarted it and while it did log in, I got notices saying a lot of stuff was corrupt. I ran chkdsk to see if i could diagnose the issue, and it stated the system volume was corrupt. As time went by using windows became erratic. I decided to try to restore my acer back to factory settings using the eRecovery program. This program would stop working every time right before the process began. Eventually windows stopped booting up at all. leaving my at a boot screen the endlessly looped. I installed Ubuntu shortly after, and managed to get my PQSERVICE partition recognized by the GRUB bootloader and Ubuntu itself (as a mounted drive). The problem is that whenever I do boot to the PQSERVICE partition and look through the options in the recovery center, there is no restore to factory default settings.

Jan 31, 2009I have been looking for the bluetooth drivers for my Acer Extensa 4420-5910 for a week with no luck. I believe they are Broadcom drivers but I am not sure. None of the drivers on Acer's website work. Broadcom's download page is also down. Driverguide does not appear to have them either. Acer doesn't have a "Parts List" for this laptop so they cannot tell me exactly what bluetooth drivers I will need, and unfortunately I am not about to crack a new laptop open to find out. At the minimum if someone could just tell me what the name of the correct driver is I would be satisfied. This is for 32-bit Vista.

Oct 27, 2008i got an Extensa 4420, and after hearing everyone say vista is out, I installed XP.
Im new to PC's [been a mac user for years] and this is confusing me.
The laptop has 2 partitions - C: and D:
Vista is on C: so i installed xp on D:
It appears that i can now only access XP and cannot ever boot into vista off C: is that true?
Also, when running XP i have no internet via the ethernet cable nor the wireless card that comes with this laptop. Can someone explain what drivers i need to install to make those work?
I got the Extensa_4200 driver folder off the website, but i am clueless as to which need to be installed - as im new to PC.
Any advice is much appreciated.
I have successfully figured out the audio and video drivers but now i need the internet and wireless to work.
Acer :: Extenza 4420 - Cracked Screen After 8 Days
Oct 16, 2008I bought an Extenza 4420 a few weeks ago, and the screen cracked after only a week. I did not drop it or step on it or abuse it. Acer told me a replacement screen would cost $450 plus shipping costs. This doesn't seem right. The customer service at the store where I bought it, and also when I called Acer's customer service line offered no help at all.
My question is if there is anything I can do about it other than replacing the screen at my cost?
Acer Extensa 4420 :: Upgrading Vista To Windows 7
Oct 4, 2014I'm having trouble upgrading from Vista to windows 7. I have purchased a legal copy of 32 bit windows 7 home premium, same version a Vista.
I tried the update instal to preserve my programs & settings. I got an error and system reverted back to Vista.
I then tried a boot, fresh install. The windows disk loaded , but I ended up with Blue Screen of Death.
I have downloaded all the latest drivers for the the Extensa 4420 from Acer's site. Is there a special version required for the 4420?
Acer Extensa 4420 :: Cannot Recover System - ERecovery Will No Longer Run
Oct 4, 2014I purchased the factory "Recovery" CDs. The problem is they will not recover the system.
Also on a 2nd HD I find that the Acer program eRecovery will no longer run.
This appears that Acer sels computers and doesn't provide the software needed to do basic recovery actions we could do under W-95
Acer will also sell you a "Recovery" CD sets that do not actually allow you to recover your system so you have a functioning PC.
V2.5.4015 is what I show in my corrupt file.
Acer :: Aspire 7520 - Cannot Play Anymore New Games Or Even Watch Any Movies On My Laptop
Jun 25, 2009I have a big problem with my acer 7520. The problem is that i cannot play anymore new games or even watch any movies on my laptop. I got the laptop about a year and a half ago and everything worked great. I could watch movies even when other applications were open. I could play pretty demanding games on it that ran very well. And now about 3 months ago all that luxury stopped and i cant do any of those things anymore. Even an old game like rome total war runs at 9 fps or lower on the main map, i didnt even bother going into battle. Movies stutter and skip frames, and sometimes even get stuck on the same frame with the sound still going as if everything is fine.
My specs are:
AMD Turion(tm) 64 X2 Mobile Technology TL-56 (2 CPUs), ~1.8GHz
2GB DDR2
NVIDIA GeForce 7000M / nForce 610M
Acer :: Extensa 4420- Error Message (update Your ATI Graphics Driver)
Dec 18, 2008Every time I start up my Extensa 4420, I get the following error message window:
"The Catalyst Control Center is not supported by the driver version of your enabled graphics adapter. Please update your ATI graphics driver, or enable your adapter using the Displays Manager."
Why is this happening? If I go into the device manager, it says that the graphics adapter is working. If I tell it to check for updated drivers it says that the driver I have installed is the most current one. Everything seems to work fine on the computer. How can I stop the message from popping up every time?
