I was doing some house cleaning on a co-workers Acer Aspire 5335. Cleaning out all of the junk and bloatware and such. In the process of doing this, I seemed to have either disabled or uninstalled the utility that shows the volume level on the screen when you turn the volume up or down.
Do any of you by chance know what program controlls that? I went to the Acer site to look, but I'm not sure what program it may be.

The brightness level of the screen keeps on changing randomly. I have checked various power management settings but it doesn't work.
I have an Acer Aspire 5536 which is running Windows 7. Recently, I have noticed that two of the On-Screen Symbols have gone missing.
Previously, when I pressed the Volume '+' or '-' buttons, a small Icon like symbol would appear on the screen showing a speaker graphic and a moving '|||||||' bar.
Also, if I pressed the button to disable the Touchpad, a symbol would appear momentarily showing that the pad had been disabled/enabled.
How I can restore these symbols?
How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
I bought this laptop 5 months ago and I have been monitoring it slowly deteriorating by battery life, it is a 6 cell 4400mAh battery and I use it every day, and make sure not to let it drop below 10% battery power as to not do full discharges and only partial.
I was getting 1hr 50 mins when I first got the laptop which may have been max or min settings I cant remember but anyways which seems not as good as the advertised 2.5 hr battery but I can understand that advertised and actual may differ and max, min would have had an effect. Anyways now after 5 months (Purchased early december) I am only getting 58 mins on full charge at minimum settings, now this does seem quite ridiculous and NHC is reporting 49% wear level.
My question is, is this normal for a Li-Ion Acer battery after 5 months, it seems quite bad to me, and all I can think is the laptop was left on the shelf for a while before i bought it, or that it is defective. I rang acer warranty support and I feel quite fobbed off with them saying this is normal and usage patterns and that their warranty for batteries only last 6 months and I should expect only to get 1/4 of the full charge i did when i purchased after 6 months. So acer is in the business of making low quality batteries?
My cursor is as spaztic as a Mexican jumping bean. It costs many seconds and numerous nerve endings just to get it to land on the scroll bar correctly. I need to calm down the touchpad's sensitivity. My notebook is an Aspire E3-111-C4GX running Win 8.1. Already turned off taps, changed cursor speed, etc. Must get to its sensitivity level wherever that is.

Not the Volumn icon in the task bar, I lost the display that shows the volumn going up or down on the screen. The video support suggested installing Power Management but this did not work. Just a heads up to all the studio XPS owners. I opened up HWmonitor to check some temps and I noted the battery wear level and its 23%! I have only had the laptop since mid February and its degraded this bad very quickly. Needless to say I will be calling Dell and getting a replacement.
But I thought I would bring it to the attention of the community, because its been so helpful for me I try to give back.
I bought my Dell Inspiron 1545 about 6 days ago, I decided to install windows XP and drop vista in-order to save the battery life from vista hungry resources but
it didn't go very well i get about 2.15 hours max (with only firefox running and a LAN connection cable plus i shutdown wireless+bluetooth).
from the battery under windows XP, then i read about vista/windows 7 that they have better power management than the ancient XP so i installed the vista basic that came with the laptop but when i measure the battery's wear level which was too late i found out this:

I tried to install XP SP2 on dm1 (su4100 version), already up and running now.
The problem was about screen brightness, it seem that xp cannot remember the last brightness level. Every time I rebooted, the screen brightness always set to max level.
I have tried to change Intel chipset and vga driver, but still nothing.
all the Fn + key button worked, even for brightness setting.
Tried installing latest QuickPlay driver, it get worst (it doesnot match with function, in dv6700 Fn+F7,F8 for setting brightness, in dm1 Fn+F3,F4)
The other issue was "pop" noise when windows is starting, but I already solved with some registry trick (which was posted in this forum)
I owned notebook with XP before, and the screen brightness always followed power scheme, if I change the scheme the brightness level will set to the last it was.
So, anyone have any suggestion regarding my brightness issue ?
If some how I can't solved this issue, Is there any 3rd party software for managing power scheme like in vista for XP ?
I am thinking of getting the 8600 MBP with 2gb, the basic hard drive, etc. Then replacing the hard drive with the 80gb intel x25-m and selling the the original. This would come out to a few dollars more than the 2.53gb macbook with 4gb and the 320gb hard drive.
I don't need a lot of space because i have multiple terabytes of external media collection hard drives.
Doesn't the 2.4 consume less watts than the 2.53 as well? This would be better for battery life, which I care about.

recently I started having battery issues on my m1530. I have the 9 cell, and it always worked fine and gave me 3-4 hours of time. Now, though, it displays 3 hours, then drops slowly and accurately with time, until it gets to about 1 hr. At the 1 hr mark or so, it will instantly fall to 5% remaining (about 7 mins) and then turn off after that 7 minutes.
Also, I have been having issues with the charging as well, where it will get to "plugged in, not charging" and just sit at a certain %charge. I am away from home at a temp housing this month, so I don't know if it is just the outlets here, but sometimes it will charge all the way up and others it will just give me power and no charge.
My notebook is Ok, but today after one post here, I dedicated to check my Battery Wear Level.And What a suprise? 5% and my notebook is only on 3 days! Is this someting normal or?
View 10 Replies View Relatedmy Sony Vaio FE690 only lasts around 30 min on battery (I tried calibrating, still same life) but every utility that I try (Battery Eater, Notebook control, Everest, etc.) reports a wear level of 0% and a full charge capacity that is the same as the original capacity.
Can anyone confirm that the Sony battery firmware does not report the wear level? I'm wondering if it has something to do with my BIOS upgrade.
I usually turn my volume really low or even mute it before shutting down my mbp, and when I turn on my mbp, the startup chime will be as loud as that volume level.
Yesterday, I used onyx to clean up some of the preferences,etc. Now, it doesn't matter if I mute the volume before shutting down, the start-up chime will always be there at the same level.
I rather not download the startup sound preference program if i really dont have to.
I've recently bought an HP Pavillion 15 laptop with AMD/Realtek HD audio hardware and Beats Audio. Windows 8.1operating system. It's brand new out of the box with no updates made.
When I playback mp3 music via Windows Media Player, the volume is getting boosted during quiet parts. This is especially noticeable on tracks which fade out, the sound level gets progressively higher as the song fades out, like it's trying to maintain a constant playback volume. This creates a lot of background noise on music recorded from vinyl, for example.
I've checked it isn't the recording, by transferring the same mp3 file to another device and playing it there - the song plays back exactly as recorded, no problem.
I can't find any options in the audio devices (or beats audio) which might control this behaviour. Is there an equaliser somewhere in the system?
p.s. it behaves the same even with Beats Audio disabled. p.p.s it behaves the same with internal speakers, headphones and external speakers.
I have a new Sony F Series with an 820QM CPU. I notice the performance drops to a very low level when the unit is not on AC power.
I have chosen the high performance power profile, and set the Min and Max processor states to 100% both when on AC power and on battery, this didn't help at all .....
After I buy new computer Dell Vostro 5470 I found there is no option to set the highest level of battery charging when you are using computer most time with AC. Does Dell have program for managing this? For example I want have battery between 20-70% of capacity. I am inserting JPEG i got installed just this program for really easy settings...

I have installed a new hard drive on my 8930, and done a clean install of Vista.
I have 4GB of Ram installed, Windows System is only reporting 3096MB.
If I boot from the original Aced Installation it shows 4000MB.
why the new install of Vista is reporting something different to the original?

I have an Ideapad Z500 with an W8.1 installed on it. I updated the bios to the last version but after that I can not control the luminosity level anymore. When I try to do it pressing the Hotkey it trurns to the lowest level of luminosity and I can only fix it by pressing the hotfix key when the laptop starts. I can not return to the old bios version. What shall I do?

I tried using the eRecovery (alt+f10) and gave me the options to restore using disk or to factory settings. I chose the factory settings as this computer did not come with any discs. It went 53% through the restore program and then it stopped leaving me the message...

I have had my Acer 8920g for 6 months now. I was running Vista 64 bit and win 7. I am now running Sabayon 4.1 and have had the same issues in each system. I can type a few sentences then look up and realize I am 1 or 2 sentences up in the paragraph typing in the middle of a word etc. Luckily I dont type alot on this computer but I need to. For example, while typing the I after luckily in the previou sentence, I look up and the I was in front of the I in the 3rd sentence. I have the touch control center to the left locked. I have emailed Acer support for a few months!with no response. I live in the US and Acer support is non exsistant here. I like Acer but if I had known about the poor support I probably would have purchased another brand.
