How can I fix the volume control key on the keyboard?

I have to press it 8 to 10 times to change the sound level...It is not very sensitive.
How to reduce screen brightness below standard level in ThinkPad T520 ?
I think it is possible somehow, but I don't know how. I reduced brightness to zero using Fn key + End key, but it's not enough, I want to make screen darker, because my eyes get tired.
I'm running Win 7, and I have the most up-to-date drivers from the Lenovo site. I have turned on loudness equalization, but it has not worked. This is an across-the-board problem. What I mean by that is, this problem persists regardless of the application, which I happen to be using. For instance, I use Media Player Classic: Home Cinema to watch movies. If the volume is at 0%, as I begin adjusting it upward, the volume level rises. However, as I reach about 70%, the volume stops increasing. There are audio adjustments w/in the application to boost the volume, but they serve to provide minimal effects. Overall, the volume is incredibly low. If you're sitting more than a few feet away from the laptop, it is inaudible.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought a T510 few days ago and was surprised to see this machine has ridiculously low volume. I have tried everything including the tweaks in Smart audio and removing audio limiter but still the volume is very low. On my dell 1525, I never go past 40% volume on my headphones but on T51o, I am using 90-100% volume to watch videos on live streaming websites.
Is there any solution to boost the volume on T510? My system is with windows 7 ultimate (64-bit) and audio device is Conexant 20585.
I usually turn my volume really low or even mute it before shutting down my mbp, and when I turn on my mbp, the startup chime will be as loud as that volume level.
Yesterday, I used onyx to clean up some of the preferences,etc. Now, it doesn't matter if I mute the volume before shutting down, the start-up chime will always be there at the same level.
I rather not download the startup sound preference program if i really dont have to.
I've been recovering from a virus and am trying to get things back to the way I had them and I've noticed something different about the volume meter. First off my volume indicator was missing, when I hit the volume buttons nothing showed up on screen. I realized I needed to install the energy mangement driver and did so. The issue is that I don't care for the appearance of the volume meter. It has yellowish green buttons and the volume increases and decreases by 5 with one press of the volume buttons. The volume meter that I had previously was a white white bar that increased and decreased by 1 each time I hit a volume button. I liked this design a lot better. I'm trying to figure out what version of the energy management driver I had previously that would allow my volume and brightness indicators to be the white bar instead of they yellowish green buttons. My machine type is 2359 and model is CTO with Windows 7 64 bit.

Sometimes after returning from hybernate/sleep I cannot control screen brightness at all (chaning it by Fn+Home/End or from PowerManager just dont work).
I have got latest nNvidia NVS 3100M drivers.
I have owned a T440S since late 2013.

OS : Windows 7 professional (original installation by Lenovo)
Latest Drivers installed as of June 2014 - including HotKey and Power Management
HotKey ver : 8.30
Power Managment : 6.65.1
Since receiving this laptop, OSD birightness control has always failed to work, i.e. does not appear on the screen when using the Fn+F5/F6 key combination nor does it control actual screen brightness AFTER FIRST resuming from sleep mode.
Sequence of steps that demonstrates the above symptom:
1. OSD brightness works fine after reboot
2. Putting the machine to sleep (I do not use hibernate) for a duration longer than a few minutes
3. Open lid the first time, hit Fn to resume machine
4. Pressing Fn+F5/F6 key combo does not display the brightness slider nor does it control brightness
5. Closing the lid and opening it again, causes OSD brightness slider to flash briefly and is now fully functional using Fn+F5/F6 keys
Your tech department should easily be able to re-create this issue on any stock T440S/Win7pro machine, as I have seen others comment about this very issue across other T440/OS variants.
I have just installed Windows 8 onto my T510i but I am unable to control the Bluetooth Radio. It seems to be constantly on.
If I press FN+F5 nothing happens (not even flight mode)
I have downloaded and installed all the drivers and software that I can from the Lenovo support website. Is there any thing I can do so that I can turn the Bluetooth radio on and off....
Sound has busted on T520 for a few weeks now. I can hear sound when I plug in my earphones, but windows recognizes this as a speaker, conexant 20672. I checked the "find and fix audio playback problems" in windows 7 to no avail. I believe I may have to have my speakers repaired. I am still under base warranty until sometime next year.

The sound is failing intermittently on my T430.
Closing then opening the lid to enter and return from hibernation sometimes restores sound. When this does not work restarting the machine usually restores sound. But the sound fails again after an indeterminate period.
Opening Ubuntu Linux in Virtualbox now displays the message "Some audio devices (PCM_in, PCM-mic) could not be opened".

just got a T430s with i7-3520M processor (3.60 GHz, 4MB L3, 1600MHz FSB) and 8G memory. How do I stream to my HDTV with sound? USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter? MiniDisplay to HDMI? Any caveats I should be aware of?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI updated the BIOS to 2.26 a while ago and ever since then there's no on-screen indication of caps lock on/off, screen brightness or volume when I change it. Since it seemed to be affected by BIOS, I updated again to 2.27 just now, but the problem persists. I needed to update the Hotkeys Feature Integration by downloading the utility thingy from this page. Probably wasn't a BIOS thing after all.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my Lenovo ThinkPad T400 with a Crucial M500 (240GB SATA SSD 7mm) and 8GB Kit (DDR3 PC3-8500 NON-ECC) RAM.
After a couple of days of trail and error I eventually installed (successfully, I might add) Windows 7 via USB. I leave my laptop on when I sleep, but in the morning it's shut off. When I power it on I get to the Windows did not shut down properly and I always select the "Start Windows Normally" option and additionally Google Chrome informs me that it wasn't shut down properly and restores my tabs.
Why it randomly shuts itself off... Also, when I try to run my system rating after one or two flashes of the screen my laptop turns off, so I am unable to do this as well.
I recently purchased a Thinkpad T440.
As a finance person I need to use the F1, F2, ....., F12 keys on a regular basis. My issue is that I need to always use FN+F1, FN+F2, ....., FN+F12 to work, which is not the most convenient thing to do.
Is there any way to switch these two? Going in the BIOS offers me only the opportunity to switch between Ctrl and Fn.
I'm tried hard-booting the device, but no dice. When I push the power button, I show activity in the status lights and can feel heat coming out of the heatsink. I think I see the 'ThinkPad' screen displaying very faintly at that time, but it seems not to proceed through the regular boot process. I'm definitely not able to get to a BIOS post.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy 3 month old t430s has a major issue with the audio/sound. At completely random times, I will have no sound for a matter of minutes or hours. This is primarily with web software and persists across multiple browsers.
- The speakers all test and the troubleshooting tests say they are working just fine. Occasionally, when testing the speakers, the control panel will give an error stating that they are in use by another program and that program needs to be shut down before they can be tested.
- all drivers are up to date and have recently been uninstalled and reinstalled
- the default audio device is set to the appropriate speakers
- I have had this problem with and without the Dolby Advanced Equalizer driver that comes as an optional sound update
- I have had sporadic luck with plugging in headphones, but often this does not give me any audio either.
I am unable to enter the BIOS (or the boot device and application menu) of my T530. When I press Enter at the 'Press Enter to interrupt normal startup' prompt, nothing happens. It just ignores my input completely. F1 doesn't do anything either.
Otherwise my ThinkPad is working fine, but I would like to change some settings (especially change the boot device, to boot from USB).
I've got a ThinkPad T520 and I just bought a Netgear N600 Dual-band Cable Modem Router but my laptop isn't seeing the 5GHz wireless network? Is it even capable of doing so?
View 7 Replies View RelatedI purchased a manufacturer refurbished Lenovo Thinkpad T410 2522EC8 a few days ago. My USB ports are simply not responding to anything. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. The only sign the USB ports show is when I plug in my mouse, the mouse lights up, but it doesn't actually work. Also, when I look under disk management, the only drives that show up are System Reserved, C: Drive, and D: Drive.

I wanted to get the thinkpad Ultra Dock but was confused on how i would determine if i should be getting the 90W, 135W or the 170W. I live in Canada, Ontario if it makes a difference.
I was also curious, whats the main difference between the basic dock and ultra dock. Is it worth it for me to get the ultra for work?
This computer originally had an issue with the 2100 Detection Error. This computer was previously built with no issues when it was imaged with our company's Windows 8 configuration in which I am highly sure our IT engineers have worked closely with Lenovo on. Also out of the tens of thousand computers that were imaged this way this is the only system I have dealt with that has this issue. I luckily had a good T440 I could test this system's SSD in. The hard drive appears to be fine with no issues. So that rules out to be the SSD. I ordered a system board under warranty and installed it. Everything so far responded fine with the system board replacement until I performed the model type/serial number and UUID update using my 1.86 maintenance update USB thumb drive. After that completed the computer froze on the Thinkpad Logo screen. I verified again for my piece of mind that the memory module and SSD was fine. Sure enough those components were tested fine in a known working T440. So I submitted the system board as a DOA with an explanation. I received another system board to replace with the DOA. I installed that system board to once again update the Model Type/Serial Number and UUID using my USB maintenance disk 1.86 thumbdrive to once again end up with a locked computer at the Thinkpad Logo screen. I have replaced a couple of other T440 and T540 system boards during this time also with using the same USB maintenance disk thumbdrive used for updating those system's model type/serial number and UUID. So I know the issue is not with the USB thumb drive. I am very frustrated with this system. I hate to keep submitting DOAs for the same system.
Since the BIOS is part of the system board and I have not had these issues with the many T440 system boards I have replaced successfully that performing a BIOS update is not a good excuse why this doesn't work on this particular T440 and since after replacing a system board under "DOA" and updating with the maintenance disk and froze there is not a way I can run a BIOs update on this system now right?
I just received a new T430 less than a week ago, and ever since I first handled it, the left palmrest has been making clicking/snapping sounds even under light pressure. This region of the palmrest appears to be above the SmartCard reader. Video of this phenomenon is below.

I bought a Roline DP to HDMI cable hoping to be able to watch HD content in my livingroom and not having to plug an extra audio cable as DP should carry sound too.
When I do the same as on the youtube video, I get the following settings in the control panels: [URL] ....
But there's no sound coming out of the TV. I've tried it on my SyncMaster PC/TV Screen and on my Samsung TV in the living room. On the TV in the living room, the windows audio manager shows the device, but it cannot be selected as show above. It stays grey.
I've got a T420s with discrete nVidia Optimus graphics (Quadro NVS4200M). Driver version is 1.2.19.0 for nVidia HD-Audio and 8.17.12.6696 for NVS 4200M. This information comes from the device manager. I installed my system from scratch and used ThinkVantage System Update 4.
Where the problem comes from? I could only imagine that the cable isn't capable of carrying audio, but that seems rather illogic, does it?
