I just recently purchased an Acer Aspire 5536-5883 with Vista. The problem is that it srtarts up kinda slowly. Could this be due to the endless amount of unneeded programs? If so, what can I safely remove?
Also, HOW do I remove items from just the start up? I seem to have forgotten.
I have a brand new Acer Aspire 5536 Notebook. It came pre-shipped with Vista which I did not want.
So I tried a fresh install of Win7 - formatted drive etc,. Machine takes 5+ mins to boot so I put this down to a compatibility issue and tried XP. However I have the same problem, fresh install with only updates installed and it takes forever to boot (even longer than Win7).
Once booted performance is ok (in Win7 it was near perfect). Any ideas, I am beginning to think it is defective.
I just bought an Acer 5536 from the local retail store. got it home and turned it on and was asked for a password to sign in as 1ZZZ ie user name is 1ZZZ it needs a password to get any further. the password hint is lala. tried calling support but they are closed.
Is this normal or has someone uswed this laptop before.the baox was not sealed when I got it of the salesman who assured me it was new.
I've just bought one of these as a "refurbished" item and have very mixed feelings.
The good thing is it seems to be quite a nice machine for basic computing.
The bad things include:
1. It has no ExpressCard port. I researched extensively prior to purchase, and most sites listing this model say it has such a slot. The Acer site doesn't, but that site doesn't mention the slot on my AS 2920. I really need such a slot to use my firewire card. Is there a guide anywhere to what the numbers and letters mean after the main Acer type number?
2. It came with Vista, but I thought it might be upgradeable to W7 as there are drivers on the Acer site, and it was a current model while the free upgrades were available. The latest bios, 1.11, still reports 2.0 in the slic dept. Can anyone suggest any way to progress this? Is any sort of cheaper paid-for upgrade possible?
3. I'd hoped switching on virtualisation would be easy, but nothing seems to appear in the bios. I've seen the other thread here. Frightening!
4. I've been running Windows 7 64-bit within the 30-day limit. The mouse driver from the Acer site breaks the touchpad's operation completely, so I've had to revert to the basic drivers. Other drivers from Acer seem OK. W7 seems to have fixed some of the networking problems seen in Vista, but why has the underscore suddenly become forbidden in a network name?
5. I'm planning to purchase W7 Professional if I like Win7 after about 25 days, or load Ubuntu or some other Linux instead. Anyone running Ubuntu on one of these?
while i was uninstalling programs i uninstalled something that disabled HUD when i press the volume/wifi/bluetooth buttons. It doesn't pop up and show on the screen anymore.
Also im having problems trying to get the scrolling on the touchpad to work anyone know how to fix these 2 problems?
A friend with a desktop PC discovered that by some weird key combination before boot, he could get into further bios screens and set timeouts for disk access etc.
I'm trying to find a way to switch off the Realtek device at the bios level on my AS 5536, with Phoenix bios. Is this possible?
My C762NR takes for ever to start up. It's driving me crazy! I only use it for internet and docs here and there. Any way to get it to boot up quicker?

The boot process takes 7-10 minutes before the login screen appears. Once logged in the sysrtem appears to be working fine. I have re-instaslled multiple times (using different disks) but no matter what I try it takes an age to boot.
Could my laptop be faulty - does anyone else have Win7 running on one these?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI just got an Aspire 5536 and I'm running some diagnostics on it. While running SpinRite to test the drive I'm seeing HDD temps as high as 58°C!
This is a WDC 320 GB Scorpio Blue drive rated with a maximum operating temperature of 60°C and it's in a brand new machine sitting on the desk (so the vents are clear).
Isn't this ridiculously warm for this laptop? Does anyone else have the laptop (or the WDC 320 HDD) that can give me some comparison numbers?
how to fit an internal bluetooth module to the 5536... or even know where the connector is located ?
I had a quick look under the memory and HDD panels but could only find the WLAN module (which i'm also upgrading to wireless n) but couldn't see anything obvious.
I have an Acer Aspire 5536 which is running Windows 7. Recently, I have noticed that two of the On-Screen Symbols have gone missing.
Previously, when I pressed the Volume '+' or '-' buttons, a small Icon like symbol would appear on the screen showing a speaker graphic and a moving '|||||||' bar.
Also, if I pressed the button to disable the Touchpad, a symbol would appear momentarily showing that the pad had been disabled/enabled.
How I can restore these symbols?

View 4 Replies View RelatedPurchased in 2009 with free upgrade to Win 8.1 Pro. Has been a great computer up to now. On power up, LED's and fan come on but screen is black. Can not see anything behind screen when shining a torch on it. Has worked twice since fault appeared, once on re-boot and once when pressing DEL key. Replaced battery on motherboard and tried combinations of the two RAM boards. Still not working. Have recovery disks, but they are for the old Vista software.

Actually reinstalling the Intel Video driver solved the problem. When I was going to install video driver, it was said that a newer version is already installed. However neglected that and downgraded the video driver. that 8.1 is faster than 8.you install the latest driver given in dell website.
Looking for a Boot Disk or Start up disk for an Aspire 4720Z or a place to download one. She has been doing finals etc for the past week without it at college.

I boot up and get on line, and then I have a 30 - 40 sec wait every single time I try to change screens.
The problem is not booting up, or even getting on line, but it takes too long to get from screen to screen once I am on line.
Before I throw this away, as I can not return it, please, what do I do with this $300 doorstop?
i did a test in HDtune and i found something strange :
ide mode : burst speed - 120mb/s
cpu usage : 6,7 %
AHCI mode : burst speed - 68mb/s
cpu usage : 21% ( no mistake )
is this normal ? Hard disk is WD scorpio black 320gb
in HDtune i see that my hdd is set to ide - 100mb/s instead of sata
also when i connect a usb device ( after 3 connects especially) i get a BSOD and the error 0x0000008E .
I never got this error before and it all started 1 month ago, out of the blue.
I have two Acer netbooks and they both run much slower when running on battery, particularly when browsing the internet. I've changed the power settings to "Always On" and "Home/Office" and it helps, but it's still not as good as when plugged in. Does anyone have any suggestions on anything else I can do? Also, does "Always On" or "Home/Office" provide faster performance when on battery power?

I've tried every power option and while "Home/Office" seems to work the best (even better than "Always On"), it still runs slower than when plugged in. I'd like to get the same performance on battery that I get when plugged in, even though I understand I may have to sacrifice battery life. Its currently running extremely slow and struggles to perform basic tasks my older lower spec xp laptop had no problems with, such as playing music from my external hdd. Startup seems to take an age also.

My mom has an Acer 532h 450N netbook and she complains that its slow. I go and take a look at it, disabled most of the junk that came pre-loaded with window 7 starter and installed the latest bios. CPU at 100% for youtube 360p, can't even smoothly scroll through PDFs. I restart it in safe mode which runs at 20 processes and cpu usage is constanly at 35-40% during idle state. I myself never owned an atom based netbook, are they this slow?

A friend of mine gave me a Acer TravelMate 2310 with Win XP Home to fix.
The laptop doesn't have any malware, has almost no software installed apart from Windows, Office, but is totally unusable when it reaches the Welcome Screen, I sometimes manage to login with any of the accounts but can't do anything else (it's too slow; can't even open Task Manager).
If I go to Safe Mode it works normal.
I used System Restore to go back in time a couple of months (she assures me she had no problems then), that failed. So I restored the PC by bootin from DVD and went back 2 years ago...same result. I also restored to the Factory Default using the partition...again I have an unusalbe laptop...unless in Safe Mode, this is a clean install I have now.
I checked the disk using SpinRite (no errors), if I go to Safe Mode I can see a couple services (System Event Notification, DCOM) fail to start when doing the normal boot to Windows.
Since everything works fine in Safe Mode I assume it's not the hardware, but I can't understand why it's unusable using even with the Factory Defaults.
I have an Acer 8930 with the Intel WiFi Link 5100. I updated the driver to version 12.4.3.9. When I transfer a file to my moviebox (connected to a Netgear Rangemax Router via cable) I only get up to 1.2 MB/s as speed. When I transfer via my IMac I can get up to 4.5MB/s.
Looking into the advanced properties settings of the Intel WiFi Link I noticed under Wireless mode the following options:
1. 802.11a
2. 802.11b
3. 802.11g
4. 802.11b/g
5. 802.11a/g
6. 802.11a/b/g
Option 6 is selected, but should there not be an N option?
Even as I am typing this it takes like 4 seconds for the words to appear on the screen!
I have an acer 8930g which is one of the better models (904g50bwn) it has a quad core q9000 proecessor 2ghz 6mb l2 cache and 4gb ram, i installed a 2nd 500gb hd and have 1000gb in total.
I have installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit (original copy) and it came with vista hp 32 bit
I am at the moment only running firefox with only about 18 tabs (Normally have around 50) memory usage is about 65% but cpu is 100% most of the time when using firefox.
Normal use cpu usage is 20-30%!
I spent £1200 on this laptop having never spent more than £650, the attraction was the blu ray player and big screen along with good spec. It is performing worse than my old toshiba p300!
I expected a big difference in performance but I am just having these issues.
Is the issue that I am using windows 7 or do you think my machine could be faulty? It does NOT get hot when using it like my toshiba did but it just gets sluggish very often. Also when using task manager it says firefox using 30% cpu usage and no other processes using anything yet it says 100% - doesnt add up?! Does anyone know what that means?
I've been trying to get Vista Ultimate to run on my laptop for a while now, and every time I install using a clean installation, it runs painfully slow. If i have more than one window open its not even worth using. So I always run back to XP and I'll be honest in saying that I'm quite bored with it.
