Acer :: 5670 Upgrade
Jun 19, 2009
I have a Acer 5670 laptop and I am wondering if anyone knows where I can find 2 things I want to upgrade for it.
The first is a 7200rpm hard drive instead of the 5400 it has right now.
The second is, I would like to increase the memory for 2gb to whatever I can fit.

I own an Acer Aspire 5672AWLMI (5670 series) Inter Core duo 1,7, 2GB Ram,
Ati Mobility Radeon x1600, 120GB SATA HD @ 5400rpm.
I am thinking of making 2 upgrades after 2 years of great functionality (despite the fact that it rises high temperatures and i mostly use it on Thermaltake's TaiChi cooler)
1)Upgrade exesting HD to
Hitachi Deskstar 500 GB Internal SATA Hard Drive
7200 RPM, 16 MB Buffer - Serial ATA 3.0 Gbps
2) Upgrade RAM to 3 or 4GB
The reason i am writing is to ask if this Hard drive is compatible with my mobo or should i try to update BIOS or is not compatible at all.
What is the best option for RAM - modules, vendors etc

I installed the Acer Webcam software & driver and just the driver separately, the download files came from the Acer website. Neither of these allowed me to use my webcam.
When I first got the laptop, the camera was working fine, so it isn't a hardware problem. I recently changed my OS to Windows XP Pro SP3.
The software (both the Orbicam software and the thing in My Computer for windows that usually lets you use the camera) say that another software is using the camera.

My orbicam is functioning properly but when I close my laptop lid, my computer makes a sound and when I open the lid, my computer says that new hardware was found. This "hardware" is recognized by my computer as "Acer Orbicam #2" which means for some reason, my laptop thinks that a new camera is installed or plugged in everytime I close and open my lid.
Also, it searches for a usb driver that it says the camera can connect to to go faster. But there is no actual camera, it is just recognizing my orbicam twice for some reason. This causes a problem since after awhile, when I close and open my lid, my computer goes blue screen and restarts on me.

I own an ACER Aspire 5672Awlmi (5670 series) notebook
Intel Core DUO 1,73
120Gb SATA @5400
ATI Mobility X1600 up to 512hypermemory
2Gb DDR2 Ram
etc
My only problem is its temperatures from the first day i bought it - especially during summer months.
I found some threads that mention downvoltaging as a possible solution and o downloaded all the appropriate software. The thing is that my CPU temperature remains at 84 - 90 C and as all tutorias agree i need to make experiments to see over which voltage my laptop is not crashing and having blue screens. Has anyone set up a similar laptop (or a laptop with similar configuration) to tell me the voltages used to make it run?

I have just bought a 4GB kit for this machine, Acer 3012WTMi, and with the two new modules in place the machine will not boot. I simply get a black screen with no chance to enter setup. If I use one of the new modules with one of the originals then it works and recognizes the amount of memory fitted. I can use either of the new modules in either of the two slots but not both.

I checked with Acer and Crucial.com to determine that I could upgrade from 1GB to 4 GB , removing the two existing 512 MGs and installing two 2 GBs in their place. When both 2 GBs were installed the computer would not boot. After checking with Crucial tech
I tried with just one of the 2 GBs and then the other. Each worked fine individually.
I then downloaded the Vista Flash BIOS 1.32230 and after some help from the Acer tech people was able to install it. It did not change anything. Finally Installed one of the old 512 MGs with one of the new 2 GBs and that worked. Am now running on 2.5 Gigs which is an incredible improvement especially with the Vista OS. If anyone has been able to update to the full 4 GBs please let me know what I've missed. Incidentently, the 2 GB RAM can be ordered online from crucial.com for about $21 and installation is a snap ( about 5-10 minutes ).

I dont know why my laptop was lost 800MB of RAM, after I upgraded 4GB (2x2GB). Both, Windows XP and BIOS, have recognized 3262KB of RAM. After that I attempted to check with each of RAM, Windows XP and BIOS recognised 2GB. The problem is both RAM equipped at the same time.
I tried to update AMD processor but I found that the software, ver 1.3.2, is older than the current BIOS, 1.36. So it didnot affect.
What happen to my laptop?
ACER 4520: AMD Turino 64x2 Mobile Technology TL-58, 2x1.9GHZ
RAM Currently: 4GB (2x2GB)
NVIDIA Geforce 7000M
HDD 160GB

I received my free Acer upgrade disk from 32 Bit Vista HP to 32 Bit Win 7 HP. The disk says: The Disk Contains 32-bit Software Only
I understood from reading various forum sites that the upgrade disk contained BOTH 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Win 7, and by electing to do a "custom" clean install I could install the 64-bit version.
How come Acer only includes the 32-bit on the free upgrade disk?
Is there a way to install a "free" version of the 64-bit HP rather than the 32-bit version?

I have an acer 6920g which i intend to upgrade to the maximum possible starting with the cpu, after a bit of research the only contenders are the T9500 and the X9000 but im wondering if its worth it for the x9000 as i believe the bios is locked out on my acer so wouldnt be able to overclock it.
Even still it is 200mhz faster than the T9500 but am i going to notice this in the real world?
Next will be memory, apparently the chipset only supports up to pc5300 667mhz ram but will take pc6400 800mhz ram and downclock..
So to confirm, there is no gain in putting in faster ram?
Either way i will be putting in 4gb of decent low latency ram.
Now for a tricky 1, graphics......
I currently have an ati hd3650 512mb card that resides in an mxm2 slot which when i bought the laptop was the best gfx card i could find in it but no i want to put a 9600gt in to compliment the rest of the upgraded system (as i do play the odd game!) but have not found anything confirming if they work fully, i have found a card on ebay that has an acer bios and is ddr3, i'm assuming that with an acer bios it should work?

Also i will be putting in a large but fast hard drive such as this

I had bought an Acer laptop with Vista Home Premium 32 bit in the period before the launch of Windows 7, and applied for the free Windows 7 upgrade kit.
Acer sends an upgrade disc that is of the same type as your Vista OS.
So I got an upgrade disc for Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, as well as a product key on the COA.
What I want to ask is whether it is possible for me to install Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit through a clean install by finding a friend with the normal retail Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade DVDs, using the 64 bit DVD and then entering the product key that came with my Acer 32 bit Windows 7 HP upgrade disc.

My 6920G has a Geforce 9500M GS card in it atm. I have overclocked it as far as it will go and tbh, I'm still not happy.
What is the best compatible upgrade?
Am I right in thinking it's MXM-II and therefore the best card would be a 9600GT DDR3 that is found in the top-spec 8930G Aspires?
Is there anywhere that sells these cards with the Acer BIOS already installed?
I'm guessing a card from another brand laptop or with generic BIOS won't work?

purchased and installed a 1.6ghz tk-42 cpu in my ferrari one netbook, the bios detects it as a 1.6ghz cpu but i cannot get it to run @ 1.6ghz in windows without using 3rd party tools. tried reinstalling windows 64/32bit and it always boots @ 1.2ghz (default cpu clock). Does anyone have any idea how I can sort this out? Possible bios hack etc?
I can run without my external graphics card fine @ 1.6ghz, with it the machine crashes constantly.

Right now my Aspire one only has 1GB of RAM, which I guess is enough but 1.5GB won't hurt it at all. I was curious about the size and speed.
IF I bought a 2GB stick of RAM would it be regocnized? Also If I bought 800 MHz RAM what would it be clocked down to? Right now it's running at 533 Mhz I think, but CPU-Z is saying it's PC-5300 RAM. CPU-Z also says that I have one empty slot? What's that about? I thought that the Aspire One has 512MB built in and had one slot for a stick of RAM? Any ideas about CPU-Z is saying?
As all of you folks know, nearly every netbook has the GMA 950. The Aspire One is no exception to this. My One's BIOS will not let me choose the amount of RAM it's using for graphics. It says 8MB in a greyed out form. This means it's adaptive though because I can play AOE3 on it which requires 64MB. How can I choose how much RAM it uses?

I have an Acer Aspire 5315 and wonder which hard drives are compatible with this laptop.
It used to have the stock 80Gb but I upgraded that to a Fujitsu MHY2160BS (160GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA) straight off. This has now failed so looking to replace.
possible 7200RPM drives to use in this laptop or alternatives to the above?

i currently have a TM 5720 with 2GB of ram. I was thinking of upgrading it to 3GB. I was wondering if you think it will make much of a difference and whether any of these would be suitable (already done a small bit of research)
i cant post any links but had seen a few on play.com
2gb pc 5300 200 pin
would it matter that there would be 2 different types of RAM in the laptop.
