I have got a acer aspire 6930g with nvidia geforce 9300m seperate card graphics, can these be upgraded?
Also, what other upgrade options can I do for this laptop?
Also, it has bluray player, I have the right player but has started saying I do not have the correct driver to play even though it used to play them fine?

This is my current laptop:
Acer Aspire 6930G
T5800
4 GB RAM
500 GB 7200 RPM
9600M GS
I've upgraded my HDD recently and now have a spare. I've though about adding in a second one into the second bay but those two legs are in the way. Has anyone found a distributor for the hard drive bay door that allows a second HDD or can anyone who has shaved off the legs tell me how much would be a safe length to shave off and what tool would be best for the job.
I've also considered getting a T9900 online (after being put down that it can't support quad cores) and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully installed a T9900 into a Aspire 6930 or 6930G. It sounds fine theoretically but I'm not sure if the CPU would fry my motherboard or not without proper BIOS support. My BIOS is currently on version 3204 and for odd reason, Windows says I have no administrative privileges when I try to phlash it, so I haven't been able to phlash it to version 3236. If I can upgrade it to a T9900, I'm wondering if anyone who has done it before can make a short guide. I remember lucino mentioning that it is more difficult than most laptops.
I've also read on the forums somewhere on a post by aditya900 that the 6930G can supposedly support more than 4 GB of RAM, has anyone verified this? Since messing with video rendering programs and hosting GMod servers tend to use up a lot of RAM, I'm very interested in sticking in a 4 GB stick to get 6 GB.
I'm also interested in getting a ATI 4670 if it does come out in the MXM-II factor or the GT 130M or whatever is the most powerful at the time . I've cracked open the case and the video card is right at the top next to the removable plate.. I'm hoping that you can just slide out the card or do you have to disassemble the case and remove the motherboard in order to upgrade the video card. I'm really hoping it's not the latter. I am wondering if anyone has done this before......................

how to change the CPU (the GPU is easy) in 6930G.
This is a vague guide and quite clumsy so I have no responsibility whatsoever if you damage your laptop or you lose your data or anything bad happens to your laptop or you etc.
I have to mention though that there is another guide written by lucino but unfortunately he hasn’t finished it and there are no photos. His guide looks more appropriate and safer than mine which is a bit risky but much quicker. Here is the link. lucino's guide
I am not sure if there is an update or if he is planning to include photos and finish the guide.
You will need a cross-head screwdriver around 3.0mm (you don’t say!!!) but also a flat one
Please use some kind of protection from ESD (electrostatic discharge) like an antistatic or grounding strap or gloves. This will prevent the static sensitive components from being ruined (memory, video card, motherboard etc).
Sometimes I don’t use it but I know how to discharge myself (i.e. by touching a metallic surface) before touching the laptop........................

I may have the opportunity to pick up a cheap X9100, far cheaper than I could get say a T9800 T9900, both of which would be preferable due to 35W.
Acers literature states CPU's up to C2D 6mb are supported, I saw over here Acer 8930 - X9100 CPU update. that a user with an 8930g upgraded to an x9100.
Does anyone know if the laptop power supply etc would handle a 44W cpu, don't want to burn anything out?
Also heat may be a concern? The cooling system on this notebook appears more substantial than the average. Currently with my P9500 after 8 hours of stessing the max temperature is 63c, and thats on a fresh AS5 application without undervolting
I don't 'need' to upgrade to an X9100 but thought if it's cheap enough I might as well!

if anyone has dismantled their 6930?
I received my 6930 today and have a p9500 I want to replace the t5800 with, however Im stuck half way through dismantling it!
I've removed all the screws from the underside as it looks as if the heatpipe is attached somewhere under it, however it feels as if the underside casing is still attached somehow (possibly hidden screws?)
I tried popping the four tabs which hold the keyboard in on the topside, incase theres something under there, however they refuse to move also!
More than likely it's something small I've missed, or it could be I'm not applying enough force? Don't want to break something accidently though on a two hour old lappie
I'd be fairly confident pulling apart laptops- but this has me stumped..

I am looking for advice on upgrading my BIOS from v0.3204 to v3238. Current Laptop Setup:
Original BIOS v0.3204
Acer 6930G - T6400, 4GB DDR2 and 9600MGT 1GB Graphics GPU.
Plus the usual Hidden Acer Recovery Partitions.
I am currently using VISTA SP2 32bit but I plan to soon install Windows 7 64bit FULL CLEAN INSTALL.
The global acer website currently doesn't list my current BIOS (v0.3204) but does list a new BIOS of v3238 released NOV 2009.
Questions:
1. Is my laptop compatible with BIOS v3238 ?
2. Is it worth upgrading the BIOS to v3238 ?
3. Is BIOS v3238 needed for Windows 7 - 64bit to run better
4. Will VISTA SP2 still work with BIOS v3238
Additionally, if you look in the acer Bios zip file there is also a DOS folder containing the file zk2_3238.exe (eg DOSzk2_3238.exe).
5. Is it therefore best to create a DOS Boot USB DISK and Flash the Bios using the DOS EXE given above (since I have heard bad things about windows flash)?
6. And finally, once the new Bios v3238 has been flashed/upgraded, do you need to do anything else for the Laptop to function as an Acer Laptop (eg will it recognise everything)?

I have an Acer Aspire 6930g and want to upgrade its CPU, but I don't really know it enough to know what CPU to choose from. So far the "Fastest" cpu I can find right now is a P8600 2.4ghz, when I am using a T5800 2.0ghz. Are there any better ones I can get right now that is compatible?

I have a Aspire 6930G, I want to upgrade to windows 7, from Vista. But this laptop came with Vista recovery CD's so the drivers are on those CD's can I still reformat and just put the drivers CD inside and reinstall them after I've changed to windows 7? By the way, I want to completely format the Hard Drive before I do any of this...

I've been searching around, but haven't found much info on upgrading some components of the 8920...I'll have to admit that my search skills are not top notch...
I'm leaning towards the 8920-6030 model, but there's a few things I'd like changed.
Can the CPU be upgraded? I'm thinking about slapping a T9x00 in there. Maybe a T9500 instead of the T8100. I know the CPU here isn't much of a bottleneck, but I'm a nut.
Can the GPU be upgraded? I looked at the manual that was posted here on the forum, and it showed a "GPU Socket". Does that mean I can pull out the 9500M and stick something like a 8800M GTX in it's place?

1) My processor is a P7350. I want to upgrade to P9400/P8600 in the future. Can I buy these processors in the open market and install it myself? Or do I have to send it to the Acer support office? Will my warranty become void?
2) Can I use XP on the 5930G? Vista and I don't agree.

After getting my new 1410, I was interested in finding out just how much a hard drive and RAM upgrade would help. I have a 1410 SU2300 which came with 2 1GB DDR2 Dual Channel 667 Mhz 5-5-5-15 RAM modules and a 160GB Western Digital Scorpio Blue. I made a list of fairly well known benchmarks, and ran them with various configurations using upgraded RAM (2 2GB DDR2 Dual Channel 800 Mhz 6-6-6-18 Corsair) and HDD (320GB Seagate Momentus 7200.4).
For testing, I wiped the drive, installed Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, and applied all the tweaks in the 1410 thread, including installing BatteryBar, RMClock, and a few programs of my own like Office 2007 and Dropbox along with the latest drivers for every component and all of the latest MS updates. Then, I installed the following programs for benchmarking:
PCMark Vantage x64 Professional - Overall performance indicator, provides scores for various areas of computer usage. Instead of running synthetic benchmarks, it runs scripts using standard Windows programs like Media Player and Internet explorer. Accurate and popular with repeatable results; probably my favorite benchmark.
PCMark Vantage x86 Professional - Same as x64 version, shown for 32 bit comparison – can only address 3.5gb of the 4.0 installed
Passmark Performance Test 7 – Synthetic overall benchmark, could not be completely run due to directX issues. Not very repeatable or accurate, I personally dislike it.
IOMeter – Hard drive benchmark, sends repeated IO requests and measures operations completed per second in various configurations. Reasonably repeatable, very accurate, much better at providing an overall performance indicator then synthetic sequential readwrite HDD benchmarks.
Everest Ultimate – Memory, CPU, and HDD benchmarking options. Not very repeatable or reliable.
Geekbench x86 – Memory & CPU benchmark. Somewhat repeatable, fairly inaccurate.
Geekbench x64 - Same as x86 version, allows for comparison between x86x64.
Crystal Disk Mark – HDD benchmarking program using various file sizes. Results given in MBs. Very accurate and repeatable, my favorite sequential readwrite testing program. Used 9 pass 1GB file settings.
3dMark 06 (3dMark Vantage couldn’t run) – 3d graphicsCPU benchmarking program. Repeatable, reliable, accepted standard.
HD Tune Pro – HDD benchmark, requires a non-window partition for write tests. Fairly repeatable and reliable, another ‘staple’ benchmark......................

I have a new(ish) Aspire 5580-6974 notebook:
Core 2 Duo (T5300) 533 MHz
1GB RAM, etc.
I just bought a 2GB DDR2 PC2-5300 dual channel memory kit; that should be a relatively simple upgrade.
I want to eventually upgrade the CPU to the T7600, which is 677 MHz. The intel 945GM chipset should support that, but is it just a matter of dropping in the new CPU? Or are there changes to be made on the motherboard (jumpers, etc)? There doesn't seem to be any such setting options in the BIOS.

I own an Aspire V3-571G Notebook with ArchLinux dual-booting Win8.1. When I'm starting Arch I get this (Ivybridge-/Sandybridge -related) error:
"[drm:cpt_serr_int_handler] *ERROR* PCH transcoder A FIFO underrun"
After research I think a BIOS Update should fix the problem. But in the BIOS-section there is a confusing line:
"BIOS - UEFI for Windows 8 (Not for Upgrades)"
So, does that mean:
a) not for those who had Win8/8.1 pre-installed (like me) or
b) not for those who have run an inplace upgrade of Win7 to Win8/8.1 instead of a clean install.

One main upgrade I would like to do is the video card. My manual says that some models come with a NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300 128 MB of dedicated GDDR2 VRAM w/ Turbo Cache.
I know there is more info than needed in the Everest Stats, but hopefully nothing was left out that is pertinent to my issue.
Hopefully the right eyes will find this post and I can get the answers I need to successfully upgrade my laptop, thanks in advance for taking a look!

I just bought myself a new laptop, ACER ASPIRE 6930G. Got home, booted up Vista, did the formatting for it, all is well. It begins installing 21 files that came with it, so I shrug it off and go to pass the time.
I return and it appears to be stuck on number 13. InstantOn Arcade. It was like this for a good hour and a bit. So I try to use the laptop while it installs and lo' and behold it's frozen. I reboot and it continues to install from file number 13 again. 5-10 minutes into it, it freezes, again. This continues to happen each time I boot it up.
Now I reboot again, this time closing the installation before doing anything, and I get about 10-15 minutes into using the laptop and again, it locks up.
I'm really concerned as I've been looking to purchase a laptop and this one stuck out for me and now it works this well? /sarcasm.

I updated my GPU to 186.03 driver
and probably since I updated it my fan doesn't work very well
first because my iddle temperature is 60-64 and I don't hear my fan working.
I tried to use Riva, EVGA,etc. Probably the most famous program that people use to control their GPU fans.
So this is my question... how can I speed up or actually MAKE my fan work

I'm just bought an Acer Aspire 6930G and here's how my partitions look now:
Now I want to divide the partition C: into 3 partitions as following :
1.Windows Vista (The Current One and must stay as it is now)
2.Windows XP (Want to install it and use it as my 2nd OS)
3.Accessories (Just Some Files)
I've already tried shrinking them but failed as there's already 4 partitions exist in my HD! So my questions is how can I create the partitions as the way I want it?
I Haven't made backup dvd's yet so the current windows musn't be harmed and New partition should allow me to install new windows (XP) and use it as my 2nd OS

So far I think its a great notebook for the price. I have'nt ran into any serious issues.
1. Sound - When playing music the sound is ok, However with Bluray or DVDs the sound is very low, even on 100% volume level. I tested the Bluray disc that came with it and the DVD to Twister, and in a quiet room its too low to capture all the details of the sound.
Agian music (ie.MP3s) sound fine, but movies are very low. I tried enabling the Dolby Pro IIx but that didn't help.
2. Webcam - How exactly do I turn it on/off. I found the crystal eye software that works with it automatically turning the camera on, but it has no options to do anything with it. No record button or anything.
I read that Windows Movie Maker can be used, but it does not detect the camera at all.
3. Acer Arcade Deluxe. - The album art of the music that I add does show up. I have them embedded in the idtags, They show up in Vista Media Center however.
4. This is probably more of a Vista issue, but I noticed the hard drive is constanly being access most of the time, and I can't figure out why.
I googled and learned about potential culprits like Superfetch, and Search Indexing, Auto defraging, and Malware Scanners. And after disabling all of that the drive still read/writes like crazy when its idle. In Task Manager, I've discover that a file lsass.exe and svchost.exe are the primary culprits, but I don't know if and how I should disable them.

I'm not really sure if I should be putting this here or make a specific thread in the gaming section to ask specifically about the GPU there.
Anyway, I am looking to find out what the average CPU and GPU temps of the 6930G people are seeing while gaming.
I noticed while playing certain games that my 6930G gets rather hot and while I know notebooks generally run hotter then a desktop I am not really sure if the temps I see are normal or not. I have not seen any real decrease in performance while gaming, nor have I had and other problems with the notebook. I am currently not running a notebook cooler but I will be purchasing one very shortly. The fans and vents are regularly cleaned out.
Here are some temps I am seeing using HW Monitor with my 6930G at idle and during gaming while room temp is 22*C,
Idle
-CPU=46*C
-GPU=55*C
Gaming
-CPU=85*C
-GPU=90*C sometimes hitting a max of 96*C for a second or two
Changing graphics setting in the game have no effect on temps I am seeing.
Oh and the video card in my 6930G is a 9600m GT 512mb GDDR3.
So are the temps I am seeing normal? What temps do you see while gaming with your 6930G?

Just got Windows 7, and have installed 64-bit to my Acer Aspire 6930G. I'm having some issues getting the graphics and sound "just so".
Have tried a number of drivers from the Acer website, but I cannot get the Tuba bass thing to play, and the sound is currently pretty bad.
Also working out what Nvidia drivers are the best to use is proving unusually difficult. Windows 7 automatically downloaded some when I first booted, 186.52, are these good to use? They are not available from Nvidia, just 186.51. With either of these drivers I don't seem to have full control over how to scale images, I'm forced to use my display's scaler.
I don't have any of the Acer empowering softwate installed, I tried checking out the Acer website, but I'm having difficulty working out exactly what would be best to use with Windows 7 (or if I should use it any at all.)
Windows 7 seemed to intall drivers for most items, so I don't know what I need to install manually. I no longer have any "Acer Crystal Eye Webcam" software, for example, and cannot find this for download either?

I know PCs inside and out, build my own etc. I have recently bought my first laptop ever (6930g-6762, in canada, since they seem to be different in various countries?).
I have some questions.
1. My on board speakers sound like crap. They sound like unpowered speakers, very tinny and very distorted. HDMI output and speaker out both sound great, when I bypass the onboard speakers.
2. Do I need all the Acer software? I'd like to delete the hidden partitions, repartition the drive and do an install from a 'normal' Vista x64 DVD. I can't believe all the bloat that comes with a laptop.
3. Is a regular install the same process as for a regular PC? ie, install windows then all the drivers etc...or must I make a vlite DVD?
4. Can I use my OEM license on a retail DVD image?
5. How do I use the volume slider, and media controls (the lit up blue ones) on the PC itself? are they touch sensitive? I'm not sure mine work...

I've had the laptop for just over a month now, and so I thought it would be a great idea to install Linux on it just to see what it was like.
I installed it and all was well. But then when I shut down to go back to vista that's where all my problems began
I now can't boot to vista or linux as it says Grub Error 22 and then it moved onto Grub Error 17
I've been trying to find ways to fix this for a day or 2 and my laptop is just sitting on my desk being idle
I've burnt recovery disks btw and they didn't work
So I'm wondering as a last throw of the dice, can I buy a new harddrive and just take my current one out. And put this new one in.. Use recovery disks and then it should install vista for me?
