Acer :: 9920G GPU Options

Apr 12, 2010

A few days ago I booted up my laptop but only the lights appeared and the drives span up. The screen remained black and blank. I looked through a lot of information on the sysmptoms but none of the suggestions worked. However when I removed the Nvidia 8600m and booted up the system went all the way through to the Windows music. This makes me think the GPU has died which seems to be a commone occurrence.

My question is has anyone successfully replaced the 8600m with another GPU on the 9920G? I'd rather not put the same model back. The ATI HD3650 seems a good alternative but may not be completely compatible.

The only source of replacement GPUs seems to be eBay hailing from Hong Kong or China.

so I can "unbrick" my 2 year old laptop. I'm running on Windows 7.

Acer :: What Processors I Can Upgrade To On My 9920G

May 16, 2009

what processors I can upgrade to on my 9920G?

From what I've read, I have need to be careful not to choose one that will overheat the system. So how do I find out what the limitations of the board are?

I had an earlier post about my laptop croaking (dead motherboard). Which Acer wouldn't fix because it said the mobo wasn't available anymore. It IS, in fact, still available from the factory, so I've found one through an exchange program and will be replacing it myself. Which makes me think that Acer is a bunch of monkeys - but that's another saga altogether.

Since the processor on this thing is a little underpowered, I thought I might upgrade that while I'm at it.

Acer :: 3610 (3614WLMi) CPU Options

Oct 21, 2008

in plain English, with no mention of pinmods etc, what can go in this?

The sticker on the ram has two references:

554E1010015430136EKS00
MBA74010015430136EKS00

And the manufacture date seems to be late 05.

I'm not massively worried about a major speed increase, more a cooler running less battery killing CPU. From reading on here it seems a 725A should work, but what about a 725? i can't seem to find any differences between the two other than model number!

Stripping the whole thing to change the CPU isn't a prospect that thrills me, so I want to be sure I'm fitting something that works, and as I'm tight I want to be buying as cheap as possible - Seems there's a few s/h 725 CPUs kicking around cheaper than 725A's at the moment

Acer :: 1410 Broken Hinge Options

Mar 16, 2010

i dropped my netbook last night and cracked the left hinge. the hinge itself actually seems like a two piece and snapped back together, however it looks like it completely broke off the body.

the netbook looks like it still works, but im wondering what my options are, if any?

im assuming the standard acer warranty doesn't cover this...is it worth trying to fix myself, or is that even possible? should i just pray it keeps working and just hope for the best?

Acer :: I Killed The Motherboard In 5315-2315 What Are My Options

Feb 4, 2009

Let me start by saying that this forum is EXCELLENT source of information.

Now let me give a short history...

I had upgraded CPU before in Laptop (in my Acer 3680). So I decide to upgrade the CPU in my Acer 5315 as I gave my 3680 to my brother. I also have a work laptop which has a T7200 processor. My Acer 5315 has Celeron M 530 - from my research it should be ableto upgrade since it has the 965 chip. Before I buy any new CPU off of ebay I wanted to test and see if the Acer supports T7200 (Core 2 Duo) since I had the other laptop at hand I decided to try to work with that first.

So I disassembled the Acer 5315 took out the CPU (its very easy access) - disassembled my other laptop got the T7200 out and I put it in the Acer 5315, put it together and boot the system... Nothing... Thats when I realized that out of my infinite wisdom I had forgot to remove the battery in the Acer 5315...

So now I took the battery out, took the T7200 out from Acer, put it in my other laptop and guess what... the other laptop does not work either.... I put the celeron processor back in the Acer 5315 and it does not work either.....

So now I am out 2 laptops. My work laptop is under warranty so thats already being repaired... no worries there. But I think that I have fried hte motherboard and CPU in the Acer 5315. I tried to reset the CMOS but to no avail.

What are my options now? Here are my thoughts
1. Sell the laptop for parts on ebay and buy a new one - I think it will go for like 50-60 may be 100 if I leave the HDD and Memory in. New Core 2 Duo will cost atleast 600 for a decent one.

2. Get a new motherboard and CPU and fix the 5315 - I checked ebay and it seems that the mother board is like $200 - I dont think its worth it unless I can be sure that it will support Core 2 Duo processors - which over all will nd up costing me like $270 - still cheaper than new one.
--- Does any one know where I can find cheaper motherboards for laptops?

3. Not sure if this is possible - can I get a desktop/other laptop motherboard that will fit and work in my Acer 5315 frame? I dont think desktop motherboard will be possible - but what about other company laptop motherboards?? Can I find some aftermarket parts?

My touchpad is working but I can't use multigesture options.

As anyone tried a zif to compact flash adapter ?...would this be advisable?

Dell :: Best Screen Options?

Apr 6, 2009

I currently have a latitude x1, it served me well, but it's time to upgrade. My options are something within the 13"-15" screen range --no more external disk drives--such a pain in the backside. My main concern with which i need assistance is what

Dell screen would be best visually? My position requires extensive computer use so I need a screen that would be best on the eyes. What i noticed with my current model is that it puts a lot of strain on my eyes. Perhaps it is the brightness, or perhaps it is the actual quality of the screen, in any case I need help selecting an appropriate model for me.

I specifically want to go with dell because I receive a discount through them.

money is not an issue. I primarily use my notebook for MS Office applications, media editing, and web browsing -- occasionally play a game or two or watch a movie.

My current options are Vostro 1320
screen options- 13.3 ultrasharp WXGA LCD w/true life
or, -anti glare 13.3 WXGA.

XPS Studio 13
-Edge to edge 13.3 HD WXGA LCD

Dell :: 1545. Options?

Mar 20, 2009

I bought a Inspiron 1545 in the outlet section, got it for $420 with a coupon I got off ebay.

I got the laptop and I absolutely love it! But there is a problem, the graphics card driver keeps crashing, this is an annoying problem and I think it might progressively get worse, so I'm worried.

My options so far that I can think of are:

Do a complete OS reinstall (can I use my dell cdkey to reinstall vista?)

Send it in to get fixed, if that's the case, what kind of fixing will they do?

Thanks.!

Sony :: Vaio Z: SSD Options

Mar 16, 2010

I attached a screenshot of the config options for Hard Drive for a Vaio Z.

I thought that the x1 or x2 would mean 1 and 2 drives of the given size, for example: 192GB (128GBx1 + 64GB+1) would mean ONE 128GB drive and ONE 64GB drive.

However, I am confused after reading posts here. It seems the 192GB option is actually 3 64GB drives?

Is 256GB really 1 drive or 2 128s or 4 64s? Their page says 1 256 which I don't believe.

I am also interested in the config for 384 and 512.

I love the Sony Z but the 1600 resolution is holding me back from recommending to a client because he can't stand those very high resolutions. We purchased a FW series (16.4" w/ 1920 res) and that was too high. 1600x900 looks even worse on a 13 inch.

My question is, is there any resolution options with the Z to go lower?

The SR "Blue Label" series that Sony made for Best Buy is the perfect machine, except the for the fact that it doesn't have dedicated graphics or good battery life. Is there any way to get a Z with the lower resolution?

Dell :: Studio 15 Screen Options

Oct 21, 2008

I am stuck debating between the 15.4 WLED (1440*900) and the 15.4 non-LED (1920*1200). I am just not sure which I would prefer. If the WLED came in a 1920*1200 option I don't think I would be so concerned.

I really like the size, weight, and potential power savings of the WLED screens but I am used to working on larger monitors (22 and 25 inch) running at higher resolutions.

What does everyone think about these two choices? Will I be happy with the WLED at the smaller resolution or is it better to opt for the traditional screen with the higher resolution?

Just so everyone knows the laptop won't be my primary computer but will get a lot of use while working on graduate work away from home, writing website code, and general use. The only gaming activity it might see is some occasional WoW.

Dell :: Studio XPS 13 Color Options

Feb 12, 2009

this is my first time posting, and i have a question.

i've heard that later on there will be different color lids for the sxps 13 and 16.

i understand that this is both a studio and an xps, so it makes me wonder if i can have cool designs on the top. i don't know how thats gonna fly with the leather, because black is the only color that i can think of that would go with it.

so heres my question: do you think that dell will release custom, or at least different colors for the sxps? possibly midnight blue, the RED one, white, brown, green. anything. and if you do, when do you think they will release the new options?

HP/Compaq :: HP DV7T Battery Options

Mar 11, 2010

[url]

running reasonably solid (and still on Vista!) I have definitely got my money's worth out of it like 1000X over .

Only a couple of issues - first, my charger went TU about 3 days before the 12 month warranty expired. I ran out and quickly snagged a Kensington replacement: pretty nice slimline that has multiple adapters, it's actually been handy as an upstairs 2nd charger. HP for the record, also sent me a brand new OEM replacement without too much hassle, just using on online service chat

OK, the matter I'm posting about: my battery has finally gotten wrecked to the point where it's good for about 15-18 minutes on performance, maybe 22-24 on low power settings.

I'd like to be semi-portable again so I'm weighing these options:

Another "stock spec" 8 cell, which I believe it a G08

I see HP offers (through various sellers) a "green" replacement, model G04. I don't think it has longer life, but it's supposed to be warranted for 3 years, plus offer a guarantee of much less charge loss (I think it's something like 95% availability the first year) and replaced pro-rated based on use. Sounds like a better option - the only thing I find peculiar is it's indicated as a 4-cell, with "8-cell" equivalent. I don't really case as long as it works!

My 3rd option is to go aftermarket with a 12-cell battery. The extra weight size isn't that big of a deal, and I even like the idea if the rear being elevated (in my office, I usually keep it hanging off the corner of the desk for better ventilation).
