HP Pavilion Dv6 OS/Software :: Cannot Use Dedicated Graphics

Apr 11, 2014

As already mentioned my laptop will only use integrated hd 3000 graphics while i have a 6770m onboard.

I have good drivers for both (or i assume since there's no warning in device manager). Whenver I try to play a game though, only the integrated graphics are available and it doesn't switch while playing because i get 20 fps on lowest settings while playing while i could play most games with up to 60 fps on high. Catalyst control center also has a problem while installing because my hardware version isn't supported even though the auto detect picked the download i need. It is a common problem with alienware laptops as far as i found on the web but these all have nvidia graphic cards.

I have a HP Pavilion dv6 6b50eb, my 6770m hardware id is PCI(slash)VEN_1002&DEV_6740&SUBSYS_3388103C&REV_00

HP/Compaq :: Difference Between Cache Video Memory And Dedicated

Mar 27, 2010

I am considering a new laptop. The HP I am consdering has ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 graphics with 128MB cache memory. The other I am considering is the Samsung R580 which has a smaller screen, smaller battery, but 512MB dedicated video. Since the HP has an 8 cell, it will get beter battery life.

So, the 4200 is integrated into the AMD Turion chip, yet has 128MB memory onboard for the graphics chip whereas the Samsung has a separate GPU?

Both laptops have bluray and are within $50 of each other in price.

Lenovo ThinkPad W Series :: W540 Doesn't Use Dedicated Graphics For AutoCAD 2015

Sep 10, 2014

I’ve got a problem with my Lenovo W540 and performance when working with AutoCAD 2015. Despite the fact that hardware configuration is powerful and installed graphics card is recommended by Autodesk I get lower performance then on 5 years old notebook. I suspect the issue to be in graphics card used by AutoCAD. It seems that program works on internal graphics card instead of discrete one. I have checked this in AutoCAD in “Graphics performance” window which shows: “Hardware Setup: Video Card : Intel HD Graphics 4600”. I looked for solution and tried two different Nvidia drivers:

1.  NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver 9.18.13.2768 [URL] .....
2. NVIDIA Quadro K1100M driver for Autodesk AutoCAD 2015 version 9.18.13.3311 (333.11) [URL]....

In both of them in NVIDIA control panel I've looked into settings and checked that for Autodesk AutoCAD, system will use NVIDIA high performance graphics. I have tried to turn this option as a global setting but I always get the same result - AutoCAD shows it uses integrated graphics. I have also looked into Intel HD Graphics menu and in BIOS setup but didn’t find any solution for my problem.

This is a fresh PC with following specification:
Lenovo W540
Processor: Intel Core i7- 4700Q
Graphics: Nvidia Quadro K1100M
Memory: 32GB
Disk: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 500GB
System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit) Pro (version: 6.3.9600)
BIOS: GNET61WW (2.09)

HP G6-2002au Display :: Changing Dedicated Video Memory In Notebook

Jul 1, 2012

I have a g6-2002au notebook, running Win7 home premium 64bit on dual core 64bit cpus, 2.7ghz clocks and an AMD Radeon 7520G gpu, that is mostly used to preview (for a class) movie projects created in a video editor.  And for video project files - stored on a usb stick inserted into one of the usb ports - that have a playing time longer than approx 4 minutes, the play presentation runs for a while and then becomes stuttering - pauses the image for a while, altho the audio continues, then the video seems to catch up, and after a short period repeats this stop and go activity.  Like the editor keeps running out of data faster than its work space is filled up.

I sourced equivalent (to the original brand and specs) RAM memory to increase the installed RAM to 8Gb without apparent impact on this.  A change of memory stick type - usb2 to usb3 - worked a bit but the issue remains.  And disciussions with others using notebooks - Toshiba's actually - did not have this problem.

The dedicated video memory in the machine is 512mb (windows display settings details), and this probably isn't enough for video editing.  With 8Gb of RAM now available, there should be plenty to enable me to increase the amount dedicated for video editing.  Changing that seems to be a bios function, but there isn't any apparent/accessible setting in the Insyde F.03 bios on the machine to enable me to do that.

So, the questions are,
1.  Can I increase the dedicated video memory on this specific notebook?
2.  if so, how?

HP Pavilion G6 Display :: 1350SD Dedicated GPU (7450M) Only Runs On Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Won't Switch)

Nov 5, 2014

I own this laptop for 2 years and still never had my dedicated videocard working. It didn't even work when I bought it off the store o.O so basically i got quite sick of it and tried to get it all fixed up, so I went through everything I could think of, just everything that "Might" fix the problem.

I tried all of this in Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. I've set the videocard options in the bios to both fixed and dynamic. Neither works.  All of the drivers have been installed, including the latest AMD Apu driver. (I tried the official one from amd.com and the one from the HP support centre) The graphics settings for both my Intel HD Graphics and my AMD Radeon HD gpu are set to maximum performance. Disabling the HD Graphics 3000 driver so it could only run on the AMD gpu didn't work either. (Actually, everything stopped working in an instance;p) Installing an older driver didn't work either. AC/DC has been plugged in the whole time (This should have effect when settings in bios are set on "Fixed". This was not the case)

I've tried a few more things but it's getting a little bit too long to read;p

Acer Aspire E5-572G-5577 :: Cannot Properly Work - NVidia 840M 2GB Dedicated VRAM

Nov 17, 2014

I recently bought Acer aspire E15 model E5-572G-5577 which came with i5-4210m (2.6 to 3.2Ghz),8GB RAM,Nvidia GeForce 840M 2GB dedicated VRAM,1TB HDD and freeDOS. Since i recieved Win8.1 x64 for my Birthday i bought this laptop without windows and installed 8.1, as Acer claims that fully supports this OS.

Everything was ok in installation and i even installed HD4600 driver but when installed Nvidia driver although it looked ok and it was shown in device manager the graphic card wasn't show in my display (only HDGraphics) and in nvidia control panel i had only the 3D settings option but still it seems that 840M hasn't kicked in.

I assume its the driver so after many attempt with different drivers i still have the same issue. The laptop is brand new and in OEM 8.1 it seems to work but not for all of us that have a bought copy of Windows. I have wasted so much money on a Acer with 840M GPU that wont work.

Acer Aspire One ZG8 :: Netbook Won't Load XP

Dec 14, 2014

5 years ago I purchased an Acer One ZG8 Netbook.  I have gotten alot of use although now I am facing a crash with Windows XP not loading.  I wanted to do a factory reset and see if there is any hope to keep this older Acer as a back up netbook.  After powering up the Acer One,,,Windows XP will not load.  I am faced with a black screen offering options:

1.Safe Mode
2. Safe Mode with Networking
3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Or Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked). Lastly, Start Windows Normally

Finally, it prompts me to use the down arrow keys to choose with a 30 second countdown ticker.

I HAVE tried all the options for weeks and weeks.  Just as Window XP loads a blue screen with word flash so quickly I can not possibly read it.  I am very very close to letting this older version Acer meet its maker --- although through my ignorance I have realized just maybe I could do some sort of factory reset.

Overclock or Underclock
-Download SetFSB
-Choose SLG8SP513v pll
-Click get FSB
-To underclock, select 100mhz (1.2ghz)
-To overclock, select 166mhz (2.0ghz)

Note: This only works if you have SLG8SP513v pll clock generator. If you have ICS9LPRS365. According to the acer aspire one service manual, these 2 clock generators are used. Acer might have also added some pll clock generator to the list, so it might not work for newer acer aspire one.

Undervolt Intel Atom processor
-Download CrystalCPUID
-Lock multiplier by either disabiling speedstep or enable speedstep to restricted the processor to 6x multipler (1.6ghz).
-Lower or increase the processor voltage

Overclock Intel GMA 950 graphic card

Acer Aspire One AOD257 :: How To Use External Projector With Netbook

Jan 12, 2015

I can't get the display configured to support using my TV as an external monitor.

There is an option under Control Panel -> Appearance to "Connect to a Projector".  That brings up a display "Computer Only", "Duplicate" or "Projector Only".  If I select Duplicate I see "1|2 Multiple Monitors" in my Screen Resolution selection.  But if I hit Identify it shows "1|2" both on my netbook LCD display.

After playing with this for a while I now can't even get the built-in display to work when I attache the VGA cable to my TV.  That causes the LCD display to go black.  I've played with toggling the display using the F5 key (also tried 6, though the icon on the F5 key seems to be the one I want).  That doesn't work.

There's a different way to display the Display Devices settings - by right-clicking on the desktop area and selecting Graphics Properties.  That brings up a different window which shows Operating Mode and Display Selection.  I've been able to get that to indicate a Multiple Monitor choice under Operating Mode and appear to allow me to choose what to display in the "Primary Device" and the "Secondary Device", but the pull-down choices for both of these only show Notebook.

Acer Aspire One AOA110 :: Cannot Charge New Battery In Netbook

Nov 14, 2014

I bought a new battery for my Aspire-One (AOA110) netbook.  I flashed the BIOS according to instructions and, after waiting for a day while the netbook was telling me that the battery was being charged, the netbook told me that the battery was 100% charged.  I disconnected the charging cable and, immediately, the netbook told me that I had to reconnect it because the netbook was out of power.  The battery charge had immediately dropped from 100% to 0%!

I have repeated the same operation several times, with identical results. Is the new battery defective?  Or should I do something else?

Acer Aspire One AO725 :: Battery Not Charging On Netbook?

Oct 25, 2014

I already tried the general fix for this offered by a few folks on Youtube and other sites, where you remove the battery and then uninstall the battery/power drivers in Device Manager.  Then turn off, put the battery back in and start up again, letting the drivers re-install afresh.  But this did not solve the problem for me.

Acer forums do not list this battery charging issue for the AO725 model, but they do mention it for a couple of other models of netbooks, saying that the battery will not charge once it reaches a state of complete depletion.  They instruct to update the BIOS.

Acer :: Aspire 5112WLMi - Graphics

Oct 16, 2008

Acer Specs...(purchased in 2006)
Acer Aspire 5112WLMi
Turion 64 X2 @ 1.66 GHz and 521kb Level 2 Cache (the TL50 Processor)
ATi X1600 card with 128 dedicated and 512 (shared) total graphics mb.

This 'top' worked flawlessly for a year or so, meaning... I played fps games on high configs... but lately, i've been having some graphic issues...

The game runs fine for about 15 min and then suddenly the frame rate decreases to 1 or even 0.5...this continues for 20 seconds and then normal frame rates resume for about 5 min... and then the process repeats... the vent heats up like crazy...

Now I do own a PS3 and an XBox 360, but sometimes I do prefer classic games(meaning 2006-07) on good old faithful...

I just hope i didnt fry the gpu because it did overheat before, but i just thought it was normal. Ofcourse if i new about this forum before none of that might have happened. Acer :: Aspire 5100 Graphics Card RAM

May 13, 2009

I purchased an Acer Aspire 5100 using it mostly for busines and writing. Now, I'd like to watch some videos, have an webcam, and play games, however, the integrated video card handles none of this well. It's slow and will sputter on something as simple as a short 60 second video clip.

I maxed out the 4GB Ram, thinking that Vista was using too much but it did not help.

Then I discovered this:

Quote:

For gaming, the graphics speed is enhanced care of the ATI Radeon Xpress 1100graphics card, with 128 MB dedicated memory. The card can tap into an additional 384 MB from shared system memory, for a total of 512 MB.

I did some research and found that I could go into the BIOS and change the memory from 128 to 512. I tried it, found the setting, changed it, and thought I'd find success. However, Vista somehow read these actions as an error and a failure to start, and would not start........................
