I'm looking at getting the Timeline 4810t with either the SU2700 or SU3500. Can anyone tell me any discernible differences I'll find between the two? Right now I'm looking at about an $80 difference between the two (also 1gb more ram with the SU3500).
Also, fyi this laptop will be for law school so it won't be very task intensive besides internet research, word processing, onenote etc.
Just got my new notebook and registered successfully for the win 7 upgrade.
I notice that the machine has 4GB RAM so it surely makes more sense to install Win 7 64 bit...? Anyway I have two other copies of the full version of Win 7 on pre-order for our home desktops which come with both 32 and 64 bit versions.
One of our desktops is generally used for office tasks so could I use the Win 7 32 bit upgrade intended for my Acer Timeline for that and do a fresh install of one of my full Win 7 home premiums on my new Acer Timeline?
Basically, is the upgrade locked to the associated Acer laptop?
I'm looking to buy a 14" Acer Timeline. They come in 2 variants at my place, the SU3500 and SU7300 processor. Which is better? I'm not really a gamer. I'm just looking for a smooth multi tasking, web and word processor experience.
perform dis test in ur comp ..... this is just to see how powerfull ur processor is in decoding h264 with divac decoder... i got dis from dooms9 thread divaC h264 codec thread....

I am looking into the SU3500 Timeline and was wondering if anyone could tell me how it would perform against a ML-32 processor, as I actually have a old presario laptop with that processor and would be interested in if it was faster or slower than that.
I have till Friday to exchange my Acer Aspire 1410 SU 3500 for the SU2300. I am seeing some people show the benchmark is much higher for the SU2300. Of course I would like to have the faster unit and better unit since I am spending $400. I dont do much gaming but I do alot of videos and work. am I better getting the Dual Core or just keeping my Single Core ?
One is marketed as business-grade, another is consumer-grade. Both look very similar and I am not sure if the materials used are any different. So tell me, as I am preparing to buy my next laptop.
I busted off a keyboard ZIF clip on a laptop I was working on. Now no matter what I try I can not get all keys to work. Contacted Dell and they can't give me the part number for the clip so I am able to order a new one.
Can anyone by chance identify the part number of the connector or have any ideas as to how to make all keys work again when fixing the cable in it.
Attached a few pics to help identify/see what I am working with. I'd really like to not have to shell out $120 on a used mobo just to replace it.
I just made a purchase of a 1410 for about $340 with an Intel Core 2 Solo SU3500 and 2GB ram. I plan to do a clean of install Windows 7 32-bit once I receive the laptop.
However one thing concerns me, how does the laptop fare with online Flash video streaming? I'm thinking it will do fine with 360p and 480p streaming, but is it able to run 720p or even 1080p smoothly?
Also, is this model able to multi-task somewhat? I'm not looking for anything extreme, but I'm wondering more about running multiple tabs in a browser or running Office apps with internet surfing, etc.
If not playable out of the box, are there tweaks to get HD flash playback smooth? I've heard of the new Adobe Flash 10.1 helping out with performance somewhat, but I'm wondering if it's a long wait before a cheap (sub-$400) netbook/sub-notebook can stream HD flash well that isn't an ION with Atom.
I've heard great reviews on the 1410 and like the purchase, but was just curious about some of the performance situations stated above.
the empty hole next to the clip where i clips the screen when you close it. To my guess is a 5-1 reader because i also have a modem port . My question is , is it normal that there is an empty hole with no casing inside? I mean there isn't a casing like for sd card or something , just an empty hole . What can i use it for since there is no casing for sd card? This is a picture i found from google.URL....
I bought the Acer 1410 with the single core SU3500 Core 2 Solo CPU. It looks like Acer decided to release them with the SU2300 now, which is dual core at 1.2GHz (compared with 1.4GHz of SU3500).
Does anyone have any benchmarks comparing the two, and/or if they have a solid understanding how much better it would perform compared with the SU3500? I also see that the single core AS1410 with Celeron M @ 1.3GHz sells at the same price as the dual core.
this thread is for all Acer Timeline owners who suffer from 100% CPU load, when only thing that helps is restart.
1. If you are a Timeline owner - having this problem or not, please do report here, what model you own and tell us how is this happening for you.
2. Please inform Acer about this, so they know and can offer a solution (especially if you're from United States as this will have greater impact rather than me telling this stuff to Slovak Acer service)
Alright, this is what I got so far about this thing: -CPU will just go nuts at no specific time (idle, browsing, ...) -Proccess explorer shows 'Hardware Interrupts' as source of 99.9% of CPU power -unlogging won't help, only restart does -updating BIOS doesn't help -uninstalling acer epower managment doesn't help, even though it seems making these episodes less frequent somehow
Mine notebook is: 5810T with SU3500 and GMA 4500MHD.......................
I have been trying to load a retail version of Windows 7 HP x64 using USB on my Windows Vista HP x86 Acer 1410. I am able to boot from USB and the Windows 7 install program starts. I select Custom Install to do a new installation (not an upgrade). After I select the partition to install to, I get an error message like "can't find a system drive to install to..." I have tried this on two different 1410's with the same results.
It was the particular USB SD Card Reader I was using. I don't have a 4GB USB drive so I was using a USB SD Card reader and an 8GB SD card. I switch to a different Card Reader (same 8GB SD card) and it worked first time!
5 years ago I purchased an Acer One ZG8 Netbook. I have gotten alot of use although now I am facing a crash with Windows XP not loading. I wanted to do a factory reset and see if there is any hope to keep this older Acer as a back up netbook. After powering up the Acer One,,,Windows XP will not load. I am faced with a black screen offering options:
1.Safe Mode 2. Safe Mode with Networking 3. Safe Mode with Command Prompt
Or Last known good configuration (your most recent settings that worked). Lastly, Start Windows Normally
Finally, it prompts me to use the down arrow keys to choose with a 30 second countdown ticker.
I HAVE tried all the options for weeks and weeks. Just as Window XP loads a blue screen with word flash so quickly I can not possibly read it. I am very very close to letting this older version Acer meet its maker --- although through my ignorance I have realized just maybe I could do some sort of factory reset.
My 4810T has the fan always on (not too loud, but on nevertheless...). I can't tell if it's because of the CPU (intel SU9400) or the GPU (intel gma 4500mhd).
Is there any option where I can control this? I'm on Ubuntu and I'm using the "CPU frequency scaling monitor" applet to throttle the CPU, but even in it's lowest frequency, the fan never shuts down.
I had installed Windows 7 and it was working fine but it blue screened and now it won't start. Fine, I decided I'd just reinstall it but if I put my flash drive in it will just stick at the Acer Empowering People splash screen and won't move for a while and then just goes to a screen about something being not connected and then it'll boot to the normal start Windows Recovery (Which doesn't work) and start Windows normally. If you try to start it normally it'll either stay on the Windows animation starting or get to login and then i'll input my password but it goes to Blue Screen.
I formatted the flash drive using this guide [url]
I've tried having USB FDD and USB HDD as the first boot option and still nothing.
I was looking at the Acer Timeline 3810t and I am thinking about purchasing it because the battery life is great and so is the performance. Yet, the one thing I found that may hold me from purchasing is the stiff mousepad buttons brought up in many reviews. I was wondering if anyone who has this laptop has experience with the touchpad buttons. Are the really stiff that it would annoy someone who uses their laptop on the go without an external mouse?
I uninstalled all the extra software that this laptop came with. One problem i am having is every SECOND start up, the computers loads very slow. The next time i turn on the laptop it will load really fast and all the icons and stuff will pop up right away. Then the next time it will be slow again, windows load then only the wallpaper visible, the icons on desktop and the start bar is not there for about 2 mins.
I tried to restart and i noticed it is always on the second start up.
Also i tried to format my laptop with XP on a usb stick. When i get to the set up, it can not detected the harddrive but only the usb stick.
My 2 yrs old Acer 5500 60 GB HDD crashed ...I replaced it with another new 80 GB HDD...now when I inserted win98 boot disk and typed fdisk its showing only two partions one 2047 MB and another some 8GB . I deleted the partitions and again created but C: partition isnt exceeding 2047 MB and rest 8GB
Anyways I inserted my Acer XP Rescue disks and installed windows ...After booting it says Invalid Partion Table
Now my question is that how do I make Windows recognize the right Hard disk size ie 80 GB and run it successfully
I already installed Ubuntu 8.10 Linux ...working fine ..It recognizes 74GB Hard disk..
