Aug 30, 2009I just installed windows 7 and used all the vista ultimate 64 bit drivers from acers website as well as installing the epower management. I have a few questions...
Which company do I pick for the webcam? I cannot find out which came with this computer
When I hit the green leaf, the icon no longer pops up on the screen, but it does seem to do the same thing as it did on vista, I just have no notification... is this normal for W7RC?

Nov 15, 2014today I bought a Acer Travelmate B115 (M41 RQ).
I has a rudimentary Linux installed, which I want to delete and then install a Windows7 Prof SP1 64bit from DVD.
After changing the order of the boot devices and putting the USB-DVD drive first the Travelmate tries to boot from the DVD but then tells me 'Security Boot Error'. I tried it more than 10 times, same error each time. The external USB-DVD drive is working fine on another computer.

I also prepared a bootable USB stick, but this one doesn't even get noticed by the Travelmate.

Aug 20, 2009I was thinking to upgrade to 64 bit windows 7.
I insterted the dvd and boot from it but when after clicking install button, it asks me to insert the drivers cd for my "dvd drive"... and if I dont insert it, it doesnt continue.. Any one wanna to help me?
My dvd drive is sony optiarc 7640s. I searched net, but cant found thd drivers.
Sony :: Z HD Install And 64bit Upgrade
Mar 9, 2009I opened up my Z last night and changed the stock HDD to a new WD Scorpio Black 320gb 7200rpm HDD. Aside from some difficulty with one of the screws already having a stripped head, it was a fairly simple process.
I turned the Z back on and installed Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 from the OEM disc that I bought for my custom-built desktop computer (to clarify, this means it's the official MSDN release of Vista x64 SP1 from March '08, w/ no embedded drivers), using the Vista product key under the bottom of my Z. All was well until the install completed and Vista rebooted... it gave me the blue screen of death. I shut down the Z and turned it back on -- same result. Then I started the Z and jumped into the BIOS immediately, took out the Vista install disc, and started -- this time it didn't blue screen and the Vista install completed and successfully booted to the desktop.
I was tired and went to bed at that point before installing any drivers, but I'm concerned that my install may be corrupted and that I should attempt it again (perhaps ensuring that I remove the install disc immediately upon the reboot?). Could the blue screen be an issue associated with my Vista SP1 disc not having the right SATA drivers for the Z? If that's the case, I may have to try to create a new Vista install disc with the drivers slip-streamed in.
Another odd thing was that, when choosing where to install, Vista saw the only partition on the HDD as "Disk 0 Partition 3." The HDD is brand new -- I remember back to when I installed Vista on my desktop and it saw my hard drive as "Disk 0 Partition 1." There was no missing space, it had the 298.9GB that you'd expect for a 320GB drive.

Nov 15, 2009I was looking at the Acer Timeline 3810t and I am thinking about purchasing it because the battery life is great and so is the performance. Yet, the one thing I found that may hold me from purchasing is the stiff mousepad buttons brought up in many reviews. I was wondering if anyone who has this laptop has experience with the touchpad buttons. Are the really stiff that it would annoy someone who uses their laptop on the go without an external mouse?

I fresh install win7, update drivers and it's the same deal. 10-15fps for a 10yr old game.
Anyone got a timeline enjoying these games?

Apr 3, 2009I had thought I saw the drivers for this on Dell before, but when I went to start installing, I saw there are now only Vista drivers.
Additionally, when I go ahead and try to install it, it blue screens during setup, very early, repeatedly.
Anyone have any luck with this?

The second-gen X25-M's extensive under-the-hood changes are capped by a new skin. Gone is the black exterior of the old drive; in its place is a bare metal casing that's gone unpainted in an attempt to further reduce costs. A black metal shim has been added to bring the drive up to a standard 9.5-mm thickness, though.
It's a good thing that there's a color contrast between the old and new models, because Intel intends to produce both as its customers make the transition to the new hotness. One may also differentiate between generations based on their model numbers: The old ones end in G1, while the new ones are tagged as G2.

Jun 29, 2009I've only had it for about an hour and a half so I don't many first thoughts but the keyboard is nice, build quality seems excellent, screen is beautiful, and just an amazing machine. I tried to take some pics but my camera isn't that great and unfortuantely the LCD is broken so I can't see what the picture is going to look like.
If you want me to take a picture of anything I can try or ask anything go ahead I'd be happy to answer. I'm thinking of doing a video in a few days and putting it up on YouTube because there isn't much about this laptop.

Yes, it's long, but it overs a lot and makes it very, very simple.
A Note about the "new" Sony utilities on their website.
Don't bother, you end up with FAR less functionality than you will with this guide. Sony simply put up utilities that work with Windows7, they didn't check to see if there is a driver to allow them to work.

I did install the chipset, which is supposed to include the drivers for those ports, as the first driver installed after the fresh install of Win 7 but it doesn’t seem to work.

Nov 5, 2009I've got an odd problem - my iPhone neither charges nor is recognised by USB2 on my 3810T. Tried same lead and phone on desktop and other PCs no problem. I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit on both laptop and main PC.
My normal iPod classic connects and charges fine via the 3810T as do other peripherals like the external DVD-RW and memory sticks. Sony Ericsson mobile phone connects and charges too.
Can anyone explain this or has anyone either had the same problem or have connected successfully with an iPhone?

Oct 3, 2009Just got my new notebook and registered successfully for the win 7 upgrade.
I notice that the machine has 4GB RAM so it surely makes more sense to install Win 7 64 bit...? Anyway I have two other copies of the full version of Win 7 on pre-order for our home desktops which come with both 32 and 64 bit versions.
One of our desktops is generally used for office tasks so could I use the Win 7 32 bit upgrade intended for my Acer Timeline for that and do a fresh install of one of my full Win 7 home premiums on my new Acer Timeline?
Basically, is the upgrade locked to the associated Acer laptop?
Acer :: 3810T Strange Windows 7 BSOD
Jul 2, 2009Having some very strange Win7 RC install problems on my Timeline 3810T.
First - If the SATA was in AHCI mode in the BIOS, I would get a BSOD every time the partitioning was complete and copying files begun. When this was switched to IDE mode, installation went off without a hitch. This is with the machine's stock 320GB hard drive.
Second - I've received a Corsair P256 SSD drive, based on a new "very compatible" Samsung controller. After installing this SSD, the BSOD occurs no matter which mode I'm in (IDE or AHCI). I cannot seem to find a way around this. I've tried loading all different version of AHCI drivers from Intel for the ICH9M-E, but no go.
I'd really like to unleash this SSD

Feb 27, 2013I have a Alienware M17x R3, Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit that uses DDR3 PC3-10600 1333MHz. I have 4 2GB sticks of RAM. I've actually found myself using programs that max 8GBs out. So I bought my self 4 sticks of 4 GB DDR3 PC3-10666 1333MHz RAM.
For some reason my system doesn't want to accept the new memory. The BIOS sees that i have the correct RAM in each slot, but windows never actually starts up It'll either just get to the system loading screen, then shut off and automatically come back on and just keep doing that. Other times, i'll get a blue screen that just flashes for a second and shutdown halfway (The lights stay on, but nothing happens). I've just tried two sticks of RAM at a time and still nothing happens. I've called Dell support, and they said it should work just fine.

Sep 9, 2009I am running Windows 7 RC1 on the 3810t, and have been experiencing some weird issues.
I am hoping that someone in the NotebookReview community has already struggled with these problems and can help me resolve them.
The first issue concerns the laptop screen. When on battery power, it seems to fluctuate in brightness and contrast without my express permission. I have looked around in video card and power settings, as I thought that maybe this was a "feature" to save battery power or something, but have been unable to find anything.
Secondly, the computer sometimes goes to sleep long before the time delay for inactivity has passed. The last straw came yesterday, when I continually struggled with waking my compy up, and then having it go to sleep three or four seconds later, over and over again. I won when i yanked the battery out. Except that I wanted to use the computer, so I guess the computer won...
Anyways, I think that this machine is great. The battery life is amazing, and it runs quickly and smoothly (I have the 3810t-6775 with an SSD --the performance of the SSD is incredible). Hopefully someone can help me with these minor (read: major) issues so that I can transcend into computing bliss.

Mar 3, 2010After 6 months of moderate use, the battery on my 3810T seems to not want to fully charge. The battery indicator in windows (win 7 home premium 64bit), shows the max charge at 88% and the front led stays yellow for a long time when plugged in (over 12 hrs) before finally just turning off instead of going to blue to indicate a full charge.
