the laptop is just over a year old, and does not power up at all. This started a couple of weeks ago.
At first the LED light would blink orange a few times when the laptop was switched on, but nothing else happened.
Then it might just start up, and while booting up the battery light would blink and it would switch off .
I did try removing the battery etc. to discharge of the mainboard as advised, but no difference.
I have tried other sockets, same result.
Â
I have now left it unplugged for a few days and there is not even the orange light any more.

I contacted Acer two weeks ago and received a message that a response would arrive within 24 hours, but to date I have received no response at all.

The issue: I own a Travelmate 4500 and all was super, until 5 hours ago... (that's the time I already used to grow grey hair trying to find a solution )
Here exactly what happened:
(1) While working, he turned off (I thought loss of power, but the external HDD worked, so that wasn't it).
(2) I pressed Power, the white ACER screen came up, I pressed F2 to check the setup and was hoping that it was just a short clinch with minimal loss of data in windows, but... a few seconds later, the screen turned black..
(3) I pressed power again to turn it off, again to turn it on and this time, black already, no ACER white-screen at all...
(4) What happens if I press power now, is always the same > the fan starts, the DVD-Drive makes short sound + HDD starts (as it all should usually) -> but then after3 seconds or so, without beep, the fan turns off, the HDD keeps turning, but nothing else happens anymore - all black like dead
I have an acer travelmate 4002wlmi, i had power adapter problem, the old one semms to be wrong, the notebbok was standing 3weeks along, today i get a new power adapter i want to charge but it doesent, i made the battery out and pussed the powerbutton 30seconds, an after that it begans to charge. some time after i tried to start my computer but it wont, just the fan o the power light on but on the screen heappens nothing, and not boot on.
Travelmate 4010. I've had it for about 3 years now, and over the past *thinks* 6 months or so the power cord had been replaced twice because it broke. But it wasn't really the cord itself that broke the first time. Something inside the jack is broken and now the cord (a new one) has to be positioned just the right way so it doesn't switch to battery mode. I use it mostly on my bed, which probably doesn't help, but at one point I had to have it on a desk with the cord taped to the lid so it wouldn't move and kill the battery (which doesn't last that long). I couldn't even close the lid so I just had the monitor shut off after a minute. but I did get a new cord and started using it on my bed, storing it underneath when I'm not using it. After a while, though, the cord started to do the same thing and now I'm sitting here trying not to move on the bed too much so it doesn't disconnect. I'd like to get a new notebook, but I can't afford it.
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.
I have just been given a TravelMate 530 2.2 cpu Lappy
Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)
Can I just stick a 1 gig unit in this slot and all will be fine or is there some unusual method to upgrading the memory. Hope it's nothing like the old Dells
=i bought a new travelmate 5730 it came wth basic Linux.....so i formatted it nd installed windows XP 2......then i installed all drivers.......n stufff
actually i want that "empowering techoonology"......how to get it?

I want to upgrade the HDD of my TravelMate 2490 notebook but I can't find anything on ebay. Can I used other model's HDD as a replacement? What are the other models that are compatible with TravelMate 2490?
I was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?
i got myself a new Acer Travelbook 5320, i get a win xp image, i burn it to a disc, i put it in, setup loads, i hit enter and he says the setup hasn't found a HD? it says it comes with feakin 160gb of HD memo!
The problem: Every time I restart, the network card is disabled by default. On very few occasions, the network card disables itself when surfing the internet.
I tried: Disabling other network cards Going to Device Manager, NIC, Untick "Allow the computer to turn off..." Scan for malware/viruses using AVG 8.0
whether the Travelmate 6592G has a matte or a glossy screen. I'm having a had time finding a laptop with those sort of specification that has a matte screen - the information you find online seems often to be ambiguous
I have an Aspire 6930 that suddenly died and will not power on. The LED power button was dark and unresponsive. I performed a power reset and the blue light on the power button came back on until I pressed the button to try to restart the laptop. When I did that, the blue LED immediately went dark and stayed that way until I did another power reset. It never gets to the point of anything powering on. Is it a problem with the battery or it the laptop toast?  This is a real bummer since I just replaced the hard drive a few weeks ago and replaced Windows Vista with Linux Mint (which btw is blazing fast compared to Vista).
Acer 5253 - Will not power on, battery or on AC power. Have tried all the suggested solutions but none have worked. Is it possible to get maintenace instructions (disassembly, where certain items are located, etc)?Â
I bought a used Acer TravelMate 2420 laptop (WinXP, RAM 1 GM, hard disk 40 GB, Intel Celeron M processor 1,50 GHZ) and since the beginning it had overheating problems and also some issues with power management. And yes, I know it was a stupid thing to buy it, but knowing it doesn't help.
Now the problems: 1. Whatever I do, it keeps overheating, even if no programs are opened. The laptop's fan works very vaguely, and I can hardly hear any sound of it. At first it didn't trouble me much, as it was winter and it would still work, although heated up. I also bought an USB ventilation pad (2 fans), and it helped for some time. But now, when the air temperature is over 30 degrees (in the room), the laptop just "freezes" in the middle of work and stays like this for about 20 min, or just suddenly shuts down completely.
2. I can't turn it off if the power supply is on - I have to unplug it just before the computer shuts down, otherwise it keeps on restarting. Also I can't use it without a battery, as it doesn't turn off in any way (even pressing the power button for a long time doesn't help), and I have to unplug power supply (which ain't no good for computer).
What I already tried to do: 1. Re-installed Windows, installed updates.
2. Checked the computer with various antivirus and antimalware programs (Avira, AVG-free, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware).
3. Installed additional Acer utilities: Acer emPowering Framework, Acer ePerformance Management, Acer ePower Management - but they basically didn't let me change anything important (like the fan speed, for example). With PowerManager I changed the CPU speed to Medium, well, it helped a little bit, but the comp. is totally slow now (and still overheats) ... if I set the speed to High, it just turns off after about 10 minutes.
4. Instaled SpeedFan to speed up the fan - but it didn't detect any fan in the computer!
5. Dismantled the laptop (removed the hard disk, the keyboard) to see if the fan isn't clogged, but I still couldn't reach it. So I just used a vacuum-cleaner as much as I could reach, but of course it didn't change anything.
6. Oh and of course I disabled all the unnecessary programmes (by modifying msconfig -> startup).
7. Ran HDD diagnostics, S.M.A.R.T. report showed no problems.
I've read quite a lot now about these laptops, and seems like they all have this overheating problem, but it's usually solved by using a ventilating pad (which helped in my case a bit, but basically didn't solve the problem). I didn't found anybody having these power problems, so I guess maybe a previous user made some stupid modifications... I just don't know how to fix them now.
I want to upgrade my now-3-year-old TravelMate 8100's HDD, RAM, and OS (to Vista).
The memory is easy enough, but I have a PATA HDD. Do I have to replace it with a PATA drive or can I use a SATA drive? Is there any concern with more power consumption with a faster drive?
I don't know anything about hard drives so I am not sure of the difference of terms like PATA, SATA, ATA-6, etc.
Do I need to flash the BIOS if I change the drive to a SATA one? I see that some of the versions say for SATA systems only.
not sure but my acer beeps three times when starting and no screen showing up, now this is intermitten because I have gotten it to load xp and run, this just started so Im going to maybe clean it out etc, anybody have a idea what I should look for, the funny things is it will work and then it wont
I got my hands on a Core Duo T2050 to drop in my 2490. I went for that CPU as it was cheap, and a 533 FSB, my 2490 allegedly has a 943 chipset (based on the code on the sticker, which started AY702.002). Updated to the latest BIOS, which in the notes has dual core support for various chips.
Fitted it, turned the machine on, and... Nothing. Well, not quite nothing, had the fan and power light, but nothing else.
I've no reason to suspect the CPU is faulty, so I guess it just doesn't work. What puzzles me is why it doesn't work. Surely as it's teh right socket, the chipset should work with it, and the BIOS has dual core support it should work? Unless the motherboard model sticker was fibbing, but that seems unlikely as this machine has DDR2 and SATA, which ties in with being a 943 as well.
Is there a reason why this particular CPU doesn't work, and a definite option for one that does? I can live with droppnig a core solo in, but would rather go dual core for the money
I have problems with the high temperature of my Travelmate 5624WSMI. It is too hot!
However: - I cannot hear any fan running (I do not know if I should, and I do not remember if I did when it worked properly).
- I read that it might be due to dust. For this reason I tried to clean it (them?) with a can of compressed air but with no success.
- I installed SpeedFun. I read this: GPU 51 °C (or more!); HDO 42 °C; Temp1 32 °C; Temp2 42 °C; Core0 46 °C; Core1 46 °C. As I understand, GPU is burning.
- I tried to open my notebook but without success. I do not how to do it.
A week ago i bought an Acer Travelmate 8571 with Linus. I installed legal WinXP with SP3 and latest drivers/updates.
After start the computer freezes within 10-20 minutes independently on the running programs. To reboot it one has to use the Power button.
This is not the overheating: the ventilator works and the air temperature is cool. I guess, it can be either problem of the BIOS (v.1.02), which is not able to work with XP, or a wrong installation of the XP.
Does anyone have an idea on the source of the trouble? I would like to keep the notebook due to the advantages of extremely low noise production and long accumulator working time.
I've acer travelmate 2410 purcased in April-2006, It has a sticker near keyboard marked with PCI express slot. Where it is? I need to put new graphic card in that. Below is the pic of its motherboard, the slot for wireless lan is empty,is this the PCI express slot?
My laptop of recent has started to pixelate lines appear first and then everything becomes jumbled, I cleaned the Fan and everything, replace the thermal paste and put the thermal blu tack on it put it all back together and it goes on. The Temp of the CPU is around 60c normally a wee bit lower, it also occasionally during being on will start too appear with lines of pixels then diagonal black pixels at that point i shutdown the laptop, but when i go to put it back on again, I have no screen just what looks like a backlight at the bottom of it, I then have to unscrew and go through the process again.
1. I have 2-3mm of thermal blu tack on the gpu as i've read in another post
2. I have used a paste that a friend whos a techie uses to put on cpu
3. Fan and Radiator thing is cleaned out
4. Can sometimes run for hours and then all of a sudden bang black diagonal pixels..
why our TravelMate is overheating. Currently it is a year old and this has just started to occur.
Primarily this happens when it is plugged in. My initial reaction tells me that it is the battery causing this problem. But im not sure. Also, the fan runs often while it is plugged in too.
