Acer TravelMate P245 :: How Does One Reset Up Face Recognition
Nov 10, 2014
How does one reset up face recognition on a P245 Travel Mate? It did work, but now it does not. Turning off would also be OK with me, just can't find location of the face reconition program.
Face login is a pain. It never works. How do I disable it? I have searched the manual, internet and contacted acer (they wanted £65 to answer and my laptop is only two weeks old!) I am about to do a factory restore in the hope that it will give me a fresh start with an option NOT to choose face or any login for that matter!

When I bought this xps 16 laptop there was an option appearing always at the time of login called "face recognition". Can somebody plz explain me how to get this back.
I notice that the FAservice (Fast access) uses more than 1% of the CPU all the time. That is too much for me. Such a service should be near 0% as the welcome page is off.
Do you experience the same thing?
I don't uninstall it at the moment but if I can't find a solution I will do to not short my time on batteries soon.
I bought a 2450 and the keyboard, touchpad and usb ports are all not working. I did some reading and someone had said that a reset could fix this problem, he said it was a problem with Acers bios. I'm trying to find where to jumper it, i read that you jumper J3 that is around the memory. I did that and don't think it reset, i figured the bios would give me a time warning or some sort of setting's warning. I thought i should see if anyone knows the procedure. Otherwise im thinking about cutting the lead to the top terminal and soldering in a jumper (which i don't want to do).
if it's possible to buy and install a replacement BIOS for an Acer Travelmate 2300 (as my 2300 died half-way through a flashing process-it will power on but there is nothing on the screen) or is the BIOS chip soldered to the motherboard and not possible (I've no technical skill at soldering).
Or is there a way to reset the BIOS? I could find nothing on the Acer website specific for this model.
I am having a big issue trying to get speech recognition working. When I speak into the microphone, the volume level hardly registers unless I tap on the device. I have Mic Boost turned up to +10db and I don't have any of the effects checked. I also unchecked the "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" radio box for both the Speakers and the Microphone.
I have reinstalled the drivers from Acer's website and then from Realtek's website--neither worked.
Is there any face verfication login software which i can use with my dv5t? I've heard about Lenovo's veriface being used with hp laptops but does it work? Also i've got 32 bit vista if u need to know just in case.
I have a 2530p with the 2.5" OEM 160GB spinner in the optical bay and 1.8" bay vacant. Although this would be completely ridiculous, I'm considering getting two 160 gb intel ssds. I am wondering the 2530p has support for raid 0 and if so, how to properly configure it? This combination would clearly result in the melting of faces and possibly my computer.
Also, has anyone seen X-18m G2's 80 or 160? Cant find them anywhere...
I'm new to Dell and all of a sudden a great many files have a blue clock face and red exclamation point on top of file thumbnail. What does it mean and how do I remove them. Can I remove them in bulk. I backed up my whole computer yesterday, but the blue clock and exclamation point still remains on many many files and folders.
ive just re-installed vista home premium on my acer travelmate 5320 but now the led for the wireless is reversed, so when the wifi is on the led is off and vice versa does anyone have any ideas whatsoever as i am at a loss with this one.
I have just been given a TravelMate 530 2.2 cpu Lappy
Fine for all I need but I would love to upgrade the memory. I see it says it can only go up to 1 gig and that it has 256 as standard.
I see there is a slot under a cover on the back, but only 1 slot (Unless I'm not looking properly)
Can I just stick a 1 gig unit in this slot and all will be fine or is there some unusual method to upgrading the memory. Hope it's nothing like the old Dells
Did they stop putting in the facial recognition software in with the notebooks? I know it was listed when I ordered mine. I have search all over the hard drive and haven't found any software to use this feature.
I have a studio 1747 core i7 quad, just got it a few days ago.

I want to upgrade the HDD of my TravelMate 2490 notebook but I can't find anything on ebay. Can I used other model's HDD as a replacement? What are the other models that are compatible with TravelMate 2490?
I was given an Acer TravelMate 2300 by someone who has a new one. It came with no guarantees and no recovery CD. It had working verison of XP Pro on it through SP2. I applied SP3 and several updates. It worked good until... I noticed that the C drive was formatted FAT32. So I thought it a good idea to move it to NTFS. Without checking, I fired in "convert c: /fs:ntfs". It rebooted and after a brief look at the Windows XP splash, it goes straight to a stop code x0000024 BSOD. There was nothing on the drive except for the OS so I was felt OK withjust reinstalling from my media.
I dragged out my copy of XP pro slipstreamed with SP2. Booted from CD, went through XP's native setup and detected an "unknown" partition where C used to be. I must've really slammed it. I chose to install to the unknown partition and XP offered to format it NTFS. I chose the thorough format option but it goes only to 24% and stops. The display still shows the progress bar, blue background etc. at 24%.
Since I don't have much experience with laptops, let me ask, is it possible that this laptop/drive ONLY formats to FAT or FAT32 and won't take an NTFS volume? If it will, are there any ideas out there how to apply and NTFS format so I can get this cute little laptop back to a usable state?
i got myself a new Acer Travelbook 5320, i get a win xp image, i burn it to a disc, i put it in, setup loads, i hit enter and he says the setup hasn't found a HD? it says it comes with feakin 160gb of HD memo!
The problem: Every time I restart, the network card is disabled by default. On very few occasions, the network card disables itself when surfing the internet.
I tried: Disabling other network cards Going to Device Manager, NIC, Untick "Allow the computer to turn off..." Scan for malware/viruses using AVG 8.0
whether the Travelmate 6592G has a matte or a glossy screen. I'm having a had time finding a laptop with those sort of specification that has a matte screen - the information you find online seems often to be ambiguous
ok so my sister bought her dell inspiron 700m back in 2004. i went online to the dell site on her computer to check its default configurations and found that it came with 256 ram, however,
when i check, it seems that the system only recognizes up to 238 ram and 238 is the number that keeps showing up. this is extremely troublesome cause im trying to install ubuntu but many problems keep occurring cause i need 256 ram for it.
is there any way i can get the 700mto recognize the full 256 ram?
also im thinking of upgraded the ram, would this ram be ok? it seems compatible but i want to be sure before i buy it : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820141207
How well does the FastAccess facial recognition program work? Is it a gimmick?
Can I install the software on another Dell laptop with a built-in webcamera or is it somehow linked to one particular laptop?
I am going to order an Inspiron 1545 with the facial recognition, but my Studio 1537 is the laptop I use most frequently. It has a 2MP camera but somehow the FastAccess was not offered as an option. I would like to use the facial recog program on my Studio 1537 instead of the Inspiron 1545.
I bought a used Acer TravelMate 2420 laptop (WinXP, RAM 1 GM, hard disk 40 GB, Intel Celeron M processor 1,50 GHZ) and since the beginning it had overheating problems and also some issues with power management. And yes, I know it was a stupid thing to buy it, but knowing it doesn't help.
Now the problems: 1. Whatever I do, it keeps overheating, even if no programs are opened. The laptop's fan works very vaguely, and I can hardly hear any sound of it. At first it didn't trouble me much, as it was winter and it would still work, although heated up. I also bought an USB ventilation pad (2 fans), and it helped for some time. But now, when the air temperature is over 30 degrees (in the room), the laptop just "freezes" in the middle of work and stays like this for about 20 min, or just suddenly shuts down completely.
2. I can't turn it off if the power supply is on - I have to unplug it just before the computer shuts down, otherwise it keeps on restarting. Also I can't use it without a battery, as it doesn't turn off in any way (even pressing the power button for a long time doesn't help), and I have to unplug power supply (which ain't no good for computer).
What I already tried to do: 1. Re-installed Windows, installed updates.
2. Checked the computer with various antivirus and antimalware programs (Avira, AVG-free, Malwarebytes' Anti-malware, Spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware).
3. Installed additional Acer utilities: Acer emPowering Framework, Acer ePerformance Management, Acer ePower Management - but they basically didn't let me change anything important (like the fan speed, for example). With PowerManager I changed the CPU speed to Medium, well, it helped a little bit, but the comp. is totally slow now (and still overheats) ... if I set the speed to High, it just turns off after about 10 minutes.
4. Instaled SpeedFan to speed up the fan - but it didn't detect any fan in the computer!
5. Dismantled the laptop (removed the hard disk, the keyboard) to see if the fan isn't clogged, but I still couldn't reach it. So I just used a vacuum-cleaner as much as I could reach, but of course it didn't change anything.
6. Oh and of course I disabled all the unnecessary programmes (by modifying msconfig -> startup).
7. Ran HDD diagnostics, S.M.A.R.T. report showed no problems.
I've read quite a lot now about these laptops, and seems like they all have this overheating problem, but it's usually solved by using a ventilating pad (which helped in my case a bit, but basically didn't solve the problem). I didn't found anybody having these power problems, so I guess maybe a previous user made some stupid modifications... I just don't know how to fix them now.
