View 5 RepliesI know it's possible to upgrade the hard drive in my Acer 5920G, but I've got no idea what type of hard drive to look for, and which will be compatible etc.
View 10 Replies View Relatedi want to upgrade my 5920g-302G16M
currently i have 2gb of RAM, and i want 4GB (if possible) as i find when ever i play games, its really starting to struggle
so really the help i need is,
what RAM do i get?
is it actually possible to have 4gb of RAM in this comp recognised?
i will note that i will probably get some expert tech ppl to fit any upgrade cos i dont want to risk breaking my laptop - but i know that if i go in there they will sell me what ever they have - and it will cost me alot more than if i buy on the net first.
I have a acer 5920g with a 8600m gs 256mb ddr2. my bios is last version 1.3813 and my vga bios version is nvidia 60.86.54.00.27. The chipset is pm965. The vga is MXMII
I have obtained a 8600m gt 512mb ddr2 from a compal fl90 free. It's MXMII too
I've installed 8600m gt in my acer and when run it only see a black screen. Laptop is runnig but i don't have any image.
I've read somethig about a acer vga bios for the 8600m gt but i don't know what i've to do.
I don't know if i have to install this bios in the 8600m gt in another laptop. There is something patch for this card?
This vga bios is possible to install in any 8600m gt?
I have purchased a mobility hd 4650 from an Acer spare parts source and intend to replace my 8600m GT with it.
The order has been shipped and will hopefully arrive within 2 weeks.
Based on this thread (5920G Upgraded To...Radeon HD 4650?!) I should be able to simply install the card physically (I've disassembled this laptop for a processor upgrade before) and then just throw on the drivers (the device comes with the Acer vBIOS preloaded)..................................
I have ordered this laptop recently (Spec is below), well, it's due to arrive tomorrow, and am probably going to upgrade to Vista x64, or at least give the new Windows 7 x64 a go on it. However, I'm just unsure as to whether it will be easy enough to migrate or whether I'm likely to have issues finding drivers for the relevant hardware. I hope someone here can give me some advice as attempting to scour the internet for a response for this particular model has been a nightmare, I've found the drivers page but it's all a bit confusing with seperate 64bit and then SP1 sections! ...

My 5920G which I got for Christmas is giving me some problems.
I have gone to power options and and changed the settings so when I close the lid, nothing must happen. But when I come back in about 20 minutes after leaving the lid closed, there is no way of me getting the LCD to start up. The only way I can get past this is by pressing the power button in for a few seconds forcing it to shut down. Obviously this is bad for my notebook. How do I get this sorted out? The same thing happens if I leave the lid open and come back in a while.
well i have decided to replace the stock thermal paste on my 5920g, however, i was suprised to see that acer used therma pads intead of thermal paste
im even more suprised to see that there are thermal pads all over my gpu and cpu
heres a rough picture of how it looks like
silver color denotes where thermal pads where installed
the weird thing is that the copper plate of the heat sink only touches the parts of the picture with the orange circle
should i put AC MX-2 on the areas where i found thermal pads or just on the areas where the copper plates of the heat sink touches the core
I have the Acer Aspire 5920G. Since my laptop is starting to get a bit too warm, I would like to know the steps in cleaning the fan for my laptop. I already got a can of compressed air. Can someone please tell me the exact steps to clean the fan?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have had a 5920G for nearly a year and it runs great when it is plugged in. As soon as I unplug it when it is 100% charged, the battery runs out in like 30 seconds.
View 7 Replies View RelatedAcer 5920G won't charge. When I plug in the charger the light that normally comes on to indicate that it is charging does not light up and in windows the icon that indicates that it is charging does not come up either.
My PC is the Acer 5920G best buy configuration, about two years old and no components are overclocked.
I was using it when this happened, I just noticed that the light went off and then it wouldn't charge when I plugged in the charger. As far as I know all the other components work correctly though it does have poor battery life. I was downloading a large file so I had it running for about six hours straight if that makes any difference.
I've checked the charger itself and nothing came loose. The green light on the charger also lights up when I plug it in so it is probably not the outlet that is the problem plus I've tried it in multiple outlets.
I'm pretty sure its either the battery or the charger, but I would like to know for sure and get advice from anyone else who may have had this problem.
Past few days I got my 8600M GT 256MB DDR2 GPU overheated and it is broken now. Sigh!! The system was still bootable and I did even hear the login sound not until today when I just unplugged the HDD and GPU myself. When I put them back together, I won't boot as usual. It stops loading a while after I turned it on and stays freeze until I shut it off.
FYI, I removed the HDD to copy a backup of my content into another PC. While connecting to other PC, I did change some setting on the Ownership of some folder to get it accessible. As for the GPU, I just simply removed it to take a look myself and snap some photo of it, then inserted it back as before.
So, I wonder will these techies stuff I did awhile back could corrupted the bios that would make the system halted halfway.
Additional information that I would like to share is that I have decided to replace my GPU with ATi Mobility Radeon HD3650 512MB DDR2 instead of the original and did learn the method to do so. Read on some info regarding flashing the GPU, but was not sure bout it.
I tried installing Service Pack 1 and it won't boot. Microsoft has just sent me a Vista Home Premium Repair CD that will hopefully fix it. I have Recovery Discs, but then I'll lose all my data. This is the 2nd time that my 5920G has broke like this, is there a huge design flaw with this laptop?
Is Acer always like this? It was such a high end laptop for its price (8600M GT, Core 2 Duo 1.5 Ghz, 2 GB RAM, HDMI, HD-DVD, for $1099), but I can never trust this company again.
I recently bought an Aspire 5920G with geforce8600M GT 512MB and windows vista premium.
My graphics card takes more than 700 MB from the RAM memory.
I would like to know if there's a way to make it take less or even disable this option?
I have a 5920g computer which I adore, sadly we always hurt the ones we love, I dropped it and broke the right hinge, because of that the plastic frame of the monitor ripped 2. It still works perfectly fine, but its annoying as hell to watch my lappy like this all the time. I called acer, and found a provider who can repair it for 400 dlrs (I payed 1000 dlrs for the lap) so well, its seem outrageous to me paying 40% of the total price for a hinge replace.
Anyway, I found the hinge and the other parts on Ebay singapore, for less tan 100 dlrs. So, heres my question, does anyone know how hard is it to replace this parts, I am a mildy medium kinda handy guy, with some hardware skills. So anyone know if this is hard, is there a guide around that can show me the process, or should I just pay the 400 dlrs and get this thing done.
Ive taken the back cover off my 5920 many times and really never took a look at it until now. What i noticed is that the vents for the ram are covered by a glossy black see through tape rather than mesh, which covers all the other vents.
Ive linked a picture below: add http into brackets
Has anyone else noticed that in their laptop? or is mine the only one where they ran out of mesh and decided tape was just as good. I wanna just rip it off.
Another thing, has anyone been able to overclock their 5920?(mines got a T8100) ive been searching for days and cant find anyone who has. I always have my backcover off and have my laptop resting on a custom dual 120mm fan notebook cooler. My idle temps are from 37-42, load is just over 60. I wanna push this thing just a bit more.
my fan is making a buzzing noise it's really enoying when i record stuff in the mic you can here it very well
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy 5920g start it wont even get to the postscreen happened right after the hdd got messed up.So i changed i figured that it was just the hdd that kept it from starting but nothing happened. So i asked and some told me it could be anything im really hopping its that its just the gcard since its the 8600m gt.One person told me to put a cd in the drive and if its spins it its probably the card and not the motherboard or cpu but idk.So best case if its the 8600m gt, could i upgrade it to the 9600m gt or the 9650m gt since they also are mxm2.
I think the bios support the 9600m gt but im not sure about the 9650m gt.
I really wana finish my fallout 3 game i was almost at the end.
so one of my hdds died on me so I decided to use the one that I was using as an external hdd.
I reformated that HDD, took out the broken HDD and replaced it with the new one.
I popped in the Recovery disc and everything started and was going smoothly until it hit 18% and it gives me this "Restore Failed - reason 0xd000001e"
System:
CPU: Intel t7500 2.2 Ghz
RAM: 2GB 667Mhz
HD: 1 HD 5400 RPM 250 GB
GPU: Nvidia 8600M gt 512 MB ddr2
I got these temperatures by running orthos to stress the cpu, and furmark to stress the gpu at the same time. Are these temperatures normal for an Acer Aspire 5920g? Cause I find these temperatures rather high, and I'm wondering if these are safe. I already have applied some artic silver 5 thermal compound to the both the gpu and the cpu.
I am a "silver surfer" who is starting to enjoy "playing" and "tweaking" my Acer Aspire 5920G on pre-installed Vista SP1 as a little hobby to pass the time
So far I have confined myself to dabbling with software and Vista itself but am now thinking about becoming more adventurous and upgrading the RAM from present 2GB to 4GB.
Firstly, is this a worthwhile upgrade bearing in mind I do not run any particularly intensive applications? In other words will I notice a performance difference in,for instance, boot times etc ?
Secondly, a few months ago I think I saw an article or thread in this Forum explaining how to increase the RAM in a 5920G and containing a couple of very useful diagrams.
I thought I hibernated or maybe something triggered it back on... i don't know! But my laptop has been sitting inside a drawer while it was running! And I don't remember when the last time I used my laptop and stuck it in there! I opened it up and I saw was BSOD!
So I just turned it off and turned it back on. Nothing posts on the screen and the hard drive light will blink for a second and then stop. Sometimes the fan will just turn off and it will constantly reboot itself. When that happens it only stays on for a few seconds but nothing shows up on the montior.
Man I think I screwed it up. I opened it up and I don't see any physical damage. I even took the heat sinks off and the chips look normal. I don't know what to do now. I have already tried running without a hard drive, only 1 ram stick in either slot. Nothing.
Has anybody had any experiences with the Acer 5920G?

I bought some HD DVDs to play on my 5920 and watch via HDMI on my HD sony TV. The laptop seems to be playing CDs and regular DVDs perfectly fine but it isn't recognising HD DVDs at all.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a Acer Aspire 5920G, it came without bluetooth, but with the button upon pressing it, a message comes up "No device"
I bought this from ebay:[url]
and fitted it today, the connector was available and space for the chip to sit and screw.
I started the laptop up, and the laptop did not come with any message about a new device.
I downloaded the driver from acers website this one:[url]
but when installing it it comes up with no bluetooth device detected.
I dont know what to do now.
Whilst fitting the bluetooth i managed to break the connector for my keyboard but ordered a new one which should come tomorrow or friday.
I my Acer 5920G, internal hard drive is dead by bad sectors. I can't boot image from my Transcend external hard drive. Just nothing happens, just blink of short line in left up corner of screen. I did everything fine in BIOS and I also tried Alt+F10 and also nothing. Is there any chance to do something before I by new internal hard.
View 4 Replies View Relatedthe 8600M GT is getting a bit dated now and I'd like to upgrade it to something friendlier if possible. where would I look for an MXM II GPU that would work with the current cooling solution that the 5920G has? I know the same thermal specs are necessary cause it can't do better...and with just the 8600M GT, playing COD4 multiplayer gets it so hot I have to stop cause the keyboard is too hot to touch!
I've got 2x2GB SODIMM"s to drop in to it...easy access to a the new Penryn series CPU's...just want a better GPU. something NOT DDR2.
I recentely purchased a 9500M GS for my Acer 5920G to upgrade from my 8600M GS. Now I have read the sticky regarding what cards can go in the 5920G and the 9500M GS is listed as one of them. The problem I am having though is that when I plug the card in and boot my machine, I get no display.
Now, this is what I have tried. I have tried to get a backup of the BIOS on the 9500M GS so i can use Nibitor to identify what it is. I followed the VGA flashing guide to where it says about restoring the BIOS blind but my laptop doesnt seem to boot at all i.e. setting the first drive to USB Key does nothing as the light doesn't blink.
I have tried putting my system BIOS back from the latest version (3813) to previous ones (3811, 3805) and even the default one my laptop came with (3708). Again this was to no avail. My 9500M GS still wont boot.
So this leaves me to this conclusion. The cards BIOS must be from a different vendor, and I imagine it would be ASUS. Is there any possible way I could get this card working in my system.
I just acquired an Acer Aspire 5920G with NVidia GeForce 8600M GS.
I opened the back cover to see what it looks like and it looks like the graphics card is replaceable. It’s an MXM-II card in 73 mm x 78 mm dimensions.
I’m planning to replace the graphics card and I have couple questions.
Does the motherboard or the system support Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 MXM – II or Nvidia Quadro FX3600 512 MB MXM II?
How do you upgrade the CPU? I unbolted all the bolts on the heat sink but the frame is in the way and I can’t slide the heat sink assembly out as simple as I thought it would be. Does the mainboard support X9000 extreme CPU?
Is there a link to a manual where it shows how to break apart the laptop? I might change the screen, etc.
Is it worth putting the 5920G on steroids with X9000 cpu and Nvidia Geforce 9600M GT 512MB GDDR3 or Nvidia Quadro FX3600?
