Does anyone know the pros and cons for the Acer Aspire 6920G, because I am trying to really make sure this laptop is going to be worth every single penny, and I want it to see what I can do if it lacks in one certain area.

View 10 Replies View RelatedAt the min i have a 17 inch AR series Sony Vaio and i`m considering a change to a Dell XPS M1730, can you convince me to buy one ? I want one with the CORE 2 EXTREME X9000 processor, a bluray read and write drive, minimum around 620GB storage which would be 2 x 320 GB @ 7200 rpm and 4GB etc.
The size and weight won`t bother me as this will be a desktop replacement that will rarely leave the house.
I have a couple of questions if any M1730 owners could answer them ?
1. Can you tell me how quiet the XPS M1730 is when its just being used for general use, are the fans quiet etc ?
2. How much heat do they give off ?
3. How good are the bluray drives ?
4. What are the pros and cons ?
I am about to get one upgrading from my M1210.some pros and cons about this notebook? I am getting the one with an LED screen so will i really see a difference between the m1210's screen and the 1330's?
View 15 Replies View RelatedI’ve recently purchased a 15-inch MacBook Pro (2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gb RAM), including a Mouse and a nice Covertec bag, all around 2,350€ (about 3,300$) in Spain.
This is my first post, and I’ve seen several awesome stickies, very helpful for new users like me, so the first thing is to thanks all the participants for this amazing work. What I really missed was a guide of pros and cons for new buyers (people like me who were hesitating whether it is worthy to switch from a PC). I found several good reviews in this forum, but what I mean is a summary. Pros and cons are spread in a lot of different posts, generally at the end of reviews. For instance, I spent 49 euros in an apple mouse that is completely useless for this laptop because the cable is too short (I work much quicker with the mouse than with the trackpad). I list my opinions about several other pros and cons. This is not a full review, only a short list of my first encounter with a MacBook Pro, after many years working with PCs:
1. Pros:
- Laptop: Nice look, light and very comfortable to work on laps (no heat/no noise).
- OS-X: Despite I was afraid, the switch from a PC is really easy. For me it is a lot easier to get a good organization with this OS than with XP or Vista (my other two windows laptops are a mess).
2. Cons:
- Useless mouse: As I said before, if you like me are used to work with a mouse, don`t buy a standard Apple mouse unless you are left-handed.
- Slippery: I have to be careful when opening the laptop, it needs to hold it because it is like the desk were slippery (my Fujitsu, a pound lighter than this, is much stable on the desk).
- Several things to get used to: Clicking on the upper left of a window to close it; few USBs, and both situated on the left; DVD reader: on the right side of the laptop, just where I have the mouse or the cable of the mouse… (Does anyone know if this laptop was designed for a left handed?).
- Delete: There is no Supr key to delete that all the PCs have; of course you can delete forward pressing two keys fn+del (it took me some time to find it out)....
give it to me straight, what are the pros and cons of the 13inch Viao Z ... I'm really digging it and would never thought I'd buy a Sony
and If I like what I see/hear ... damn if my budget didn't increase to $2600
I received my 1640 yesterday. Big props to Dell, since I bought it on Friday around 3pm (outlet "previously ordered new") and Fed-Ex attempted to deliver it on Monday at 10am (picked it up at the distribution center at night).
I also received my 9-cell battery, but haven't had a chance to use it or review it, so this will focus on the 6-cell.
First - Boxing: Non-fancy tan cardboard box. The laptop was encased in foam and a foamy-sleeve.
No bags were included with this laptop. I got a slim AC adapter (probably about 1/3rd weight of the previous bricks), some cds, and the laptop. Nothing else. Should I have gotten a sleeve of some sort .....
I've got the acer aspire 6920G, and when i play world of warcraft my fps drops to 7 in 25man raids. I play with really low options.
I've always had low fps, i tried installing windows Xp, vista and now windows 7 and nothing helps.
Now i must say, win7 had the best result. My fps increased in major cities, but in raids it's still the same thing.
I defragged my HD, I use a 64bit to use my full ram, I run no background programs, all options are on low, and i still get 7fps.
i've just got an Acer Aspire 6920G and i have a question about the RAM.
The sticker on the palmrest says it has 4GB of DDR3 RAM, as does the box. But the system information on the computer says 3GB, CPUz says it has 4GB.
I've opened it up and there are definitely 2 sticks of 2GB DDR3 RAM, so why does the Windows system info say it only has 3GB?
I have a Acer Aspire 6920g with the following specs:

I have tried lowering settings to lowest, but i only notice a couple of fps gain.. So if i change my settings from medium to low, i notce +3 fps wish seems really weird. I tried using a lot of tweaks with the commandline, turning off clip capture.. but nothing help, it's still runs at about 15-17fps. Ireally love this game, and I hope i can play it at an acceptable speed. I understand that the game is extremely unoptizmed, but i hope there is something i can do.
I've tried a couple of drivers like the ones on acer site 176, 179.28, 179.48, 182.50 (dox).. but i noticed that all are about the same.. I even tried installing XP, but that didn't help either.
so what do you think i should do?
And for those who have acer 6920g, are you able to play GTA4 fine?
this thing makes a loud noise and know one responded to my thread concering my DVD-R :'I'll guess I have to do it on my own or call acer support . But how can i take this thing out so i can see if some screw is lose or there is some dents(How could there be dents who knows)I'd like to see the and were they are located...i'll probably be ended calling support with my dad, Hes another thing. Some CD's it makes no noise, and its always working with those CD's. Other CD's make hella lotta noise...this is a werid conclusion but I THINK DVD's make no noise, and CD's make noise, now not just Music CD's but i mea CD's with 700m not 4 gb like DVD's.

I have made sure that it was charged 100% even on power saver mode and the battery will go to 100% to 5% within 5 min. As you may know the laptop has one Partition for windows vista, one has XP (Acer instant on), and one has the repair partition, meaning all my boot Partitions are taken. Also theres a data Partition. Even with the boot partitions all taken can I use Wubi? I know it may stop the instant on from working, I don't really care about that.

If I format my 6920G to windows xp or 7, could I still able to format it back to windows vista using the hidden partition?
under normal operating conditions (having firefox, CPUID HWMonitor, Windows live messenger, and WMP open) the CPU is running at 17~30°C but the GPU runs at around 63~69°C
this isn't normal is it?
with a fan underneath blowing on the bottom of the lappy, cpu runs at 8~23°C
and gpu runs at 53~58°C
Im having a small gaming problem here. Im playing world of warcraft on my Aspire 6920g and it works perfectly smooth for like 5 minutes then starts performance decrease until its very bad. If I minimalize the game, for like, one minute and then maximize it back, it works perfectly smooth for some time again. I have no idea how to fix it. It probably isnt overheating as it occurs after I launch my lappy and then the game(the laptop is cold).

i have this shutdown problem. it started since i installing windows 7 into my laptop. my computer turns of itself after 10-30 seconds after an OS boot. except on safe mode option. the computer works fine on safe mode. at first, i thought that this due to software problems. then i think i should wipe out my OS and install new OS.but unfortunately, my laptop turns of itself while installing the OS!. this sound weird isnt it?
ive tried to use multiple OS to be installed. win7, vista, and even unbuntu OS also. but the turn off problem still occurs..
ive read from other post about the thermal issues, doing some patches at BIOS download from acer websites. now, im running on v1.14 for my BIOS. still. the turn off issues still occurs.
so, ive tried to look for the hardware malfunctions since trying to look at software problems cant find a clue.
after doin some reasearch and testing, ive notice that by disabling my duo processor in device manager, the computer works fine. by using single core processor now makes my laptop works fine. but surely, im running on low state now.
should i change my processor?
I've had this problem for a couple of weeks now. Didn't notice this until I installed Windows 7, but now my webcam does not work. I think it has to do with my laptop falling off the couch as I had problems after that getting the card reader to work (card reader is fine now). I have tried running the Crystal Eye program in XP, Vista 32-bit, Vista 64-bit and Windows 7 64-bit with no luck (it just says camera not found). Occasionally in Vista I will get a popup error message saying a usb device has malfunctioned, and when I look in device manager it says unknown device.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAlright, I recently installed Windows XP Dark Edition on my 6920G. Now, before going any further, yes this isn't an official version, it's a mod made by people... however, it does work- I installed it on my friends Dell and he has no problems whatsoever.
So, I changed the HDD to IDE mode because SATA and XP don't go together! The whole thing was working fine for about 20 days until this morning the laptop froze. I couldn't move the mouse, and task manager wasn't working. I turned it off and restarted- only to see the load ar on windows freeze. It stays like this for ever and I'm forced to manual restart again. The only thing that successfully works is Safe Mode...

Now, to give a little background info, I've installed another version of XP before this. I had the same problem after a few days no matter how many reinstalls. Also, the XP repair feature (and this is what worries me) says:
No HDD found. Please ensure drives are powered on blah blah...
So, I'm here without a laptop and this familiar problem of a ed OS! Last time, I just formatted the C: drive, and reinstalled. I even updated BIOS incase that was an issue.

Now, I know reinstalling the OS may cure the problem, but it's only a temporary fix, and I want a real solution. I rang Acer support, who tell me it's probably a software problem from microsoft update... I don't really believe this since each time (and I've done about 6 reinstalls of XP) the timing of this fatal error is random, ranging from one day to this- about 20 days.
I have the lappy for some time now and at start it didnt gave me any problems i played Crysis Warhead at Medium 60-80 fps. Now it downcloks all the time and cant even play the simpliest of games what the hell should i do?Its freakin me out...
