I am headed out to the Apple store tonight to pick up the 13" Macbook pro for my wife. Is the upgrade to the faster processor, HD, and ram worth the jump from 1199 to 1499? Would it be worth the bother for me to upgrade the components myself? I have no problems working on notebooks, just never have worked on a macbook before.

However, now, on battery, the Macbook Pro is a second SLOWER with everything that it was originally and scrolling is now choppy?
I installed a T7500 cpu in my Aspire 5315, properties states that it is a T7500 cpu running at 789 MHZ, 2.2 dual cpu processor and 1.99 GB of ram. So far all I have been using my laptop is email and surfing. it seems to take the same time booting up and maybe opening and closing a program a little faster but I wonder is it really faster ?
Are there ways to test this processor to verify that it is faster against known specs for the previous cpu, the Celeron 530 processor ?
I'm not a gamer, I am looking for a reliable, fast laptop mainly for web surfing, but also will be doing a bit of Photoshoping or watching the occasional movie. I'm told memory is the key to a fast system.
On the Dell website, I built a Dell Studio 15 which includes 8GB Shared Dual Channel DDR3 at 1066MHz and an Intel® Core™ i5-430M 2.26GHz (2.53GHz Turbo Mode, 3M cache).
The price just went down an additional $100 so I'm definitely going to purchase today. Now I'm flirting with the idea of going with the i5-520M 2.40GHz (2.93Ghz Turbo Mode, 3M cache) for $75 since I'm saving some money.
I'm just wondering if it may be overkill for what I'll be using it for. Also concerned that the bigger processor may drain the battery more .....
I have a choice of two m1730 machines. One with a 2.2Gig extreme processor but with dual 8700 cards. The other has a 2.2gig processor but has dual 8800gtx cards.

I am a pretty intense gamer (i play World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, Counter-Strike, TF2 and in the future Diablo 3), but also am going away for school this upcoming fall(so battery life is a + also). So when i go away for school, i want to be able to play my games, while also being able to bring a extremely portable laptop that can run on a full battery for a while.

I will be using my laptop for web design (Adobe Creative Suite CS4-sometimes multiple programs at same time), video editing (Adobe Premiere CS4, Final Cut Pro) and possibly sometime in the next 3-4 years, animation (Maya). I have two 2 TB hard drives and I'd be editing with video footage on them most of the time. Not playing any games. I'm pretty decided on getting a 15" (have one now and like the size for traveling+editing), 320 GB 7200rpm hard drive and 8 GB memory. However I have no idea what processor speed would be best for me between 2.56, 2.66 and 2.8.
What processor do you think would be best for me? Is there a big difference between the three making the higher ones worth the money? Is there anything in my current setup that I should change for optimal results?
Also, you can get a spare battery and use it as a second battery right? I'll be traveling a lot (like round the world) so extra battery time will be needed.
equipping 2 machines:
1-a 13" MacBook Pro, primary use will be Internet and e-mail and manipulating music files. Will my husband really notice a difference/benefit between the basic 2.26 and the 2.53GHZ (and is it worth about $250 more)? If he uses it for video downloading will that make a difference?
2- a 15" MacBook Pro- here I'm debating between the 2.66 and 2.8. My daughter uses it for Office apps, PhotoShop, music, Internet and e-mail. Again, would video downloading make a difference?
my 13.3" VGN-SZ650N/C so far but I also want to get a used TZ series 11" Vaio Laptop but most of the models are only using slower 1.8 " 4200rpm drive.
Assume if I got a decent issue of a used TZ from eBay, is it worthy to spend extra $$ to upgrade those 1.8 " 4200 rpm drive to something faster ?

My girlfriend has a Macbook 13' and recently she told me a problem with it, everytime she opens Word the system slows down, big time. It sounded like a Ram problem because I know Word is mem hog, plus all her other programs running. Anyway the Macbook comes with 512mb which is crap and can barely run much of anything, I looked it up and its fairly easy to install, so this is where you guys come in.
I need to find out how much Ram I can install (only 2? or up to 4? and can OSX even recognize 4?) and what Ram is compatiable (I thought Ram was universal, but I could be wrong)

The mac was running really fast to start with with internet pages loading immediately on firefox. However, yesterday i installed office for mac and now things are loading more slowly, sometimes a 1-3 second delay while it loads.
Does anyone know if this is just something random or is it caused by installing office for mac? If it is caused by office for mac, would upgrading from 2gb to 4gb make webpages load faster? And generally make things more snappy on the mac?
I only use the laptop for office documents, internet browsing, movie watching and listening to music...so no intense video editing or any thing like that.

I got a macbook pro and I asked them to give me an upgrade for a 4GB instead of the standard 2GB DDR3. I returned the notebook but they had a policy that I should keep the 2GB DDR3 I asked them to install. This costs about GBP 80. So I ended up with 2GB DDR3 that I paid for the GBP 80. I checked online and I could find them for a much cheaper price. Why then apple has it with this price? Are they any different? Is the GBP 80 the price for the 2GB DDR3 only or inclusive the price difference between 2x1GB and 2GB one chip DDR3. Because in the process I guess they had to take out the 2x1GB chips and insert 2x2GB chips to fill up the two internal memory slots. I asked them but they told me that it is the cost of just the 1x2GB DDR3 increase that I ordered?

I've been using it with Parallels and everything's been running great, however I'm beginning to wonder if I'll get better performance with more RAM. I haven't really looked at the RAM usage of OS X right now, however I do know that with Linux the amount of RAM you're currently using isn't really relevant, it's swap space that's relevant.
Also, I don't do anything graphic intensive except for gaming in Windows (bootcamp) every once in a while, in OS X I use Parallels all of the time, so it may come in use there, but again that's what I'm asking for.

I have 2 questions:
1) Is there any need to upgrade the memory to 4GB? I have heard the OS works fine with the lower memory (as compared to most PCs). I dont really game on my computer, but do watch TV online some.

Since the new white macbook update just came out (2.13GHz), and it reportedly supports 800MHz RAM, I decided to try and upgrade mine (2.0GHz model). I just wanted to report that my macbook recognizes it no problem, and reports the speed at 800MHz.
